@readyletsgo good to hear! I definitely plan to mod it. Possibly a soft mod at first, and then depending on timing a Saturn Satiator if it ever gets released.
Edit: I’ve also heard great things about the RetroBit Saturn controller. I might pick one of those up sooner than later to use with my Genesis mini until I get a Saturn.
I literally just bought a N64 off eBay less than 2 weeks ago. Yes, the controller is insane, but so many of the games are timeless classics that hold up well to this day. I plan on tracking a Saturn down next...
I’ve got mine on preorder. Looking forward to it. I’ve got a couple of Nintendo form factor controllers from 8bitdo, but this will be my first Sega one.
I’ve got this on pre-order, as well as the TG-16 mini that comes out next March. They’ll sit in the shelf next to my SNES mini. 12-year old me would’ve lost his mind!
I have 2 sets of Joy-Cons. The first set that came with the Switch, purchased summer 2017, have never had any issues. Our second set was purchased along with Smash Bros Ultimate late last year, and the left analog stick started drifting about a week or so ago. I was able to clean it with electrical contact cleaner, and so far it’s corrected the issue. But this is definitely an issue for many, and shouldn’t be discarded just because your personal set of Joy-Cons aren’t currently having any issues.
@Nerdfather1 I hear what you’re saying, but I personally disagree in this case. Yes, the internet is often a sewer of unreasonable negativity, but elements of Sonic’s design is iconic for a lot of people who grew up as fans of the games and cartoons. For those fans, what was shown so far has been akin to giving Mickey Mouse a 3rd ear. As for the director, this movie is about an established character, and the film is aimed in large part towards an audience who are fans of, or at least people who are already familiar with that character. If those people are in large part expressing specific ways that they aren’t happy with the portrayal of that character, then it’s in the director’s and the studio’s best interest to listen. And I’m taking the fact that they are as great news. I’ve been a fan of Sonic since the Genesis days, and my kids have grown up playing his old and new games. I want them to get this movie right, so I can take my kids to this movie and hopefully some sequels down the road.
@Lionyone there might be a few games (cuphead, the excellent Ori) that get ports and involve downloads, but for the most part, Xbox game pass will be a streaming service.
@cleveland124 I was going to make some similar comments, but couldn’t have said it better! I didn’t even notice the a/b buttons being flipped. Yuck! There’s a market for this kind of device if it’s done well. There are some good ideas here, but its current state is a poorly executed mess.
Meh. Hyperkin doesn’t have the best track record. I wonder if you can pair the receiver with 8bitdo’s N64 controller. 8bitdo made a Bluetooth N64 controller, but no receiver for an actual N64, which is just baffling.
@MarinaKat it’s not really a size thing. It would just look out of place in my TV cabinet next to other consoles and components. I would prefer it to look like the original Neo Geo home console. Just my personal preference.
I love this trend of high quality retro mini consoles. I have the NES and SNES, and would love similar quality offerings of Genesis, TG-16, N64, Master System, Gameboy, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. This SNK one is cool, but I wish they released one that looked like a regular Neo Geo console. I don’t really have an ideal place to set up a mini arcade cabinet, unless I take it to work...
@XenoShaun I own a Switch as well as both the NES and SNES mini. I play all 3 fairly regularly. I really like these mini consoles, and personally prefer it to a retro game collection on the Switch. They’re fun to collect, and I feel it’s a more authentic experience compared to the original consoles. Although adding wireless controllers like the 8bitdo ones is necessary if you want to enjoy it in a living room environment. Just my opinion/usage...
@johnvboy uhm... the Wii U had problems, but I don’t think it’s main problem was that the hardware wasn’t cool looking. There have been plenty of examples of hardware that looked great from the outside that didn’t sell well, and plenty that didn’t look good but sold well. The main disconnect, as I see it, was that there wasn’t enough compelling software at launch that sold consumers on why dual screen gaming was a selling point for a home console. If Mario Maker was a launch title, that piece of software alone illustrates what made the game pad worthwhile. It may not have made it a complete success, and we’ll never know for sure, but I think it likely it would have been a better demonstration than what we got... which was Nintendoland, and... I guess maps and inventory are kinda nice on the tablet, but you’re gonna press pause for those anyway, so they may as well be on the TV.
The problem with Wii U was that they didnt have enough software at launch to demonstrate why the game pad was essential, outside of Nintendoland. Had Super Mario Maker debuted alongside the hardware, it likely would have changed the system’s fortunes a good deal.
