As you'll no doubt be aware, Nintendo Life is just one of three sites we operate here at Hookshot Media. We also operate Push Square and Pure Xbox, but it's been quite some time since we launched an entirely new site – but that changed this week.
Say hello to Time Extension, the newest member of the Hookshot family!
While other sites out there are constantly looking to the future and the promise of the "next big thing", Time Extension intends to do the exact opposite – it will look back into the past to uncover hidden gems, proclaim stone-cold classics and shed a light on the human stories behind some of the world's favourite games, companies and systems. Rather than relegate retro and classic gaming news to a footnote as so many other sites do, Time Extension aims to elevate stories to the next level by talking to the people behind the news – be they developers or fans – and providing the definitive perspective on events in the sphere of classic gaming.
Long-time fans of Nintendo Life will know we've always had a strong focus on retro gaming, and while that isn't going to change, you'll find that a lot of the 'fringe' topics we've covered in the past will now find their natural home on Time Extension. The site will cover stuff like arcades, home computers and much more besides, and will hopefully do much to broaden the 'classic gaming' horizons of the network.
I'll be shifting my attention to the new site, but will still be involved with Nintendo Life (and the other Hookshot sites), so you haven't gotten rid of me quite yet. Joining me is the incredibly talented Jack Yarwood, and together we've already created a stack of content that we're really proud of – and there's much more planned.
Check out some of the cool stuff we've already published on Time Extension:
- Full Of Eastern Promise: The Rise And Fall Of Grey Importing
- Best Dreamcast Games
- Soul Blade Composer On The Story Behind Classic Fighting Game Anthem 'Edge of Soul'
- The Mystery Of NES 'Twin Peaks' Solved, Almost Thirty Years Later
- Creator Makes Adorable Tiny Tetris-Like Device
The best news is that, because we operate a single sign-in account across all of our sites, you don't need to create a new log-in to join the Time Extension community – you can head over, log in with your existing account and start leaving comments. We hope you like the new site!

This is a really cool idea for a website! I love retro gaming so this'll be right up my alley
So that's the fourth sibling of Nintendife, PushSquare and PureXBOX?
Congrats! Looking forward to adding another site to my daily checklist.
Sounds cool to me - I'll check it out!
This is right up my alley! Looking forward to digging in!
Why yes, I do! I do like classic gaming!!
Have you guys ever considered running a "Digest" site that just serves articles from Nintendo Life, Push Square, Pure Xbox, and now Time Extension?
That would be really cool to have, for visitors who happen to visit more than one Hookshot network site.
Still waiting for that Stadia website you guys joke-announced at some New Year's article.
I'll be sure to check it out! I like reading about retro gaming and old technology... partially because I wasn't around until the 90s. XD
Wonderful idea! That Soul Blade article is in my sights! That’s one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in gaming!
THAT DARK THEME SURE WOULD BE NICE ON NINTENDO LIFE, GUYS
NINJA APPROVED
This does sound cool but does this mean that all Nintendo news which highlights old tech/games will be on there instead of here?
Exciting times!! ❤️🎉
Congratulations and good luck with the new venture.
Now this I like. And I do love me some retro gaming.
Sounds good! If nothing else it should put an end to the 'what is this, Sega Life?????' comments.
@Bunkerneath Not at all. NL will still cover retro, and there will most likely be some overlap between the two sites. TE's remit goes way beyond just covering Nintendo stuff... it will cover arcade games, home computer games, perhaps even board games and other related stuff as well.
@Dogorilla You've seen entirely through my cunning plan
@BloodNinja
As a matter of fact, you can enable a dark theme on Nintendo Life.
It's a beta feature currently only discoverable through this forum post.

Sounds right up my street
Good luck and have fun with the new site. I checked out the dreamcast article. Really cool list of must haves. For some reason the dreamcast is one of the consoles I feel the most nostalgic about, and I never even owned one. I played Shenmue a few years ago and it became one of my most beloved games.
Oh great, congratulations guys ^^
Really is good idea know some of gaming history, and recently, and I was wandering YouTube videos of video games that I never have known and also, of some games that the time wasn't good with they and is good remember them
@RupeeClock The floaters in my eyes thank you. Between this and Wikipedia, I couldn’t concentrate for all the movement on that white background
checked out seen amico aint dead as con man ceo who was involved with another scam console says so. and the dev say well were doing zero work on game but console aint dead. Really great work all round
@RupeeClock You are a saint, a scholar, and other nice words that start with “s.”
NINJA APPROVED (Now I can be dark!!)
Thank you
I feel great. I already used PushSquare a few times and Pure Xbox about once. I am going to like this ne website.
Love this idea
Awesome, this is right up my alley.
Looking forward to an explosion of N64 content!
Looks great. Bookmarked for sure !
@Damo This is great news. I was just talking with another user the other day on how the retro gaming scene seemed to die here and that I can't think of another place on the internet where we could get our retro goodness from. This sounds like the perfect place. Thank you and see you there.
⚠️Wouldn't it have been better so that my NL Account is linked across PSq and PXB?
@BlueGBAMicro
Your Nintendo Life account is actually a Hookshot Media account, and the same login will work on all four sites.
As young boy trapped in the body of an aging late-30s man, this type of content is far more relevant to my interests.
When did this new website kick-off?
I've had a very quick browse, bookmarked it and happily noticed it recognises my NL and PushSquare credentials more happy website reading !
The first thing I thought of when seeing that name:
Jokes aside, this looks great! I'm not the biggest into retro gaming myself, though I have been converted with the NSO apps on Switch, since that was a generation that pretty much completely passed me by (I was of the Wii/DS era myself) but I'll definitely be checking it out all the same!
@RupeeClock Game changer! Thank you!
Ah nove.. love retro and now you can put sega, mini reviews etc pn there and just refer to it..
Yes but what’s the framerate? We need to know these things???!??!?
i'll check it out. thanks for sharing!
I'll check out the dreamcast best games articles
Love retro games! This is awesome!
I check out Nintendolife and PushSquare almost every day. Never heard of Pure Xbox though, what do they cover?
When did Nlife rename to Hookshot, and was it a topic here? I‘m surprised. And retro gaming is always a good idea 👍🏻.
@FatWormBlowsASparky Haha
Just skimmed through a couple of the articles on there, as I said on the welcome article on TE, I look forward to seeing how the website develops.
C64 > Speccy.
(Ahem, just practicing for when I visit the site lol.)
@GrailUK
Bit early for April fools. 🤔
It'd be nice if you had links to your other sites within each one. At the top of the page you could have icons for each site each linking to each respective site.
Great to see a site dedicated to all things retro, looking forward to this.
@FatWormBlowsASparky Hehe (it's just cheek. 8 bit wars are long done.)
Looks pretty cool and that logo is SICK. I'll have to give it a gander later.
Edit: Gave it a gander AND started a forum for classic adventure games. Killed two birds with one stone. https://www.timeextension.com/forums/pc-home-computers/classic_adventure_games
@Damo Is the TE cookie policy different than NL, etc.? Seems to read that way to me, unless NL policy has changed since I last read it. Sounds somewhat invasive at face value.
Looks nice, a good alternative site for all things retro like the mini consoles, arcade re-releases, repro releases, and retro style consoles such as the Atari VCS, Polymega, Analogue systems, Playdate, and EverCade.
@RupeeClock I've tried to login on PSq but unable to.
The site says I need to create an Account.
If all goes well, that will be a second website that I check daily besides this one. Time for me to head on over...
Cool.
I'll definitely check it out, Nintendo Life is a site I come to on a daily basis, maybe this one will be as well.
What a great idea. The site looks really well done!
That’s fantastic! I’ll be checking in there regularly as well.
Congrats; I’ll make sure that I’ll check it out regularly
Just been checking the site out love the look of it and some great articles already every time I load the site up I hear time extension from virtua racing in my head 😂
@Damo I remember a former NL Staff member, a Mr. James Newton, who talked about pitching "SegaLife". I believe he wanted to call it SegaFusion? It's been a decade at this point, sadly can't remember clearly. Hopefully @ James is still working for NoE or enjoying a promotion elsewhere.
@Knuckles Yep, still at NOE
Congratulations guys on the new site!
@James Haha, hello James! I purposely put that space there to avoid tagging you. I hadn't seen you comment here in ages and didn't want to bother you with that old memory.
Glad to hear you're still at NOE! Have a great day!
Wow! Loving the visual design
Looks great! Added to my favourites
As a side note, you should check out ProJared's new "Now in the 90s" videos he uploads on Fridays, if this is your cup of tea. Really interesting videos, which detail obscure video game releases on that day 30 years ago
You had me at arcades.
Logged in. I'm 45 so that website sounds ideal for someone like me.
No, I don't think I will. 🙂
I came to this article wondering why there were hot pink highlighted articles that led to another site... I was convinced it was some kind of ad-related thing. Turns out I might still be right?
Website seems like a cool idea, by why the embedded links on the regular NL website? Strangely, when you look at past weeks' pages, there is no Time Extension link. It's only on the splash page. Weird.
