Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Soundtrack Out July, Will Include Volume 4 DLC Music

shinynewbicycles

August/September feels like a good time for the DLC to come out. Like others have said, I'd like them to leave Tears of the Kingdom some time to breathe before they launch it. Didn't they originally say before the end of the year for the final DLC wave? They're delivering early, just like they delivered the main game early! I still think that was pulled forward from the final polishing stage to plug the gap Tears of the Kingdom left in the schedule by being delayed.

Either way, exciting stuff!

@Pisiform Thanks for this. I saw a review online that said the performance on Switch wasn't the best but watched some footage on YouTube of the first 30 mins and it looked fine to me. A real shame it gets worse as it goes on, as I'm a big fan of the vibe here... Sadly with small games like these, it can be difficult to find out about patches etc, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

Re: Review: Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion (Switch)

I would have appreciated it if the reviewer had commented on the soundtrack, the graphics, the frame rate/performance on the switch in both docked and handheld mode. I'm not saying it's a bad review, it just seems to be lacking many essential points that would help myself and others inform their purchase.

Re: Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap Has Gone Gold

It's a shame it's £2 more on the switch than xbox and playstation in the UK only. The European and US prices are the same. Still, day 1 purchase for me. I own this wonderful game on Master System and twice on Game Gear and I've been eagerly tracking the development of this remake. Seems like a whole lot of love has gone into its creation.

Translation: "We didn't have a bloody clue what we were doing developing for the Wiiu (which we made a promise that we could do) and now we don't have a bloody clue what we are doing good developing for the switch. However, please rest assured were working as fast as possible to rush out a barely functioning port, sub 30FPS, with no platform specific features to shut up our fans and investors."

Yeah. Still salty about this one.

Re: Review: Pokémon GO (Mobile)

I think people have got to frame this review (and the associated score) within the fact that this is a free-to-play application. There are so many people getting up in arms over the amount of 'content' in a free game. Judge it within the context it exists and nothing more.

Re: Review: Whirlo (SNES)

http://www.retrocollect.com/videogamedatabase/releases/500/whirlo Retro Collect only lists Spanish and Italian releases.

Be very wary of PAL copies of this game on eBay. I've seen many repros of this listed as the real deal. When I got mine, I opened it up and checked the board against photos of a genuine copy. To be fair, it's usually pretty easy to identify reproduction carts, as they use re-writeable EPROM instead of normal ROM chips.

Re: Review: Whirlo (SNES)

I have a PAL (cart only) copy of this. Think I got to the second to last level. Been meaning to go back and finish it. Very very tricky to master the controls but satisfying when you do. Definitely a gem and I think this review sums it up well!

Re: Review: Olympia Rising (Wii U eShop)

shinynewbicycles

@Zoda_Fett for the price, I think that length of gameplay I fine, personally. It's a short, snappy game that I've already played twice and will no doubt play again in the future. But it's up to you whether or not you think you'll get enough value out of that, personally. It's £4.49. A pint usually costs me £4 and I get less than 3 hours enjoyment out of it!

Re: Review: Olympia Rising (Wii U eShop)

@ricklongo Pretty much!! It's becoming a worrying trend. This game does share some similarities with Chronicles of Teddy - it currently has a huge glitch - another worrying trend in WiiU indie games. The glitch makes it (nearly) impossible to beat the 4th boss. I say 'nearly' as I found a way to glitch it out and beat it - check out Miiverse posts (it's a small Miiverse community). The dev has issued a patch, but we know how that story goes from our wait for the CoT patch! Regardless, I loved this little 3 hour game enough to play it twice. The gameplay just really clicked with me.

Does make me wonder if the reviewer played this through to the end, though, with such a major glitch.

Re: Review: Olympia Rising (Wii U eShop)

The protagonist's name is Iola with an 'i' as opposed to Lola. And I really disagree with the comment about the coins being pointless. This review does not mention the combo system, which increases the amount of coins you gain by bouncing from one enemy to another. An enemy kill resets your jump so you can perform another jump and double jump. The idea is to chain together large combos, which rewards you with a bunch of coins - for progression to the next level. You can also use your magic power to fly about in the air, which also helps to chain combos together. The combo system and the ability to fly make this game feel very unique and it encourages you to chain together huge flashy combos, rather than play it safe.

I don't usually like to challenge someone's opinion, but I'm glad that I'm not the only one who found this review to be a bit 'off'.

This seems to be the bottom line from people who've played it: Cracking metroidvania game, terrible bugs. If it looks like your type of game, it probably is. Just keep an eye on the Miiverse and the forums for an update before you make a purchase.

Re: Review: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus (Wii U eShop)

shinynewbicycles

@Stu13 If you enjoyed Elliot Quest, you'll probably enjoy this too. Wait for the patch though, not a sale (or both, if you prefer).

I think the review really downplays how unplayable this game is without a patch. I'd prefer if it was honest and they edit the review accordingly when the patch lands. Unless, of course, the reviewer had a much much smoother experience than I did with this game.

Re: Review: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus (Wii U eShop)

I was worried about the combat in this game, based on a couple of comments I've seen. However, after 15 mins or so, it started to feel natural to me. The combat is an area of the game which very much takes influence from Zelda 2 (an influence the developer makes all too clear throughout the game.) However, I feel that the combat is overall less frustrating that than of Zelda 2.

What DID take some getting used to for me was the run mechanic. Double tapping in one direct to run feels fine in things like Kirby, but it doesn't feel quite as smooth here. But you can press one of the shoulder buttons to run anyway, so that's not too much of an issue.

Re: Olympia Rising

@ogo79 Some people have received the patch for this one already, though. Hoping mine downloads today while I'm at work.

I do really recommend this game. I've finished it twice now (it's about 3 hours long). As soon as the patch lands, it's a really solid eShop recommendation.

Re: Olympia Rising

shinynewbicycles

@ogo79 Be careful... I encountered a really frustrating glitch on the 4th boss!! I managed to get through though and actually really enjoyed it. The frame rate is a bit iffy, too.

If you want more details on the glitch, see my posts (nickname: Barkey) in the EU Miiverse.

Re: Review: Toy Defence (3DS eShop)

shinynewbicycles

@Moon Completely agree. There are some games with TD elements like Demon King Box and Dillon's Rolling Western, but I'd be interested to see where this oversaturation of Tower Defense games is!

@leo13 Try Ninjatown or Lock's Quest for the original DS, if you haven't already. Both hidden gems. The former seems to get more recognition these days while the latter remains relatively undiscovered which is a real shame.

Re: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus

shinynewbicycles

Just as a bit of a warning until NLife's review appears, this game as quite a serious bug where the sound drops out and you have to quit and restart the game. A patch has been issued, pending approval from Nintendo. In my experience of waiting for the Elliot Quest patch, that could take a couple of weeks. It's a shame because other than that, this is a gorgeous, engrossing game. Bring on the patch!
