I chose Torchick as my starter each time I played Ruby/ Sapphire (even the remakes) and each time I get to the end of the game Blaziken is the FIRST Pokémon I send out (even in Emerald all these years later). I'm still searching for a Blaziken plushie to put next to my Pikachu.
Love you Nintendo... but I'm still awaiting the day that you just publish your games on PC and on consoles other than your own. Joycon drift got me this morning in the middle of a match of Apex.
Not touched a Sonic game in a hot minute... hoping it's good, everything I saw in the trailer looked bland (if I want open world gameplay I reach for Elden Ring typically)
Laughs in physical cartridge I got off Ebay for $40. In all seriousness it's not a bad version of the game, but I recommend playing it only if you have a New 3DS or a 2DS XL. If you have a PS Vita I suggest that version instead as it allows you to cross save to the PS3 version.
@CazSonOfCaz save points, but putting your Switch to sleep allows you to stop at any point. In fact it's why I still use my PS Vita minus the Switch now lacking Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology.
@Thomystic more overlap than you think. Personally I don't play Mario anymore (not challenging enough) but I can see it hurting when it comes to the older crowd.
@Ryu_Niiyama I already planned to, despite this being a quadruple dip. If one playthrough was enough I'd of quit after the PSP/PS Vita/PS4 (by the way I was asking for Persona on Switch since the Switch released in 2017 because the games are way too long for me to get through on a traditional console).
May we please have more rebootless updates, Nintendo? I'm sick of losing save data from having to reboot my console each update since I heavily rely on sleep mode (speaking of, is there a way you could... I don't know... further optimize power draw from the battery on the software side for sleep mode? The Switch dies too fast compared to my PS Vita, even when in sleep mode)
@nhSnork the only way to use a Vita or PSP anymore is CFW, and unfortunately the 3DS/Wii U duo are already there. I see why Nintendo is shutting down the eShops for them, but the moment they start shutting down digital storefronts is when I mod the console to make archival copies of the games I bought (and despite the fact that we are allowed to do that according to US DMCA Title 17, Section 108 Nintendo absolutely HATES us doing it, even though it's been shown that to resell their own games later they have to pirate them themselves).
And now to deviate from the target response and say that piracy doesn't necessarily equal lost sales and might actually help make sales (an example I can think of is I originally pirated Terraria back when it was in 1.2.4 on PC, and since I enjoyed the couple of hours I played the pirated copy I went and bought the game on Steam).
@icomma next you'll say that the concept of freedom and its subsidiaries shouldn't exist and anyone that opposes you gets thrown on the guillotine. This is when socialism turns to communism, and from the way you say that you'd agree with the communist mentality.
If you become a dictator in the future I'd make sure you fall to your pet guillotine, just like the army you'd slay to wrench the concept of freedom from people's hands.
@UltimateOtaku91 I play for fun, I don't make an account to play so I can farm items and sell the account later. If that was the case I'd of done sold my Steam account ages ago after buying every game on Steam.
We just want to have fun. We don't want gaming to turn into a money laundering pyramid scheme. KEEP YOUR STUPID NFTS OUT OF GAMING, THANK YOU.
@RabidCanuck lol good luck. Nintendo is brain dead when it comes to online and wouldn't think to use cloud servers. Another thing to think about is price point... they would pass the cost to us in the form of making Online cost way more than it already does.
And that right there is another can of worms, Online (even with its Expansion Pak tier) isn't really worth it if they where to raise the price to compensate for cloud servers. The feature set is lackluster compared to what features are available on Xbox/PlayStation. Unless they where to vastly improve before raising the price point to compensate they would lose subscribers en masse.
@TheWingedAvenger Mario and Pokémon have become stagnant. There is a reason I only stick with the original Nintendo DS games and lower for them.
DOOM Eternal is nauseating to play on the Switch after it was decided to ditch motion blur. Darksiders 3 has pop-in texture issues combined with the fact that the game can barely hold the targeted 30fps in the second half of the game.
Alien: Isolation's definitive console edition is on Switch, but that is because you get all the DLC and there is no screen tearing, at the trade off of input lag if you are playing docked.
Docking the Switch doesn't really help things either, as docking only really feeds more power to an underclocked system.
Top that off with the fact that I waited 19 years to get another Metroid and it becomes frustrating. I don't give a damn about Mario, Zelda or Pokémon anymore. The main thing that brings me to Nintendo is Metroid. And considering I started gaming on the PS2 it would take Nintendo getting something like Bayonetta 3 really soon to keep me from playing the next God Of War or Horizon game when they launch. It's also rather disappointing that the Switch doesn't have at least the other 2 games in the Dark Souls Trilogy or hell even Bloodborne.
The only reason I have a Switch at this point is because it's the only portable on the market that has the possibility of getting certain games. If Sony was still making portables I'd probably ditch Nintendo as a whole, but they aren't. So I'm gonna leave you to your ignorance. I'm gonna continue to play games on Nintendo, PlayStation and PC.
@Morph the new games will come via the cloud... and tbh I'd just play them on my PS5 at that point. The whole point of the Switch I that you can play it ANYWHERE, and having the games delivered via the cloud kills that notion.
@TheWingedAvenger hate to say it, but if any of the 9th gen consoles fail it will be the Series X/S. Considering that Xbox games also come to PC that is really stiff competition if someone has a gaming PC. The PS5, while a tough sell, has Returnal, which the Switch would never be able to run and the Xbox doesn't have the controller features to really make use of the game.
The only thing Xbox has going for it is Game Pass, which I can see them leaving the console business after the Series X/S because you can also access Game Pass on a phone. PlayStation only really has their exclusives going for them, and the only reason I bought the Switch was so I could play major games like DOOM 2016 on the go. If Sony had learned from their failures with the PS Vita and made something that could rival the Switch I'd of probably bought it instead. That is nothing against Nintendo or their games, it's just that I like to try to keep everything in one place. Right now we are entering the era of crossplay, which that makes things way easier, but since Nintendo is still holding out it means I'm buying games twice over if I want to play with friends that own a Switch. If I like a game a lot I don't mind buying it multiple times, but if I have to buy the game again just to be able to play with other people then I'll probably gravitate towards the system where I can play with others to begin with (which, right now, greatest common denominator for me is PS5).
@Hellburner918 not all games on Plus and Gold suck. And for it being an extended rental it's a great idea for trying games you might be hesitant to buy before actually buying them.
I'll get it if it cross saves with PC or PS5 (since Sony has basically dipped out of handhelds). Quadruple dipped on Isaac though. PC, PS4, 3DS and PS Vita
@CodyMKW to me it IS a waste. Nintendo needs to do better than they are currently. Right now I only pay $20 a year for cloud saces due to how poorly the online service itself is built.
My experience on Switch Online has been met with frequent disconnects and lackluster multiplayer compared to PS+, and while having access to NES and SNES games is great I can easily work my magic on the cartridges I own and play them via an emulator on any device of my choosing at this point. Then there is that Animal Crossing DLC. I'd be paying for something I wouldn't be using (again, that is a waste) because I don't own Animal Crossing nor even care about owning the game for myself. Heck, I tried Stardew Valley cause I bought it for my sister on PS4 and didn't really care for it.
If I pay for something I intend to get my money's worth, and frankly I wouldn't be doing that if I paid the extra $30 for what amounts to some ROMs I can easily rip off of cartridges I own and a DLC for a game I don't intend on playing anytime soon.
All of this garbage and I have to pay $30 extra? No thanks Nintendo. If I'm REALLY itching to play Ocarana of Time I'll go back and play it on my 3DS, and everything else? Muppen64 on my Powkiddy X18 functions better than this AND comes with the perk of remappable bindings. If your that desperate for our money Nintendo your gonna have to do better, especially since the package wasn't worth the price to begin with (double the burn when you consider that Nintendo bundled it with a DLC that some people would be paying for yet not utilizing because they either don't own Animal Crossing nor care to own the game or are essentially paying for the DLC TWICE due to already having said DLC yet having to pay the $30 anyway).
@Linkhyaah25 because for around the same yearly price we can go over to the PS4 or Xbox One and have better online connectivity as well as other features the Switch is missing.
@QueenZombie pay $60 and be able to play a game basically whenever? I'll take that. Pay $80 and not be able to play because I missed a payment due to my boss not being able to pay me that exact week? Screw that.
Also, there a beauty in owning a physical cartridge or disc for the games you want to keep... at least if it gets to where you can't re-download a game you can still play it in some capacity, so what did you say about paying $60 upfront for a game?
@QueenZombie it's not necessarily what a person can afford, its what you get vs. what you pay for it. For $120/year Gamepass Ultimate is actually a sweet deal, as you not only get the Xbox side of it but you also get it on PC. For $60/year PS+ is a little bit behind but you still get around 3 free games a month as well as cloud saves and more reliable online play.
Nintendo on the other hand drip feeds the older games (1 or 2 a month is great, 1 or 2 every 6 months is a hell no), has a mediocre online connection that drops you 7 times outta 10 and relies on a phone app to talk, and even THAT is limited to 2 or 3 games. For $50? ***** no.
@AugustusOxy I used voice chat all the time on Xbox, and I still do on PlayStation.
In fact, playing Risk of Rain 2 and multiplayer in DOOM 2016 is a pain in the ass without voice chat on Switch. If your playing a coop game not having voice chat turns the session into a nightmare or just kills it outright.
@PhhhCough I pay $10 extra with PS+ or Xbox Gamepass Ultimate and get more reliable online functionality as well as social features like party chat without having to go to an app on a smartphone.
Personally for the price that they want with the expansion pack they better improve online functionality before I buy it. $20 a year is one thing when I mostly use it for cloud saves, $60+ a year just for a few retro games that they rarely add to on top of mediocre online connectivity is pushing it.
My Skullcandy Hesh 2's work great with no latency, the only problem is that it's quieter than other devices I use. Heck, my PS4 and PS5 can also use my Skullcandies and yet they produce higher volumes.
Freaking FINALLY!! I will say that the Bluetooth is quieter than most devices I use though, still probably better to use wired headphones if audio is a concern
@rjejr yeah, as the older brother I'm allowed to consume media as I wish... heck, I turn 21 this October, so I can drink if I want to!
That said I also take part in the process because when my parents aren't around I'm the parental/guardian figure for my little sister. I have 2 older sisters but my father doesn't think they're qualified for that responsibility for some odd reason.
@twztid13 correction... there where 4 made for the New 3DS in total. Xenoblade Chronicles, Minecraft, Fire Emblem Warriors, and some other game I forgot the name to.
@gamereternal they will make the system smaller in due time. And honestly you where lucky to even get a PS5, I'm still trying to get one. I typically avoid Xbox now due to everything on Xbox also being on PC, which if you ask me is counter productive for Microsoft if they're trying to sell you an Xbox when you have a gaming PC. The writing for me is on the wall... the only reason I stick with PlayStation is their exclusive lineup, and even then it's pitiful that the only exclusive that I want a PS5 for is the Demon Souls remake.
I have a habit of making myself a fool by buying a system for one particular game. In my case I bought a PS4 exclusively to play Bloodborne. What happened after that? I started giving Sony more of my money, and honestly that impulse buy might be what gets me into VR as a PSVR is an affordable way to at least try VR.
Getting the 3DS and PS Vita was, to me, a no brainer. I was a major Pokémon nerd until around Sun/Moon, Shin Megami Tensei IV exists, and then there is METROID. The Vita is fantastic for the best retired version of Minecraft out there as well as all the Final Fantasy games up to X-II if you don't mind playing the original PS1 versions of I through IX.
To be frank, the reason I jumped on the Switch bandwagon as fast as I could was because Shin Megami Tensei V is going to be Switch exclusive. I bought a Switch solely for one game, and I'm glad I did it before COVID because that dreaded virus made it difficult to even source a brand new, unopened Switch. And then Nintendo goes and drops the 19 year old bombshell of DREAD of all things, which just gave me one more valid reason to not sever ties with Nintendo.
But I digress. My advice to you is not only consider the companies' reputation, but also consider its offerings. When you do that ask yourself this... "is what the company offering me worth putting up with their BS?"
@BloodNinja they will allow you to install Windows, which is great because I have a few games that don't support Proton at all, and one I want to play that brands Proton as cheating software coughcough DESTINY 2
That aside I do wonder if Linux can facilitate emulation of the PS3. If it can then I have a somewhat beefy older laptop that I will probably use to emulate PS3 games, since I have a bunch of PS3 games sitting around

@twztid13 I still have my New 2DS XL, but I use it primarily for Metroid and the Shin Megami Tensei games that where released on it.

And I agree with the 3rd season of Castlevania.

Edit: spelling champion of 2003... yayyyyy

@BloodNinja they will allow you to install Windows, which is great because I have a few games that don't support Proton at all, and one I want to play that brands Proton as cheating software cough cough DESTINY 2
That aside I do wonder if Linux can facilitate emulation of the PS3. If it can then I have a somewhat beefy older laptop that I will probably use to emulate PS3 games, since I have a bunch of PS3 games sitting around
