Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

libersolis

Physical media is sadly dying. I remember the excitement of calling stores to see if they had a game during the SNES era as that was the only way to play it and release dates weren’t really a thing.

Those days are over and unless there is some unexpected reversal in how games a published, everyone who is physical only should probably say goodbye to gaming as a hobby (new games) in the next 10 years.

Here is the email from Gungho about the Switch 2 version graphics options .

I think right now frame rate is uncapped and resolution might be dynamic when docked (I’m speculating)

As to why the reviewer didn’t mention these modes missing?

No idea, maybe they didn’t read the EShop description and just focused on reviewing the game.

Also I think a lot of times people perceive performance to be better than it is unless they have something to compare it to. Fortunately with the demos I could do a direct comparison.

I think once the patch comes out things will be fine. As it stands I 100 percent recommend the game, just holding off on the upgrade until we see how the next patch fixes things up.

The best way to run this game currently is to play the switch 1 version on switch 2. You get a pretty close to locked 60FPS docked, and stable 30 FPS in handheld.

The Switch 2 version is somewhat of a mess performance wise. On docked, the game stutters constantly, open world, indoors, battles, etc. Some places worse than others but compared to the ps5 version it’s pretty bad. Handheld Switch 2 is slightly better i think but still not perfect,

Worse is that the advertised graphics modes listed on the Eshop of 4k 30 and 1080p 60 are not present.

I called Nintendo and was able to get the Switch 2 upgrade refunded as it’s the only way to downgrade if you are all digital.

There is a thread on Reddit where a user posted a response from gung-ho saying the graphics modes are coming in a patch and they are aware of the switch 2 performance issues, but due to the difficulty downgrading, I recommend any all digital folks to hold off on the Switch 2 upgrade until it’s confirmed these issues have been fixed.

Re: Square Enix Rules Out Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

Yeah, felt kinda burned by Suikoden on this one, because I think they announced the Switch 2 version shortly after the Switch 1 version was released. I understand they had to hold off on the announcement to wait for the official system reveal, but the timing was so close that it would have been nice to offer an upgrade path for fans who bought the Switch 1 version when it came out.

At least SE is making people aware of this ahead of time (not that I like it)

Also I bought one game key card. I didn’t do my research and picked up Bravely Default from Best Buy at launch. It’s the worst of both worlds. Takes up internal / sd card space but I still annoyingly have to have the card on hand to play.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Doubles The Length Of The Original

Ok, honest question, just trying to understand the benefit of doing this, but can someone please explain to me the purpose of having a backlog of games that are never opened/played?

I’m assuming that there are times that someone can get close to the original value (or in rare cases more) of what they paid for the original game, but in cases where you can’t (which I assume are many) aren’t you just throwing money away?

Is it a compulsive shopping addiction, a form of hoarding or something else?

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario RPG?

libersolis

So I passed on this game the first time it came around on SNES and again on various virtual consoles and emulators.

Decided to pick this one up after the glowing reviews and I have been pleasantly surprised!

The game feels very polished playing both on handheld and docked (really beautiful on my 70inch) the story is perfect for a Mario game and the gameplay is very fun.

I actually prefer this style to that of Paper Mario and I think it would be great if they moved the Mario RPG series back into this style or at least created a new “Mario RPG” branch alongside the Paper Mario series. Beautiful music btw.

I’m playing on normal and gameplay feels a bit grindy at times but battles are easy to come by and fun if not a bit repetitive.

I’m about 7 hours in so far.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

libersolis

For me it’s a 9. I’m 43 and my first Mario game was Mario Bros at the arcade when I was like 4.

It does not give me that sense of awe and wonder that Super Mario World did when it came out, but it’s very very solid and I’ve greatly enjoyed it.

I wish you could ride Yoshi in single player and/or different colored Yoshi’s had different abilities.

I love the online element and get a lot of fun from helping people not die when they are ghosts.

My top 3 2d Mario’s are

Super Mario World
Super Mario 3
Super Mario Wonder

I agree it would be cool to see a new Judo and or K-1 game.

However i doubt a Judo game would sell well on its own. Not that it isn’t a fabulous sport and and amazingly useful and powerful martial art, it’s just not going to be as popular as wrestling or MMA on its own.

K-1 has its peak in the late 90s early 00’s. At its height it had Bob Sapp (a pro wrestler through and through) as one of the faces of the organization. In fact the popularity of Pride and K-1 in Japan during that time comes from how they blurred the lines with pro wrestling.

Wrestling despite its decline in popularity still does great ratings on television and has been part of American culture (the target for an AEW game) since the early 1900s. Wrestling was also one of the first phenomena on television period.

@Anti-Matter

Wrestling isn’t a sport. It’s a scripted drama/soap opera where men and women pretend to fight each other in their underwear.

It is an absurd display of fake fighting with bad acting, one dimensional characters and events that make no sense and would never happen in real life.

And that’s exactly what makes it so great!

Many wrestling fans get hooked as children when we aren’t aware of how fake it is, and then continue to love it well past the point where it makes any sense to.

K-1 is awesome, MMA is awesome, but rasslin’ is rasslin’!
