Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 11th)

I kicked this weekend off with some Tetris, in a bit I’ll be looking forward to playing Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, as it’s a pretty good game. On the PS4 side of things, I’ll also continue playing OlliOlli World.

Splatfest will be the main thing, it's nice that we now pretty much have confirmation that there's 2 Splatfests per season.

I played Pokemon Violet all day long.

After playing for more than 25 hours, I changed my mind a little bit. There were some improvements in QoL such as Pokemon skills that could be remembered again, the freedom to choose which path to be finished first, some different plot of storyline despite I still caught the same things from previous Pokemon games. After some thought, I revised my personal score from 5 / 10 to 6 / 10, but I still have saltiness with abysmal graphic textures for the environments and animations from far away.
Currently I have defeated all the Gym leaders, all Titan Pokemon, still one more Team Star leader Eri to be defeated as I changed my strategy by getting more Pokemon with Fairy, Flying, Ghost and Psychic type to beat Fighting type Pokemon from Team Star Eri.

I’ll be fighting for that milk chocolate 🍫 life during Splatfest. That Nintendo Direct will have my Backlog levelling up soon, and my bank accounts levelling down 😂. Bayonetta 3 and Smash Bros get the rest of my Switch attention.

I really need to give my Xbox Series X more attention, Hifi Rush and need to get back into Dying Light 2 and start Elden Ring!

Metroid Prime Remastered

The Metroid Prime remaster that dropped out of nowhere, the Dead Space remake that did not drop out of nowhere, and between those being my big games, I’ll also be playing Dead Cells and Castlevania Rondo of Blood. Getting unreasonably hyped for Dead Cells Return to Castlevania next month, and I don’t know if that’s my love for both Dead Cells and Castlevania, or just my sheer desperation for a new Castlevania game period.

It Splatfest, so it can really only be one game I’m playing this weekend. But it does make me happy to see people play Metroid Prime for the first time.

I'll be playing Bayonetta 3, Detective Pikachu and Valiant Hearts: Coming Home

Switch just saw me finish Tallowmere (for its given definition of "finishing" in a game that can supposedly generate a single run's new rooms on and on), but that "backfired" with a mood for other roguelites like Isaac, Little Noah, Children of Morta, Hades, Crown Trick and/or Enter the Gungeon. Then again, there are more itches from the recent stuff like Noel: The Mortal Fate, Strikey Sisters and Lost in Random to the older limelight mainstays/frequenters like Xenoblade trio, RF5, Mary Skelter 2, Saints Row 4, BotW, FFXII, Dying Light and/or Bioshock 2 to the newest items like Destiny Connect, Lapis x Labyrinth, Amazing Superhero Squad and Cultist Simulator. Not sure if I'll be tackling much of the GB/GBC/GBA libraries for now (except maybe 6 Golden Coins?), but they incidentally turned my head towards making more progress in other NSO-based playthroughs like Yoshi's Island and Zelda 2 plus potentially a dose of Pokemon Gold (which, in its turn, might see me drift over to respective doses of Moon and Sword, too).

The dual screens facilitating some of the aforesaid Pokemon sessions are also likely to see some Valentia and Etrian Odyssey Untold, Endless Frontier and Ever Oasis, Fantasy Life and Unwound Future (what a Direct does to a gullible nerd). The PlayStation domain should be variably busy with Exile's End, Eternia, Liberty City Stories, Gravity Rush, Gran Turismo and possibly some VLR on the handheld front as well as FFXV, Code Vein, JC4, Kingdom Hearts, Death Stranding, Agents of Mayhem and possibly some Age of Wonders: Planetfall on the [technically] home console one (I also downloaded almost 30 Gb of Destiny 2 in a petty pursuit of a rather specific Stars campaign's 50 points but gave up a couple screens in after being told to download just 70 Gb more). Time will tell about the laptop, but if it sees any action, that'll most likely be some FFXIII, Mass Effect and JC2.

On PS5 its just Hogwarts Legacy this weekend, so far its been amazing and easily the best game of the year so far.

And on Switch is more Fire Emblem Engage, Bayonetta 3 and of course Splatoon 3 with the latest splatfest this weekend, Go team White Chocolate!

I'm trying to start and finish one game per month, this month I picked Gunborg, which is a shorter game but I have a busy month! I'm 9 levels in on easy (out of 15 I think) and it's great! Level design, graphics and music are all fantastic! The controls take a bit to get used to though.

Not Metroid Prime. The physical release seems so far away.😔 I have several other games to finish any way. I’ll be playing Rune Factory 4 Special, and hopefully getting to Sparks of Hope, Mario Maker 2, Origami King, and Lego Skywalker Saga soon. Then I’ll play Metroid Prime.😅

Live A Live still, because it's awesome, Tales of Vesperia, because I supposedly haven't got to the good bits, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate, because multiplayer.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS.

Started the game over again (something you can only do in the digital version - and maybe in some of the later physical reprints - not totally sure about that).

This time I'm using Jill with her own weapons load out (and not cheaping out and using Rebecca's overpowered load out).

My goal is to achieve the highest rank (SS) on all mission with Jill with said load out. I've just unlocked the EX missions yesterday and they are HARD (even the level 5 missions of the normal missions are tough).

I play solo, but use the C control configuration, as you can move and shoot in that one, using the face buttons (A, B, X and Y) as a substitute for the missing right stick for camera control.

It takes a while to get under your skin, but the game is so much more doable compared to the one stick default control configuration.

Game's not that expensive on eShop (10 €, I think) and you can erase your save to start all over (it's a game about unlocking skills and leveling them up, so it's nice you can wipe them out in the digital version).

Get it before the 3DS eShop closes down! It's a great game!

After the seeing the new Zelda trailer, I've started playing Breath of the Wild again

Helping team white chocolate lose the splatfest, some catlateral damage for some silly fun, and trying to git gud at rhythm sprout and failing miserably. After that it's the usual Lego Harry Potter collection with my other half tonight since we don't get Hogwarts legacy on Switch >.< and some alcoholic beverages and curry tonight for a treat since it's been a rough week.

I'll be flying to benidorm later and I'll be getting in a solid couple of hours worth of mario and luigis superstar saga. I had forgotten just how great that little gba really was

I’ve just got to the final chapter in Live A Live.

But I’m out tonight to see a band called Mogwai so it’ll be Sunday before I start on that.

I also tried GB Tetris on the telly, for fun.

In other unrelated media I’m also about three quarters of my way through the manga Goodnight Punpun, not an easy read but very special.

Super Mario Kart Super Circuit, god damn I forgot how much I love this game! I can't believe so many people prefer 64 over it.

Started playing Luigi's Mansion 3. Charming!

I just got Splatoon 3 for my birthday, so I may crack into the single player first this weekend. I also just picked up Lil' Gator Game, so I may also crack into that for some Short Hike vibes. I need a relaxing game after pulling my hair out with Neon White over the last week. Reviews apparently usually skimp over the fact that this game gets brutally hard in it's second half, leading me to believe many of them never got that far. It's a completely different beast and loses that smooth momentum and addictive nature of it's first half. The developers just got way too carried away. It's still good, and I may finish it eventually, but my nerves are shot and i need to play something else right now.

@BonsaiMoth basically this too... no time for prime the next couple of weeks ....

Fire Emblem Engage. As a big fan of the older games (on the GBA) this just really feels great. I loved 3H (finished my fifth and final route just before starting Engage) but this surpasses it in just about every way for me.

I'm playing Splatoon 3 for the splatfest and Monster Hunter Rise to increase my anomaly rank, as I patiently wait for the Prime remaster to release physically. Well, somewhat patiently.

@Rockboy247 it was my first too! One of the actual times my older brother wanted something I had instead of the other way around. I was too young for the first super mario land when it first came out.

I think I'll finally finish pokemon violet this weekend, then start on my pokedex challenge for pokemon platinum! I just finished filling the Gen 3 pokedex last week (completely legit, except for the 2 pokemon that were japanese events only), so now I've completed Gen 1-3

Well, I finished Sonic Frontiers yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed that, so I think I'll give Nier:Automata a go.

I'm a sucker for sprawling RPGs and being a recently converted fan of Xenoblade, I'm told this is in the same vein. Plus, it looks gorgeous.

Sonic Frontiers was awesome though. I had my doubts but even before all the trailers and gameplay footage I was cautiously optimistic and thankfully, Sonic Team and Sega did not disappoint.

It's challenging where it should be (especially the towers on Rhea and the first two titans) but by the end, you really feel you have a better handle on the various robots, grind rails, and puzzles, along with a pretty interesting story filled with great bonding moments among Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and the newest and most curious addition, Sage.

Sonic in open zone works and I would love to see this direction explored further in upcoming entries.

Played and beat Gargoyle’s Quest, Mario Kart Super Circuit and Wario Wario Inc. Microgame$! the past week.

Currently still squeezing everything possible out of the Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Demo. Already out 14 hours into it.

Also still playing Hatsune Miku Project Diva F on vita and Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone on ps5.

Probably gonna play The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap next.

I’d be all about playing Metroid prime but I’ll wait for it physically. My daughter has been playing smash bros with me and wants me to be her baby pichu partner each time. I’m considering getting hogwarts legacy as well.

I went out to the middle of the woods yesterday, brought my Switch, and played Breath of the Wild in the wild. Very satisfying

I finally got the COVID, so I have been down the last few days. Was really hard not picking up METROID PRIME: REMASTERED digitally to play, but I did pre-order my physical copy. So it looks like a little DIABLO 3 and some OoT on NSO will do me. Also, I'm the one who put HOGWARTS LEGACY on there. Not for Switch, obviously, but my wife got her copy on Tuesday for PS5 and I will probably mess around a little more with that.

Splatoon 3 Splatfest and the new Kirby demo ahead of it's release. Also, just pre-ordered the Metroid Remaster physical copy.

Agreed. GB Tetris is wonderful. I finally decided on physical for PRIME since this seems to be a pretty substantial remaster.

Minish Cap on NSO. I have the original cart but I'm always up for a replay. Also digging into Hogwarts Legacy and it's everything I ever wanted in a game based on this world, sure took long enough though.

Nintendo Switch:
UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r] – Completed... I forgot the titles of episodes... One Linne's episode and Nanase's episode in Chronicle Mode. Completed Arcade Mode playing as Phonon and Nanase.
Sally Face – playing 2nd episode. Got at least one in-game achievement.
Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium:
Vampire: The Night Warriors – completed the game playing as Bishamon. He's interesting and nice character to use to.
That's all what I've played on this week. My gaming plans for the next week are: to complete Chronicle Mode and Arcade Mode in UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r], to complete Vampire: The Night Warriors playing as Anakaris, at least, and to finish 2nd episode in Sally Face. This weekend I was planning on playing Hogwarts Legacy. I’ve been going through it since Monday morning and it’s been fun. It hasn’t grabbed my attention fully yet; I think it has to do with being overwhelmed on how big Hogwarts castle really is. And then the Nintendo Direct happened.

I’m now currently playing Metroid Prime Remastered. I’ve never played this beloved trilogy when it released on the GameCube and subsequently the Wii, but I do enjoy this franchise. I’ve gotta say — this game is fantastic.

Tonally, the game is superb, and the atmosphere is breathtaking. It has a genuine sci-Fi feeling. A lot of FPS’s have trouble making you feel like you’re in a different world altogether. Halo did it remarkably well, and Prime has achieved it in spades. You feel like an alien in a beautifully crafted but mysterious world itself, yet slowly empowered by collecting upgrades.

The other game I’m going to be playing is The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. This is the one LoZ game I never got to play as a kid, so I can’t have to have a fresh experience. I’ve been told it’s one of the best Zelda games overall, and that has me excited because I thoroughly enjoy the top-down view more than the 3D-model games.

I really can’t wait to see how this journey pans out for both of these games. I was needing a (new for me) Nintendo-esque pick-me-up game after being very disappointed with Fire Emblem Engage. And there is always something special about a really well crafted Nintendo game that Sony and Xbox can’t quite capture. I’ll be spending lots of time with this and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap this weekend.

It feels like I’m going to wrap up FFVII probably later today, so maybe I’ll work my way through Tunic next before switching to a longer RPG. Would love to dive into Metroid Prime right away, but I want to knock out some of these longer games on the backlog before TotK comes out.

This weekend I played post-Direct preorders as I stopped by the local shop to reserve Metroid Prime, Kirby, Zelda TotK, and even R-Type Tactics which is just TBD but I was happy to see listed. Backlog? What Backlog??

With the kiddos today we might play some more 3-player Spelunky mainly because they like to harass me. Or I might finally start FE Engage because I’m sure it will generate some fun offended Karen comments about the characters from my older daughter, like “Whoa! M’am? M’am? I’m going to have to ask you to put on some pants M’am.” 😁

Also, Minish Cap because I’ve never owned a GBA and have wanted to try this game since @KateGray and others here have lavished praise on it.

Playing more of the stupendous Super Mario Odyssey this weekend. My first play-through, if you can believe that!

If you can believe it, Kirby Star Allies. lol Someone was selling it online for $15 and I figured “why not ?” for that price. It’s definitely no Forgotten Land but fun enough and as expected for a 2D Kirby.

I'll be flipping between Metroid Prime and FE Engage. Two huge drops on the same day with the Direct! I've only played the Camilla DLC mission so far so have the other two left to go. I think I've got around 6 chapters left of the main story. I normally like to rush through games but really enjoying taking my time with this one.

As for Metroid Prime, this is my first time playing it. I really love how they translated the 2D formula into 3D. I was always a bit sceptical about it, even though I knew people love the game, and I'm so glad to be wrong. It also looks amazing. They've done a great job with this remaster (even remake?).

Still playing Tactics Ogre...

I got to wait to play Metroid Prime Remastered, but I did buy it for a friend whose only experience with the series was... Other M... As you might have guessed, he's having a much better time with Metroid Prime Remastered.
Until the physical copies start rolling out in stores, I'll be prime-arily playing Splatoon 3.

@Anti-Matter only played Scarlet for around 2 hours over the Christmas period and haven't played it since..

@ATHFjman18 I brought Star Allies for a fairly decent price ages ago now - was an enjoyable experience and charming enough, can't really critique it too much..

Wanted to play the splatfest every free minute BUT I’m on vacation and the Wi-Fi in our flat isn’t even strong enough to get a connection to the switch
Luckily I downloaded all the demos from the direct before hitting the road so there’s that and after that there’s still the backlog. So maybe after all I finish Axiom Verge.

I just finished Hi Fi Rush last night. So I'm mostly playing fire emblem engage, might get back to chained echoes, some arkham knight, and Gameboy games on NSO

Adventure. Sneaking princes. A nagging tattler of a friend. An island nation that's allegedly the only piece of land in the world. Ancient ruins. Fragments. Slimes. And in the middle of it all? A 16-year-old lad, with ambitions only as high as becoming a humble fisherman like their legendary father, thrust into a quest that'll span time and space.

Yep. I've started playing the intriguing, massive, slow to start, yet enjoyable (so far) Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past on 3DS. I fully expect this game to swallow 90-100 hours of my life for the next while. Just finished fixing Ballymolloy in the past and returned to the present.

...Oh, and I'm occasionally still playing some Switch game that's part of a collection. Features some plumber guy who was promised a cake in some high-falutin' castle. Seems like a lie. No cake. No princess. Just stars, an impressive art gallery, and a janky camera. Duper Murio 53? Fwooper Wamio 75?....

HOGWARTS LEGACY!

Slowly working my way through this magical masterpiece and I can honestly say I'm absolutely blown away. Sure, it has some flaws and rough edges, but I couldn't care less! They DID IT! It's literally a dream come true for me. Bravo, Warner Bros., and most of all, bravo, Avalanche! You went from a Cars 3 tie- in to this?! You've officially joined the prestige club of AAA developers in my eyes. Absolutely phenomenal work ...and so many nostalgic references to the old Zelda- inspired licensed games too, which I love! Even Flipendo made it in lol

Speaking of, the Room of Requirement was shockingly in- depth. They didn't have to do any of it, but they crammed a full- on base builder in there with options to place furniture, tools, change colours and looks, the whole ordeal. It's insane and I absolutely love it. Honestly overwhelming how much content is in here ...This room alone made me completely forget about the quest list as I customized, brewed and planted away my entire Friday evening.

Seriously, though, the attention to detail is absolutely insane so far. Can't even remember the last time I've seen so much love poured into a single game before.

Also, Ravenclaw FTW!

Minecraft, Smash Bros and Goldeneye with the kids. I'll wait for the physical release of Prime Remastered.

Lots of old stuff! My birthday today so went to the National Videogame Museum with the kids (I live in Sheffield) - great fun. Also a bit of Splatfest and gameboy games on the Switch, and might play a bit of Octopath Traveller if I get chance

I will be replaying Breath again to refresh before TOTK drops. I purchased a Lebow portable gaming monitor for when I’m traveling and I can’t recommend this thing enough. 15.6” monitor that has a cover that doubles as a stand. It’s 1080p so it’s perfect for the switch. You can connect and charge the switch while playing on the TV screen without the dock!

47 hours into Persona 5 Royal now (lol I can't believe how long this game is). I left off on the fourth palace so I'll probably do that!

Planning on playing the demo for Return to Dream Land Deluxe. I’m also going to play Splatoon 3 with some Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

I caved and bought Metroid Prime Remastered digitally. I couldn't wait for the 22nd. Oh I'm still buying it physically as well.

Risk of Rain 2. Got it on PC right before the Direct and will have to wait a while to buy Metroid Prime Remastered now.

Been playing NSO Gameboy and GBA this weekend, while ten hours in Persona 3, but I am a bit bad as I am 125 hrs in Persona 5 Royal and need to beat the final dungeon still. Oh well maybe his week I will do it. As for visual novels, going to final go back to Chaos;Head Noah. That’s what I am gaming have a good weekend.

Been playing the Theaterhythm demo on the Switch with some Melody of Memory on the side. I still can’t believe the amount of omissions MoM has.

I’ve been hankering to replay Minish Cap on NSO. I’ve played it when I was pretty young with a DS with an unresponsive R trigger. So it’ll be nice to actually play it properly.

Jetpack Joyride (Windows Phone) - Starting another excellent time wasting game!

Rayman Jungle Run (Windows Phone) - Only need to complete a few more levels.

Tetris (Windows Phone) - Slowly getting used to the touch screen.

Splatoon 3 (team white chocolate!) and Fire Emblem Engage will be my big games this weekend, but I'm sure I'll spend some more time messing around with the new Game Boy/GBA games on NSO as well. With the Sea of Stars demo and Steam Next Fest on top of those, I'm not sure that I'll have time for much else!

Ooblets, animal crossing new horizons, and Dogz Fashion on GBA. Not kidding. I’ve been on a GBA kick this winter and it’s ironic that after playing mine daily, they suddenly bring some GBA/GB games to NSO.

I finally got myself the Lego Ferrari Daytona supercar. Been building it all day.

And gaming wise? Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime Remastered and Hogwarts Legacy on PC.

Coming back from holiday so will get down to some Bayonetta 3 this evening when I arrive back. I want to complete it before hitting Bayonetta Origins.

The elusive 5th door in The House in Fata Morgana

Im tackling my backlog. I wanna have Dragon Quest 11 crossed in my list. It never deserved to be abandoned by me in the first place - such a great game. The only game that could stand in my way of playing it is Metroid which has a physical release later (I hope I can buy it in local store when it comes out, but I cant find it anywhere and I am a little nervous).

I haven't played Metroid Prime before, and planning to do so once the physical copy is out.

So one of the biggest games of the year just released and not one person on staff is playing it, huh? Hogwarts Legacy just released and no one is playing? Why has there been no news story that says that the game has broken records and when it will be releasing on the switch? I'm dying to play this game and have already preordered but I think it comes out in July? You don't have to mention anything about controversy, etc. Straight facts...

Also it was so hard for me not to buy the Metroid Prime Remaster but I'd rather have it on physical. So I must sadly wait till the end of the month?

@Timbledon As always for this type of game this was the first thing I looked for. At first I couldn't find it, but it is there in the settings. In the controller options you need to scroll the right hand list down and you'll find the option. I was relieved!

Was planning on playing Hogwarts, but then Metroid Prime happened

After having finished the first game I ever played again (Link's Awakening, although mine wasn't DX but I played every version of it several times), and the game that blewmy mind as a kid with no tv and only Game Boys (Alone in the Dark) and having started playing Superstar Saga and Minish Cap again, because Golden Sun is for when I have both available to play back to back, I now just beat the final boss in Splatter Zombiecalypse Now. I almost bought that game at almost full price because it's hard to say no to a good looking 2d twin stick zombie shooter with secrets, weapon upgrades, tons of destruction and chaos... It's STUPID to say no to it when it's only 23 dollar cents (why I have an eshop account for several regions) and you have even the slightest interest in the genre and have money to spend on a Switch in the first place. That Qubic / Untold Tales sale is insane, if you're in the US and / or have access to it (it requires you to own one of several Qubic games already, which are on sale for 49 cents if you own their free game "Coloring Book", 1,99 USD otherwise). I already had Coloring Book on my EU account so I did have to buy a 1,99 game first, but even then got several games from the sale before I reached the EU sale price of Splatter. Weird stuff, but many good games for some change or even gold coins on the eshop.

Pokemon Scarlet for me! The limited-time Greninja 7 star Tera Raid has completely consumed me, and I almost wasn't prepared for it in time! Now that I'm finally in solid post-game territory I think it will become easier for me to catch and train more builds for emergent tera raids moving forward.

Next up on my agenda is to begin catching the legendary Pokemon, and the rest of the Paradox Pokemon. Then to train up some of the other Pokemon I've always wanted to add to my roster.

But I'll probably jump back into MHSunbreak before that's all done! Gotta have some fun with the Velkhana Palamute layered armor, and work my way up to MR200 for Risen Valstrax.

Late again! Splatoon 3 (go team white chocolate!) and got in my first hour of Nier: Automata.
