@Varkster "Reggie may have been the NOA president, but that doesn't give him unlimited power and influence over a company that is first and foremost dominant in Japan."
It's more than this though. Doesn't matter who is running the ship this side of the pond as long as Nintendo is going to continue their draconian antiquated ways of running their business with all decisions strong armed out of Japan.
"Really, think about it, is there anyone out at Sony or Microsoft that comes off as a gamer and part of the community as much as this man?"
@Mgene15 it doesn't help that Link's Awakening's art style is god awful.
And for me, after BOTW, I struggle to revisit any Zelda game anymore, and I used to love them all. BOTW literally changed the game for me. Playing past Zeldas anymore is like going back to listen to the radio in your living room after having been introduced to television.
@EvrgrnCmln "Launch titles need to be system sellers - install base is small, so the sales of those games will necessarily be compromised. As a result, launch titles (or first year titles) need to provoke people to buy consoles just to play them - this mitigates their loss in sales by promoting consoles sales instead."
Not only is this true, but every time this discussion comes up I am reminded just how much of a missed opportunity it was for Wii U to not launch with a game like Super Mario Maker.
Could have altered the entire course of that console. Well, that and a name change to Super Wii.
How can Nintendo be so bad at this, console generation after generation? Literally just mirror what Xbox Live is doing. All of it. The subscriptions will come flooding in.
@NEStalgia interesting. Having never been attracted to DS, I may skip 3 unless it one day becomes free on games with gold.
People always reference Zelda with Darksiders titles and I gotta say... maybe I just didn't get deep enough into either title but to me both titles just felt like hack n slashes.
@techdude "If only Nintendo could have another 2017-like year, where Breath of the Wild, followed by Mario Kart, then Odyssey, then Nintendo will be facing shortages of consoles, not cutting forecast..."
Yeah, there was no way that was going to be sustainable. Something that is very baffling to me is that, despite consolidating their in house dev teams, the gaps in 1st party content seem to still be an issue. They can only port over so many Wii U titles.
What this tells me is that Nintendo absolutely cannot fumble away the Switch success ala Wii. All eggs are in one basket now (90% of all revenue?!), unlike Wii days when DS was the true bread winner.
If I'm Nintendo I'm slightly concerned about the smartphone venture. Not really paying off and DeNA doesn't seem like a really solid partnership.
Something I don't think very many people are considering at the moment (probably in part because we don't want it to be true) is the very real possibility that MP4 launches so far down the road that a (current) Switch version isn't even a thing. Meaning, it launches something like a year or two after the next iteration of the Switch.
One thing I hope for is that the game development isn't hindered due to (current) Switch limitations and considerations, because we all know that this game is now destined to be release no time soon whatsoever.
I really wanted to like the Darksiders games. Bought this and 2 on Wii U and they just never hooked me. The gameplay also always felt a little too... floaty? Light? I dunno. And repetitive.
Didn't even realize another one released awhile back on PS4 and XB1.
Those stating that Nintendo would be fools to do this due to the success of the current Switch, I don't follow the logic. Does Apple stop building iPhones and iPads because the current iteration is selling like hot cakes?
There will be a Switch Pro, the only question is 'when?'
@klingki "It’s pretty solid, but I don’t end up using it that much."
This is what I was coming in here to ask. How many folks actually use this stuff, or even play in table top mode regularly?
Reminds me of the Wii accessory days of 2006-2008. I say '08 because by then enough folks had gotten wise to the gimmick. Turns out you don't need a plastic shell shaped like a tennis racket to play Wii tennis, after all!
@MysticGengar Switch version of Mario Maker would be a nightmare in docked mode.
It's the quintessential first party Wii U title; Nintendo should have realized this three years prior and made it the pack-in launch title instead of Nintendo Land. Also should have called it the Super Wii. Also should have done a lot of things differently.
@Bunkerneath i understand your comment is tongue in cheek, but isn't the switch more than any other console something one would prefer download titles on? The carts are like 16GB.
In no world whatsoever should NSMBU cost anyone $60 in 2019. Nintendo really should have priced that game at $39.99, I don't care how many Switch owners "skipped" it on Wii U.
Even though the appeal of portable gaming is lost on me, Nintendo would be fools to deviate from the blueprint.
I'd be shocked if they did anything other than iterate the Switch brand. Release a Switch Pro this year or early next and call it a day for a few years.
@BusyTressa think more along the lines of PS4 vs. PS4 Pro instead. Same game is compatible for both, just runs at a higher resolution/framerate on the Pro.
@Sidon_ZoraPrince yeah but... if Nintendo did go through with what he's predicting, and break the "hybrid" nature of the product, you can sure bet they would go the all portable route that he's proposing vs. the home console route.

Re: A Trio Of Classic Resident Evil Games Is Coming To Switch This May
@thesilverbrick yeah but, kinda gotta place blame on Nintendo here. Those carts.... questionable decision.

Keep in mind that Xbox hardware is 6 years old. Impressive stuff there.
Anyone that thinks 60fps is overrated is just kidding themselves. Imagine Mario Kart 8 at 30fps

Watched the Direct, went out and bought a One X.
Newegg has the Fallout 76 bundle for $350 right now.
Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February
@electrolite77 Sure, if you're into those types of games.
Re: Deals: School's Out, Time For A New Nintendo 2DS XL Bargain Bundle
I gotta say I do love how salty switch owners are towards anything 3/2DS anymore.

@atomicjuicer Exactly. It's possible that MP4 misses the current iteration of Switch entirely.
Re: Feature: Please Understand: Unpacking Nintendo's Vision For Metroid Prime 4
People need to remember that when it comes to Retro studios in 2019, it's not that dissimilar to Rare after Microsoft bought them.
80% of anyone that worked on the Prime series for GC/Wii is now gone.
Re: All Three Trine Games Are Coming To Switch On Just One Cartridge
Hmm. I gotta say, Switch is a great system for anyone that has never owned another console within the last 8-10 years.

Games like this are exactly why I stopped being exclusively Nintendo. Too many gems out there to play.
Release the Switch Pro, Nintendo.

@PipeGuy64Bit it's only annoying to those that bought a Switch. For those that have held out, the thought of a Switch Pro is super enticing.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Launch Sales Were Actually 56% Higher Than On Wii U, Not 24.8%
@Scottwood101 ironically, this will only further cement Nintendo's approach of reselling the same stuff over and over again.
Glad switch owners that didn't play this game the first time around are enjoying it though.

@maruse well and that's what key here. How soon are these games even coming? Nintendo tends to work at a snail's pace in this regard.

BLOPS4 mostly
Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey - A Worthy Remaster Of An RPG Classic

Is this confirmed?
Re: Turns Out Blue Toad Is In New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe After All
@SBandy I doubt they will. Think about this: how often do you envision 4 skilled people playing this game all huddled around a single switch/TV?
Probably a rare use case in 2019.
If you got some 4 player mario bros going down, somebody undoubtably sucks at it LOL sad but true.
Re: Video: Nintendo Celebrates The Release Of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe With Launch Trailer
Fired up NSMBU for my Wii U last night. I forgot how much I really disliked the floatier gameplay of the 'New' series vs. SMB3 and World.
Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey - A Worthy Remaster Of An RPG Classic
@Obito_Sigma well, for context, the original DS version is actually selling for more than the 3DS version on Amazon right now.
Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey - A Worthy Remaster Of An RPG Classic
"The lack of stereoscopic 3D is certainly a shame, especially considering that Mario & Luigi: Dream Team featured it"
I'd imagine this has something to do with the fact that 2DS/XL are now a thing and have sold very well.
Having never played either of these, does anyone recommend one over the other if they were to only purchase one?

@Bevinator which is why he literally said in his quote:

Some people's blind rage for that guy astounds me.
Re: Looking For A Brand New Wii U? That'll Be $800 Please
I still remember the days of Nintendo selling used 32GB units on their site for $200.
