Re: Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition Shows Off Optional Upgrades

@Wargoose Look, as I said, I have no problem with the changes, I didn't like them enough to justify it, but that is not the issue with the game. Its level design and pace is the problem. Too much filler content. I have no intention to replay it, it's a crawl. They tried to inflate the runtime too much with pointless detours. It would be much better if it was 10 hours long. The original game was banger after banger, no filler.

I do agree that it's the best FF since PS2 days, but that says more about FF 11-15 more than this game. It isn't bad, but "not bad" is something that should never go next to FF7. The original is a stone cold classic masterpiece.

@lordzand He is actually speaking for a lot of people. The remake was an intense disappointment, and I am not talking about the story or combat changes they made, but from an actual basic game design standpoint. The combat was the only passable element in that regard.

You say it's better than the original, but how can that be true when the content essentially boils down to just constant unnecessary filler with no rhyme or reason to any of it, and the level design consists of constantly running down corridors, or following someone really slowly?

The original had variety and little to no fat. This is 90% fat and 10% substance. It constantly disrespects the players time. I am definitely not going to play it ever again because of that reason. I won't even bother getting into the completely unnecessary story changes, it fails on a basic level as a game before we even have to worry about any story beats.

Re: Review: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue - Cloud Version - The Heart's Just Not In It

Troll_Decimator

I'm going to be honest, these games are not worth playing even if they were not cloud based. Probably the most needlessly convoluted plot in the history of the medium. The gameplay is nothing to write home about for today's standards, either. Unlike turn based JRPGs, these don't hold up that well. They had some fun novelty back in the day because of the crossover with Disney, but that's about it.

Re: PSA: Get All The Harvest Moon Games Before The 3DS And Wii U eShops Close

Troll_Decimator

@Burning_Spear Yup, that's exactly my point. The makers were a very minor part of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games before Stardew Valley, and they were instant, no waiting time involved. I would have no problem with them if they were instant. The moment they add a timer, it means you need multiple of each. This is a problem in both PoOT and Stardew Valley despite them taking less space in the latter. It's just a ton of extra busywork that was really unnecessary in a game that already has plenty of things to do.

Re: PSA: Get All The Harvest Moon Games Before The 3DS And Wii U eShops Close

Troll_Decimator

@KateGray "I think going from Stardew to some of the older games will be a bit of a stark difference"
Is it, though? The "maker" nonsense in Stardew (and also PoOT unfortunately) made a game that is already basically busywork into busywork AND waiting. If that was Stardew's contribution to the genre, it can kindly remove itself. All the Harvest Moon games are better than Stardew Valley, as awesome as SV is for a game made by one person.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask Joins Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Troll_Decimator

@blindsquarel Do you really love it if you say it isn't worth $50? For me, it is absolutely a priceless experience, I would even pay $1000 for a hard copy if I had to. I understand if you are broke, obviously other things come first, but if you have money to spare, not all games have equal value. If any given bland, generic and lifeless open world game is worth $60 or $70, Majora's Mask is absolutely worth 10 times that at minimum. It's truly an inspirational experience and a real work of art. The inspiration alone is worth the price of admission and then some. Look at Outer Wilds and The Forgotten City, two amazing games that would have never been made without Majora's Mask.

Re: Soapbox: A Week After Jailing One Pirate, Nintendo Just Made Piracy A Reality For Countless Fans

Troll_Decimator

@Jokerwolf Except for that to be possible, governments would have to implement a system in which they adopt ownership of a certain ecosystem once the company involved just can't or doesn't want to upkeep it anymore. There are a million reasons why such a thing is not currently available. Legislation and lots of effort would need to go towards that.

However, even with that in place, physical media will always be superior when it comes to ownership and value. There's a reason why digital AAA games with dozens of millions of dollars in budget these days cost like $1-5, or are given away for free even, yet their physical counterparts are more often than not multiple times the price. Physical goods are actually valuable. Data is just data, it has no inherent value, only perceived, and apparently even the perceived is not much, judging by the numbers.

Re: Soapbox: A Week After Jailing One Pirate, Nintendo Just Made Piracy A Reality For Countless Fans

Troll_Decimator

@Jokerwolf Obviously, but I still prefer physical. Digital games inherently cheapen the product and make it just vague "content", especially if we are looking at subscription services. Not that buying digital games is much better, though, your entire library could be gone in a snap. I have thousands of digital games, because they were cheap, I have zero attachment to any of them.

Re: Taking Part In The Nintendo Switch Sports Online Playtest? Make Sure You Keep Your Mouth Shut

Troll_Decimator

@RupeeClock It's a free play test isn't it? So what do you mean? The game is still under development, and they have very clearly underlined the reason why they are doing this play test: to help them polish up the game (mainly the controls) and catch any bugs their QA didn't find, so prohibiting people from sharing stuff until it's fully wrapped up and ready to be shipped is entirely logical. I don't think Nintendo is delusional enough to think people won't still share it, they are just trying to minimize it.

Re: Soapbox: NSO Isn't Game Pass, But Nintendo Is Learning The Benefits Of Subscription Models

Troll_Decimator

I don't want it to become GamePass. I want to continue buying hard copies of my games without feeling like I'm getting shafted compared to people that are just paying £15 per month and getting everything. As great as GamePass is, it devalues games as an art and turns them into pointless Netflix or Disney style "content". It's different for legacy titles, obviously they won't be in print forever, but I hope they never do this with entire new games.
