UK chart data is now in for the week ending 13th June, revealing that Nintendo has managed to secure six of the top ten places.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe leads the charge this week, managing to race its way into first from last week's seventh place. It has overtaken both last week's number one, FIFA 20, and Nintendo's own Ring Fit Adventure in the process.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still going strong in fifth, too, while last week's newcomer, 51 Worldwide Games, also remains in the top ten.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |

It is a great time to be a Nintendo fan!
Would people please stop buying Mario Kart 8? We are all eagerly awaiting Mario Kart 9 but that may not ever happen because of how well 8 is selling. So stop buying Mario Kart 8.
Nintendo need to release Mario Kart 9 already, obviously!.... Ok, no XD. This game is unstoppable, I don´t believe they´re even thinking about making a new entry yet.
Diddy Kong Racing and F-Zero, on the other hand...
@LavaTwilight
Good luck trying to tell people not to buy a fun game with Mario on it. You may as well tell everyone not to breathe. XD
@LavaTwilight that and gta 5 need to stop. Neither franchise will get a new game until the previous one is out the 10 ten in various countries.
Are you sure this isn’t the French or perhaps even the Japanese chart?
Unbelievable.
Helps that there's hardly any new games out from playstation, xbox or the big third parties
Though I suppose next weeks number one will be totally different
You know why there's no GTA VI? Because GTA V is still selling like hotcakes.
You know why there is no Mario Kart 9? Because 8 is still selling.
You know what's different? Rockstar is still updating GTA V.
Come on Nintendo, I actually agree with sticking with MK8DX. But you totally could do another DLC expansion for the game. More racers and tracks, themed on Switch titles would be great!
Starting to annoy me seeing gta 5 still there, along as its there they won't need to make gta 6
Infact wouldn't surprise me if they release a switch version just to milk it a little bit more
I think there is a decent run of hardware stock coming in the UK at the moment. I would suspect a lot of people are buying MarioKart with their new Switch.
@Heavyarms55 If GTAV is anything to go by, we'll get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Remastered on the Switch 2.
@playstation_king
They are already making GTA6.. Well be a next gen consoles game.
Personally think it's a miss of free money that we have no GTA V Switch.
As for Mario kart, it's being purchased by all the new switch owners out there.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a beast!!
51 Worldwide games looks like it might have some real legs.
I imagine there are stock issues for Animal Crossing which is why it is only fifth.
The green fella continues to succeed!
Xenoblade drops out of the top 40 after two weeks which isn't a surprise but I wonder if any other game that debuted in first has dropped that fast?
For anyone who thinks we will get a Mario Kart 9 on Switch, you will be in for a long wait😂
Truly impressed. I've been a UK Nintendo fan since the 80s and I haven't seen a top 10 like this in I don't know how long. In the immortal words of Field of Dreams "if you build it, they will come..."
Mario Kart 8 is the new GTA 5. There's a new rumour Mario Kart 9 was going to be the big holiday 2020 game but because of Covid it's been delayed.
here in switzerland finally giving up to kids after surrviving lockdown and getting a switch i could only find one in wild for sale the lets go pokemon one. which delighted the kids no end. but im guessing they have sold a sssssssssssssss load of switches lately
@playstation_king
Why struggle getting it on switch when you can put it on the PS5!
@KoopaTheQuick While true, there's been other things Nintendo has 'never done before' that they suddenly did do. Making mobile games, making an official Mario level editor, adding third-parties to Smash Bros, working closely with a direct console competitor, make Zelda open world, and heck, even Mario Kart 8 itself can be counted here as the first time they ever ported a Mario Kart game (not counting Virtual Console).
I also don't think Mario Kart 9 will happen for the Switch but I wouldn't rule it out just because Nintendo never released 2 Mario Kart games on the same console before. Because, Mario Kart 8 is still very much a Wii U game, so the Switch has yet to receive its own one.. if it ever will of course. But that remains to be seen.
@KoopaTheQuick While that's true, they've also never released a port of a previous console's Mario Kart before. That said, I don't think we'll get a new one either. I do think we'll get a new racer from them though, perhaps Donkey Kong Racing or the rumoured Starfox GP.
@OorWullie wasn’t StarFox GP just people getting confused with leaked screenshots of the racing in Starlink?
I would love a F-Zero X StarFox racing game or of course a new DKR. Or even any of Nintendo’s racing IPs. They have so many dormant racing IPs. It makes me sad.
@LavaTwilight yes, master. /s
I don't even plan to buy it in the near future (still on MK7), but I doubt "stop buying x so they release y" is going to fly well with anyone who doesn't have MK8 yet - they might likewise have no need for a new entry before they catch up with the current one.
@dew12333 "struggle" to put a Gen 7 game with a few more recent features on a console that predictably dwarfs Gen 7 hardware? Rockstar already successfully commissioned L.A. Noire with its massive eponymous urban map, a game two years older than GTA V at that. As for motivation and market potential, they remain unchanged: Switch does what PlayBox SX5 don't.
@nhSnork
You owe it to yourself to buy MK8 Deluxe if you have a Switch.
Best Mario Kart hands down.
@beazlen1 F-Zero X vs StarFox!.... Take my money!
@AhabSpampurse,
Yes the Switch has been a major change of fortunes for Nintendo in all regions, nice to see.
Nothing impresses me more than seeing GTA inside that Top5. What a colossus. Amazing week for Nintendo, love to see it.
@TheFullAndy it's been on my wishlist since release, there are just other priorities including the aforementioned previous entry in my backlog. Which is pretty much the story of my life with Nintendo franchises and the reason that, for all my appreciation and respect for them, Nintendo games remain a blatant minority (roughly 2% when I last tried a rough calculation) in my Switch library. Outside the CGC packs, that is.
@LavaTwilight It'll happen on the next console regardless of whether it continues to sell as it has or suddenly dies out.
To release a MK this late in the life of a console that already has one would be an idiotic move from a business perspective unless they were launching it on the new console at the same time BOTW-style (or making Switch 2 play Switch games natively like GBC)
GTA V is a PS3 game and MK8 is WiiU to boot. Minecraft is, er, Windows XP?
LUIGI'S MANSION 3 BACK IN THE TOP 10 BAYBEE.
A Wii u game is number 1. Wow
Is that Minecraft statistic definitely for the Switch version only?
@nhSnork
Respect for actually looking at other games that are not Nintendo games. A lot of people swear by Nintendo releases and don't try anything else and as a result miss out on countless great games.
@AmplifyMJ
GTA V is a game I bought on sale for PS4 but honestly I think it is a bit rubbish. Cringe worthy writing, dated visuals and awful third person controls. Played for a few hours then deleted.
If the remaster on PS5 clocks in at 60fps with updated visuals I may give it another crack.
Also MK8D is the Switch's answer to GTAV as a sales behemoth. Be interesting to see how many times both games have reclaimed the no.1 spot in the UK charts sinces their initial release. A few times each I reckon.
@KoopaTheQuick well Mario Kart 8 was originally built and released on the WiiU but because most non gamers don't know what a WiiU is they think this is new. Its only a remaster so there's still hope for this Console for a MK9
Im surprised there hasnt been a GTA5 for Switch, especially seeing TakeTwo have been a decent supporter of the Switch and I did think it was because they're busy with 6 and GTA online plus maybe something else but they're just announce GTA5 for PS5! Perhaps Rockstar are the only ones who have a say in this and they're still sour with China Town wars performance plus previous sourness with Nintendo.
@LavaTwilight It would not make sense to make MK9 on Switch. Id much rather just get dlc for MK8 and an MK9 on a new console/handheld whose superior cpu would allow for more complex course design and artificial intelligence and whose gpu would allow for far better image quality and effects.
@Octane Don't joke about that, you're probably not wrong.
@KoopaTheQuick We had a shipment of Switch consoles into the UK last week. GAME (amongst others) were selling overpriced bundles with Mario Kart.
@LavaTwilight I don't get why Nintendo doesn't maked DLCs for this game. I mean I don't need a whole new game, I just need more tracks
Also, wow where is xenoblade chronicles definitive edition? That dropped hard and fast for Nintendo's main rpg franchise other than fire emblem
I see MK9 being a launch game for Switch 2. Also I'd rather they didn't add dlc to MK8 as it is already the deluxe version. I want them to put all their efforts into the next version.
Mario Party though. I wish they would add dlc to that.
Then The Last of Us will come out this weak, and will dug Nintendo into its grave, just like Death Stranding did the last year, only... 10 times bigger this time since The Last of Us is a masterpiece. Nintendo just doesn't have a place in this world anymore, nobody likes their games anymore, even thought sales say otherwise. Nintendo can even make plenty of games that review and sell well, but as long the competition has more vocal fanboys that won't matter, at all.
Imagine if EA wasn't so lazy and FIFA 20 was actually not just 19... if they went the nba2k route and the game was equal in quality to the other consoles...
@BlackKnight93 what the heck are you talking about son?!
@KoopaTheQuick mk8d doesn't count for the Switch. The core game is pretty much the same. With the new consoles coming out, they will need some heavy hitters and it doesn't look like we will have any in the next few. Nintendo would be leaving at least $120MM on the table if the skipped a proper MK for the Switch.
They want to keep the system for another three years, so, they gotta make money and sell systems.... Unless they have some other cards up their sleeves, I don't think they will live off the likes of Paper Mario type releases for the remaining lifecycle of the system.
That said, with MK8D still selling so well, I am with those above, I doubt we will see it soon. PLEASE stop buying it folks.
I can't wait to play the newest ports of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and GTA V in 2050 in 12k240fps.
No, but seriously, I can't believe we're going an entire console cycle without a new Mario Kart. But, with numbers like that, Nintendo isn't going to bother releasing a sequel any time soon.
@BlackKnight93 you seem upset.
No, Nintendo took 5 of the top 10. Stop mis-reporting again.
@AmplifyMJ
That guy has issues.
@BlackKnight93
Get.a.life.
@KoopaTheQuick true... but I'm basing it on the fact that this technically isn't a new Mario Kart but rather a 'deluxe' port from one system to another. Not even a multi-console release such as BotW but a complete port. As such seeing MK9 on Switch shouldn't be completely unexpected.
@BlackKnight93 You've got to come with better bait than that son.
@KoopaTheQuick Probably a ton of people that got fed up with Animal Crossing and want to buy something new .
I expect the next games that will return into the list in july to be Mario Party, Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3 higher up the list, or maybe a Zelda? The switch is bursting with evergreen titles!
@BlackKnight93 The heck are you trying to say? Nobody likes their games but loves to spend money …. because reasons?
@nhSnork I was only joking. It's great to see so much love for the game. If you haven't played it yet, you really owe it to yourself to get it!
@Heavyarms55 Yes I agree that more DLC of classic and new tracks would be great. New riders would be cool too but I'd prefer more tracks.
@BlackKnight93 I've recently discovered that putting chili and cheese on meatloaf is amazing. Highly recommend it.
@mariomaster96 @Scoopz Well they did that with NSMBU, they released practically a brand new game with Super Luigi U. I don't see why they can't do something similar with Mario Kart 8... Super Luigi Kart...
Best selling and no updates along the years, lol
As impressive as it is, I think it might be more an indication of strong Switch sales and very little competition on its own platform as well as others. Buy a Switch, and this is going to be the go to game for most.
@Friendly you're telling me? If I knew why people buy a game only to hate it, I wouldn't be mad about it...
@Chris77 That's a very plausible explanation as, after waiting for weeks / months, someone I know has just received a new Switch today (with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Ring Fit Adventure) from the Official Nintendo UK Store.
@LavaTwilight Because theres little value in releasing a 2nd Mario Kart on the Switch when its hardware wouldnt be able to elevate the series enough to warrant an additional entry. DLC is a better shout whilst MK9 should be held for new hardware.
@BlackKnight93 Well.... I guess you're just wrong and most people don't hate it. And they're spreading the word.
If you combine the original Wii U MK 8 sales with Deluxe, it's around 37 million. Frickin' absurd.
@Scoopz yeah but that's what I mean... like New Super Luigi U was dlc, they could do something similar again
@RainbowGazelle
> Mario Kart 8 DX
> Ring Fit Adventure
> Animal Crossing New Horizons
> Mincraft Switch
> 51 Worldwide Games
> Luigi's Mansion 3
That's 6 games.
@LavaTwilight DLC would be very welcome but the games 3 years old in its deluxe format so its unlikely. Games cant provide new content forever. You just have to make the most of it and also try other reputable kart racers like crash and sonic whilst waiting for mk9 on new hardware. We'll prob have a new system unveiled in 2022 with a launch in 2023.
@Scoopz I still cant believe they didn't use Gamecube's Wario Coliseum for MK8... that track seems built for anti-gravity
@playstation_king
Nothing to do with it at all as this is hardly new for Mario Kart. Besides, let's be honest here, even many of the most hyped games like god of war or RE have come out & may chart for a couple weeks, but then take a significant dip. Or, they're gone out of the top 10 altogether. Yet this game has been out pretty much since last gen & is STILL able to take the top tier spot(s). Something that it's done before well into those other systems primes.
Outside of maybe gta, there's not too many games that can say that. So what you're saying makes a lot of those games seem a lot less interesting when a game that came out pretty much on the Wii U keeps coming around and lapping these other games for YEARS now. Constantly knocking or keeping them out of top slot contention.
I don't want to believe that they're that boring, uninteresting or not engaging at all, so the alternative is just to give Mario Kart it's credit where it's credit is due
@gameboy1975 I wasn't bashing Mario kart 8 in particular its a great game I have it on my switch lite, I just meant the top 10 in general as we're are going through a quiet few weeks. Though switch sales are going up meaning more people want to buy switch games.
What I said about Mario kart not being number 1 next week was meant in a jokey way as the last of us part 2 cones out Friday so obviously that would be top
@TheFullAndy
Bruh, you can change the name Nintendo to playstation or MS & say the exact same thing. So....lol
@playstation_king
Never said that you were bashing the game my friend. Just stating the facts. You also weren't bashing (or even mentioning) gta either, yet I made pretty much the same point.
@KoopaTheQuick Usually a sign that some new console stock has arrived in the UK. Mario Kart is a classic day one game for a lot of people.
@RainbowGazelle
Yeah umm, I know that due to the global pandemic many schools the world over closed up shop & suspended their years, but this is just basic math man. There are clearly SIX games in the top 10 shown on that chart. Soooo while you may've MIS-takingly MIS-counted they're not MIS-reporting anything. LOL 😜
@gameboy1975
Eh? Say what exact same thing?
Mario kart is still Nintendo's biggest game. I can't think of a better Xmas title than Mario kart 9 ... Assuming they can actually come up with a reason to make it different.
Long how has it been since MK8 originally came out? Google says over 6 years now. That's a long time to work on new ideas for a sequel.
@TheFullAndy
The whole fans of X console swearing by only that consoles games & not giving the games on other consoles the time of day, missing out on lots of great games.
@gameboy1975 @westman98 Last I checked, Minecraft isn't published by Nintendo.
@RainbowGazelle
The retail versions of Minecraft are published by the respective platform holders. Minecraft for Switch is published by Nintendo, Minecraft PlayStation Edition is published by Sony, and Minecraft Xbox Edition is published by Microsoft.
@Cathousemaster somehow it's unpopular on this board to want Mk9 on the Switch. I would feel pretty cheated if we don't get a proper MK. That said, I am pretty sure we will. It would sell faster than AC, plus move systems. The Switch is said to be about halfway through its lifecycle. If Nintendo wants to make money, it needs some firepower.
Imo, a track designer, more characters/franchise themed tracks and maybe even an open world mode would be sweet!
@RainbowGazelle
Check harder.
@gameboy1975
I didn't mention other consoles, I meant other games on the Switch not made by Nintendo.
@LavaTwilight your comment is the part of the video game world I have a hard time agreeing with. You're basically telling people how to spend their money in the hopes they spend it in a way that benefits you. That's just fundamentally wrong. I completely understand the desire for Mario Kart 9 (we all want it) but for a parent, grandparent, aunt, friend (whomever) buying a Nintendo Switch for the first time, they likely don't know about the video game world like we do. They are gonna look at a fabulous game like Mario Kart 8 and buy it for whomever the Switch is for. You're basically upset at people spending their own money and finding joy because it doesn't benefit you personally. Try to find the joy for your fellow gamers.
@rockodoodle
It isn't that it is unpopular it is because people are realistic. I would like Mario Kart 9 on Switch too but the bottom line is that the current Mario Kart just topped the UK charts 3 years after its release as it is the de facto game to buy with the Switch. It is usually in the top 10 in the Japanese charts and also in the NPD monthly charts and probably other charts accross the globe.
There is no need from a business perspective for Nintendo to release MK9 on the Switch when they can hold off on it and release it as a launch title for the Switch 2 and watch as the current game continues to sell millions on Switch.
@rockodoodle
"As impressive as it is, I think it might be more an indication of strong Switch sales and very little competition on its own platform"
How can you say that with a straight face when there a 6 Switch titles in the top 10 and 15 in the top 40 of the chart? Clearly plenty of competition games wise on the platform.
People just love Mario Kart and I get you are annoyed it delays the release of 9 but suck it up.
@TheFullAndy not saying it's unimpressive, on the contrary, but there really isn't all that much going on in the gaming world with new consoles coming out. Nintendo's latest release, while cool, is certainly not a game changer for the system. Xenoblade is a decade old remaster. Besides AC, this would be a natural go to title for those in quarantine who just got a Switch.
@rockodoodle
Yes but it is not due to a lack of competition on the platform as you suggested. People just love Mario Kart.
@TheFullAndy Nintendo is on record saying that the Switch is just barely in the second half of its life cycle. I can see that an MK9 would make a get launch title, but they are going to need some big games not only to compete with the new hardware, but to maintain a strong revenue stream. If they can do this without a new MK, more power to them- that would mean a heck of a lineup for the next two years.
@rockodoodle
They have managed every other gen with just the one Mario Kart and they will do the same here. Wii U owners can rightfully be annoyed about that, I am one, but to everyone else MK8D is for all intents and purposes this gens Mario Kart game.
I would be happy with more DLC for 8 because I just can't see 9 happening for this gen. I also have no doubt Nintendo has plenty more games lined up, we would likely know of them already if not for the pandemic.
@LavaTwilight That's some horrible logic, just be patient, mario kart 8 deluxe is a real gem people should still be buying it nothing wrong with that =:3
@TheFullAndy I suppose I could live with more tracks and characters. I think it would be a mistake for them to do nothing. I still think we will see this console get an MK9 and will hold out hope until proven otherwise.
@Quix @Nintendofan83 let me say for the record I was joking, being ironic if you will. I think that it is a great game too, if anyone has a Switch and has never played this game, they owe it to themselves to buy and play it. I agree if I sincerely thought people should spend their money a specific way, that would be particularly totalitarian of me.
I'm sure people will read my first comment and reply before reading this one but that's what happens sometimes. I was joking though.
@rockodoodle
Honestly I hope for your sake that 9 does release this gen, I would like it too as I have been playing 8 since the Wii U.
But I am not optimistic about it so have accepted it won't happen to avoid disappointment. Plus playing MK8Deluxe is still great fun today so nothing to be too sad about!
Grand Theft Auto V having a port soon for the PS5 means that game will never leave that UK chart any time soon for another 10 years.
@TheFullAndy @westman98 Nintendo's UK Store lists the publisher as Mojang AB. I'm not sure how much harder I can check.
@RainbowGazelle
https://ukie.org.uk/news/2020/06/mario-kart-8-deluxe-races-ahead-competition-take-no1
Official UK top 40 listing Minecraft as published by Nintendo. Regardless the Minecraft game in the top 10 is the Switch version and only the Switch version as all console versions are considered separate games so that is 6 games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch in the top 10.
@TheFullAndy it's just a video game, so no tears shed here. I merely disagree that it would be a financial mistake to release one this generation. Take the bird in the hand. I can't imagine this selling less than 20MM in a year.
@TheFullAndy Okay, fair enough. I was unaware of this fact.
@RainbowGazelle
No worries, I find it odd the publisher is different on the Nintendo website from the UK chart so it is understandable why you thought otherwise.
@LavaTwilight Thanks for the message back. I just read what you said and I'm glad it was a goof! I really do hope Mario Kart 9 comes but at this point, what's the motivation for Nintendo? I think everyone who has MK8 would buy MK9 so sales would be massive but MK8 still sells so much. I doubt it gets DLC, either. How could it be the Deluxe version if there is more DLC? The name would confuse people. I think MK9 is likely "down the road"
@LavaTwilight oh ok, well is hard to read sarcasm on a written message but I'm glad you where. As someone who missed out on the Wii-U glory days, been in college and poor at the time, is been great playing everything I missed out on on my switch and is great a lot of this games are seen new life. Again my apologies =
Nintendo, you could've easily gotten 10 bucks a month from me just by regularly adding DLC tracks over the last 4 years. I'm sure many would have bought in too. Missed opportunity.
