Re: Nintendo UK Is Asking For As Much As £180 To Repair Cracked Switch Consoles

essiw

@Damo Graduated psychology student here. I am sorry to say but your poll is not as usefull as you think it is. Your poll is to biased, people that have this problem will specifically search or click more often on this topic and more people that have the problem will vote than people that do not have the problem. The Nintendolife readers are not an accurate representation of all switch users. Readers without an account cannot vote. Non-switch owners can vote, people can create multiple accounts to vote. And the list of problems is much longer. The best way to research this is to randomly ask switch owners (taken from a database which holds all, or at least a representative group of, switch owners) if they have cracks, and even then it would have problems. Note that I am not saying your poll is useless, as from your poll we can clearly gather that there is some problem, however with these kinds of polls we cannot state anything about the frequency. I only respond to you because you seem so highly sure of the level of significance of your data (stating that it has a 3% accuracy and such), which is sadly not the case.

Re: Bayonetta 3 is In Development and is a Switch Exclusive

essiw

I don't know why everyone is excited about this being an exclusive. Exclusives are only good for companies, and bad for the players. Somehow you guys are all angry about games not coming to the switch, but like it when games do not come to other platforms... I am not into bayonetta, and am a Nintendo only player, but this joy of exclusives is a bit weird in my opinion...

Re: Random: Mother Orders Nintendo Switch From Amazon, Gets Box Of Washing Powder Instead

essiw

You should update this article "A spokesperson from Amazon said: "We have replaced the Switch and apologised.""
Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mum-orders-300-nintendo-console-11641019

Btw in that article there is a clear photo of how the package has been tampered with, and also why she did not see that at first (clear cello-tape at the bottom-side of the box), so her story is more credible than it at first hand might seem to some of the commenters here (not saying that she might not have faked it, but it at least is more likely this is real).

Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Snow Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough

essiw

@DanElectrode I have four tips:
1: rolling is sometimes better than jumping. I myself won both S classes by bounce, not bounce, bounce in various pieces of the race
2: try out things (like not bouncing all the time) and look at your lap times, figure out why some of your lap times were faster than others.
3: bounce over pieces of snow (in bends), try to take the inside of the bend, try to position your bounces.
4: try handheld, because your face is closer to the screen, you react quicker, this helped for me at these races as well as the jump rope challenge

keep trying, it is very frustrating, but eventually you will get there

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Champions' Ballad DLC is Set for a December Release

essiw

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Most quality games will give you around 1/2 ratio of hours compared to euro's/dollars spend (so for a 60 euro/dollar game you get 30 hours). Some games, like many zelda games in the past used to give you 1/1 ratio (60 euro's for 60 hours). Now your logic is, that because the main game gives you so many more hours than normal, the DLC should have the same ratio? That is just weird. I would agree with you that the DLC is not worth it if it gives you less than 10 hours, and I can even see your complain as valid if it gives you less than 20 hours. But demanding 150 hours from a 20 euro DLC is just silly.

Re: Review: Syberia (Switch)

essiw

I wanted to try this game on the Switch, to see whether I would buy the sequals. But 30-40 euro's for a game that is this old, and not that big... No thanks.

Re: 'Next Gen Nintendo 64 Controller' from Retro Fighters Smashes Kickstarter Target

essiw

@roadrunner343 Don't let it spoil your enjoyment though It took me hours to find out about all that stuff, and it is really confusing. Also my memory might be failing me about which moves in which games do not work correctly, as I searched this up half a year ago. The conclusions I made back then however are still clear to me, which were:
A: the best and cheapest way (though time extensive) to fix your controller is to repair the stick yourself (via various ways explained in youtube vids)
B: the only third party controller that has a perfectly working stick is the Hori Mini pad
C: the best stick that you can buy is the Gamecube stick that you are talking about, but you have to make sure you buy the latest version (and I am hesistant to buy from ebay, as I am not certain I will get the latest version). But even the latest version does skip some positions.

It might be however that there was an update to those gamecube sticks that I have overseen, or maybe some things changed in the last half year, or the sources that I found were incorrect/outdated.

Re: 'Next Gen Nintendo 64 Controller' from Retro Fighters Smashes Kickstarter Target

essiw

@roadrunner343 I know, and I have done extensive research about this. However the gamecube stick skips some of the positions the stick can be set in. This is problematic for certain actions in certain games (I thought I read about you being unable do a spin attack in zelda as you need to rotate the stick through all positions). Therefore you are better of repairing your old N64 stick in various ways that are explained in youtube vids (which I did not yet have had the time for).

Re: 'Next Gen Nintendo 64 Controller' from Retro Fighters Smashes Kickstarter Target

essiw

The kickstarter page does not specifically state whether this is really for the old N64 or for some emulation. I take it this is for the N64? If so, I would gladly back this up, and I would normally not do such a thing. The reason: There are no good N64 controllers except for one (I think it was hori?), which costs around 90 euro's. The reason why there are no good controllers beside the overly expensive one is that the joycon skips inputs on nearly all these controllers, which makes games like smash unplayable.

However like Alex said, how can we assess the quality of this controller, especially that stick.

Re: NBA 2K18 Will Launch Digitally First On Switch, Retail To Follow "Fall 2017"

essiw

@BLP_Software Well instead of seeing it as an issue, they might view the e-shop as some kind of way to test their game (like it is a beta-version) for bugs that they did not come across, so that the physical buyers (which are a different usergroup) immediatly have the best experience. That is just something that came to mind, not stating this as the truth.

Re: Editorial: The Switch eShop Library is Starting to Look Like the Real Deal

essiw

@MariOnline Not true, although I cannot fault you for not finding how to get a list on the e-shop. At one of the options at the left of the screen you have the possibility to select something like "see more" at the bottom of the screen, and from that you can browse the whole list. However this is really suboptimal, as you cannot sort the list in any way, and you have to redo the phole process if you go back and forth from the screen. (Not sure which option it was because I am away from home right now).

Re: Chess Ultra to Make Its Move on Nintendo Switch Later This Year

essiw

@Bunkerneath I fully agree, I really hate it that game ads these days don't show any gameplay. No matter how beatiful your ad is, if there is no gameplay I will not be able to know whether I would like it. In this case though I probably will not buy it anyway, as I am not interested in a digital chess game.

Re: Splatoon 2 Version 1.1.2 Is Now Live

essiw

@SLIGEACH_EIRE right, keep trying to fool yourself with that one. There are nearly endless of examples pointing out otherwise, but I don't have time to put them all here. One for example is skyward sword, where you can break your current save file by going to the ground areas (for the second time) in the wrong order. Technically there is a patch for that one, but it is not as easy as nowadays. Also just go looking at speedruns for old games (ocarina of time or mario 64 for example), games always have bugs and exploits.
