I like the NA one because at the time it was mind blowing for me seeing Samus in a 3D render, it captures that feeling of the series jumping into the future.

The Japanese one however is better for giving Samus a more action based pose, it fits with the series transition into 3D like its Samus jumping out at you.

My biggest problem with the game was how short it was and it felt like it had less level variety than 64. From a technical standpoint it played and looked amazing, even today it looks great for a 20 year old game. It was obviously rushed like Wind Waker because the N64 was a flop and Nintendo wanted the Gamecube out the door ASAP.

@NintendoWife I was one of the rare scrooges who hated it as a kid when it was new, my parents loved it though. Mario Kart 64 made me fall in love with the series instead, so many good memories with that game.

@OrtadragoonX I think the problem at the time was that Nintendo didn't want to pay Sony any royalties for having to use their DVDs, so they opted for the mini DVDs to get around that.

Its a shame though, the DVDs would have helped a lot since a common problem for a lot of the games at the time such as Luigi's Mansion, Wind Waker, and Mario Sunshine was that despite looking better, they were short in length most likely because of the limited space.

@BulkSlash I have no problem with sequels, just as long as they refine the formula more and add something new if needed. Kirby Star Allies is an example of a bad sequel(not a bad game, just more of the same) and Kirby And The Forgotten Land is an example of what I want out of a sequel by being both new and familiar.

SNES easily, this was a time when it felt like Nintendo owned the industry with constant hit after hit every year of both first and third party titles.

The N64, GameCube, and Wii U all had great games, but these were no doubt low points in Nintendo's career. The handhelds always did well by maintaining a strong library of first parties with great third party support. The Wii is a bit different since despite it selling well based on it being a brief fad, the support and hype for it died quick from 2008-12.

The Switch is awesome and finally feels like Nintendo reclaiming the throne, I just hope they dont ruin this momentum with the next system.

Re: Playtonic Celebrates 5 Years of Yooka-Laylee, Teases Some "Surprises"

@victordamazio the problem is it feels more like a mediocre game of that era rather than a good one.

I recently played through the Spyro games as well as Donkey Kong 64 for the first time and had way more fun with them despite them being older. I feel like its kind of a copout to excuse Yooka Laylee's poor level design by saying its meant to be that way.

My biggest problem with Yooka Laylee was how big they made the levels, it takes like ten minutes getting from one side to the other and even longer when you`re combing over the level to find whatever you missed. The feathers also are placed pretty randomly and there are a lot of dead ends.

However, I do look forward to a sequel where they hopefully addressed this problem and designed the levels to be as tight as the Banjo games.

@Patendo I feel you, I played Yooka Laylee until the Casino level and got bored, tried to get back into it twice but I just couldnt be bothered. Same thing goes with the sequel, they just feel so much lesser than the games they`re inspired by.

Banjo and Donkey Kong 64 have way better designed levels that flow much better with how you explore and collect things, in Yooka Laylee I just felt like a rat in an empty field looking for crumbs.

Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right

retroman64

I mean I can understand preferring one over the other, but why trash the other? This is just juvenile.

I think OOT has stronger story content and a better looking overworld, and MM has a really creative story for Zelda standards as well as a good amount of side content via masks/heart pieces. OOT wins out for the story content for me personally, I think MM would win if it had three or four more dungeons.

Personally I think it would have been better if Nintendo scrapped MM on the N64 and fully developed it as the Gamecube's first Zelda instead.
