Re: Russian Phenomenon Tetris Celebrates Its 30th Birthday Today

TimLatshaw

My great-uncle was a Tetris fanatic. Whenever I saw him, he'd always be playing it on his Game Boy. His kids had bought him other games, but I never saw him play them. It was Tetris or nothing.

He would let me play when he wasn't engaged in clearing lines, which is one of the earliest memories I have playing videogames. He had literally worn the anti-slip pads on the D-pad off, making it a completely smooth surface. He also kept his high score on a small slip of paper taped just below the screen.

My great-uncle passed away years ago, and I never thought until it was too late to ask my great-aunt if she still had that Game Boy. Unfortunately, she had long since given it away. I wish I had that thing, or at least knew the old man's last high score.

@Beechbone @Ricube You use the D-pad to control Igniculus with the Wii Remote, held horizontally. When I said the style was similar to Mario Galaxy, I meant the manner in which Igniculus helps Aurora (i.e. collecting items and freezing enemies).

@Dark-Link73 It's sort of a mix, in that position on the track determines turn order, but choices can change speed and order in real-time. If you've seen the "active time" systems in games like Chrono Trigger, it's close to that.

Re: BurgerTime World Tour Meats its End on WiiWare 30th April

@C-Olimar @TG1 @Mystemo I've finally been able to check myself, and it is still 1,000 points for me as well. Still trying to figure out whether my source confirming 500 means different things in different areas or was a mistake or what. I've reached out to MonkeyPaw and will update this story once I receive a response.

Again, many thinks for bringing this to my attention! I always want to be accurate here.

@boynerdrambling From the statement in this story: "That doesn't include PAX East this year, but we will offer our fans a variety of opportunities to get their hands on Nintendo products in 2014."

Re: Zero Escape Series Director Struggling to Find Funding for Third Title

@DarkKirby I don't think he's ashamed of a Kickstarter. It's a possibility, but it looks like a company would have to be set up in another country to do so, as it doesn't look like a Kickstarter project can be based in Japan at this time. This is likely why Mighty No. 9's project is based from comcept USA.

I may be wrong about this, however. Have to check a bit more.

UPDATE: I do notice some Kickstarter projects have been based in Japan, so this is somewhat puzzling now. The director initially believed he couldn't do it: https://twitter.com/Uchikoshi_Eng/status/434226590533185536

It may be a factor of presenting an English Kickstarter page, after digging a little more. Either way, it seems some work would have to be done or connections made to get on Kickstarter but, like I said, it's still a possibility one way or another.

Re: Pokémon X & Y Beta Competition Coming to Global Link in February

TimLatshaw

@Retro_on_theGo The wording of the announcement doesn't say anything about registration involving participation in a previous tournament; just that some have already qualified through their rankings on the Global Showdown. However, the specific details for registering on Jan. 31 have not been given, so there's still a possibility they'll require that, I suppose. Would seem a bit rotten to not tell people of that beforehand, though.

@hlime You are right about the screenshots. It looks like we were given the wrong shots to work with, unfortunately, and will be trying to get shots that better represent the Wii U version.

@XCWarrior The uncertainty made you check though, didn't it. ; )
