MY first Zelda was OOT. Since then I've had an on again, off again relationship with the series. Basically I love and revere OOT, Twillight Princess and Breath Of Wild. I really don't care for the other Zelda games, whether they're 2d, toonified, motion controlled, sidescrolling or whatever.
At this point, I would recommend starting with BOTW because it's the biggest and the best.
For me, it was a very long wait between OOT and TP then again from TP to BOTW because Windwaker and Skyward Sword were trash, so I can wait a bit longer for BOTW2.
I'm a similar age to you. I will never forget playing Lylat Wars for the first time... and completing it on the day I got it. Chucked it to oneside, and was like, now I have the rumble pak to help me find those pesky Skulltulas. I did enjoy it though, however brief the experience was.
I remember back in the day playing Banjo and being like ‘wow, how is this better than Mario 64’? That was a paradigm shift when you realised Nintendo could be outNintendo’d. Fair play to Rare. What an achievement this game is.
Might be time for me to jump back into the Professor Layton and Fire Emblems series. Haven’t played either since Diabolical Box / Radiant Dawn, so it’s been a while.
@Giowo I agree. It’s good that they let these classics enjoy their space and time to shine, but I’m not interested because the emulation quality is poor.
@Meteoroid You might feel that way, but there are a whole lot of people that feel differently about that. Go back and watch Twillight Princess's announcement at E3 if you are unsure about that. A proper Zelda game for the GameCube. A true successor to Ocarina of Time. Toon Link was a dud.
It’s such a flexible and convenient system. And the games are fantastic! Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing… I’m in triple digits on some games and nowhere near done with them.
You’ve also got the best family and party games around. My kid loves the Pro Controller, but hates the DualShock 4….
I have a PS4 too for FIFA and COD etc. but that’s just for me. The Switch is for the whole family.
I'm the same as you in that I'd rather play AC than GTA, but in my case it's just because I'm older now.
These days, growing things is more fun to me than destroying things. Back in the day though, I loved GTA's sandbox. I would get such a kick out the fact that you when you took over vehicles you started to work for those services; ambulance, taxi, police etc... All kinds of stuff in those games was incredibly cool.
I don’t understand how the Wii emulation of Zelda can be be better than the Switch emulation. I can only guess that they didn’t put any effort into this service.
I’m thinking to buy FIFA 22. I need my football fix. I know it’s the same game with an updated roster, but I need an up to date roster, so what can I do?
Super Mario Bros. was great and all, but did it come built into the hardware? Nope. Alex Kidd on the other hand was right there on your Sega Master System 2. No cartridge needed. A true pioneer!
Lylat Wars was incredible. I remember how disappointed I was to beat it in one sitting, but I kept coming back to it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite n64 games.
@Shiiva I feel you. Personally, if I have 1 hour per day to play, I’d rather spend that time playing the modern iterations than returning to old games. They’re nice to have and all, but not worth a significant outlay. £20 for online is fine, NES and SNES games are just sweeteners. Swelling the price to £35 for adding N64 and MegaDrive games seems ridiculous to me.
@Shiiva if you have limited gaming time, which most people do, old games are just curiosities. I think Nintendo has overestimated the value of n64 games…
To give this improved screen but without any increased power under the hood is just milking the fanbase. Fair enough, I’m sure they had their reasons and people will still enjoy the improvement anyway, but come on, the OLED is just a minor blip on Nintendo’s hardware evolution.
Everybody dumps on Other M, but that was a good game, unfortunately they just messed up the story and made Samus out to be weak. If I remember correctly, she only got her powers back when she bent over backwards for Adam. Spoiled the game, but everything else was good.
Great review! I loved Monkey Ball on the GameCube. It was my dorm's favourite game at uni. Not sure I'll pick this one up though, at least for the time being.
Sorry but does this thing have rumble or not? The rumble pak was a huge plus back in the day. I mean, that rumble in OOT to let you know a secret was near… without that it’s just not the same for me.
I really like Mario Golf but it lacks modes. I want to play online but get bored waiting in the lobbies. Really enjoyed the campaign, but once you’re done you’re done. I hope they’ll be another update.
Metroid Prime Trilogy is way better than the other Metroid Prime games. Instead of getting just one on a disc, you get all three. Now that's value. Thank you NintendoLife for confirming my long held suspicions that Metroid Prime Trilogy is, in fact, a superior product to a single instalment of the Metroid Prime series.

Re: Best Super Monkey Ball Games Of All Time
Nothing will beat the original for me. What a game!
Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - An Absolute Marvel, But Is It Better Than BOTW?
‘Honestly, we couldn’t get enough of travelling between all three maps’
What are the three maps?
Re: We've Played Sonic Frontiers, But What Did We Think Of It?
@ChickenJoe my kid likes Mario games and only Mario games, so consider yourself lucky ( coming from a hardcore MegaDrive fan).

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time
@RubyCarbuncle "Sonic 1 on both the Master System/Game Gear and Megadrive is the best game to me."
Surely you mean 'are the best games for me'.
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Sports Games
@Tandy255 I don’t know buddy. I love playing bowling with family, friends or online. It’s a staple in my household.
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Sports Games
Err.. I thought this was going to be a Switch Sports love fest, and it isn’t even included on your list. What gives?
Re: Talking Point: How Long Does Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Take To Beat, Really?
Getting the 'true ending' was enough for me. I messed about a little after that with side quests, but I was pretty much done. Amazing game!
Re: Nintendo's Huge Switch Sale Begins, More Than 1,000 Games Discounted
@Joriss nope

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Game Awards 2021?
Just this:
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU IDIOTS THOUGHT WE'D SEE BOTW2
But referring to myself.

@Giowo I agree. It’s good that they let these classics enjoy their space and time to shine, but I’m not interested because the emulation quality is poor.

How can you ask that question without putting Wind Waker on the poll?!
C’Mon guys, be fair! To but Twillight Princess as an option and not Wind Waker! WTF?
Re: Feature: Our Verdict On Mario Golf: Super Rush's Version 4.0 Update - The Final New Characters, Courses And Modes
It's the added game modes that I wanted, so I'm happy.

Re: Feature: 14 Wii Games That Deserve Switch Ports
Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Wario Land.
Re: Soapbox: Even If GTA Trilogy Were Perfect, I'd Rather Be Shooting Balloons And Burying Gyroids
This is actually a love letter to both games.

Re: Watch: This Is What Grand Theft Auto Definitive Trilogy Looks Like On Switch
I’m nostalgic for these games, but watching that video doesn’t make me want to go back and play them. I’d rather just play GTAV, i I need a GTA fix.
Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In October 2021 (Europe)
@My_ultimate_is_ready but what about young players? I need Emile Smith Rowe and Saka in my Arsenal team.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack' Trailer Is Now Its Most Disliked YouTube Video Ever
When they drop the price, I hope the early adopters get a shiny certificate and a few game boy games to cheer them up.

Lylat Wars was incredible. I remember how disappointed I was to beat it in one sitting, but I kept coming back to it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite n64 games.

What did RE4 do to hurt you?
Re: Poll: Which Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Should You Play First Via Nintendo Switch Online?
Heart-warming to see that Nintendo fans still hate Sega.
Re: Poll: Which Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Should You Play First Via Nintendo Switch Online?
1. Sonic 2
2. Streets of Rage 2
3. Golden Axe

Nintendo are really trying it on. Oh well, I’ll jump in when they aren’t taking the mick, and that’s it.

@Yosher for people who play handheld innit.
Re: Review: Metroid Dread - Quite Possibly The Best Metroid Game Ever Made
Whether this game is better than Super Metroid or not will depend on my judgement.

Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons
Sorry but does this thing have rumble or not? The rumble pak was a huge plus back in the day. I mean, that rumble in OOT to let you know a secret was near… without that it’s just not the same for me.
Re: Nintendo Is Releasing N64 And Sega Genesis Wireless Controllers
I had the six-button controller, but only used it for Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, so I'm not really going to miss it without that game.
Re: Nintendo Is Releasing N64 And Sega Genesis Wireless Controllers
That N64 controller needs to rumble like crazy when I'm looking for secrets in OOT and blowing things up in Lylat Wars.
Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier
I’m totally ready for an N64 nostalgia trip. Games I would like to see on the service:
Lylat Wars
Body Harvest
Space Station Silicon Valley
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Beetle Adventure Racing
F Zero X
And if Microsoft are feeling friendly:
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Banjo Kazooie
Re: Best GameCube Games
@Bizaster should be way higher
