So is this Nintendo enthusiast website shutting down in protest of Nintendo and their evil, awful ways? Can you believe Nintendo didn't comment on the parts of IGN's story that they don't believe are true? Like, for real, who would exaggerate facts to a reporter? There's no way that ever happens.
And are all the Nintendo fans going stop buying products from this GREEDY company who just earns money non-stop and fires employees left and right? With the amount of employees this rotten, greedy company lets go a year, it makes you wonder who is keeping the place running...
I read the article twice to see if the author mentioned WHY Nintendo doesn’t sell in certain regions. Didn’t come up. Brazil and their crazy video game market? Not brought up. How the UK gets games cheaper digitally on the eShop than physical copies, unlike some other major countries and markets. Not brought up.
@rjejr RJEJR- you are the only one (yet) to bring up the context of Nintendo's stock price. Maybe you should write for NintendoLife instead. And if Konami's is 10,000 yen more, why aren't they NEARLY as successful as Nintendo? Wowie zowie indeed...
For everyone in the comments calling out the fact that Kit and Krysta have been wrong a million times before, and that they were never executives at Nintendo... thank you for having some common sense.
@Ogbert Amen. Every single time a new Nintendo published game comes out, NintendoLife whips out a rage-bait article about how someone was left out of the credits. EVERY. TIME. Reputation be damned.
I love how nearly every article on this website is a writer wagging their finger at some person or company. "...it's hard to see what GameStop can realistically do in the here-and-now to rectify a missed pre-order opportunity."
It's GameStop. Not some mom-and-pop game store in the middle of nowhere. There's plenty they can do to make it right. As they have promised to do. How about we wait to see if they do anything or not before you go, in so many words, "the damage is done! They're rotten!" Yes, GameStop has been, for a long time, a terrible place to buy games. But you can't just claim they can't do anything about it until we see for ourselves.
Sony and Microsoft have been doing this for years. Their discs are essentially the same as this- keys. Unless Nintendo officially announced that these keys can't be traded or sold and are one-time use.
Calls out all these rumors as unlikely, but no mention of the rumor about the press getting to play the Switch 2 next week, or the almost certain Nintendo Direct we are getting in the next couple days. Well that's interesting.
Hey, just wondering for future reference - what makes a game a "rip-off" and a "copy-cat" and then tell me what makes others "a tribute", "an homage", or "a game that was inspired by..."
Honestly, I know the answer. But what I don't know is why NintendoLife likes to cherry pick what games to frame as "rip offs", and others as "games inspired by ______ that we hope to play really soon!" Tunic got the red-carpet treatment, but isn't it just a Zelda rip-off that had a manual that ripped off Zelda's manuals and art? What gives?
Haven't both Sony and Microsoft taken DOZENS of games off their subscription services due too licensing agreements? Where's the outrage for them? Oh, it because there's nowhere else to purchase or play... Super Soccer?! I promise you that anyone who truly wants to play the classic, award-winning Super Soccer will find a way to play it.
So, why is everyone crying like a baby that ONE game (THAT NOBODY CARED ABOUT) has been taken off Nintendo's SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE?! Did Nintendo promise that any game on their service would be available forever? Where does it say that?
Even if this was a highly-acclaimed game like Super Metroid, and I could understand the whining about something like that, you could still easily play it on something else. And if Nintendo or the developer doesn't want to sell their game to consumers and make money on it, that's their problem.
The fact that the first game (that nobody plays) was only just taken off the service now after all these years is actually surprising. Hell, maybe Nintendo took it off the service because data showed NOBODY WAS PLAYING IT and didn't want to pay to keep it on the service anymore.
@tektite_captain For real, the hyperbole from these writers is insane. Every last writer on this site constantly complains that they are a victim somehow.
Is everyone here gonna stop buying Nintendo games and hardware now that this terrible, horrible information about names missing from the credits has come to light?
A dog with a candle on his head. Because the only thing that says ghost and/or spooky is a candle. A candle with a purple flame. This Gen is getting up there with Black and White for worst / lazy designs. Not to mention it looks like they ripped it off from a Hanna Barbara cartoon.
@DarkTron You said it. And these were probably sent out by Nintendo (or a marketing partner), and we’re not made by McDonalds themselves. But the writer claims it’s an “embarrassing” mistake by McDonalds. Yeah, I’m sure they feel terrible. Good lord.
Not trying to be a smart a$$, but if I had a gun to my head, I couldn’t tell you one game developed by Devolver other than Monkey Island, which I only know from reading this article. I hear the company’s name here and there and know they had their own little showcase not long ago, but that’s about it.
I would work on the next Zelda for two weeks free of charge just so I could be able to tell people I worked on one of the greatest games of all time. And I bet they had him chained to a desk with only water and bread to eat during that time too. Poor guy.
As a graphic designer myself, I’m pretty sure putting on your resume “Created the instruction manual for Ocarina of Time” would be mildly satisfying.
I work at Target, where there is wayyyy worse things going on and nearly every team member is stressed out of their mind these days. Everyday you go home thinking you are going to get in trouble for not getting enough done.
My fiancé always says, “you need to find a different job.” And I always say “yeah, I know. Can’t wait until I don’t have to work at this place anymore.”
Never has she suggested “you should complain online and send a letter to corporate, maybe even call a local news station. The company will be exposed for their terrible treatment of employees and you will get a big fat raise and less responsibilities!”
Don’t like your job? Quit. There are literally millions of jobs that need to be filled and companies begging for help. Sorry, not too saddened by the fact you don’t get to invite your family to Nintendo HQ.
It has to come out this year. Unless they have some pretty big gems hidden up their sleeves, it’s gonna take more than Bayonetta, Splatoon and a Pokémon spin-off to keep their momentum going if Zelda is pushed into 2023.
Although I think Ocarina of Time is still the best Zelda ‘experience’, I think A Link to the Past has the best ‘tone’ of any game in the series. The music, the lore, the artwork, memorable dungeons and bosses - ALTTP has what is easily my favorite version of Hyrule. There’s no trains, wild west towns, magic iPads (Shiekah Slate), cameras, etc. I miss that classic ‘Zelda atmosphere’ the earlier games had.
So I bought this Expansion Pass this morning and now I really wish I had waited until they added more games or until they fixed some of the issues described here. Between the price and these issues, Nintendo really dropped the ball on this one.
I felt Metroid Dread was short, but all 2D Metroid games are short. It’s the $60 price that makes me a little unsatisfied with its length. Even Nintendo knows when a first party game should be cheaper than the standard $60, just look at the latest WarioWare that retailed for $50. Had nothing to do with the quality… it was just simply a short game and they made it cheaper. I feel like they charged $60 for Dread because: A) They could B) If it costs less than standard, it might have been perceived as an inferior product.
For me, it’s always “how long did I play the game vs how much did I pay for it”.
Yes, you see a headline that says “people who worked on Metroid Dread are not in the end credits” and immediately think “that’s crappy”. But we only have one side of the story from an anonymous person and another who did reveal their name. MercurySteam is based in Spain - perhaps they have different rules when it comes to the credits.
Nintendo could have certainly piped up and asked “we need the names of all persons who worked on the game so we can put them in the credits”. If you actually sat through the credits, you will see that there are maybe 9 or 10 names in the couple hundred displayed on screen that are from Nintendo Japan HQ. I’m sure a whole lot more than that assisted in the development in some fashion from Nintendo proper. Until we know why their names are not in the credits, let’s all put the pitchforks down.
PS: I love how people lately are using the word “abhorrent” all the time now. Mothers starving their children is abhorrent. Game developers who didn’t put certain names in the credits of a game (that almost no one pays attention to) would be considered lousy at best.
That box art on playasia is awful. Hopefully it’s just a place holder. Why would there be a different logo on the box compared to the app icon (which seems legit)?
Back in April, the GoldenEye trademark was renewed for use in video game software. Next week, the new James Bond film will be released in the UK and other territories. While I do think the chances are slim the final character is 007, I do think they’re better than zero and the timing would be just right to coincide with the release of the new film.
I know it’s been theorized by a few websites over the years, but I really love to know exactly the percentage of ownership and who makes the decisions when it comes to Pokémon. More specifically, what Nintendo’s role is when it comes to Pokémon Go, other than collecting their cut from owning a slice (however big it is) of Pokémon.
Haven’t played the game yet (it sits wrapped on my shelf), but can someone please tell me: Is the Expansion Pass worth the extra money? Will it unlock extras and items from the start of the core game, or is everything contained to the DLC?
I think back to Fallout 3 and how when you start the main story with all the DLC installed, you get a ton of bonuses that help you from the start.
I remember a certain Nintendo website claiming that March 31 was the “day that Mario dies” and Nintendo is evil for making 3D All Stars a limited time release, preventing millions of future Switch owners a chance to purchase the game. “Preorder Mario Game and Watch because scalpers will hoard the tiny amount Nintendo produces!” Whoops.
I was one of the few on this site who defended their decision to make it a limited release before the whole “Mario Doomsday” thing (seriously, this is the cringey, hyperbolic phrase Nintendolife and other fans used at the time). And wouldn’t you know it, 4 months later, the games are still widely available and have even had markdowns. Same with the Game and Watch.
I’m buying this day one like many previous Metroid games. But here’s a prediction: Dread isn’t going to break any sales records. People online scream and shout they want a new entry in a dormant series and when it finally comes out, it sells only a modest amount. With the amount of Switches that have sold, I would expect Dread to sell better than previous entries, but I wouldn’t expect it to be a breakout success. It’s no wonder it took them so long to release a new entry in the Metroid series - they never did exceptional numbers. But I am happy to see a new sidescrolling Metroid after all these years. And I imagine it will be several years before we see another.
What a joke, an extra $50 for a slightly bigger screen, OLED and a LAN port on a 4+ year old handheld. That Joy Con design sure did box them into a corner when it comes to revisions. Without 4K and a better processor, there’s really no reason for me to get one. Not when it costs more than a standard Switch. Bummer.
So while taking home $110,000 in a year for reselling Pokémon cards and gaming goods (which sucks for genuine collectors and fans, but I digress) is pretty good, I imagine this person will pay a hefty tax bill on that 1.7 million revenue, no? If it’s a legit business, then I imagine not, but someone who’s just buying stuff and flipping it, isn’t the whole amount considered income?
EDIT: Just saw AndyC’s posts on the tax thing, thank you.
Oh, and capitalism is good. He’s right about that.
Just say “we have nothing to announce at this time regarding that” or the classic “no comment”. Shareholders should know by now that they won’t be given access to behind the scenes info. Sure, if you want their opinion on certain things, ask away. But thinking they will actually say “yes, the Switch Pro is currently in production” is pretty dumb.
Funny that the author mentions the Players Choice version of ‘Everything or Nothing’ - that’s what I got stuck with when I bought the game again a few years ago. Now it sticks out like a sore thumb next to all my other 007 games.
Nintendo fans are a special breed... If it were possible to find out this exact number, I would bet $1,000 that at least 95% of the people complaining about the game being pulled at the end of March have either - A) Already bought a copy or B) Have zero interest in ever buying a copy. Today is the first time I have seen the argument “What about the people who buy a Switch after March? What on earth will they do? My heart bleeds for these poor souls!”
Yeah, I’m sure it does. I guess they’ll just have to buy it new/used on eBay, at GameStop, on Facebook Marketplace, borrow it from someone who did buy it or, as many expect, wait for Nintendo to release them individually on the eShop later this year. And that’s only after the copies dry up at retail.
@Pojos98 Exactly. While it’s strange for them to only want to make these games available for six months, it’s very easy to get a copy and they told everyone from the moment they announced it that it was going away at the end of March. If really wanted a copy, you would have bought one by now. Seems like a lot of fake outrage to me.

If really wanted a copy, you would have bought one by now. Seems like a lot of fake outrage to me.
