After all the confusion at the beginning of the month, we now finally have a solid release date for Streets of Rage 4 on Nintendo Switch. It'll be released on 30th April and will retail for $24.99.
The news has been confirmed by publisher and co-developer Dotemu, alongside co-developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games. It'll also be launching on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the same day. The announcement brings with it a brand new trailer, which you can check out for yourself above.
The video gives us a first look at the game's Battle Mode, a legacy experience returning from Streets of Rage 2 and 3. Here's an official description:
This feud-settling battleground is bound to help rivals recognise who truly is Wood Oak City’s finest alley-clearing ruffian, as well as settle grudges spurred by accidental friendly strikes during multiplayer sessions.
Just yesterday, we were also treated to a first look at the game's pixel art characters who are returning from past entries. Make sure to check that out if you missed it.
So, 30th April is confirmed, then. Will you be buying it on day one? Tell us below.

Now just bring that physical release to Best Buy. I'll pick this up day 1.
@DTfeartheBEARD I don't think Ill be able to keep myself for downloading this, I may just double dip.
Trying to resist ordering from LRG but time is running out.
@wratih9
Actually, you'll have until May 7th 2020 to place a pre-order now.
Limited Run Games are keeping Street of Rage 4 pre-orders open until one week after the game's digital release.
So if you aren't sure if you want the game or not, you can wait for reviews this time.
Is there going to be a way to disable friendly hits? I always disliked that in the old streets of rage games.
I am beyond excited for this! It is so close!
The music is awesome in this trailer; it's the kind of soundtrack I'm hoping for in the game
Well that is sorted finally.
I still own my original Mega Drive copies of the Streets of Rage series and still play them occasionally, somehow I've never really noticed or played 'battle mode'!!!
Just can't preordered this, I don't trust the developer.
Perfect quarantine game, day one no question!
God can't wait. This month!!!
My favorite Genesis games. Definitely a day one buy for me because of how long I've been waiting for a new entry. SoR 2 was the best out of the trilogy, imo, but they were all a blast and my friends and I spent many hours going through them. I've recently been playing a ton of the second game due to its inclusion on the Genesis Mini, still holds up extremely well. Hope 4 will live up to the franchise's legacy.
it's a new game, not a remake... wait for reviews
After seeing the pixel art extra characters trailer yesterday I broke down and preordered a physical copy from LRG.
Never could resist a decent beat ‘em up game, ever since the arcade days. 😄
This game is just looking better and better, it is shaping up to be the ultimate Streets of Rage game that fans really want! The price is a tad high but for the amount of content involved it is hard to complain, I mean look at all the characters that are returning!
I have no interest in the battle mode, but wow does this game look good!
Beat them up is a genre that I've kind of left aside in the last, let's say, decade. I occasionally play something classic but those games don't attract me that much anymore. However, Streets of Rage is a series that has all my respect and one I spent dozens of hours playing back then. Maybe not on launch day, but I'll get it. It looks beautiful
Was sold to me when sor4 was announced. Nothings changed bring it on x x x x x x x x c x x x x x
I bet they changed it just so that they could say the leak was wrong 😛
I pre ordered both switch and PS4 from LR! Looking forward to it! The first time I ever played SOR 1 on the Genesis with the headphones the music just blew my mind!! I couldn’t believe that music was coming from a cartridge!!!
@TheLightSpirit I have been playing all three and I might agree with that statement, that the first is best. Then I play a game of SoR 2 with Skate. I like SoR3 the least, only because I can't do well unless I use Super Skate.
Overall, I have to give the edge to SoR2, I like the boss fights better than the original and Skate is one of my fav video game characters ever.
Damn it, I want that steelbook but I don't $60-want-it. Looks worth the vanilla physical price, though.
I wasn't sure about buying this until they announced the unlockable characters, now I am definitely getting it.
@NinjaWaddleDee I'm pretty sure the only game to do that in history was Streets of Rage Remake. Even though it'd be a helpful addition, most people would actually disagree with the removal of friendly fire. Friendly Fire allows 2 (or more players) to use themselves as 'Projectiles'. You can grab and throw a teammate into enemies on purpose/ the thrown teammate recovers to prevent themself from taking damage. It's quite lucrative!
@Wavey84 Yeah, I feel the same about hack and slash games. They're the new beat them ups. Sometimes devs put some elements to make them more interesting but they get boring so easily. As you DMC has become the perfect example of it
@mesome713
Lizardcube? Why so?
They need to add couch co-op as well.
It's on Xbox Game Pass day one, which I have for free... so I think I'll save myself the $25.
25 bucks is a reasonable price for a name like Streets of Rage 4. This will get my support if it gets a decent review.
Games like River City Girls 30 bucks are simply too expensive...in comparison it should have been 25 bucks at launch and 19 bucks when on sale.
Really excited for this game and I would have picked it up immediately for Switch, but as it's coming day 1 to Xbox Game Pass, I can't justify a purchase right now. I will definitely pick it up in a Switch sale at some point though.
