Sonic Frontiers is easily one of the most anticipated titles of 2022 and is currently scheduled to be released in "holiday 2022".
If you have been wondering about its development status, it seems it's still on track for a release later this year - with the game recently being rated in South Korea. Perhaps we might even get a release date announcement from Sega in the near future.
Earlier this week, a new release date listing (spotted by SteamDB) suggested the game was targeting an early November release and was then changed to 3rd December, which would technically line up with "holiday 2022".
Sega's Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka also previously mentioned how the game wouldn't be delayed - noting how the team was happy with its progress and was eager to get it into the hands of fans sooner rather than later.

Please, Sega, show of gameplay for the demo! I can’t believe people have to say this!
Also I can’t wait for this to come out!
Rated M for nudity and strong sexual themes. Adding OC's to Forces was just the beginning. Now, they're going all in on the DeviantArt fanservice. Sega is finally giving the fans what they've been asking for.
I can't be excited for this we haven't even got demo from this looking at trailer doesn't look good just someone modded sonic in the open world like it or hate it BOTW did this concept well and Super Mario Odyssey.
Unless they have chao garden then maybe ill consider it other than that its not enough to convince me this would be good.
@Not_Soos I opened both this and the article about Nintendo never asking Platinum Games to cover Bayonetta in new tabs before reading them, I read through this article first, and the beginning of your comment still made me believe I was somehow in the wrong comment section! 😅
“Most anticipated titles of 2022”? Are you kidding me? We barely have seen much of this game so far. A little CG-teaser, some very lacklustre, uninspired enemies and bosses, boring looking gameplay in one of the most unimaginative open worlds I have ever seen in a video game, filled with puzzles a 3-year-old could solve, and some very short footage of some high-speed platform levels that use recycled assets from overused level for the sake of nostalgia yet again. This game still has to prove if it is worth our money. The upcoming Pokémon mainline games so far only showed us one trailer so far, and they give us more information about those games then SEGA did with three for Sonic Frontiers.
@Knuckles Hahaha, I could totally see that! I would think "OC's in Forces" would have been a dead giveaway I was talking about Sonic though, lol.
@Not_Soos As a Sonic fan on the internet, I'm unfortunately numb to that kind of content. Look for a new avatar and there are some things you can never unsee.
Joking aside, your first sentence in your comment made me stop reading entirely until I figured out what was going on, haha. Properly confused me and I needed to know what article I was on, or if the Sonic glitches had somehow carried over to the articles as well.
I never liked Sonic when he becomes a pinball and you lose control of him. I was thinking if they do that in this 3D open world game it could be really good because you would still be in control
@Not_Soos Totally haven’t seen any of That before 🧢.
Sega has no reason not to do another “early release” where you wait months to have some of the most talked about problems and glitches patched out, the fans will let them get away with this we’ve seen it happen twice already.
@RareFan
We’ll be a week away from release and we’ll still be getting text interviews instead of extended gameplay videos, who markets a near to release video game like this in 2022? For comparison back in 1998 they didn’t do this for Sonic Adventure they had a promotional event at the Tokyo International Forum and videos of it quickly spread around the early internet.
I'm hoping and praying this isn't going to be disappointing. I'm optimistic, I always am but given their track record I can't help but feel a slight degree of dread at the same time.
Hope it will be good!
I'll get it next year on sale and after a heavy dose of patches! Or not at all. I can go either way with this one!😁
Rated “NC” for Needlessly Controversial
I've got a bad feeling this is going to be more broken than that remaster of Sonic Colors.
Sonic rocks................. Yea
I like my games linear specially platform games. Sonic is trying to reinvent Sonic for a while now. This looks like a hit and miss but who knows, maybe it’s a surprise hit and not another flop
Sonic Origins was rated a few days before it had a trailer drop, so we may be getting something Sonic Frontiers soon or it could just be a coincidence. Either way, I’m looking forward to Sonic Frontiers news whenever they decide it’s time.
Not touched a Sonic game in a hot minute... hoping it's good, everything I saw in the trailer looked bland (if I want open world gameplay I reach for Elden Ring typically)
Looks bare, uninspired and boring so far. Gonna be a 6/10 at best.
Hope not cuz that presentation seemed very empty
And the wave 2 of mario kart dlc is ........ not here I can not wait for bugs and glitches 2022.
