A new challenge event has appeared in the 3DS eShop title Pokémon Shuffle that offers the chance to Mega Evolve your Lucario.
The event - which runs for the next week and requires Version 1.1.3 of the game - sees you facing off against a Mega Lucario with a single minute on the timer and no HP. The aim is to earn as many points as possible in those 60 seconds.
At the end of the week, the top 20,000 players in the west (or 50,000 if you're on the Japan version) will receive a Lucarionite to allow their Lucario to Mega Evolve. The prizes will be distributed to winners between March 23rd and March 30th. Even if you don't make it into the top rank of players, you'll still receive a free jewel for your time.
Let us know if you've entered the competition - and what your rank and top score is - by posting a comment.
Thanks to RupeeClock for the tip!

I scored 13,400 points this morning, which I think at the time ranked me somewhere around 113 out of 8000 scores?
By premise I don't like the event, why limit 20,000 players to a Lucarionite? This game just celebrated a million downloads, of course that doesn't equate to a million active players.
@RupeeClock I forgot to credit you for the tip - fixed
@Damo Oh, thank you.
"Why limit 20,000 players to a Lucarionite?"
To get angry all the rest?
HAHA
Joke's on them I hate Lucario
So do Europe and North-America both have their own seperate rankings list in which the 20k best get the lucarionite? Because that's what it looks like in-game.
@haniwa I don't see how is it even a 'joke', not that we cared about who or what you hate.
I cant log in. "Sweet".
Nintendo, you wont invested much in your servers right?
Or too many willing to participate?
Or both?
Update: No, it just my crappy router.
Internet on cable works fine but wifi get trouble.
I hate wi-fi.
@DontPlayDumb
where do you live, from the looks of it you can't participate if you live outside the americas / PAL or Japan (not sure about korea).
Just checked now and im number 109 out of 20139, so wheres my mega?
I know most people on here don't care but is there a link to the rules somewhere? Or is there a limit to how many times you can enter? What if 1 person keeps playing and gets the Top 20,000 scores?
From wat I can Google it looks like you can buy items, so I'm out, people w/ money to spend will just buy 1 of each and get the top scores, and I'm up to level 130 or so and I've only used items once or twice the entire game, on 2 levels I just couldn't get past. I'm not using coins on this.
Oh well, I'll give it a shot after I wake up and post back here what I find.
Im gussing tomorrow maybe we will get megas. Still waiting for Absolite, and nothing to do as i completed the game.
What is the point in limiting the lucarionite? This is an offline/single game...unless I am missing something here. What do they hope to get out of this.....? Unless it is money...
8912 has scored me 4961 out of 29,435. Feeling a bit out classed by the top scores but I'll try and improve throughout the week to get the stone. This sucks for anyone who can't make the top 20,000.
The players who can win the Lucarionite don't need it.
The player who need Lucarionite can't win it.
That's why limiting the reward to 20,000 players is a bad idea.
Looking at the title screen for pokemon shuffle, there are a lot of pokemon which arent in the game, such as: Greninja, rayquazza, groudon, mime jr. Etc.
And @Pahvi, i guess they probably wouldnt have guessed they would have so many entries this quick, thats why i said that well get it soon. Well in only fooling around.
@RupeeClock maybe right now its 20,000 players first then the rest of the people who didn't get it will receive it as a gift in the future.
What does "Even if you don't make it into the top rank of players, you'll still receive a free jewel for your time." mean, everyone will get the Lucarionite just the winners will get it first
@HeroOfCybertron
Jewels are the premium currency of this game, used to buy extra hearts or coins. They're not the same as Mega Stones.
Anyway, since I'm done with the game already this should be a good thing to keep me interested a little longer. And now there'll be a point in having Mewtwo since there's still something to fight.
I gave it a couple tries and I'm around 1000th place, but I guess as more people try that position will decrease. I'm just grinding my A team as much as I can right now.
Yay a free jewel!!!
I love this game. I can't get enough. I've yet to make an in-game purchase. I can't wait to join the competition, even though I suck at the timed expert levels. However, I believe I'm a version behind because I didn't see this when I last checked. I anticipate Nintendo to continue to add content and new pokemon.
I don't care for Lucario, but I want to get all of the Mega Stones.
@Pahvi - Thanks. Think I'm finally awake enough now to go give it a try. I'm still not spending my coins on any items though. If this were a real contest of skill they should have just made it item free, but it's obviously a contest of - spend real money to buy real coins to win the contest - type of thing.
@James_mussell98
It's a competition you'll only be rewarded if you're in the top 20,000 when the competition ends next week. Right now you're ranked 109th but when the completion ends you may be 15,314th or 45,327th?
@rjejr
It would have been great to see it come down to pure skill but at the same time it is free to play the event and it is a free to play game. I'm willing to bet that most people who play this have not spent a single cent on this game. Also, how many upgrades can you buy at once for a match? I have not tried it but I'm willing to bet that the most upgrades you can get are 1 of each per match. I don' t think buying the two that were mentioned above will give that much of advantage.
@BurningSonic
Same here, I'm trying to "catch 'em all"! and collect all the the mega stones too.
I doubt I'll get it... Not very far in the game and I think I only got around 5000 points last time. There were a little under 20000 people at the time and I was in the 8000's.
I'm so close to getting xerneas and when I do I'll be coming for you lucario.
@dkxcalibur - "I don' t think buying the two that were mentioned above will give that much of advantage."
One of the items you can buy is -1 complexity. If you buy that you only have 3 type of Pokemon instead of 4 showing up on the screen, which will make a HUGE difference in score. Smash Brothers tournaments are almost always played without items for a reason. People who use none, 1, or 2 items on this are all going to get scores in different ranges.
Played it 1 time this morning, only scored about 3,000 so I rank about 25,000 out of 32,000. Really no point playing again unless I want to spend my coins on items, which I don't, I'm still on level 135 - Mega Gengar - and I'd rather spend my coins making it to the last level.
And besides, by Friday somebody will find a glitch where you can score 1 million points by hitting a certain button at a certain time or something and the whole contest will be null and void and we'll all get the Mega Lucario and a jewel. At least that's how I see it playing out.
Score = 14209
Every time after that, my score was worse...
I have no idea how people got into the 30,000 range of points!
Just placed 79 out of 29276... Woah.
It's going to be fun once I try this out WITH items and grinded pokes.
@dkxcalibur you can't get absolite, venusarite, charizardite, blastoisite, pidgeotite, heracrossite, blazikenite, sceptilite, swamperite, scisorite or aerodactylite in the game legitamatly. They may be events as i know you want to get te magas plus yo need 'S' rank on all levels and speciallevels to obtain the last pokemon.
I'll switch between taking a crack at this and progressing through the main game. At least my Pokemon are gaining experience as I try to top my top score.
I too would have loved this to be a competition of skill (and the ever present luck factor) and have it be item free. I could still see people paying for jewels to get more hearts, so they'd still get some money.
I got just under 10,000 in score. I hope it's enough.
If I can only catch Mewtwo in time (So far have had about 21% total chances to catch him.)
I'm currently 60th out of 37630, here's hoping I stay within top 20000
I'm around the 5000th place, I'll be checking later just to make sure I make it into the first 20000
My top score is about 19000, at first I was 18th now I'm somewhere in the hundreds. I should be safe for the Lucarionite, but hopefully not too many people beat 19000 before next week... lol
I MUST WIN IT FOR THE FLUFFY!!!!!
And if I don't, then i'll probably be crabby (@RandomlyPikachu =w= And I think chu know exactly what I mean ;3 )
I'm 9524 about 20 minutes ago.
I wonder how high score can i get without that mewtwo and xerneas .
Getting stuck with Megaaltaria. Trying to catch Charizard. I realised that catching Charizard (ex 9?) is easier than Articuno (ex 4?).
@ DontPlayDumb
I believe the ease of catching Pokemon in the EX stages relies entirely on the time you have left when you beat the level.
Currently 814 out of 67701 with a score of 15693. Since I'm done with everything else in the game right now, I think I'll just keep trying to level up my Pokemon and improve my score a few times a day.
I was in the 8000s last night, just checked again and now I'm in the 30,000s. I'm not far enough in the main game to be strong enough to get high enough scores. Oh well.
With my score of over 13k I am hoping my score will last long enough for me to get the Lucarionite. Fingers crossed!
Shuffle Devs Please Read This Comment Thank You.
Stupid Event all the cheaters get rewarded from this event? It could at least give everyone the mega-stone. I can't even come close to the top 20k and I'm a very experienced player. They should just clear the saves for all the cheaters with more then 5 hearts and no purchases. Then I'd be happy with events like this one, but as it is the events shouldn't be rewarding the cheaters only.. It could be maybe 5 gems for the top 20k and then the mega-stones for everyone who enters, this would be much better because the cheaters would then be receiving zero benefit to winning because they have unlimited gems anyways.
@Vexslasher
Seriously? Who is cheating and how in the world would that even be possible?
People who cheated using the QR code before the update got unlimited free purchases. I didn't cheat but I find it to be very unfair for all of us legit players if we have to score high enough to beat those players, we have no chance at the top 20k.
@ Vexslasher
Thanks for the explanation. That kind of sucks. That said, I've achieved an S rating in all of the 150 standard levels, unlocked and beat all 20 expert levels, beat all of the limited-time foes (special levels), and captured all of the Pokemon released so far (160, not counting the Rotom variants), and I wasn't even aware of this QR code thing, so I still think it's possible to place in the top 20,000 without having cheated. I did have to buy a couple of gem packs to get through the expert levels more quickly, but most of the progress in this game can be made by just checking in regularly.
@kirbygirl I'll probably catch up to you in a few weeks but I don't think there is very many legit players like you that have made it that far yet without spending quite a bit.
Sitting at ninth place right now with a score of 27089. Still haven't tried it out with objects.
I have the slightest suspicion I could leave it as is and still get the stone, buuut being so close I kind of want to get to the top 5.
@LinkSword Wow, congrats!
Where do you get to see your ranking?
I just scored 14,547 and I clicked so fast that I think I missed.. Help!!
@LinkSword
WOW!!!
@James_mussell98
Where can you check your status or rank?
Found it!!
I suppose I'll give this a try, though it's been weeks since I've last played Shuffle.
I don't know how competitive Nintendo leaderboards are but I got Tropical Freeze this past Christmas and consistently ranked in the top 500 in Time Trials without really trying to.
Just reached the top 4 in the EU/AU ranking.
How high you can level each pokemon in this game?
Your pokemon getting exp per each fight it getting involved or it depends on how often you use pokemon, faster he/she get exp?
@kirbygirl
True.
But beating Charizard is much easier for me (its strange because you got 2 minutes with Articuno and 1 with Charizard).
I beat Charizard about 5 times but Articuno 0 .
I've scored about 12,000 or so and I'm in the 4,000s, which in a week will definitely not be enough to get me the stone.
Currently at 16,000 on my mom's 3ds and only 10k on my own
@Vexslasher I didn't use an item, cheat, or do anything like that. I just bought the items using stashed coins and am now in 242 out of 130883 with a score of 21644.... I think you just need to keep trying, it's not that difficult, I'm not even a good player
@UstofDerpinston
What pokemon you used?
Why can't I update the game anymore? I only have version 1.1.1.
I live in Europe by the way.
I got 10016 points and 19562 place or something like that (about 5 minutes ago) Already used complexity -1 ,and 15642 points which gave me 2118 place in ranking.
Shame that i use that item but with my pokemon i think it was necessary to get that stone.(i used slowbro, chatot, taillow and swirling)
Maybe if i start playing this game sooner.
I wonder if they gave us any full information about ranking and how many players got how many points.
Nevermind, as soon as you get the "Check in" option and you do check in the game seems to update. Now I have version 1.1.4.
@Vexslasher
In my first 3 trues, I scored 14 thousand something. I was placed in the mid's 900, so it isn't impossible.
I'm getting my Pokemon to be stronger as possible, and to try with both "cheats". Pokemon - 1 and the one for blocking interference, to see if I can get to the top 100 or something.
I don't have a complete understanding of each Pokemon strengths and weaknesses, so if I can do it, anyone can. The only thing going for me is my ninja-like reflexes.
