Update (Mon 2nd Mar, 2020 17:00 GMT): As a quick reminder, today is the last day of the mighty DOOM sale on Nintendo Switch. The new 2016 game is now back to full price, but the classics are still at their heavily reduced prices. Get 'em while they're hot!
Original Article (Tue 25th Feb, 2020 16:45 GMT): If you've been on the fence about grabbing any of the DOOM series games available on Nintendo Switch, now is absolutely the time to do so.
All games in the series currently available on the system have been heavily reduced for a limited time. We've got all the prices and details you need below:
Discount | Price (UK) | Price (US) | |
---|---|---|---|
DOOM [update: deal now expired] | 50% | £24.99, was £49.99 | $29.99, was $59.99 |
DOOM (1993) | 69/70% | £1.20, was £3.99 | $1.49, was $4.99 |
DOOM II | 69/70% | £1.20, was £3.99 | $1.49, was $4.99 |
DOOM 3 | 69/70% | £2.40, was £7.99 | $2.99, was $9.99 |
It would also seem that the upcoming release of DOOM 64 will only cost £3.99. These prices really are too good to miss.
The 2016 game is on sale until 1st March, while the older titles are on sale until 2nd March. Make sure to snap these up before then.
Thanks to step_over for the tip!

"69% off"
heh, nice
£1.20 for DOOM and DOOM 2 is ridiculous. Those games are SO darn good!
Hopefully other countries will get this sale
Hope the US will do the same soon.
Well if for some strange reason £4 was too much to pay for one of the greatest ever fps games then at £1.20 there really is no excuse. You even get Final Doom and Sigil included with apparently more free content on the way, its frankly amazing value for money
Doom 3 for under $10 is definitely a steal.
If I bought DOOM and DOOM II now, and they never actually added gyro aiming to them, I'd feel cheated. And the games would most likely just clutter up my Switch.
Sorry for beating a dead horse, but it ain't happening until I see them motion controls.
Why is Doom 2016 still so expensive before the sale?
Might be time to dip into my gold points.
I've been kinda curious to try out Doom 3 since I enjoyed the first two Doom games so much, I get that it's something of a different spin but at 3 bucks I don't think there really isn't much of an excuse to give it a shot.
That's pretty cool, but I'd hold off for a physical compilation release.
That's just me personally, as someone that's never played a DOOM game.
US or i will call Isabelle
@Pod I like motion controls but don't see any need for them in those games, you can't look up and down anyway and the shooting is based around strafing with pretty generous auto aim
Update these are also on sale in America now. I just picked up DOOM 1 and 2 for $1.50 each! Doom3 is $2.99 for those interested.
No motion controls, no buy. Developers need to stop being lazy.
To everyone asking for a US sale - just make a european profile on your switch.
EDIT: After setting up the european eshop on your switch, if you don't want to make a new paypal account then you can use cdkeys.com to buy digital eshop cards.
https://www.cdkeys.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=nintendo%20eshop
This is how I got Thunderforce IV on my switch instead of Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar.
I saw these go on sale like this on xbox today, and was hoping the Switch would follow. Want them on Switch first, but for this price I may just get them everywhere.
I would jump on these deals if it was coming to North America too! I have been wanting Doom 2 and 3 for a while.
Holy flerking schnidt! Thanks for the heads up ryan craddock, you're ok.
@Dpullam These are available in NA currently. I just picked them up
I was hesitating because these offers are live on Xbox One too, and there's achievements, but I'd really like to play these games on the go.
@mesome713 yeah if it was Nintendo they would of added it. All these developers are lazy except Nintendo.
What a terrible sale. Nintendo has the best sales.
S/
@Pod @mesome713 I'm 100% behind you on the need for gyro controls in just about any Switch FPS. It made a world of difference in my enjoyment of Doom 2016.
All that being said, old school Doom really is just "Go Left/Go Right" and would only feel weighed down by motion controls.
Time to buy Doom 3 then!
[EDIT] In fact... less than a fiver for all three? Done!
@Dayton311 I just heard!
@La-weejee Nintendo is the best at sales. They make sure their employees get paid very well. Too many companies sell these games dirt cheap and pay and treat their employees like crap. Thanks the gods for Nintendo.
That's a nice discount. Guess I'll get the first 3 then. I've mostly played the first Doom when I was little and beat it once with my brother much later on XBOX. I tried Doom 3 then too. It was quite new back then. It was too scary for me though. Plus I had next to no experience when it came to the FPS genre so I panicked real hard. Let's see if I'm any better now.
I got over 900 gold coins.. in going to use them to get Doom 1,2,3. Really love getting gold coins for the games i purchase.
@mesome713 yes. Nintendo is the best. Best sales. They give us great deals and my Nintendo rewards for our Wii u and 3ds. Don’t forget the free wallpapers we get with the coins they give too. 😉
Great that they look after their employees. Nintendo is the best
I’m sorry, but what exactly does this have to do with Animal Crossing? 😕
A DOOMsday say of sorts?
@Likethepear it doesn't say it does?
I'm buying all 3 on Switch, and Doom 3 again as it runs at 4K/60 on Xbox One X.
All of them is dumped for Xbox One too.
Tbh at that price I will pick up doom 1 - 3 even though I would prefer to play on pc but to have them on the go for that price is too good to pass on.
EDIT: is doom 3 the original doom 3 or the BFG version?
@SilentHunter382 The BFG Edition.
@Pod Gyro aiming only makes sense on Doom 3 and Doom 2016. Doom and Doom 2 don't have up/down aiming — you can't look up and down using gyro controls or otherwise except in specialized source ports on PC.
I don't know if it has this feature or not, but it wouldn't work very well, since the game functions more like a top-down shooter than a third-person shooter in terms of how it controls, aims etc.
Doom 2016 and Doom 3 should def have it. I know 2016 does. I don't know about 3.
I have put over 20hours in to DOOM and I am amazed just how much fun it has been. Fantastic and unmissable at the £3.99 I paid, absolutely CRIMINAL to not snap them up now! DOOM 2016 is awesome on Switch as well. Thanks for the news @ryancraddock!
Grabbed both old games for Switch and Xbox. Really a good steal coming from Bethesda
“If you guys are really us, what number are we thinking of?”
“69 Dude!“
Will now pick up Doom 3 at that price
@SteelSunglass cheers.
@Gerald Bill and Ted reference oh my
@mesome713 "Nintendo is the best at sales" 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the laugh.
Well I have over 300 gold coins and read that they are now updated to some very good versions of the games, so basically getting Doom 1 and 2 for free now. No excuse to not have them on my Switch anymore. Already bought 3 and have the reboot.
Sheesh, I just bought OG Doom a few days ago at full price. Probably going to pick up the rest.
I literally bought the original Doom last week.
@clvr I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who found that funny. 😀
@Dman10 I came to say the same thing. If it's $20 or under I'll buy right away, but not at the sale price even.
@mike_intv Same. Doom BFG Edition isn’t on Switch, but I wanted to at least have a portable copy of the original.
I instantly bought Doom and Doom 2.
Someone remind me to get 1 and 2 when I get home. Finished 3 already (could do with motion controls but it was certainly playable after 5 minutes adjustment) but I have gold coins to spend and this is perfect.
@JokerCK
lol what?
@RupeeClock There will be no physical as it would cost way too much vs download versions.
All these people complaining about lack of motion for doom I & II has me face palming so hard. Like im not an elitist. People should play games the way they want to but OG doom doesnt warrant gyro control because there is wasnt any kind of vertical aiming. Even if there are enemies above you, your still technically on the same vertical plane engine wise.
@SquareOneMJ a lot of preview articles from press who have played has said doom eternal has built upon so much of was makes doom 2016 so awesome that it almost ruins it in comparison. I cant wait for eternal.
@mesome713 even if you worked 40 hours a week you still wouldnt be working half as hard or as long as any programmer/dev who is polishing a game before release so GTFO with that lazy developer BS.
@Expa0 it’s a pretty damn good game although the graphics haven’t aged too well. Look past that and I bet you’ll enjoy it quite a bit. I’m currently halfway through the main campaign and having a ball.
@mesome713 you need to stop with your awful, overgeneralized accusations.
Bargains! I've been on the fence about buying Doom 3.
@Maschinenmensch I'm so sorry.
@codyf me too I am so excited for Eternal, I’d never played any DOOM before despite it being THE game when I was growing up. For some reason DOOM 2016 was the first game I bought when I got my Switch and I absolutely loved it. Cannot wait for Eternal. #NintenDOOMED
@mesome713 i feel like majority of the reason to have gyro is for vertical aiming to line up head shots better due to the joycon have terrible analog sticks. i too enjoy gyro but only on the y axis. i just dont know why left and right gyro is needed since the game mostly wants you to run and strafe. yea bethesda sucks but ID software has the largest stake in the doom IP to keep publisher influence from making critical business decisions.
@mesome713 be more mindful of what you say; your comments seem very accusatory and rude sometimes.
Good on you for apologizing, though. :3
@SquareOneMJ my dad would let me watch him play doom back in 94. 2016 doom had that wierd thing were the press didnt get review copies til release day. i bought it anyways despite reviews not being out and was so pleased to see that they were cooking with the same ingedients.
Sold... All 3 of them! And Doom64 will be mine too!
Still gotta get back to the Physical Doom that I got to kick some monster butts.
Well for those prices that's an instant purchase. Already had the original and 2016 so I'll be more than happy to add II and 3 to my collection
What is the difference between DOOM and DOOM 64? Sounds like a port of a port.
@Pod Wanting motion controls on games that feature heavy aim-assist and only allow you to move on a horizontal plane is a weirdly entitled ask.
Edit: apologies if that came off as rude. I see other people have already refuted the idea in more detail.
@SmaggTheSmug The same difference between Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3.
They're different games. Despite the PS1 getting a direct port of Doom 1, Doom 64 has its own soundtrack, levels and sprites. Lacks multiplayer though.
@Zenszulu when I saw the 1st comment on this article, that was the 1st thing I thought.
I couldn’t help it, it just popped in there
Edit: Ha Ha, comment 69, brilliant
Edit again: Well it was comment 69, but now it’s comment 70
@Pod motion controls for a left/right axis limited sprite based shooter...
@codyf I just can't imagine playing any fps without mouse like controls. It should be a sin. I'd either play Doom with gyro, or play it on my PC with a mouse and keyboard.
@SmaggTheSmug Doom 64 is a completely original Doom game developed for the N64 it was the only one really designed for a specific console and features all new levels.
@Gerald it just makes me feel old thinking how old the movie is now. So bad that one reference can do that.
@Pod why? Why do you need motion controls before you spend a whole £1.20 on one of the most iconic games ever made? It didn’t have motion controls anyway....
@fusermarucs They're probably a PC gamer like most Doom fans and use to motion controls from mouse and keyboard setup. I could never imagine playing a fps without motion controls. Life is too short.
Grabbed DOOM II awhile back, so decided to just grab DOOM (1993) right now. I have all the classic DOOM games on PC, so this is nothing more than just the convenience of having it on my Switch.
@mesome713 Arguably life is also too short to keep posting negativity towards other people's preferences in an online comment section
Any of these require minimal use of the left stick?
Sounds fantastic but as I have no use in my left hand twin stick games are beyond me so even with an adapted controller I'm stuck with right stick only so don't think I can play these.
@Sunsy I bought all 3 Doom games again on Switch because they were recently fixed, and for portability.
I also bought Doom 3 for Xbox One X today as it runs at native 4K/60.
@Coach_A You mean like calling someone who wants motion controls entitled. You make a good point, you should listen to your own advice.
I bought all three of the classic Doom games, that is just too good of a price to pass up!
I still don’t get why the delay of DOOM Eternal meant they had to delay DOOM 64 for the Switch.
@codyf I'm not a game dev but I am a dev and he is pretty fair in his comments. It does my head in when I see lazily done code because guess what, lazy code leads to problems with bugs, performance, crunch time and missed features because of lack of time...and I have to boyscout it all because I'm not a lazy dev. So damn you lazy developers! That being said I don't see the point in motion controls for Doom 1/2.
I really don't get this demanding for gyro controls in Doom 1 and 2. I understand wanting it for other shooters, but not here. They don't even let you aim your weapons in those games, it provides no benefit.
@Dman10
Why is Doom 2016 still so expensive even when on sale?
I mean, even on sale at 50%, it's priced higher than the REGULAR price EVERYWHERE ELSE. This is a total joke.
Although I bought Doom 3. Already have Doom1993, and Doom3 for about 4 bucks is a no brainer.
But Doom 2016... 50% off and STILL pricier than regular price everywhere else... LOL!!!! It's so insulting that it's laughable.
@mesome713 it is so easy to blame "lazy developers", but most of the time it has nothing to do with laziness and much more towards resources and budget dedicated towards a project. Adding motion controls its not a checkbox, it requires time = money.
@RupeeClock Man I have been waiting for them to announce a physical for what seems like ages now. Here's to hoping they were just waiting for DOOM 64 to release so they could add it in there.
@Danito I know it takes time and money. Im stating if they had taking the time and money to invest, they would have made more money. Why they didnt, well we all have our opinions as to why.
The sale is active in the US if anyone's interested. I wanted to wait and see if multiplayer would be added but honestly these deals are a steal. Might just nab them all up.
Its funny hearing so many people clamouring for motion support in this generation, who sound exactly like those who intensely hated them in the past. And I'll admit I've been guilty of it too – the same old dull drone.
Meanwhile other gamers just got on with enjoying whatever games they liked the look of, without waiting for a patch to fix the things they didn't like the look of.
Doom Classic doesn't have motion controls and that's that – play it or don't, or come back when your wish may have been granted.
It's not like we haven't got piles of other shit to keep us entertained/distracted.
I'm tempted to download DOOM 3 at that price, but I'm still inclined wait a bit longer for a cartridge release of all of the classic DOOM games.
@1UP_MARIO yeah I get that we're on a Nintendo fan site, and I've played Nintendo games all my life and probably will until I'm old and sick, but such blatant fanboyism is just too much: "Oh my favorite corporate is better than the others and I claim things I can't possibly know in regards to their working conditions, yahoooooo".
You can either get mad or laugh 😆
Well I was going to skip this but I ended up having enough in my wallet so all 3 of them are mine yet again.
I got DOOM (the original) for about €0.00 thanks to getting to spend 150 gold coins on it. I never owned, or even played, that game, so I figured this was as good an opportunity as any to finally give it a go! If I like it enough I may buy the others too while they're still on sale but I generally don't like FPS games much so I'm not really counting on it, but I've been surprised before.
Squeenix and Capcom should take note of those release prices....
Know nothing about Doom,but hey now seems a perfect opportunity to get into that legendary series
@mesome713 Doom 2016 has motion controls, Doom 1 and 2 don't even have full direction aiming and don't need it at all lol.
The price of doom was $1.49 in North America before Pangaea even existed.
@Pod
To each their own, but gyro controlled vanilla Doom sounds like my idea of hell (no pun intended).
@Pod Uhh, gyro controls would be horrible in classic Doom.
Well I’m glad I didn’t pull the trigger on Doom 3 a few days ago.
@Olliemar28 Hell, they're also reduced to these prices on XBONE this week so may as well double dip on all 3. XD
I have no clue how many games I have currently have on my switch and I don’t feel like counting but downloading 1, 2 and 3 today right next to each other really really exploit The NEED for folders.
@carlos82 @robr @vio @spirit_flame @seaniccus @Desrever
Motion controlled aiming in vanilla DOOM actually feels great for the homebrew edition released on Wii.
Great enough that I don't want to go back. That was IR aiming of course, but current gyro tech would probably pull it off even better. The lack of an up-down axis and the presence of aim assist aren't deal breakers in that regard.
To me, it still feels better than dual-analog, which incidentally could be said to also be quite the overkill for controlling a game as simple as DOOM.
@fusermarucs
It didn't originally have portability, dual analog control, or a framerate above 35fps either. Moreso than needing gyro aim, I merely want it, for reasons similar to why someone else would want any of those.
@Coach_A
Rudeness allowed!
Entitlement questioned, however. Gyro aiming is rather easy to add, and has been proven to work for the game several times over.
If the game had originally launched on Switch with only button input for control, like the first PC shareware edition, I'm pretty sure most modern players would have demanded dual-analog be implemented.
Imagine a PC shooter launching without mouse aiming these days.
IR and gyroscopic aiming for FPS has now been around in fully functional form for over thirteen years, and not implementing it is starting to look really really sloppy.
Was waiting for a game to spend my gold points on and this is it Doom 3 baby
I do not like shooters
I have never played a Doom game
I'm trying to save money
I bought 1 and 2 with my gold points and 33 cents.
I played through the first episode
I had a blast
A perfect time to rip and tear!
@ilh yea but its not the majority. Ive met a lot of talented developers who run in to similar issues. Why? Cuz games are hard. Haha
@mesome713 sure. I mean theres a reason why doom was on almost ever console because it wasnt a mouse and keyboard game. Back playing on windows 95 you controlled it with arrow keys,ctrl, and spacebar. That was really it. OG doom wasnt mouse and keyboard. Mouse controls weren't even a thing until half life,quake, and that ol star wars fps.
3 bucks for 2 games that normally cost 5 bucks each? Don't mind if I do...
Ridiculously good prices. Can’t see any reason to not buy them now. Unless you really don’t like DOOM I suppose.
I’m assuming complaints about lacking Motion Controls in OG DOOM is a riff on people asking for them in everything. Good gag TBF.
@Pod You can't aim up or down in doom though, so would be pointless. Unless they added that like in some basic mods on PC
@progx We did. It's on in Canada.
Wow, those prices are a steal. Will pick up after work today
@cmk8
You need both sticks to play.
@PringleMuffin cheers. Guess that's me out then! Appreciate the reply.
@Swindla
The game plays very nicely with motion aiming, even if the Y-axis isn't controlled. It has been done before, and it works.
I'm sure you wouldn't like it either if you were forced to only use the D-pad for movement and shoulder buttons for strafing, because someone argued that dual-analog was pointless, given the nature of the game.
@electrolite77
It isn't a riff. I genuinely want it.
Because it feels great.
@Pod I would not like gyro controls on these as there is no look up or down. Give it a shot! They are fantastic.
@Danrenfroe2016
Oh I know they are, I've bougt them several times over back in the day. And I know they're fantastic with gyro-aiming as well, in spite of the absense of up-down aiming.
Even if it was in there, and you didn't like it, I'm pretty sure you'd be allowed to turn it off.
Just got 1 and 2 - been way too long since I've played these and I never beat them. Having a ton of fun so far.
Never really heard much about 3 tho,, does anyone recommend it?
@neogyo Three is a great game. But IMHO it's not Classic Doom. It's a great game, but it's much slower and more of a horror fps.
@Danrenfroe2016 ah gotya thanks for the info. I’m not as into horror so that’s good to know
I buckled and bought DOOM 3. It doesn't look nearly as good as I remember (though this version is based on the BFG Edition, and not the original 2004 version I had played back in the day).
I need to get these games sharpish at this price! Which is better doom or doom 2 anyone. Gonna get them all anyways
But yeah doom 2016 on ps4 is really cheap but it's the switch games which cost top dollar. Just the way it is!
@ryobi85 I wouldn't rate Doom 1 or 2 over the other. They're both brilliant in their own way. Gameplay wise, they both hold up remarkably well. I've spent about 80 hours with the 2 of them, superb games. I highly recommend Doom 3 as well, it's brilliant. It's like a mix of Classic Doom and Doom 2016. I'm playing it just now actually.
Scored all 3 in the US for around 5 bucks
I picked up the first two. Can’t beat that price!
Been having so much fun with doom 1
Really happy to get Doom 3 for free with my gold points as had picked up the other releases earlier. Works great in handheld.
Judging by the charts it looks like a lot of people have picked up all 3
I was mostly interested in the third one, but I did pick up all three. Great deals.
I’ve got every DOOM game on my Switch now..
I feel like a Lord of Hell.
Could I get a Hell Yeah?
Picked up all 3 also. €6 for 3 games is great and I also finally bought Doom 2016 the weekend also but on PC.
3 great games... Such a cheap price for hours of entertainment.
I'm playing Doom 1 for the first time in 2020 and I cannot stress enough how good the game is even today.
It's mind-boggling how well it holds up 27 years later; if you're on the fence, just get it, you won't regret it.
It's still better than a lot of other FPS's I've played on Gen 6 and Gen 7 consoles, and has really a lot of content in it.
I can't imagine what it must have felt like to play such a visionary masterpiece in 1993, I really cannot.
Just checked the Australian store and they're not on sale😕
Just checked in canada as I regretted picking only doom 3, and every classic doom is no longer on sale while the newer entry is still 50% off, so complete opposite to the above table.
Bought doom 2 and 3 the first for free and the second jist 1.89 using my Nintendo points
Apparently on the eShop (US) only Doom(2016) is still on sale.... Bummer I was about to buy Doom 3.
I got 1 and 2 last week, and been playing 1 so much. When they were first out, I hated them. It was Doom 2 I tried in the day then and just found it so dull and mundane - especially the core gameplay of find a key to a door. For some reason, I really like Doom 1. Perhaps it's the better game? I might now pick up Doom 3. I didn't initially because the first 2 might have been enough, and it's a big download. I think 4GB compared to less than 1GB for the first two.
@HalBailman I'm not sure Doom 1 is distinctly better, but the larger convoluted levels of Doom 2 didn't always lead to a better experience. Many people (like me:) do prefer 1 better because of its tighter level design. But I have been enjoying both.
[obligatory grumpy old guy shaking his fist at the clouds comment regarding motion controls]
@ryobi85 : DOOM II is basically DOOM I with a few new monsters, a double-barrel shotgun, and some tough new maps. The engine and most of the graphics are identical. Final DOOM, which was released in 1996, was a full-priced standalone release which was basically two DOOM II map packs (and was criticised as a result), and can be downloaded at no extra cost within the console versions of both games, which adds further value to these packages.
In any case, both games are great and I can't recommend them enough, even for those who aren't particularly fond of FPS games. The first two DOOM games are every bit as today as they were 25 years ago.
@Silly_G played them for 20 just to have a run around and yeah was fun. I like how you don't have to kill everything and finish level by getting to door.cant jump which was wierd with all the ledges but got used to that. How many levels in doom?
@OorWullie just had a run around doom3 before bed and the crew are so wierd. Not come across any scum to kill yet though! Only just started! I hope the shotgun is satisfying to use 😬
So cool to have 3 doom games for under a fiver... Gotta be deal of the year for these classics!
When did this actually end? Yesterday I checked both US eShop and a European one and didn't see the deals at all, unfortunately.
@ryobi85 : 36 total in DOOM, inclusive of one secret level for each episode. DOOM II has 32 levels in total, two of which are secret. Bear in mind that DOOM originally had only three episodes, but a fourth was added for its retail debut in 1996 (PC games back then were generally distributed via BBS and mail order).
Never played a doom game before. I didn't make it in time. 4.99 is not a bad price, but I'll wait for the next sale. I may be playing the new one first I guess
