Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of No Man's Sky On Switch

@WallyWest In this case, such a comparison is detrimental. You may get fence-sitters making their decision based on this information. There's already a comment here questioning NLs high rating of the game based on this video.

The game was released for hardware which already exceeded Switch specs, a year before the Switch was even released.

It would be like reviewing a 6-cylinder Dodge Charger and coming to the conclusion that it won't perform as good as a Hellcat.

Re: Review In Progress: No Man's Sky - Right Up There With The Very Best Switch Ports

Having played the PC version from launch, I was already familiar with the basics, so I didn't have much of a learning curve to deal with. But I gotta say, besides the surprising quality of the port, the thing I am most happy with is how they mapped the controls. Controls feel intuitive to me, having an idea how the menus etc are laid out. I've only got a short time so far, just built my first base computer and shelter but I can't really see anything that would cause rage quit. Multiplayer is a non-factor for me, since I never played it anyways...

@Nanami_Ataraxi if you play it on normal mode, it's quite chill. I prefer exploration, so if I run into the rare hostiles, I just run away.

Re: Video: What Was Your First Video Game Ever?

I'm old. Back in the day, my parents were in a bowling league and I had to go to the alley with with them. They had a game center with the typical pinball machines, but they also had things like Breakout and Space Invaders.

Re: Random: Meet TinyTendo, The Handheld Console Made For NES, By NES

@CANOEberry It's possible but I figure error prone and time consuming. The little black chips you see on computer boards, etc, are just the carriers for a much smaller chip inside (what he refers to as the die). Look at a picture of an old ROM chip with a transparent window; that little piece inside the window is the actual die, the part that makes it work. The rest is just the carrier for connection to the outside world. That picture is 40 years old, too. Newer tech is even smaller.

Re: Rune Factory 5 Passes 500,000 Global Sales On Switch

I've got about 140 hours logged, so I'm apparently enjoying it, but I don't know if I would recommend it. There are a number of issues, detailed elsewhere (frame rate, random crashes), but ultimately, this whole franchise feels like a set it-n-forget it, in that it doesn't seem to get much post-launch dev attention.

Re: Surprise! A Hatsune Miku Picross Game Is Out Now On The Switch eShop

agrazioli

It's on the NA shop now so I picked it up. At $10 and change it seemed reasonable but I'm not sure how far I'll go. I was hoping for a new Picross soon, and figured this might scratch that itch, but this lacks the finesse and polish of Picross. There are some limitations already mentioned that make me luke-warm. Too bad they didn't work with Picross to make an official crossover.

Re: Random: Isabelle Reclaims The Official Animal Crossing Twitter Account, But Fans Have Mixed Feelings

Can you blame her for her drinking issue or her tendency to babble? She works 24 hours a day and never gets a single day off. No wonder she looses her socks all the time. At least the Nook Brats and Able Sisters get down-time (altho the Nook Brats are the ones who do the overnight construction). Poor Isabelle is there every frigging time you need her, some times she even just nods off at her desk.

Re: Feature: Why We Think Crazy Redd Will Bring His Artwork To Animal Crossing: New Horizons

For starters, I believe that grave in the trailer is nothing more than decoration, probably for whatever they'll call Halloween. On my first day, I did see a ghost across the river, but since I didn't have any means to cross it, I couldn't interact with it.

That stairway in the museum can be for a number of things: Redd's art gallery, Brewster's Roost (didn't he used to be in the museum prior to New Leaf?), or anything.

Also, I finally unlocked KK Slider, which means I have all currently available shops built. But Isabelle said today that it would be nice if there were more stores on the island, so I figure something is coming.

Re: Funko Announces Four More Pokémon Pop

agrazioli

I don't necessary like Funko Pop stuff, but I'd probably pick up Mr. Mime, just for the discomfort factor. I do collect Nendoroids, so I can see the allure of the Funko stuff. They're cheaper, easily available (heck, I've seen some in my local supermarket), and they tend to shadow western pop culture more than Nendoroids, making Funko Pops an easier sell. Still, just /sigh.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Is Your Video Game Collection Really Worth To You?

agrazioli

I've been a collector for years, long before it was fashionable, since maybe 1988ish. In my younger days, I was involved with like-minded collector groups and we traded things back and forth. But over time, I've come to regret things I've gotten rid of. In terms of video games, stuff like my original GameBoy; Atari Lynx II; a fully decked out Atari Jag with JagCD. I think video game collecting goes hand-n-hand with retro computers, and some of my stuff were Atari Falcon030; DEC VAXen and PDP-11s and other stuff of that ilk.

Of course, sometimes pragmatism needs to prevail, and especially with the larger stuff, there was simply no more room. Stuff I have now will probably remain, but are easily obtained, like Atari 2600 or VIC-20 and other Commodore stuff...
