@link3710
Weird, had no idea about the latter, as most wouldn't. And for me personally, better sharpness or even 720p being bumped up to 1080p is irrelevent since even 9-Axis Gyro can't perfectly replicate the wii remote pointer aiming. The Wii U verison it is then and it's going for cheap now thanks to the NS1 port existing for years now. Yet I can't get on board with NS2's Pro Controller 9-Axis Gyro or split Joy-Con 2/Or even using the latest Hyperion3 Ultra's simply because the pointer aiming hasn't been replicated or utilized in the same fashion as it was on Wii & Wii U.
Pikmin 4 still could get that 60fps bump, and at this point it's the only one i truly care about anyways. Pikmin 1 on Wii was glorious for it's time, but the graphics have clearly aged as they have with P2. The NS1 ports for 1&2 may be spruced up with 1080p, but in all honesty that doesn't really do GameCube-tier graphics any favours in most cases.
It exposes all of the muddy low res' textures and makes character models look hard and less organic thanks to the original lower polygon count.
Probably going to pop on eBay and rebuy the Wii versions for Pikmin 1&2, and get 3 on Wii U. Won't be diving into 4 until we get an NS2 edition with 60fps.
@EarthboundBenjy Zero's controls felt wonky in X3. X3 was just a weak sequel all around. The boss animations looked stiff and unifinished, topped with the step down kitchen sink stage design and familiarity of it all made it the less interesting of the SNES trilogy. X1 is a bonafied Classic, and X2 isn't too far behind.
X4 however is fanfrikkintastic. The first entry in the series to transiion into 32-bits with CD quality audio. It went back to basics, but allowed you to play as Zero from the getgo, and he played flawlessly. I still have a loose copy of X4 for PS1 too. The X Legacy collection just sucks on NS1. The input lag and doggy doo CRT filter had me throwing in the towel.
Best to experience them on SNES & PS1, on a good 27" CRT TV on the original hardware, otherwise the experience is going to be compromised.
@PrinceFroggy
I haven't played too much of DKC since the mid 90's. It sure was mind blowing back in 94'. I remember walking into my best friends basement, which was basically a child's haven full of video games, board games, action figures, comics etc. And his brother looks at me pointing towards DK 94 on their 27"-something and CRT and says "I bet your Sega Genesis can't compete with graphics like this"
I looked over to the TV, and couldn't believe my eyes. DK's prerendered animated intro and that iconic jingle instantly popped up with gramps DK, leading into the world map, then stage 1. As stunning as it all was, and amazing as the OST was and still is, it failed to hook me, nor did it have anywhere near the same level of impact, on me, compared to the likes of Super Mario World back in 91'. I enjoyed it enough, but it's core gameplay & controls felt so simplistic, to the point where it could of almost been an NES game wrapped up in a wondrous cutting edge SNES shiny coat of prerendered paint.
DKII i hear is the Trilogy's magnum opus, but what about the 3rd entry? It always seems to get a bit of flack, but then there's plenty of people that say it's still a good game, but it's just notoriously overshadowed by the first two.
Cool, I'll just buy Silent Hill Townfall, if it actually lives up to the hype on Steam and hold out for the inevitable PCVR mod would should get a release in it's early build just a month after as it did for RE9 Requiem, and play that with Steam Frame.
Not looking forward to Belmont's Curse. The Art style is seriously lacking too. I'm more of a ClassicVania guy, two MetroidVania's(SOTN & Dawn of Sorrow) were enough for me.
And still no 60fps for NS2, even with an NS2 Edition. Just wild.
Then again, The NS2 still can't replicate the Wii & Wii U versions pof Pikmin 3's Motion pointer controls properly, for those that want it.
The way Gyro has been implemented works differently, and just doesn't cover enough ground, even supposedly with 9-axis, albeit less drifty than 6-Axis.
Wii U version of Pikmin 3 is still the definitive experience, and with modern QD-OLED Samsung TV's you can could force game mode motion interpolation and run it at a fake 60fps, but than that doubles input lag to 20ms(from 10ms) and you get smacked with occasional image artifacts.
@N00BiSH
Classic all the way. Don't get me wrong, Mega Man X1 was amazing for it's time back in 94'. I'll never forget experiencing Chameleon Sting's Stage & Boss battle for the first time, which were such a masterclass dazzling showcase for the SNES hardware, after growing so accustomed to Classic Mega in 8-bit, even after rolling with Genesis for a couple years prior.
X2 was really good too, but i felt that the more open ended less linear stage design hurt the experience. X3 felt rushed, lower quality and was plagued with Kitchen sink stage design. Hated that game. X4 for PS1 was fantastic and the last great entry in the series, and the first sequel to transition into 32-bit with CD based Audio. But then it got weirder and weirder after that. It's been over 25 years since Legends 2 after all.
X5 was alright, it had it's moments. But that's when MMX started to lose it's soul. I wouldn't mind seeing an X9 that redeems the franchise, but eh I could take it or leave it. What I'd rather see is Legends 3 personally. OR better yet, a 3D Mega Man that takes place in the Classic series/universe. Time to take a break from 2D Mega after 12 and make the transition to 3D already.
@Oldstalk
Well said! You perfectly described exactly how these games feel and play. Rythmatic platformers that feel like they were designed for speed running while perfecting an almost seemless flow, which is the polar opposite of the PS1 Original. They're completely different beasts. The latter being a classic and tried n' true platformer that demands high precision, perfectly timed jumps and everything we've grown accustomed to from the 80's & 90's up until that point.
Retold sure looks pretty though. I never felt quite the same for Origins & Legends. At times, they looked beautiful, but then almost attrocious. Dawning an almost hard edged lifeless flash-animated look that was almost too minimalistic at times. Retold on the other hand looks like a next gen modern day childrens story book brought to life. Huge upgrade.
I've played Origins originally on PS3 which was stunning for it's time, but eventually just beat it on Wii. It felt me feeling cold when all was said and done. It was a 5/10 at best, stacked up against the brilliant overlooked Wario Land Shake it!, Klonoa Remake & Mega Man 9 in terms of 2D Wii platformers that released prior.
Meanwhile, I must of sunk in maybe 3 hours with RM Legends before calling it quits. I'd probably give Retold a shot on NS2, just because NS2 has a proper traditionally styled D-pad, where as with the DualSense it's like a rubbery detached-thing that feels so gross and unsatsifying to the touch.
@beer_gas_canister
Gochya. But that's not to say the Toaplan Collections aren't worth while. I recently just picked up the first, and it's emulation of Batsugun ultimately beats the earlier S-Tribute port, mainly because of the difference in latency. Can't seem to figure out how to correct or mitigate the White detail clipping in anything White when using CRT mode. So now I'm back to raw/pixel mode, since smooth mode slightly dims the image down. I also turn off original frame rate, since it seems to introduce a less stable 60fps with nearly every release in the collection.
I'm sure if M2 tackled Batsugun and every other release in both Toaplan collection they're emulations would no doubt come out on top, due to their stellar reputation.
I might looking into getting this simply for Fire Shark, when it eventually goes on sale, digitally. Maybe, I'm not a huge fan of Flying Shark, or even Fire Shark. The dirtier drowned out Megadrive-like sounding OST is just grating. And that includes Twin Cobra. Not hating on that Genesis sound, it's INcredible at it's best in the right hands like with Streets of Rage 2, Ghostbusters, Lighting Force and more.
As for as 90's Schmups go, I'm more of a Batsugun, Dogyuun & Loop Master fan and so fourth.
@Quarth
Nice! M2 does not wrong. Digital Eclipse however...
I just compared the older S-Tribute release of Batsugun, to Batsugun in the latest Toaplan Arcade Collection Vol. 1, and as expected Batsugun in the Toaplan collection feels less laggy and more responsive. It's definitely the way to go beteween the two.
You've got more options at your disposal in terms of screen settings and CRT filters too. Although, the CRT filter, even with it's wealth of controls seems to completely clip/blow out all details in whites, otherwise it looks pheonomenal. But i can't seem to fix that issue which will be a deal breaker for most. Other filters like Smooth would be ideal but it slightly dims the image, so i just throw it on rawl/pixels.
No point in keeping S-Tribute Batsugun anymore. S-Tribute are notorious for butchering their releases with high input lag. Cotton Boomerang & Cotton 2 spring to mind.
@Axecon
I always felt like both Origins & Legends were mediocre 5/10 platformers, where the core gameplay fell in the backseat, with the main focus being on visuals & audio. They always felt sloppy, less tactile, too easy, almost like rythem-based platformers vs the likes of the original PS1 Rayman which was just wonderful for it's time in 95' for numerous reasons.
Retold looks fantastic from a visual standpoint, but if it's essentially the same game at it's core than I think I'll pass. Those floaty Rayman controls just don't jive with me.
@WiltonRoots
Haha. I thought he made a return! He was great, but ultimately bailed complaining that this site was flooded with too many Nintendo fanboys.
Also, what's the point of buying this overpriced stand alone release for Fire Shark/Flying Shark when you can get both in the Toaplan Arcade Collection Volume 1?
Which also includes 6 other Schmups like Batsugun, Twin Cobra & more? And it's currently on sale for $25(Cad)...Am I missing something here!? Wish NS1 would get the original Dondonpachi(Arcade), instead of the bullet hell chugging madness of the later releases like Dodonpachi Resurrection, Blissful Death and Saidaioujou in the series. Esp Ra.De still hasn't come to NA for NS1 either.
@brakeman90
I always viewed the rewind feature as cheating, but save states definitely come in handy and i think we can both agree that more modern gamers wouldn't be able to handle the difficutly of MM1, 3, 9 & 10. And don't get me started on MM & BASS(MM 8.5). It's an excellent entry, but holy bat balls is it unforgiving(Burner man? Not for the faint of hearts). Then again, the GBA version zooms in and crops out most of the stages. The SNES conversion reproduction cart is definitely the way to experience it.
And i find it much more difficult to play the MML emulated versions. The jumping just feels off and delayed, and you lose that instantaneous on the dime feather weight button response. But like you said, people will ultimately adjust and if they don't have a reference(CRT, OG software & hardware) than they won't know any better.
As for those Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters? Do they even have a CRT mode. I couldn't tolerate the raw 16 bit HD pixel look in Widescreel completely filling my 55" 4K TV. FF2 & 3 look sooo much better on a CRT running off composite cables on an SNES than the remasters that's for sure.
And the only way to make the first 6 NES MM games look better in the L1&L2 collection, would be to go into your NS1 or NS2's display settings and custom shrink down the screen percentage to get MMLegacy 1's 4:3 Native 1:1 aspect ratio setting smaller, basically closer to 27" or no more than 32" and then applying quality CRT filter options, through something like the latest RetroTINK4K 6x CE($300+ US/external scaler device) but most people won't go through the trouble of getting and hooking up one of those to their NS1/NS2 obviously. As for the darkened desaturated NES color emulation? To compensate, just use Native or wide color gamut on your 4K TV and raise the color depth and stop right before colors start to clip.
Still no getting around the latency proplem. But if you're adamant and getting the lowest possible, i would just use the JCN2's with the controller grip, or if you must have a D-pad, use the NS2 Pro Controller 'wired' instead of wireless.
I was told that console emulations have at least 1 frame of lag(So about 17ms....And that's best case scenario), where as the Legacy Collection is clearly pushing more. Than you combine that lag with your 4K TV's lag(10ms) and then the controller latency, and whalla.
@Windbreaker1612
Don't mess with the Legacy collection, as far as Mega Man 1-8 go. The lag is high, the NES emulations have dark dessaturated colours and the CRT filters are awful. If you're willing to make the investment get the original NES carts off eBay, and MM8 on disc for PS1, and the original consoles/controllers and pair it with a 27" Sony CRT. I left out MM7 because the cart is so expensive. Probably better of just playing it on the Legacy 2 collection and saving $300.
Anyways, MM Legacy 2 is 100% worth buying though simply because you can't get MM9 & MM10 anywhere else now since the WiiWare shop closed years ago. Also, they're not emulations. They are ports. They are the only 2 games in the collection that don't suffer from any lag or dark ugly colors compared to MM1-6.
@brakeman90
I can't stand the MM Legacy Collection. As somebody who has played the classic series since the beginning in the late 80's, that collection does not do the NES entries or MM7 & MM8 justice, at all. The input lag is abnormally high(Feels like you're jumping around in metal pants with a ball & chain ancored to Mega's legs), the colors are dark and desaturated(This is an ongoing issue with ALL NES emulation), and Capcom's CRT filters look like total crud, and don't soften or cartoonify the sprites as they'd look on a CRT.
It's a bigger investment for sure, but if somebody really wants to experience Mega Man 1-8, get the original cartridges off eBay(loose disc copy of MM8 for PS1), an NES, SNES & PS1 and pair them to a consumer grade 27" Sony CRT TV over Composite(And RF for NES) and whalla, you're getting that amazing real authentic experience with zero compromises. Vibrant colorful colors, blur-free CRT motion clarity, zero lag, the right screen size, authentic CRT-look on the real thing.
I will say though, Mega Man Legacy 2 is absolutely worth buying simply for MM9 & MM10 since they're not emulated. They're direct ports from the Wii's WiiWare shop. They don't suffer from any latency. You'll just get 10ms of lag from your 4K TV and however much from the NS2 Pro Controller. The CRT filter still sucks though. Those games looks so much better on my 32" Sony WEGA Trinitron SD CRT(Over component cables) during the Wii-era, than they do in this collection on a 4K TV.
Also, Mega Man 7's cart is a pretty penny on eBay. $300(Cad) Might want to just settle for the Legacy 2 version, unless one were to dive into the MiSter Scene.
@OldManHermit
Mega Man 11 is surprisingly difficult. Torch Man's stage says hi. I bypassed using the Item Shop, which felt like a glorified cheat code. So i went in taking out the robot masters and whatever with my pea shooter so i could master their patterns.
10 definitely was harder though. Heck, try beating MM10 on hard mode. That was no easy feat! As for MM12. They just showed hands-on gameplay footage, and each robot master has 3 stage sections go chose from instead of one regular long one now. Lives are gone, you when you die you automatically start from your last check point which i don't like personally as it prevents you from fully mastering each stage. So now you're no longer punished for losing all of your lives, and the Chip-set gives Mega man different upgrade/abilities with their own set of draw backs so they don't make you feel you're constantly in god mode.
Twinkle Girl is such a lame looking Robot Master design. It's like they weren't trying. Cactus Man apparantly won the Robot Master Submission competition too.
Twinkle girl's design is oh so weak. What a disappointment. That's the best they could come up with for another female Robot Master? Splash Woman mops the floor with her.
@Splash_Woman
I really enjoyed 11. My main gripe with it was most of the soundtrack(Acid man's theme was fantastic, being one of the few exceptions), i hated the Item shop which was essentially a massive cheat code in disguise! And the ending was so by the numbers, including the final boss against Wily which felt a bit uninspired. Plus the gear system was a mixed bag. Using Slow-Mo was fun and defintiely came in handy, but speeding things up was so unsatisfying.
Still an excellent sequel. It's the first MM game to be in widescreen, have modern-esque graphics, The robot masters were pretty solid, the controls were spot on, the boss battles were a blast etc.
MM12 feels like a fusion of 11, MM8 and with a splash of MMX's dna. Twinkle girl is so dissapointing though when stacked against Splash Woman....That MM9 reveal back in the late 2000's was just magical and super exciting simply because it was one of if not the first retro 8-16 bit rennasaunce titles(During the Wii's Virtual Console era, Castlevania ReBirth and more), and just seeing MM return to 8-bit, with those iconic chip tunes was bloody awesome! Unfortunately, MM10 missed the mark. 9 however is a bonafied classic, and is the only sequel to almost feel like a spitual successor to MM2.
MM12's trailer didn't excite me at all unfortunately. The music really sucked too! I was hoping to see more of the robot masters. All we got was Twinkle girl and the return of Astro man.
@OldManHermit
Feels like Mega Man 8 fused with 11, with a splash of MMX's dna. Didn't really care for the trailer all that much, and the music was a huge let down. Plus, Twinkle girl is nowhere near as unique nor as awesome as the inclusion of Splash Woman in MM9. just felt a bit generic. Nothing really stood out. It's cool seeing Astro Bot make a return, hopefully they left his flamboyent hair stylist/Barber NA voice in tact.
I'm still looking forward to it, but most of my excitement is resserved for RE Veronica, OOT remake and the Steam Frame. I'm sure this will be any easy NS2 port/multi-console release since Capcom's modern Mega Man games are 1 generation behind in visuals. I just hope it winds up feeling fresher than MM11 did(Which i really enjoyed mind you) instead of another near-retread.
@UpsideDownRowlet
Was really surprised by the demo. Had such a good time with this one. But does it really need 120fps? As much as i love 120, i dont think adding in 60 more fps to a game like this in particular is going to make it more pleasing to the eyes, other than removing 50%(Which does make a huge difference mind you) of your 4K TV's motion blur, and making the controls more snappy thanks to 120fps cutting down half the latency (from 10ms to 5ms).
Eh, might as well save this one for NS2 then, including Mina the Hallower to gain that 120. 4K on the other hand for sprite based visuals is irrelevant to me, 1080p gets the job done and HDR is always a mixed bag due to potential washed out colors and whatever else.
@HugoGED
This. M64 has an adapter for composite, S-video and component, an Eject button and greater M64 Pro controller.
Still, M64 has issues currently with its image quality. Theres white clipping with its CRT filter for those pairing it to a 4K tv.
But i think we're in the clear when its hooked up to a CRT and all filters are turned off.
@GoproGO I kind of want to get the white one, and just buy an N64 Emblem/decal from Etsy and pop that sucker on the top front to make it look a bit more fun.
But i don't know, the N64 isn't one of my favourite Nintendo consoles. I have plenty of Nostalgia towards it, but it completely pales in comparison for the love i have towards NES & SNES.
More interested in getting the Analogue Pocket & NeoGeo AES+ at this point.
@Darthroseman Does the A3D alow you to manually shrink down the 4:3/FullScreeen size to lets say 27 or 32"? instead of the 4:3 image completely filling a 55" 4K TV?
N64 games imo, look best on a 27" CRT, or worst case scenario a 32" as long as you're sitting back farther.
@GoproGO
Plus, Most N64 games have aged worse than the 1989 Hostess Munchies potato chips nesting under my sofa. There are exceptions, like Mischief Maskers, which not only still looks nice but it's one of the few N64 games that runs at 60fps.
I'm still on the fence with either M64 or A3D. M64 has picture quality issues appareantly where whites clip using it's CRT filter settings and whatever else, so it's not ready for prime time just yet until it gets a proper update. Plus ModRetro still hasn't updated their M64 Pro controller to have less than 1ms of latency via Bluetooth 6.2(SCI) yet...
As is, I'd rather play N64 games, if i were too, on a 27" Sony WEGA CRT over Composite cables with the original console, with a brand new wired OEM N64 controller & Rumble pack anyways. Still slightly open to the idea of getting the white A3D or M64, but they're less appealing to me vs the Analogue Pocket, Chromatic & Neogeo Aes+
Right now, A3D is the better option. Sure, there's no eject button and aesthetically speaking, it looks clinical and boring, as if it crawled out of a dr's office, but it has the best image quality as of now, and when paired with an original wired N64 controller.'
It's such a shame this game still isn't available for sale, and is restricted to play only with NSO...I find it far more enjoyable than Mario kart 8 Deluxe too. Can't stand the latter!
I've only plunked in maybe 4 hours with Metroid Dread, and eventually dropped out of it. The controls are superb, but it lacks the artistry, detail and fenise compared to what RetroStudio's has achieved with the Prime series, nor does it match the quality of Super Metroid or Fusion.
Enemy designs are bland, many of the environments(Although, technically profecient) are a bit barren and sterile. Those E.T's(Whatever you call them) are so vanilla in design. I'm too early in I guess to even form a decent opinion, but I haven't really enjoyed what I'm seen thus far.
It truly feels like a high budget outsourced indie game from a lesser studio. Same deal with Samus's Return. Would of been neat if Prime '1, 2 & 3' Retro Studios before they were fragmented took on the next 2D Metroid. At this point, I wish i could experience Prime 4: Beyond with Steam Frame + Steam machine in VR instead.
I'm pretty much done with console emulation, i shoot for the real thing with original software(Neogeo AES+ is up next! funk' NG Arcade Archives), hardware or FPGA hardware on CRT & maybe modern QD-OLED, but NSO VB is an exception to the rule thanks to it's exclusive colored filter options and 2 unreleased titles.
But it sucks, because NSO VB forces you to pay for the most expensive monthly membership. I have no interest in playing NES, SNES, GEN, N64, GB, GBA & NGC emulations on an HDTV at this point.
If only i could drop like $5 or so(cad) a month and have access to just NSO VB and nothing else. And it's funny, people are complaining that NSO VB is all just temporary, and you don't own the games digitally. NSO VB will most likely continue and be available until NS'3' is over by 2030 or onwards.
I'm more intersted in D-Hopper and the different colored filter options. Wired Framed' Zero racers looks just as soulless as Red Alarm. Just imagine playing F-Zero 99 on a stereoscopic 3D 4K 55/65" QD-OLED, or in 3rd person VR(using Steam Frame) with the same exact traditional controls found with the NS2 Pro Controller.
Prime 3 for Wii is my favourite Metroid and one of my favourite games of all time. The Wii remote & Nunchuck controls were revolutionary(VR-like controls on your big CRT TV in 2008), and i loved it's more grandos, epic, nintendo-feeling less isolated vibe and atmosphere, just the comradary between you and the once uninfected bounty hunters, loved the soundtrack, that sequence where you fight against Ridley as you're soaring down that endless tunnel. it was an easy 10/10 for me, minus the underwhelming final boss design, dark Samus aside. For me, it was leaps and bounds better than Prime 1.
I finished Prime on Cube when it first came out, and i honestly felt mixed with it. Hated the controls(Stick aiming never did it for in first person outside of Golden Eye 007's multiplayer, and I never liked mouse controls either with DOOM 1&2, Wolfenstein etc, there was too much scanning, and i found the environments a lot less interesting. Murky, descolated, almost depressing. Just didn't vibe with me at all.
Prime 3 & Super Metroid are the two i love the most. Still need to play through Fusion & Zero Mission. Can't get into Dread(Clinical presentation, visuals aren't up to snuff, enemy designs are bland, cutscenes are ameture etc, even though it does control like a dream.)
Also beat Metroid NES years ago which i enjoyed but it feels pointless now to even go back to once Super M paved the way in 94'. As everybody knows Metroid NES's achillies heel is the lack of a map, just like with Metroid II(GB), which i also completed. But that one was less interesting and far more difficult to nagivate through thanks to the black & White visuals which made it so much harder to differentiate each environment from the next.
You need to bust out some crayola's and some paper and make your own map as you gradually trudge through both. But in all honestly, i wouldn't bother with either at this point. They're too prehistoric.
I hear Zero Mission is just a by the numbers 'easier' Super Metroid Wanna-be, albeit more polished. But Fusion, Fusion is more unique, linear in structure and it just seems to stand out a lot more. Also going to check out Prime 4 at some point, but the motercycle hub dessert bloat looks god awful, and there won't be any wow factor, since first person VR has now existed since 2016. lol
@Antraxx777 Nope, but it's definitely going to be worse than MK II. I actually really enjoyed MKII, at least everything before Scorpion and Noob Saibot in the neatherrealm.
I can't stand NSO because of emulation lag combined with HDTV lag(Using the Wii on a CRT was way better because you ruled out any display lag since the CRT didn't have any), you can't get NSO's CRT mode's screen size any smaller(It fills the entirity of our 55 & 65" 4K TV's which is way too large) >
from the slow drip schedual and lack of heavy hitter gems, and having to sucumb to a monthly bill. I've tried it a few times and it never works out for me. I want the original software on oniriginal hardware, on a CRT or new FPGA hardware on a 55" QD-OLED TV.
yet NSO VB is a different situation entirely. Lag will be present, but offering different exclusive colored filters, 2 unreleased VB games and easil accessible JPN imports has me kind of interested.
this movie wont have a single fight that will come close to matching the fight between Vega and Chunli in the 1994 animated movie. This movie looks as if its trying to be as silly, cheeky, hard hitting, loud, obnoxious, in your face and over the top as possible to compensate for all of it's shortcomings. Ryu firing his hadouken looked terrible.
@Misima
Virtual Boy Wario Land is the GOAT. That's 'the' reason why you buy a VB.
Still, i think Teleroboxer, Clash Bros. & Jack Bros are charming and enjoyable enough. I've always wanted to try out the JPN imports for Mansion on Innsmouth & Space Squash too.
Could never stand either Mario Tennis & Red Alarm though. void of any soul, and they're so basic. I usually don't mess with NSO, simply because of emulation lag combined with HDTV lag, and not being able to manually shrink the CRT mode's screen size smaller to like 32" for ex for NES, SNES & GEN games, including the slow drip limited release schedual and library, plus monthly bill.
BUT, NSO VB is a different case entirely. With it's new replacement/shell peripheral, with wireless connectivity to an NS2 Pro controller, new colored filters exclusive to NSO VB, and 2 unreleased VB games, including JPN imports make it pretty enticing! Kind of weird though how Nintendo isn't selling a wireless OEM VirtualBoy controller separately. Bundling one with the VB shell would of been too costly which is why they ommited it.
@axelhander
I completely forget that when SMB Super Show originally aired that it actually used liscenced music. I used to watch it back in 89 & 90' so it's been a long time beyond the Shout collection releases.
The latest DVD releases have terrible cover art, and ya, no live action peewee's playhouse brookylin Mario live action segments. lol I also used to have the Shout release of Zelda, but i foolishly sold that years ago, and now i have the newer WildBrain Single DVD release. With just one DVD, while the newest SMB Super Show dvd releases have 2 I think for each season. which means the episodes are more compressed since they crammed the eps' themselves onto less discs to save money. Oh well, we used to watch this broadcasted on TV on our 27" CRT's(or whatever) over Coaxile/RF.
These cartoons don't need to look prestine and clear as day. The softer analogue signal and SD if anything make these cartoons look more organic and believable.
@Friendly
Grab yourself a PSVR2 & PS5 and play through Village on that. You will be blown the fudge away by the VR cutscenes. I tried replaying Village on a 65" 4K TV and it felt like nothing by comparison. Completely forgettable. But you won't know until you have a reference(PSVR2).
Also, Lady D & the daughters take up maybe 1 quarter of the game within Castle Demetriscu. Capcom had us believing that Lady D was one of the main big baddies in Village, but that just isn't the case.
And good luck with House Benievento in VR. That sh** is terrifying when you feel like you're actually IN it. RE7 VR for PSVR'1' however feels like you're trapped in some demonic living breathing nightmare. It's like Blair Witch meets Wrong Turn meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Not much of a surprise that Capcom plans on churning out one RE game a year now. Money talks, and the series is a smash success.
I prefer playing RE in VR these days. I struggled to get into the Requiem PS5 demo. I've been spoiled by RE in VR thanks to 7, 8 & 4Remake, to the point where it makes it incredibly difficult to go back and play it flat.
Thank god for the PCVR requiem mod. They're saying it's practically indistinguishible from a native in house Capcom developed VR RE game. Actually, it's even better since PC is capable of having a lot more power under the hood than PS5 pro, combined with overall better headsets like Steam Frame. So expect 72-90fps without reprojection, higher resolution and whatever else.
RE Veronica is already getting a PCVR mod next year, and will be ready to go in just 1 month or so after the game releases thanks to Praydog & Talssman. And I'm calling it now, Resident Evil Zero(2028) will be the nex remake that gets unveiled after Veronica debuts in 2027. Then next year, RE10, then probably a second RE1 Remake, folllowed by 5, then RE11 and finally RE6 which imo needs to be something else entirely than what it originally is. I hope Capcom makes RE6 an entirely different game.
Not feeling the art style at all, looks like a souless brown & grey PS3 game that crawled out of the late 2000's, at least going by the screen shots. Back to Batsu-GUN!
@Kid_Sickarus
haha. I'm nearly 42, and look early to mid 30's so I'm not quite there yet. California raisin mode will no doubt take in effect at 65 and onwards. lol Funk getting older.
The thing is though, if Capcom actually winds up popping an RE game out every year we may get RE burnout and fatigue at some point. I really hope they try and switch things up a little and add new gameplay element/mechanics that continue to make the franchise feel fresh.
I've played and beaten every mainline entry in the franchise, except 9: Requiem. 2Remake was incredible(S-Tier with 120fps mode on PS5), and I adored RE7 & 8 for PSVR1/PSVR2. 7 & 8 have to be experienced that way to truly get the most out of them imo. playing both flat literally fell flat. At least for me anyways!
"The Dimitrescu daughters—Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela—are not Lady Alcina Dimitrescu's biological children. Instead, they were created through a horrific biological experiment using the Cadou parasite and a swarm of specialized flesh-eating blowflies"
"Local young women or maid corpses from the village were exposed to the Cadou parasite"
"The parasite caused blowflies to consume the human bodies entirely, then replicate the cellular memories and shapes of the women"
"They became a mass-swarming colony of insects capable of taking a human form, which explains why they turn into a flurry of bugs when attacked and share a severe weakness to cold temperatures that freeze their insect bodies."
Nobody was expecting this. You find out during the first quarter of the game. I mean, we all initially thought they were the vampire daughters of Lady D. Vampires sounds a lot less chilling and messed up than what we got. ;P Still haven't played 9 yet either. I know nothing about that game other playing through the demo a few times. holding off until the PCVR mod, with Steam Frame.
@Zuljaras
Never would of imagined the 3 daughters were thousands of zombie flies merged together to take on the form of a human.
The 3 women were originally consumed by the flies, and then the flies took on the ability to transform back into them but with a more vampire-like appearance.
Good! There was too large of a gap between 4 Remake and 9. Next up after Veronica will most likely be Zero for 2028.
RE is my favourite game franchise and I'm not getting any younger so bring it on. The quality for each and every mainline RE game has been fantastic since 7, after the dumpster fire that was 6.
2Remake, at 120fps on PS5 was S-tier imo. While 7 & 8, including the first half of RE4 Remake in VR were experiences I'll never forget. 7 & 8 have to be played in VR to get that absoute most out of those two. Still haven't touched 9 beyond the demo. Holding off for the PCVR mod until i invest in a PC. Pricey pricey!
@axelhander
I still have the 89' cartoon on DVD. It's so charming and nostalgic. Love it, not nearly as much the 89' Mario cartoon + live action segments mind you.
They have SMB SuperShow 89 on Prime, but they butchered the live action segments. They reduced the show's frame rate instead of everything feeling like it's a stage play. The only way to watch the show the way it was intended was with the first/earlier 2 Season DVD sets from 'Shout' from 2006. You can get them used on eBay.
The latest DVD releases don't even include the live action segments. Total tragedy. lol Meanwhile, Captain N: The Game master is top dog out of the three I'd say. Unfortunately, the DVD set is out of print and goes for well over $200 on eBay now. You can watch it on YouTube, if you don't mind the slight downgrade in picture quality.
@Li_Bae
The only proper way to experience RE7: Biohazard & RE8: Village is in VR imo. if you're playing either flat you're missing out big time. The flatscreen versions of both literally fell flat for me personally, but in VR it's like your'e inside of a living breathing nightmare, the immersion, visceralness, sheer scale of everything, scares, suspense, tension, wow factor and fun factor ramp up dramatically.
RE8 is more gothic whimsy Guilmero del Toro meets Resident Evil, and isn't really scary outside of House Benievento. But RE7 in VR. It's not for the faint of heart. Blaire Witch meets Texas Chainsaw meets Wrong Turn in a nut shell. An experience I'll never forget, including 8 VR & 4 Remake VR(at least in terms of everything prior to the castle + island)
That scene with the zombie running towards him from a far away in the snow is something out of a nightmare. Right when you think he's in a classic styled RE Safe room with a type writer and ammo.
Everything from the type writer, green shot gun shell ammo box, the shotgun being holstered on the Wall reminscent to RE1. The top tier cinematography, the lead character feeling like he's an RE player and not some veteran etc. Love it!
The only RE movie i still love and kind of cherrish, and think back on when I was 18, in 2002, was with the wonderful movie theatre experience i had with the original. That Marylin Mason/Beltromi Synth OST oozed so much atmosphere(Capturing the cold sterile chlostrophobic corridors perfectly. In ways, it sounded like futuristic john carpenter), tension, suspense and did wonders at conveying and driving so many of the scenes.
Never cared for any of the sequels, although the 2nd felt like one big stupid fun glorified high budget cosplay convention. lol Extinction wasn't good either, but it was the last half decent sequel before the films turned to complete and utter crap. And I can't forget about Welcome to Racoon City. It's not too bad. It started out really promising during the first 20 minutes or so with claire, and there were some nice touches with the mansion stuff. Plus that zombie that Birkin was working on, on the gurnee table towards the end, with her guts exposed was pretty unnerving.
Yet Lisa trevor was handled oh so poorly and was easily the worst character in the entire film. No elongated creepy arms, didn't look disfigured or disproportioned...Just some teenager in a halloween mask trying to act creepy. And what did they do to Leon? No Barry, and I'm not entirely sure I liked how they humanized and grounded 'nice guy' Wesker. It had it's moments, and it's boasting some fun vibes. A heck of a lot better than After Life, Retribution & The Final Chapter. Yet trying to tackle both RE1 & RE2 simultaneously was a bad idea. It felt crammed and all over the place. It's a 6/10 at best.
I prefer the idea of of an RE movie being it's own thing within the RE Universe(Like this new RE reboot.) rather than trying to 100% adapt any of the video games. That would just be boring.
Trailer looked weak. And I'm over MetroidVania. I want more ClassicVania's that break new grounds and switch up the formula. Curse of the Moon 3 would be a nice start!
GBC games usually sucked 95% of the time. It released in Nov 98', and most of the games lost that distinct classic GB art style, music and overall quality. It was during the end of the GB era after all and it was showing, 8-9 years in.
Link's Awakening DX, is the only exception I'd say, but it's technically a 1993 GB game with Color. Plus, Oracle of Seasons & Ages feel like Link's Awakening rom hacks.
OG GameBoy all the way, spanning from 89 - 95 is where it's at! GB in 1995 and onwards is when it was all over for me.
Playing GB games on either an Analogue Pocket or ModRetro 'Chromatic' is definitely the best way to fly.
And there's still no Gyro Aiming....lol I can't play first person-anythings on a TV with stick aiming. That's so 2005. I was over that 20 years ago once the Wii paved the way with metroid Prime's mind blowing revolutionary wii remote pointer aiming.
The PC version at least allows for reinforced custom gyro with the Steam Controller, and maybe even NS2 Pro? Same thing applies to Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug war and anything else really.
Looks played out as heck. There's a couple games in there that I'm mildly interested in, but eh. And we need an NA release for that upcoming Goemon/Mystical Ninja collection already.
Looks like a 7 to me at best. Having already beaten the 3DS Remaster at launch, it too was around a 7.5 with stereoscopic 3D at max, without the latter, i would of dropped it down to a 6.
Hard for me to get excited about this, when it's technically just flat reskined PS4 Pro+ graphics(Which do look fantastic) while being nearly the same dated game at it's core. 1440p, PS4 Pro+ visuals, on a big 55-65" QD-OLED & HD Rumble 2 should be great though, but I'm just in no rush to play to play with zero excitement based on my end.
The only excitement i have for NS2 at the momento', and I'm sure this rings true for most of us, is finally catching a glimpse of Zelda OOT Remake's in-game footage during it's next trailer unveil.
The most incredible way to of revitalized Star Fox 64(NS2) would of no doubt been in 3rd person VR using Steam Frame and playing it with an NS2 Pro Controller. Could of been Unreal, especially the submarine stage with the giant monstrous marine life. it's gutting when i see SF on a flat TV, and know just what could of been.

Re: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Updated To Version 1.2.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@link3710
Re: Mega Man Series Producer Says Capcom Would Love To Revisit Mega Man X
@EarthboundBenjy
Zero's controls felt wonky in X3.
Re: Mega Man Series Producer Says Capcom Would Love To Revisit Mega Man X
@PrinceFroggy
Re: Konami Press Start Showcase Announced, Expect News, Updates And "Exclusive Footage"
Re: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Updated To Version 1.2.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Re: Mega Man Series Producer Says Capcom Would Love To Revisit Mega Man X
@N00BiSH
Re: Rayman Legends Retold Wins Best Switch 2 Game Award At Gamescom 2026
@Oldstalk
Re: Review: Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark (Switch) - M2 Delivers Two Seminal Sharky Shmups
@beer_gas_canister
Re: Review: Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark (Switch) - M2 Delivers Two Seminal Sharky Shmups
@Quarth
Re: Rayman Legends Retold Wins Best Switch 2 Game Award At Gamescom 2026
@Axecon
Re: Review: Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark (Switch) - M2 Delivers Two Seminal Sharky Shmups
@WiltonRoots
Re: Video: Here's Your Best Look At Mega Man: Dual Override Running On Switch 2
@brakeman90
Re: Video: Here's Your Best Look At Mega Man: Dual Override Running On Switch 2
@Windbreaker1612
Re: Video: Here's Your Best Look At Mega Man: Dual Override Running On Switch 2
@brakeman90
Re: Mega Man: Dual Override Looks Immense In New Gameplay Trailer
@OldManHermit
Re: Mega Man: Dual Override Looks Immense In New Gameplay Trailer
Twinkle girl's design is oh so weak. What a disappointment. That's the best they could come up with for another female Robot Master? Splash Woman mops the floor with her.
Re: Mega Man: Dual Override Looks Immense In New Gameplay Trailer
@Splash_Woman
Re: Mega Man: Dual Override Looks Immense In New Gameplay Trailer
@OldManHermit
We need a Mega Man Legends 3 after this.
Re: Pipistrello And The Cursed Yoyo Shadow-Drops On Switch 2, Boasts 120fps Gameplay
@UpsideDownRowlet
Re: Talking Point: Is An Analogue 3D Worth The Money?
@HugoGED
Re: Talking Point: Is An Analogue 3D Worth The Money?
@GoproGO
I kind of want to get the white one, and just buy an N64 Emblem/decal from Etsy and pop that sucker on the top front to make it look a bit more fun.
But i don't know, the N64 isn't one of my favourite Nintendo consoles. I have plenty of Nostalgia towards it, but it completely pales in comparison for the love i have towards NES & SNES.
More interested in getting the Analogue Pocket & NeoGeo AES+ at this point.
Re: Talking Point: Is An Analogue 3D Worth The Money?
@Darthroseman
Does the A3D alow you to manually shrink down the 4:3/FullScreeen size to lets say 27 or 32"? instead of the 4:3 image completely filling a 55" 4K TV?
N64 games imo, look best on a 27" CRT, or worst case scenario a 32" as long as you're sitting back farther.
Re: Talking Point: Is An Analogue 3D Worth The Money?
@GoproGO
Re: F-Zero 99 Receives Ver. 1.7.2 Update, But The Patch Notes Keep Its Changes A Mystery
It's such a shame this game still isn't available for sale, and is restricted to play only with NSO...I find it far more enjoyable than Mario kart 8 Deluxe too. Can't stand the latter!
Re: Feature: Six Things I'd Like To See in 'Metroid 6'
Re: Mini Review: Zero Racers (Virtual Boy) – Is This F-Zero Spin-Off The VB's Long-Lost Killer App?
Re: Opinion: When It Comes To Metroid's Future, Familiar Is Better
Also going to check out Prime 4 at some point, but the motercycle hub dessert bloat looks god awful, and there won't be any wow factor, since first person VR has now existed since 2016. lol
Re: Video: Street Fighter Live-Action Movie 'Blanka Vs. Ryu' Special Look Released
@Antraxx777
Nope, but it's definitely going to be worse than MK II.
I actually really enjoyed MKII, at least everything before Scorpion and Noob Saibot in the neatherrealm.
Re: Virtual Boy Cardboard Model Gets A Limited-Time Discount In Select Locations
Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026
What's the hold up with RetroWare's Toxic Crusaders?
Nothing on that list for me, except for maybe Orbitals & Angellos 2.
Re: Video: Street Fighter Live-Action Movie 'Blanka Vs. Ryu' Special Look Released
this movie wont have a single fight that will come close to matching the fight between Vega and Chunli in the 1994 animated movie. This movie looks as if its trying to be as silly, cheeky, hard hitting, loud, obnoxious, in your face and over the top as possible to compensate for all of it's shortcomings. Ryu firing his hadouken looked terrible.
Re: Two Cancelled Virtual Boy Games Join 'Nintendo Classics' Next Week
@Misima
Re: "It Might Show My Age" - Zelda Movie Actor's BOTW Memories Will Make You Feel Old
@axelhander
Re: Capcom's Goal Is To Release A Resident Evil Game Every Year
@Friendly
Re: Pragmata Starts Strong, But Resident Evil Series Is The Star Of Capcom's Latest Financial Report
Re: Review: Truxton Extreme (Switch 2) - A Thrilling Return For A Classic Shoot-'Em-Up Series
Not feeling the art style at all, looks like a souless brown & grey PS3 game that crawled out of the late 2000's, at least going by the screen shots. Back to Batsu-GUN!
Re: Capcom's Goal Is To Release A Resident Evil Game Every Year
@Kid_Sickarus
Re: Capcom's Goal Is To Release A Resident Evil Game Every Year
@Friendly
Here's the official back story & explenation >
Re: Capcom's Goal Is To Release A Resident Evil Game Every Year
@Zuljaras
Never would of imagined the 3 daughters were thousands of zombie flies merged together to take on the form of a human.
The 3 women were originally consumed by the flies, and then the flies took on the ability to transform back into them but with a more vampire-like appearance.
Re: Capcom's Goal Is To Release A Resident Evil Game Every Year
Re: "It Might Show My Age" - Zelda Movie Actor's BOTW Memories Will Make You Feel Old
@axelhander
Re: "It Might Show My Age" - Zelda Movie Actor's BOTW Memories Will Make You Feel Old
@8bit-Man
Screw Zelda, nothing will ever top the 1989 Cartoon series.
I want a live action StarTropics movie. lol
Mike Jones just never gets the respect he desserves haha.

Re: Resident Evil Movie Trailer Is Already Putting Past Adaptations To Shame
@Li_Bae
Re: Resident Evil Movie Trailer Is Already Putting Past Adaptations To Shame
Re: Konami Confirms Its New Castlevania Game Will Launch This October On Switch
Trailer looked weak. And I'm over MetroidVania. I want more ClassicVania's that break new grounds and switch up the formula. Curse of the Moon 3 would be a nice start!
Re: Review: Denshattack! (Switch 2) - A Satisfying Yet Bloated Dreamcast Homage
Arcade Mode with little or no story could of bumped this one up to a 9.
Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked
Re: Mouse: P.I. For Hire Gets Massive Switch 2 Update With New 40fps Mode
Re: Two More Retro Arcade Collections Are On The Way To Switch
Looks played out as heck. There's a couple games in there that I'm mildly interested in, but eh. And we need an NA release for that upcoming Goemon/Mystical Ninja collection already.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Fox On Switch 2?
