Let's just hope this will bring a new Starfox game soon. That's all I care for. But please let it not be a remaster of the Wii U outing, although it might fix the control system this time around.
I recently bought the original game at bargain price, but I haven't played it yet - I was waiting for reviews of this expansion to decide when and how. I'll get this DLC only if it goes on sale, since I'm not interested in the multiplayer part. Should I decide to play the base game before this happens, I probably won't ever get it at all.
Eggman looks a little too out of place for my tastes, I'd rather had him redesigned to fit better. Still I plan to get this DLC anyway, it's no deal breaker at all.
Western release is probably better, although it contains spoilers about the party, while the Japanese box doesn't. Still watching the opening movie was already a bit too revelatory, so no big deal probably.
Frankly I voted Gen I just because it didn't sport legendaries. Although choosing the starters' evolved forms means discarding one (and yes, I already know about Pokémon Green).
I am afraid it'll get released on NSO long before a remaster gets the green light... Also, I'd personally rather have a full fledged remake, as it altready felt quite short back in the day (not counting finishing it three times to see the extra scene at the end).
The Switch version is presently sitting in my backlog, as of now I am undecided about playing it and then revisit it on Switch 2 for the extra content, or doing it all at once on the more powerful console (which I haven't bought yet). I suppose I'll wait for a few opinions, this is not the only game in queue after all.
The Switch version basically forces the player to buy the whole set of extra breeds that is sold as a bundle for the PC version, at the same price (more or less).
I don't know whether it's due to them inheriting the "Donkey Kong Country" franchise or the awesome work they did with the FPS Metroids, yet I'd really wish to see Retro Studios come out as the saviours of all of RareWare's IPs. Shame it won't ever happen.
I'd really like to see these guys' interpretation of "Super Smash Bros.". Since Sakurai declined to make the next iteration, it'd be very interesting to see the next chapter in the series made by someone of Arc System's caliber.
Having played the original last summer, I don't think I'll feel the need to revisit it anytime soon. Still, despite its obvious faults - which I can't really list here, as they would contain too many spoilers - I can't say I wouldn't recommend it to newcomers. Maybe I'd suggest to wait for a price drop.
Now this is interesting. I was always curious about the franchise, a single player-focused iteration might just be the chance I was waiting for to jump on board.
Thankfully I haven't played this one yet on Switch, so I'll be able to savour it in its best incarnation (yet) once I'll grab Nintendo's latest console. One of the very few instances where having a huuuge backlog actually made things better... Meanwhile I've also put every other Switch game with, ahem, benefits on Switch 2 that I haven't completed yet at the end of the backlog queue.
It took me a while to fully appreciate this, back in the day - and yes, it had to do with the drastic turn taken by the art direction - yet I think that the final confrontation here is still unsurpassed. A shame that a few content got cut and some sections were diluted instead, and a further shame the Wii U remaster wasn't a full fledged remake amending those issues... Yet despite this emulated version coming out today, there's still hope we'll see a better reissue in a few years. That and a new F-Zero, of course.
I am not eager to see Diddy Kong (I always struggled to love the character) and I have a feeling we won't: after years of trailing into RareWare's path, this game feels like a true reboot for the character. Probably there are also economic matters tied to characters being created by the British software house, also explaining the Kremlings' absence since the N64 days.
I am really glad I decided to give it a shot when I found it in the bargain bin: it's a really fun, immediate yet deep game. And that music... You'll be whistling it a lot, whether you'd want it or not.
I remember some comic strips starring the various pilots from back in the day, shame they weren't featured more in the actual game. God bless the sequel on GC for the short but sweet story mode that highlighted some of them.
Among the franchises listed as options, I'd really wish to see a new "F-Zero" (my pick) and a proper "Starfox", even if "Starlink" wasn't so bad (especially at the bargain price its starting pack reached, and the Arwing model is proudly displayed on a shelf). Still I wouldn't say no either to an "Eternal Darkness" remake (a remaster wouldn't suffice anymore) and new entries in the "Wave Race" and "1080° Snowboarding" series - not having a new installment of the latter on Wii, given its Balance Board, was practically criminal.
I have a really soft spot for Labo. Really inventive, yet it was clearly mostly targeted at kids, something I'm presently lacking, so I ended up not buying it. A shame that all some people understood about it was "Nintendo selling cardboard for the price of a game".
I mean, this time we're not getting just the graphical upgrade, and your average Switch DLC doesn't cost anything less... I won't play the devil's advocate on other price tags recently announced, yet these don't feel unfair.
