Re: Talking Point: Who Is Nintendo Going To Buy? Don't Be Shocked If The Answer Is "Nobody"

@CoffeeWithGames Don't forget that Sega itself somewhat recently bought Atlus. They own lots of studios, including Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive in the UK. It's a rather large entity, I don't know if it's within Nintendo's reach. I mean, they could, but I don't think it would be smart, Sega is too expensive and owns too many "dead" IPs that are overvalued due to historical value.

Honestly, I'd like it if Nintendo bought a few more studios, just to expand their output to more of their catalog. Nothing in the scale of ActiBlizz of course, smaller studios such as Gust, for example. At the moment, F-Zero is not a possibility, not because Nintendo doesn't want to make one, but simply there is no capacity for it, all of their studios are working on higher priority projects. If they owned more studios, they could have a smaller one work on F-Zero.

They could seek out to do this with a 3rd party too, but that complicates things more and 3rd parties prefer to work on more lucrative projects or new IP too. This is exactly what happened with Luigi's Mansion, it isn't that they forgot it exists after Gamecube, they simply didn't have enough studios to work on it, and Next Level Games found the opportunity to become the Luigi's Mansion studio.

Re: Don't Say It Too Loud, But PS5 Has Outsold Wii U In A Year

@ramu-chan But nothing really appealing for a wide audience. Demons Souls, Returnal and Ratchet and Clank, hardly big system sellers. Most people that bought PS5 bought it to play multiplatforms on, as well as for the promise of future titles. If it doesn't start getting some bangers real soon, I wouldn't be surprised if it falls behind.

@ModdedInkling I didn't play the marketing, I played the console. It had very limited appeal, very few worthwhile games. I feel like the only people that appreciated it were either 10 years old when it came out and didn't know any better, or just liked the novelty factor, but other than that it was really Nintendo's worst console to date by quite a wide margin. No amount of marketing could save a console with such an unappealing software lineup.

@Nico07 Indeed, that said, I could see Microsoft increasing GamePass price. At the moment it's just too stupid good value, and it's going to get even better once new Bethesda and ActiBlizz games start rolling out. Realistically, Microsoft will probably do just that, but only once they have secured a lot more subscriptions.

I think once you're in this game of uploading content that is not yours, you are living on borrowed time, and that's exactly why the guy that owns the channel is being level headed about it. At least he was decent enough not to monetize it, so I have absolutely no problem with his channel. Maybe Nintendo intends to make some of these legally available somehow.

Re: Team17 Confirms An End To Its 'MetaWorms' NFT Project

The thing is, if Ubisoft is doing NFTs, we can at least assume they will be implemented in a way that will offer at least some service that might be worthwhile even if NFTs were not necessary for it. But Team 17? Just a tiny company in comparison that doesn't have an ecosystem to speak of. What is the point of developing NFTs other than to make a quick buck? Of course Ubisoft wants it for money too, but they are in it for the long haul, it is not an outright get rich quick scam.

@Brydontk Yes, making a game world look amazing from a distance on hardware like Switch is pretty much an exercise in futility. Unreal 5 streamlines this with their virtual geometry tech, but in older hardware you either need farm of slave-wage workers creating assets that look perfect from any distance, or it just ain't happening. Frankly, not worth the time and money for most developers, unless the game is 100% focused on the flying experience of course. That said, it would be nice if they at least swapped the water material at a higher distance, the tiling effect looks quite bad. But oh well, very minor thing.

@FaroreAbhorsen I honestly don't think this would work very well. I mean, the scale of Ocarina of Time does not lend itself to a realistic version, it's just too small, like a shoebox. A 1:1 recreation with a more stylized art style like in OoT 3D, which is not realistic by any means, fits a lot better in my opinion. What would be nice to see though would be to remove the scene transitions and have the entire world be seamless, even if they keep the same scale.
