Re: Atlus Announces Soul Hackers 2, But It's Not Coming To Switch

Troll_Decimator

@ShadowofTwilight22 Obviously, even if I mage an absolutely garbage game on Unity in 5 minutes someone is going to buy it, so literal 0 sales are not possible, but 500k or lower is not good by any stretch. Of course some Playstation players like JRPGs, but it's a rather niche group. It used to be bigger in the PS2 up to Vita days, but nowadays Sony themselves are focusing too much on Western AAA games.

Re: Atlus Announces Soul Hackers 2, But It's Not Coming To Switch

Troll_Decimator

@UltimateOtaku91 Good point, I didn't notice that it's also on XBox. Persona 5 is one of the best JRPGs of all time, though, those are very modest sales given how good it is and how much it has been promoted by Sega, Sony & word of mouth. Wasn't it even a GOTY contender? Soul Hackers won't sell anywhere near that much despite being a multiplatform. The Switch would have been an easy homerun. Maybe they just need more time to port it. Just looking at the game, it doesn't look very detailed or anything, it should be portable.

Re: Atlus Announces Soul Hackers 2, But It's Not Coming To Switch

It is going to sell zero copies on PS5, people buying PS5 are expecting top of the line graphics, not something that looks marginally better than Tokyo Mirage Sessions. I'm guessing this is a Sony funded project, at least partially for limited exclusivity, otherwise it makes no sense to not bring it to Switch as the primary development platform.

Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

Troll_Decimator

@Half-ShellHero What makes you think that Nightdive have a better track record than Grezzo? That's a laughable take. Nightdive has never worked on a game as great and important as Ocarina of Time, they have only worked on B or C tier IPs, and they have mainly worked on first person shooters, that are far easier to develop/remaster.

Don't get me wrong, I would welcome them to work on remastering some of Nintendo's back catalog, but they sincerely haven't done anything to write home about yet. Nintendo games would require a lot more work than anything they've worked on so far.

Also TP HD was done by Tantalus.

Re: Nightdive Studios Wants To Remaster Titles Like Eternal Darkness, But Hasn't Had Any Luck With Nintendo

Troll_Decimator

Nintendo simply doesn't trust any developer with their IP. People think it's easy and simple to give them access to it, but there are many reasons why they might not want to cooperate, and not all of them are down to just quality. Confidentiality is also a massive factor. For Eternal Darkness which has been pitched here, it's possible that Nintendo has plans of their own.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Yorumi Those games have had content "cut" in order to release in time. This happens with every single game ever, whether they get updated or not. Some content never makes it to release. They are still complete games without said content. I played Mario Tennis Aces without any updates and it was good enough. Even better with updates, but it's totally fine without.

Also, you are the one that is moving the goalposts, actually, not me. I never said that all the content is on the cart. I said the games are perfectly playable without any updates. There is a difference between the two. Do you need all the content that has ever released for a game to be fully playable? No you don't. If that was the case, then Mario Kart 8 on Wii U would be considered unplayable because it doesn't have the Switch content or the DLC, but the base game itself is perfectly fine.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Jackuu As mentioned, it's the only Nintendo first party IP game that needs a day 1 patch. It is pretty commendable they we had to wait 5 years to get a mandatory day 1 patch. Clearly Nintendo goes out of their way to ensure that if you buy a cartridge, you have a fully playable game in that data, without download required. This Pokémon game is the sole exception and Arceus also did not require a download. Nintendo is THE ONLY platform holder in the entire industry commited to this. And I'm certainly hoping it will remain this way for the eventual Switch 2.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Yorumi That's extra content that was not planned for launch though, you can still play all the content that was at launch without an update. Compare this to getting a game disk for Halo on Xbox which basically only has the entitlement but the game you pretty much have to entirely download on your hard disk to even be able to launch it. The latter is no different to purchasing a digital copy.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Jackuu I'm talking about first party Nintendo games. Other than the gen 4 remakes, which to be fair are made by a 3rd party that had never made a Nintendo game before, I don't think there's a single Nintendo game that requires a patch to experience all the content available. There are some games that have added content with patches or some fixes here and there, but nothing major. Then you've got Link's Awakening which I WISH they would update to iron out the framerate but nope, not a single patch.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Joins Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Troll_Decimator

@Ravenmaster They probably will... But first they have to milk the original version a little bit more. I mean, OoT 3D and MM 3D with a completely reworked UI and some visual upgrades would basically be perfect for the Switch. I would be surprised if it doesn't happen eventually. Maybe towards the end of Switch's life when the schedule will be less packed to fill some first party content gaps. If that's even a thing with the Switch.

Re: GBA Sky Garden Showcased For Mario Kart Tour, Spot The Differences From MK8 Deluxe

Troll_Decimator

@Dingelhopper I think we should allow the sales to speak about whether this is acceptable or not. The market itself will reject this if people don't like it. If people buy it.... Then obviously it isn't a big deal for most.

However, I have to say, in UK you can get this for £16. £16 for 48 tracks is a bit of a steal even if they are literal ports from the N64 and GameCube games, let alone the more recent reworked mobile versions.

Re: GBA Sky Garden Showcased For Mario Kart Tour, Spot The Differences From MK8 Deluxe

Troll_Decimator

@AlexHarford This is not exclusive to Mario Kart. Just looking at the latest Horizon game, the environments are just so damn busy. It's impressive in detail but I just can't keep track of anything on the screen because there's details in every single nook and cranny. I much prefer a more stylized approach. To be fair, MK8 is nowhere near this detailed of course, but I also prefer the simplicity of MK64.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Yorumi Can you please elaborate? I don't think I've played a single Nintendo game that had a mandatory day 1 patch. On the other hand, on Sony and Microsoft consoles, many games are literally unplayable (not using the meme, but actually literally) out of the box without a day 1 patch.

Anyways, personally I buy 99% physical on Switch. I own very few digital games, just to use my Gold points mostly, plus a couple that I really wanted but physical were Limited Run (no interest in those).

Re: Video Game History Foundation Calls Out Nintendo's "Destructive" 3DS & Wii U eShop Closure

Troll_Decimator

@jsty3105 Yup, you hit the nail on the head. Nintendo simply didn't have a long game plan with their infrastructure, which is a bummer to be sure, but nothing to be mad about. Anyone that had used these services should have known this beforehand, I mean, the Wii purchases did not automatically transfer to Wii U. That says it all. Plus, people need to realize all this content is Nintendo's, they can sell it or not sell it whenever they see fit. There are thousands of games available to play in the meanwhile, so just give it some time and they will be on NSO eventually, which is a longer term plan and not going anywhere after Switch.

Re: Random: Here's Steam Deck Running The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin

Troll_Decimator

@Yorumi Uh, yeah, you absolutely own Nintendo's physical games, what are you on about? You just have to understand what owning a game means, i.e. you own the game as a product, not the individual data assets within, those are copyrighted material. Likewise, not allowed to rip and distribute copies of that data. Neither of these mean not owning it.

Patching is a given these days, due to the much higher complexity of modern games, it's pretty much inevitable that some things will escape testing. But Nintendo does a MUCH better job than any other developer out there to have a good version of the game on the cart. I can't remember if a single Nintendo game where I had to download a patch to make it playable. I've only heard about Diamond/Pearl basically requiring a day 1 patch, but I don't own those remakes. Heck, on some games they never even released a patch whatsoever. Just these past few days, I played Pokémon Legends Arceus from start to finish without a single patch.
