Re: Video: Check Out This Side-By-Side Comparison Of Crash Bandicoot 4 On Switch And PS4 Pro

jancotianno

"I mean it's the same challenge as bringing it to any console, honestly"...
That's true because:

  • If they are developing this game for PS4 and PS4 PRO, it is expected to run at 60fps, 4K, high quality textures, no framerate drops AT ALL... and it must look appealing compared to other PS4 titles.
  • Porting this game to Switch is a challenge, but.... it needs to run at 30fps, 720p is acceptable, frame drops are acceptable, blurry textures will be forgiven...

In the end, games like this are pushing NS to its limits (and that's not the same with PS/XB)...
Anyway, Nintendo Switch is a success, and the first title for it was already pushing its limits...

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

jancotianno

ok ok my turn
Guile's stage should remove all US Army References. I'm also offended with Zangief's communist symbol in the ground. You know, Dhalsim's stage has a very religious look, I'm offended. What about Blanka? A monster in Amazon stage, you know, it's offensive to relate people from amazon as monsters...

(In few weeks I'll add my two cents about Fei-Long being bruce lee and some other topics in the next street fighter re-release)

Let's cancel Street Fighter 2! Let's play something neutral, like Mortal Kombat!!!

Re: Japanese Charts: Ring Fit Adventure Is Still Selling Well, But Nothing Can Stop Momotaro Dentetsu

jancotianno

@Nintendo_Thumb It is something very personal. I think among all of these games you've mentioned only Animal Crossing had an investment of triple A title (btw you've mentioned only Nintendo games). Momotarō may be a great game, but still, it is clearly a niche game (and I think I don't need to explain why).
My only concern and disappointment has nothing to do specifically because of this game, but how the market works. Check all Konami games on switch: Super Bomberman R, Contra Rogue Corps... and now Momotarō Dentetsu. After the huge success of this one, I'm pretty sure we won't see something big from Konami anymore (in the Nintendo context). Again, I have nothing against to have these games on switch, but I really would like to see the other big titles from Konami on it too.
Things can change like it did with Capcom: Now with almost 80 million consoles sold, Capcom started to invest in a new Monster Hunter Game for NS, but in the case of Konami, it seems their position for NS is well defined. Anyway, as I said, it's something personal, many people will say (as we can see in other discussions) things like "I don't need PES, Metal Gear Solid or whatever from Konami, just give me Bomberman, I can play PES on my PS5" and think everything is fine. It's personal.

Re: M2 Has Updated Six Sega Ages Titles For Nintendo Switch

jancotianno

Virtua Racing has (or at least had a major flaw): The 2-8 multiplayer mode doesn't work with a Pro Controller. You have to use a single joycon in this mode. I have 2 pairs of joy-cons and 2 pro controllers.
I can't play a 6-player race, as the Pro Controller is supported only in single player mode.

Re: Famous Footballers Think EA Could Be Illegally Profiting From Their Names And Likenesses In FIFA

jancotianno

tbh, I thought about that many times: FIFA is a major franchise from EA, and its profits are huge, and many players probably knew about it, but before asking for money, they were thinking "Wow, I'm in a videogame", "wow, Fifa is a success" without realizing how big someone is profiting with that.

But the raw income is like eight or nine digits. Of course someday someone would realize that "hey, you are getting money with micro transactions using my name!", "hey, I don't remember getting paid for this"...

And that's it. I mean, there's no law saying that "if you don't complain about using your name and image in a game for...5 years, it becomes public domain".

I think that NBA may have a similar issue that someday they'll complain (but maybe they have a better agreement for this image usage... NBA is american, one association to deal with... Fifa has teams from more than 20 countries...

Tennis games are already facing this problem: They can't say "oh, we did an agreement with ATP and now we can use any ATP player". They have to pay for ATP (if they wanna use their name), they have to pay for each grand slam, for each famous player they want to add...

Good old times of International Super Star Soccer and their fake names.

Re: Reminder: Ubisoft Forward Airs Today - An "E3-Style" Showcase Featuring News, Reveals And Much More

jancotianno

Nintendo Switch will have 3rd party titles the same way it did until today.

We'll have cases like The Witcher 3, The Outer Worlds (complicated ports), some digital-only releases like Hellblade, GRID... cash grab ports like Burnout...

Even with PS5/XBSX, companies will still release their games to PS4/XB1/PC... All the games considered a huge success will have their "lowest settings version" ported to Switch.

Gods and Monsters are a very good example of this: People claiming for this game because it looks like Breath of the Wild only!

(And complaining about switch exclusive Deadly Premonition 2 framerate, WWE 2k Battlegrounds style, Burnout price, TOW not good as TW3 port...)

Re: There Are Reportedly "No Plans" To Fix Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate

jancotianno

I have to say, the framerate is pretty solid.
Pretty solid at 15fps in open areas, 20fps in rooms.

And I think this is the new trend for Nintendo Switch.

So far, there was well-known strategy to port PS4/XB1 games on Switch:
Convert a 1080p/60fps game into a 720p/30fps with low res textures. It worked very well with The Witcher 3, Doom, MK11, not so well with The Outer Worlds...but now, the new strategy to port PS5 and XBSX is here:
Get that PS5 game, set the game to run at 640p/15fps and there you go, your port is ready for the market. This game is just anticipating this future strategy.

Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?

jancotianno

This isn't about EA, unfortunately.

EA.... Capcom... Konami... They have their reasons.

Konami wants to use the Switch for games that were supposed to be on 3DS.

Capcom and EA are similar: Switch as an experiment for cash grabs, with no risks.
And that's exactly why I think that after the success of Animal Crossing, a port of Sims would be a minimal risk... It's almost obvious... it has a PC version, perfect for a port with the lowest settings...
That's not a problem.
The problem is to read EA claiming "Oh FiFa 21 DiDn'T sEll wEll oN SwiTch BecAusE NinTenDO plAyers DOn'T bUy FiFa"

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of December 2019

jancotianno

Mario Kart Wii sold 37 million units.
If you sum Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe, we have 31 million units...

When we check the list with:
Mario Kart 8 (a Wii U game)
Super Smash Bros (C'mon, the Wii U version was almost the same game)
Zelda BOTW,
Splatoon (same as smash bros),
New Super Mario Bros U,

you can say that sometimes in a generation nintendo fails with its hardware, but never with their games.

Re: Talking Point: What Does The Nintendo Seal Of Quality Mean In 2019?

jancotianno

Guys, today we have internet (and youtube).

Wii shovelware was not a problem, didn't affect Wii Sales.

For years we were depending on magazine reviews to get tips, cheats and reviews. Yes, it was a little bit insane: "Wow I'll buy that magazine because it says it has a lot of passwords for mega man x!", "It explains how to play against Gouki in the new street fighter!!! (Akuma)".
Let's remember, we had Street Fighter 2. Then they released basically the same game with more speed options, few new moves, ability to play with bosses...and people got crazy about that, instant hit, huge sales... Different times.

So ok, in the 90's it would be good to have a nintendo/sega seal of quality, but today most of these shovelware are digital games (usually only the good ones that receive a physical release) so before buying you can check on youtube and decide by yourself if you'll get it or not.

Re: Looking For A Brand New Wii U? That'll Be $800 Please

jancotianno

That is a problem with the "automatic pricing" feature... but anyway, as I wrote about retrocarts, this is a market that sets high prices for old stuff.
So... soon, in 2020 they will be trying the sell overpriced WiiU units with the label "very rare, excellent state".

Re: Talking Point: It's A Pretty Sweet Time For 'New' Retro Games, But What Does It Mean For Collectors?

jancotianno

Nice topic. I'm a retro collector.
There isn't any problem collecting old stuff and searching for original software, BUT since this is not like a coin with government regulation, sometimes the price is sick.
"Oh, look at this Earthbound, it is 100% original, it is worth 900 dollars".
It is possible to make EXACTLY the same product, asking for the best quality, to look exactly like a new cart for 30 dollars. Then you realize that some people request the seller to open the cart, to show minimal details as if it was gold. In fact, it is fool's gold.

There are cases you can see the value: Megaman X3 uses the C4 Chip that is not found in many other games (even on X2 it seems the ci is different). So, since it is hard to make a pirate cart, ok then, the original cart has its value.

It is nice to have the feeling of playing in the original hardware like we did in the past. This is nostalgia.
So if you turn on your old hardware, playing with a new retrocart or the original one, the experience will be the same.

But as I wrote before, this market is sick, and once a product becomes rare, the owners refuse to accept that it is overpriced without a good reason.
Recently it almost happened with Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii).
We saw reprinted copies, since the original ones were ridiculously expensive and then some people crazy, asking for the differences, small details in the cover (even considering the product was "original").

Re: Feature: The Final Wii U Games We'd Like To See On Switch In 2019

jancotianno

Nintendo would be heavily criticized re-releasing Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD as standalone titles. The graphics are outdated. Wind Waker looks fine, but it would be compared to Breath of the wild. It would be acceptable only as "VC games", like it was for Wii games on Wii U (15-20 dollars with discounts).

I'm a huge Xenoblade fan (really), last month I turned on my Wii U just to check the game again after almost 2 years and still looks excellent to me. But... Unfortunately I think Monolith would have more success investing their people in Xenoblade 3 than porting Xenoblade X... it is really a massive game and I would buy again on Switch.

Same with Mario 3D World... played that a lot, but the investiment would not make any sense after Mario Odyssey. And was a hit in Wii U.

DK Tropical Freeze didn't reach all its sales potential, so a re-release was very fine.
Same with Mario Maker... it's an online game... maybe not competitive like Splatoon or Mario Kart, but still an online game, with fresh content, "famous designers" and challenges. So that makes sense too.

Even StarFox... it flopped. It was a bomb and is not a massive game, so a re-release would be nice.

Paper Mario? Well... the Wii U version didn't make justice for the series...so... they can keep the ink and paper concept, but in a new game.

Re: UK Charts Reveal That Only 2% Of NBA 2K19's Launch Sales Were On Switch

jancotianno

Fifa 18 for NS was great. NBA 2K18 (after all patches) was great too. But the truth is: At least for now, we are still in 2018, and it feels that we can stick with with these versions until next year. That's it. I have both games and I'm planning to buy Fifa 19 and NBA 2k19, but not now. I think that at least most of the people will wait for the next NBA Season in one month.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

jancotianno

It's not a crazy conspiracy... just the reality for a few companies... like Capcom and Konami (but not Bethesda or even.......EA).
Skyrim is a "PS3" port. It's amazing to have that on the go. That's the same for Skyrim VR on PS4... it's a full price retail game.
But this Monster Hunter was released on March 18, 2017 in Japan. A 3DS port...and after more than one year all that Capcom was able to offer is a translation of the 3DS port... for 60 dollars... So yes, they are lazy.
