Topic: Should Nintendo's next handheld have 3D?

There were mixed reviews about the 3DS' s 3D feature. Some say it's not neccesary, and some say that they ALWAYS use it.

I myself have only used it 2-6 times, and I have had a 3DS for around 2 years. Do you think the 3DS' s succesor should have the 3D feature? Or do you think it's useless?

Keep in mind, that the 3D isn't a simple "side feature". It has to render the image twice, so it takes more power. Which is why games that run at 60fps, especially games that have a lot of happeing at the same time, sacrifice graphics for performace.

No. It's a waste of power IMO, and I don't think I've used it in the past couple of years.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I wish they had just given the option for either 3D or 60fps when a trade off is needed. (It can be done - Dead or Alive Dimensions does it).

IMO I think time has shown it's an unneeded gimmick at this point (especially wight he release of the 2DS), I never use it myself too much of a pain to get it working right.

Had mine for nearly 2 years, use 3D 9 times out of 10. I'd be disappointed if they dropped it. For the first time ever, I agree with unrandomsam.

As much as i'd really like to see it profit from a better sweet spot and less ghosting (if possible) as well as from a better framerate and a higher resolution i don't think Nintendo will want to add to the device's price by having 3D again.

If it cuts down on the cost of it, then no it should not. It'll most likely be backwards compatible, but there really aren't any 3DS games that even require it, save for those special parts in 3D Land.

I love me some 3D. With that said, I'd like Nintendo to do what they always do, surprise me. Even if their next big idea involves taking the 3D away for monetary reasons or something.

I never used the 3D, since there weren't enough interesting things done with it to balance out the near-certainty of my eyes hurting. That may be just me though. When I use the oculus rift, I don't actually notice the 3D on that either, because I've been so used to playing FPS games on PC over the years, that my brain places me in that 3D environment, and it feels 3D, even when I'm viewing it on a 2D screen.

Put it another way, how many games advertise that they have 3D (on both 3DS and other platforms where, if you have a 3D TV and pair of specs, you can play in 3D)? It can't be that great if it's not helping sell those games.

I don't think Nintendo should make another handheld. Handhelds have essentially been superseded by mobile, and whilst I'm sure they'd sell a few million, Nintendo can probably better use the money / get better returns on their investment by spending the same time and money learning how to make and market mobile games.

Words right off of my keyboard.

I would like the next handheld to have 3D since I use mines almost all the time, but more importantly I would like them to do something innovative like always, with or with the 3D.

I don't think it's necessary. I enjoy the 3D and play with it on the lowest possible setting. It's nice for Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land, but I can certainly live without 3D whenever Nintendo releases their next handheld.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

oh hey another "should the next nintendo handheld have 3D"-thread !

YES YES YES
i love the 3D effect. it makes games look much more alive and i would be VERY disappointed if the next handheld won't have 3D. of course sony says it isn't neccessary, because they don't have it

and to all who can't see 3D properly or whatnot: i feel sorry for you. seriously. games look so much better with 3D. i very very rarely have problems with 3D. maybe some ghosting in resident evil but that's it

Yes. It enhances the visuals for me. Even 2D platformers look better to me because the background is actually that...background. I'm a big fan of it.

The mobile game market is a lost one. Nintendo already said that they had no intentions in making mobile games. $30-40 games won't sell on mobile phones, neither is Nintendo able to keep making a profit with $1 games, while sustaining the quality of their games. Don't forget, Nintendo has dominated the handheld market for as long as it exists. Nintendo sold over 150 million DS systems. As long as they sell more handhelds than home consoles, such statement is out of place. Besides, I wouldn't want to trade in my buttons and analog stick for a touch screen.

It's a pretty nice addition and I use it almost all the time, But I can live without it. I just hope the next handheld console suprises me.

Even if it's not being used directly as a gameplay mechanic, I enjoy the 3D effect just for its visual aesthetic. The imagery just feels more vibrant and alive. I don't want to see it removed, but I would like to see the technology fine tuned.

50 million 3DSs sold in the last 3 years.

There are two things in the video game industry that are guaranteed to move huge numbers, Sony consoles and Nintendo handhelds. One or the other has been the #1 seller every single generation since the Gameboy. Everything else has ups and downs.

Nintendo shouldn't make a new handheld? Hahahaha
Handhelds are INCREDEBLY populair in Japan. Plus, why wouldn't they? The DS was one of the best selling systems in the world. The 3DS sold over 50 million units. They both sold more than their console counterparts.
