Re: Cosmic Star Heroine Dev Explains Its "Frustrating" Experience Working With Nintendo

TimLatshaw

@teixeiras There's a difference between "getting an okay number of reviews" and being poorly reviewed.

The Switch version of this game is currently a 78 on Metacritic; not shabby. http://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/cosmic-star-heroine

I think the creator is pointing more toward the fact that there are only 8 reviews for this title on Metacritic right now. That's not great exposure.

Re: Metacritic's 'Best Video Games' Feature Highlights Quiet Year for Nintendo

@abbyhitter "That's sad that a Picross game is the highest rated 3DS game of 2016. Critics are obviously stupid"

So when critics are rating a game, you want them to hold it up against every other game that has been rated that year so far? Or they should rate certain genres higher than others because oh no, what if that game ends up on an arbitrary list? How embarrassing!

Re: Review: B3 Game Expo For Bees (Wii U eShop)

@Aerona You are queen of the bee puns!

@Assassinated I wanted more, but not just in length of game; also in the variety of things to do and challenge. I had some fun, but still think a 5 is an apt score. Other's opinions may vary, of course, and I'm not displeased that there are people here thinking about giving the game a chance.

(Edit: Also thank you for reading the content and applying your own interpretation of it to your view of this game and the score I gave. I appreciate that a lot, even if you might disagree with the number I gave!)

To everyone worrying about C&D, do you think stuff like The Gaming Historian, Boss Fight Books, or half the documentaries on anything we see today would exist if you had to ask permission from the subjects of them?

"Oh sure, Mr. Moore. We'd love to see your documentary on our industry. Can't wait to see what you come out with!"

Re: Famitsu Reveals New Rival for Ace Attorney 6

@Nego Yep. The only reason I brought gender up at all is because the translation uses "she/he" and "his/her." Just leaving that without any mention, I felt, would have brought up even more questions and speculation than there are now.

Re: Video: Watch The Epic Pokémon Super Bowl Commercial Right Here

TimLatshaw

I have to say I like it, and it's got a good message.

We all know it's a Pokémon commercial, but the average Super Bowl viewer may initially not. There are some subtle clues in the first part of the commercial that some may pick up on, but the payload comes in the latter half that yeah, this is actually a commercial for Pokémon.

This is sort of a commercial for the current Pokémon fan, but I feel it's geared more toward the people who initially played it in the '90s, but fell off as they grew older. Nearly all the references apply to Gen 1, and it's no coincidence that the commercial ends with a knowing parent telling their kid they could get in on this too. It's practically screaming, "Remember when you thought this was cool, mom and dad? It still is, and the kids you now have could love it too!" It's not advertising specific, upcoming products because it's advertising the whole concept of Pokémon and its lasting power. The droves and droves of games and merchandise practically sell themselves after that. That's how I take it, at least.

Re: Feature: Our Top Wii U Games - Third Anniversary Edition

TimLatshaw

@ULTRA-64 Since you asked, here was my list:

1. Splatoon
2. Super Smash Bros.
3. Mario kart 8
4. Super Mario 3D World
5. Super Mario Maker
6. Affordable Space Adventures
7. Guacamelee
8. Shovel Knight
9. DK Tropical Freeze
10. Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien

To be honest, though, I had a complete mental slip and forgot about Child of Light. Had I not forgotten it, it would've definitely made my list, probably around mid-pack.

Re: Review: Typoman (Wii U eShop)

TimLatshaw

@gurtifus Thank you for letting me know you're out there. I will try to keep non-native English speakers like you more in mind when needed during reviews. : )

@Humphries90 The Typoman banner on your homepage currently links to your Word Party review, but I still read your take on Typoman in the reviews section. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, because there's absolutely brilliant stuff in it.

Re: Review: Typoman (Wii U eShop)

TimLatshaw

@GeminiSaint That said, however, and after a bit of thought, it would likely be worth mentioning that there are no ways to convert the game into other languages. I will have to add that.

Re: Review: Typoman (Wii U eShop)

TimLatshaw

@GeminiSaint Because you would need to be able to read English to understand that the review is telling you you can't understand the game if you can't read English.
