@Blur_Escalation So, one of the three modes happened to appear slightly less than a third of the time? Why should 150cc be more common? Heck, with even chances you're still racing at that speed two thirds of the time.
The patch notes here are copied from the cited nintendo.com source, so I should hope they're correct.
@shani Pretty sure the Switch doesn't have a camera. There's a light sensor on the console and an infrared depth sensor on the right Joy-Con, but nothing that can actually take pictures.
In any case, I don't see this becoming a major problem. This particular issue will be patched in a hurry, and what an attacker could do with the Switch is relatively limited anyway, which means they probably wouldn't bother when there are better targets (they certainly haven't with any Nintendo console so far, to my knowledge).
I think/hope the Mirror/200cc thing is actually something to do with the VR requirement, rather than the chance of those classes appearing when the requirement is met.
@shani Okay, you're gonna have to explain how you got from "involuntarily saving screenshots" to "privacy disaster". Merely pressing the capture button doesn't allow anyone else in the world to see what you're doing, and the system tells you when a screenshot is taken so if it does capture something you don't want people to see (having a hard time thinking of examples...) you can just delete it.
@Tetsuro Miis can be three different sizes depending on Mii Maker stats. Small Mii is equivalent to Baby Mario/Baby Luigi/Dry Bones, medium is equivalent to Mario/Ludwig and large is equivalent to Bowser/Morton.
I just realised there's a mistake in the article. The modifiers for racing in water/air/antigravity are not universal; they are different for each vehicle part. For example, the Mach 8 gains 0.5 speed and 0.25 handling in antigravity. These stats are not shown in game at all but they do exist; there's a list that includes them here.
@pepollet Is that for original MK8? Deluxe stats are different.
@Malanta Worth noting that all the parts you've listed have negative speed. Parts that boost speed tend to have worse stat totals. Not sure whether I agree with the design decision.
@DarkRula Definitely true that high-speed builds are less viable on 200cc, but the tricky thing is that unlike on Wii U, once your online rank is high enough you have to play both 150cc and 200cc, so you need to be able to handle both with what you're using.
Personally I've been using female Villager with B Dasher, Wooden wheels and Plane Glider. Looks cool IMO and has decent speed and handling without killing other stats too much. Not yet sure if I'm comfortable with it in 200cc though.
@Gridatttack I kinda felt like some of the tracks were boring when I first played the game, but I've mostly gotten over it and grown to like them, although the Mushroom Cup is still pretty meh.
Mount Wario's pretty great, but it kinda feels like the others were picked just for being cool or iconic, although that's not to say I don't like them.
Why in the world did they never patch this in the original game? Maybe they didn't want to mess up time trial records or something, but it seems like too glaring a flaw to ignore.
Removing it seems unnecessary to me. I never noticed an impact online and if you really didn't like its existence you could play 200cc instead (it doesn't work in that mode).
If I recall correctly, in the early days of amiibo the less famous characters were intended to be limited-run products. I guess this is like that, except they actually went through with it instead of looking at demand and taking a hint.
Nintendo keep underestimating the strength of their own brand. I hope the Switch will give them a confidence boost.
"Initial stock has sold out - we anticipate more stock to arrive in late March. Customer orders will be fulfilled in the order they are placed."
So it sounds like they don't actually have stock right now; they've merely started taking orders for the next batch. They're not being terribly clear about it though.
@nab1 Okay, I don't get why people are citing Mario Maker like it's the only touch screen game worth mentioning. There have been three Nintendo systems with touch screens, and countless games on those systems that wouldn't have worked (or at least wouldn't work as well) with button controls. You've also got to account for the possibilty of mobile ports, which would be plentiful with a touch screen and scarce without, not to mention things like Miiverse and Art Academy, which may not be games but are a big part of the Nintendo experience for many people.
@nhSnork Saving to amiibo takes a few seconds, but reading from them (which is what you're usually doing) is more or less instantaneous. Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival actually relies on quick amiibo reading as part of its gameplay.
This is worrying. If they're hiding something, it's not wise to create doubt about a feature that's important to many fans. And if there just isn't a touch screen, well, they're abandoning a feature that's important to many fans. I really can't get excited until questions like this are cleared up.
As a Wii U successor it's quite nice, but I'm in no hurry to ditch my 3DS. I want my dual screens and 3D display. Also, as others have been saying, this thing better have some battery life... and the dock had better not be required for charging.
Of course, it doesn't seem like Nintendo want to end 3DS support any time soon. So I'm left wondering what their strategy is going to be in that area.
The overlap with Mario Golf and Mario Tennis seems like a weird choice for this, seeing as both are on 3DS already. Nice to see football again, though.
Holy crap I was so sure they'd never do it. As a devoted player since release I'm glad to see Nintendo still care after all. My only regret is that I can no longer say "this game has never been updated" when people insist that new lines have been added since release. Splatoon did not invent the phrase "turf war", guys!
So hey, remember I said I emailed Nintendo and they never got back to me? Well now, two months later, I received this amazingly unhelpful reply.
"Thank you for your email regarding Mario Maker and apologies for the delay in our response to you.
In regards to your created level, under certain circumstances we remove uploaded levels. This doesn't necessarily mean you did something wrong. We do this to keep things fresh and entertaining. Please don’t feel punished but rather encouraged to try again with a new level to entertain other players and your friends alike.
We recommend you to check out the Super Mario Maker Bookmark page (https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/) and hope you will keep creating new levels and challenge your own creativity.
We apologise for any disappointment and if you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us."
60 free points a week just for using Miiverse and the eShop is rather nice if you ask me.
@NintendoFan64 One type of points requires buying stuff, the other doesn't. Nintendo thus control what you can and can't get without actually spending money. Makes sense to me.
@ikki5 Apparently, if your level is deleted for lack of popularity you can reupload it, but if it's deleted for any other reason you can't. Nintendo offer no explanation either way.
Yes, guys, Nintendo delete levels to save space... if they're unpopular and a few months old. They wouldn't delete hours-old levels for space. That's ridiculous.
This has happened to me as well. I had a level deleted less than 12 hours after uploading and I can't reupload it. Nothing offensive about it, I assure you, and it got at least one star. I emailed Nintendo of Europe and they said they'd investigate, but they never got back to me.
Totally agreeing with Kitamura at the beginning. A lot of games from that era feel like they're just throwing enemies at you without any thought as to how you're supposed to deal with them. Interestingly, the many newer games paying homage to the NES days tend to feel a lot fairer. Game design has come a long way.
@khaosklub I guess, but you risk losing your save data pulling tricks like that. Either way, it only makes sense that Nintendo don't want to provide an easy way of cheating. Especially when they're putting all this effort into making trades work at all. (I mean, if it were anywhere near easy, they'd be doing this for other VC games.)
@Gridatttack Yeah, funny we only saw each other once. Our matches were out of sync, I guess. You were a worthy indirect rival, at least.
@Fee If I looked a bit awkward at times, it's becuse I was using the gamepad instead of my usual GC controller. Guess it didn't hinder me too much in the end though.
(okay but Zyrac why are you replying to comments instead of sleeping it's almost 2 now geez)
I had a lot of fun! Even if the lag got pretty bad at times. Just so people know who I am, my Mii name is Nick and I mostly played Villager, Kirby, Jigglypuff, Lucas and Guybrush (Mii Swordfighter).
And now I really must go to bed. Why y'all gotta make me stay up past 1am?
I can't possibly say no to Wild World. Lack of the original online features doesn't really bother me as long as I have Miiverse. The insistence on releasing all these VC games on Wii U rather than 3DS is annoying though.
I've often heard it said that Sakurai and Miyamoto had argued over whether Kirby should be pink or yellow, but here it sounds like Miyamoto agreed to pink right away. Hm.
I'm in the UK, so pretty darn far away from the Japanese folks I tend to be playing ranked mode with, and I don't notice any real lag issues. Heck, connections tend to be worse during the region-locked Splatfests, although that's presumably due to how many players they attract.
I don't think even optional regional servers are a good idea because that's still fragmenting the playerbase, which is a significant concern when you need eight people to do anything.
Frequently, the majority of players online are Japanese. Indeed, I suspect that without them it would often be nigh-impossible to find a ranked match. And this "lag advantage" thing just sounds like nonsense.
@NelClena I don't actually have that many, but still, I find it inconvenient. When I check my activity feed I want to be up to date with everyone, not pick and choose like that.
If there were an indication of whether someone's made multiple posts since I last checked, I'd be okay with this. It's the fruitless profile-checking that irritates me.
@Dpullam See, what I don't get about this is the implication that you are, for some reason, following people whose posts you don't particularly care to see.
