Collavier Corporation, a Japanese developer specializing in digital-only titles for Nintendo portables, is bringing its comic creation tool Comic Workshop to the 3DS eShop on 17th July in North America. The application will cost $7.99 and offer many helpful features for budding Bruce Timms — including, as the game's page handily points out, an option for lefty comic craftsmen.
Much more detail can be found at the official website, where you can get a particularly detailed look at the user interface if this sort of thing seems up your artistic alley.
No word yet on a European release, but stay tuned for more information. Are you interested in trying out Collavier's ambitious little comic creator? Tell us what you think in the comments.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip.

Be nice if this has an app that lets you see what other people make. I coudln't make a comic to save my life, but would like to see what others can do.
Oh this is good I was in a comic book club for last months of HS but couldn't bring out my ideas but now I can work on this during Summer. But can you print them online or something?
I have this on my JP 3DS.
Give it a go, it's quite fun!
WTF happened to Flipnote 3D. : ((((((((((((((((((
It seems Europe is getting ignored again, yay...
too bad i cant draw...
Hope this comes to Europe. I'll buy it.
Bit off-topic, but I'm meeting Stan Lee in less than a month
@XCWarrior In theory, Miiverse will let you do just that so you won't even have to buy Comic Workshop.
@XCWarrior and others who might be interested, there's a gallery where people can post their comics.
No Miiverse integration though (or at least no posting screenshots).
I do like the idea of drawing comics on the go, but the maximum image size (896 x 896) would make it suitable for storyboards and roughs, not really full fledged pages. I might still get it if it's released in Europe.
Looks like it could be pretty cool.
Was so excited until it said not for europe, but only for america.
Ugh....
Would've been good to get this on the Wii U as well since it has a bigger drawing surface.
Oh I'm interested. I'll need a review first.
I just bought Colors! 3D, so I'll pass on this. I couldn't draw a good comic anyways, but if I wanted to try I could just draw seperate panels in Colors! and stitch them together in GIMP or something.
I wish this was on Wii U, since I have a hard time drawing on the 3DS's tiny screen!
Sounds great! Maybe I'll make an anime? Nah, I don't have enough creativity. :-/
@Nik-Davies Wow, you're so lucky!
I've been drawing comics for over ten years, so I'm slightly intrigued as to what tools would help you make comic pages, that a drawing program wouldn't.
Speech bubbles automatically fitted to the text in them? Panels functioning as masks you can keep changing the shape on? In any case, I'll have to wait untill it shows up in Europe.
So they release this stupid application on 3DS but they don't release Flipnote 3D for 3DS..???? !!!!
This certainly looks interesting. I might check it out depending on the price.
Aside from the max pixel size being 896, this looks like it'll be leagues better than Colors! 3D, at least for what I want to do. All of the controls here are comparable to art programs you can use on a PC, only it's in portable format... something I've wanted since, well, forever! Counting the days down, now...
How fun is that! 'Totes gonna' by this.
I've been wanting a way to make short comics that typically pop into my head at times without needing a scanner and photo editing program. Checked out their site and it does allow you to upload to PC. I prefer Manga style too so this seems like a perfect fit. Will definitely keep some money aside in my account to pick this up.
Colors!3D isn't a bad program but it's sadly been wasted on me, the type of pieces I would want to make with that software are simply better suited to pen and paper instead of the limiting 3DS screen.
@PrincessSugoi
Same here. I like Colors! 3D for what it can do, but there are a whole lot of features that could be added, or improved on, but simply won't be possible due to choice. Comic Workshop looks like it will finally fill that void, though. Day one purchase for me.
I'm interested in reading other people's comics.
@kereke12 Wait, They they didn't release a stupid animation 3DS Application, yet they Release Comic Workshop?!?!?!
I'm glad this software is coming to the U.S.A, I've been to the Japanese Mii-Verse Community for a while.
I'm already penciling a comic about a fleet of space penguins, so I may pick this up once reviews hit.
This is perfect for me cuz I love manga and this is Japanese-specific approach to comics which is all I could ask for. I hope it works nicely.
This was announced way back on Siliconera that it was getting a US Release, I guess it's out now... I need an eShop card...
I can't wait for this to come out. I've wanted to be a cartoonist since I was ten! Hopefully this will help me learn the skills I don't know and polish the ones I do know. I haven't been this excited since they announced Smash Bros. for 3ds at E3 2013! This app is gonna be tighter than Tite Kubo!
A comic maker? On 3DS? Nice!! I do a lot of drawing, so I'm definatly interested!
Being a pro comic book artist and writer, and the only one doing an entire comic series on Miiverse, MAYBE LOVE?, this is a must for me, OSENATOR, on MIIVERSE.
