Last I tried playing I was dealing 16 dmg attack to a thief boss who had 5k hp. I see grinding in the future.

Great write up Thomas, this definitively is the kind of story that brings me here. Personally I think the consumer back lash comes from the design of the products as well. The new 3ds is a new design and the new 3dsxl is pretty much new internals in the last model. I believe this is also a battle of preference for the new design ascetic of the new 3ds that people clearly appreciate and want.

3ds was good in 2013 but the ball was dropped in favor of wii u support. Last week I bought a white ds to try out some gba and ds games I missed.

Dang whys he gotta keep the regular new 3ds in his pockets now.

An important note that may have been left out, with the improved specs the new 3ds should be able to push gba games off the virtual console.

Here's to the lack of an ethernet connection..the biggest flaw of the wii u in my opinion. Depending on 8 people to miraculously have great wifi probably is the reason chat was cut.

Went with the cartridge case The messenger bag looks cool but I have enough stuff to clutter my apartment already. Honestly was holding out in hopes of the luigis mansion figurine popping back but hey. Now to spend the rest of the 1600 on a paper mario. Which paper mario is good? any suggestions?

WOAH that is great news I loved the first game! Some reason the ascetic was very endearing for the system. Will definitely grab this later.

Put it this way, I already have an XL and want a portable smaller version for the subway commute. Pocketable the xl is not. Nintendo dropped the ball for many commuters.

Far too many Japanese no name characters in the new installment to garner my vote. I mean.. cmon where is big diapy (k rool) or a variety of other well known characters? Heck i'd even take Ravio over another animed out character.

This game was really frustrating for me. I wanted to enjoy it but the awkward large size of the character compared to the stages made it incredibly difficult platform. You can't see what is ahead so dash jumps send you flying into the abyss too many times. You are much taller than some enemies too making it very difficult to hit small boxes. The sword has no knockback so you dash into enemies and hit them but they hit you too. In my opinion the game was too hard to control.

Is Donkey Kong Tropical freeze REALLY a Glorious 2D platformer??

VC on Wii U = amazing classics and quality... VC on 3DS = just the worst stuff you never even wanted to know existed in the first place. Does Donkey Kong Land even exist in North America e shop?

Oh man i've been waiting forever for the GBA to be released on the 3DS. I figured it was a sure thing seeing as Wii U already gets SNES titles. So does this mean they will never add GBA titles to the 3DS? If so that is really sad.

@Mahe There certainly is a potential benefit to the Gamepad in the future, especially with one player games that utilize the second screen to alternative functions. Most of which we don't know much about yet true. However the Gamepad is the the keystone of the wii u design so I don't see it going anywhere.
My only real gripe is that A. Gamepad costs are too high and B. 4 player implementation is an absolute disaster when using 3 different controllers. The second they made the Gamepad they should have made sure you can buy 4 and not take out a second mortgage. Perhaps making a Gamepad Light that costs less would allow everybody to use the same controls.

I don't even think it needs a "killer app" it is already brilliant. From what I hear it just needs a better battery, and a more seamless way to go from tv to the controller.

Oh wow, I'm thinking of the mario galaxy stage being a full sphere with gravity. You get smashed you fly and orbit the thing like in angry birds space. If you have too much damage you fly out of orbit lol. Can't wait for that stage wow.

If the used wii U sales goes down a bit (below 200) it's gonna fly off the shelves. I guess they would be losing tons of cash at that point though. I'm honestly still confused however if you need 4 of those wii u controllers to play 4 player games. So if I wanted to play smash with 4 friends would we all have to use wii u controllers?

Idk what nintendo is doing keeping the SNES and GBA titles off of the 3DS! Saving potential sales for a rainy day I guess? Instead the 3DS gets Secret agent: Miami (not hotline miami). The 3DS weekly games are unfortunately weak.

A quick search shows that the Wii used goes for like 50$. Why would anyone ever buy this besides the slick design.
