Re: Soapbox: When Is The Next 'Big' Nintendo Direct? Oh, Does It Really Matter Anymore?

Thundertron55

I honestly prefer Directs over these random trailer drops because you don't know what it is you're getting. I compare Directs to presents. In a Direct the gifts(trailers) are wrapped up and you don't know what you're getting. When we have these shadow drops It's like your mom walking up to you handing you something and saying, "Here ya go. Have fun." There is much more excitement and hype created over a game if you don't know what to expect. If they never bring back Directs they should at least treat these shadow drops like they did w/Fire Emblem: SDatBoL and make the reveal ambiguous rather than stating exactly what it is like Paper Mario: TOK and HW:AoC.

Re: Poll: Pokémon Sword And Shield Launched A Year Ago, Has Your Opinion On Them Changed?

Thundertron55

@HenHiro I understand completely why older fans hate Sw/Sh. They feel that the challenge has been taken away, that they aren't putting as much time into the games, and that the dex got cut in half. I totally agree with the challenge argument. Gen 8 is a cake walk while White, my favorite game, is tough as nails. I also think that the dex cut was gonna happen sooner or later. But, when it comes to development time, the team had the same development cycle as the previous Gens, being an average 3 years. I can imagine creating a console game that is top of the line in 3 years is difficult let alone your first console game in that series. Sw/Sh is missing all these features because of it's short development cycle. If the game was given an extra 2 years it would probably look way better, have all the Pokemon, have a better story and an increased difficulty. I hope that The Pokemon Company takes the criticism to heart and let Game Freak take the time they need to create the next Generation and I believe they will. But, this stuff happens when a beloved franchise is owned by a company focused on selling plushes and other merch. As a Transformers fan I know this feeling all too well.

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

Thundertron55

I still wish I was able to get one. I was stuck with my Wii until 2018 and I finally was able to get a Switch. One of my favorite Wii U memories is when my mom's workplace got a Wii U w/3D World and Nintendoland and I played it that whole summer. One of the best summers I've ever had.

For me personally It was my first true Pokemon game. I had previously dabbled in Black + White but Sw/Sh was the first game I bought and the first I beat. As an introduction to the series it was great. It had everything it needed to pull in a new fan to the games. But now that I have played previous entries in the series, being White and Moon, I do see flaws in it such as the story and graphics but I still feel that this game was a test/proof of concept for console Pokemon games that had to be released b/c of time restrictions. I'm hopeful for the future of the series on Switch and am personally hoping for a remake of Black and White.

Re: Review: Transformers: Battlegrounds - Accessible Turn-Based Action That's For Noobs Only

Thundertron55

I really hope the Transformers can make a big comeback some day. I really love the franchise, but it seems that Hasbro's prioritization of toys and quick cash grabs really harm the series. They need to give the series to creators who have a passion for the Transformers and create movies and games with stories that the fans will love and not something that Hasbro can market for a new line of toys.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Wii Games

Thundertron55

We have gotten to my introductory console! I love the Wii and a lot of it's games. Getting my Wii and playing games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and Wii Sports Resort solidified my love for Nintendo content and video games in general. The Wii was what kickstarted my video game journey and I don't regret a single moment.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

Thundertron55

I don't think cloud gaming is the future and I hope that physical media doesn't go either. While digital games are more convenient, they cost more in the long run. Games keep on getting bigger and external memory cards keep getting more expensive. In a few years, that 1TB hard drive will be eaten up really quick and you'll be forced to go buy an external drive half the price of your console. W/physical media, the only thing you need to worry about is updates and DLC. Which, generally, don't take up as much space. So, as the years go by and new consoles are introduced, I will stay with the console that chooses physical; and if all consoles stop offering physical, I will be done w/gaming.

Side note: Another reason I prefer physical game over digital is that you actually own the game and not a license to download it. 15 to 20 years down the road when the Nintendo Switch eShop closes people with the digital ver. of BotW who haven't re-downloaded it on their Switch won't be able to play it. But I, with my cartridge, will be happily sitting on my couch beating up Calamity Ganon for the trillionth time.

Re: Hands On: Is Genshin Impact The Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Clone Fans Thought It Was?

Thundertron55

I played the game yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The combat feels good, the overworld is expansive and, even on my terrible PC, the game looks really good! My only problems with the game is the gatcha system and the 'fan service'. I won't get into the second point but the gatcha system makes it to where you are stuck w/terrible party members. For example, I didn't care all that much for bows and magic tomes; but the only characters you get with the Pyro and Electro elements wield the bow and tome respectively. The only way to get characters with the other weapon types is to do a "Wish" and hope you get the character that you want. Otherwise, this is a pretty good F2P game.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Mario Game?

Thundertron55

@Tonyo I believe Galaxy 2 is better than Galaxy because, in my opinion, the level design and music is leagues better than the first. Galaxy 1's music is amazing, but Galaxy 2's takes what the original did and made it so much better. SMG's music felt like a grand, epic and refined adventure through the outer reaches of space while SMG2's felt like an amazing experience filled with wonder and surprise. It felt like how a Mario game in space should sound.

While SMG had a few of those songs like Super Mario 2007 and Blue Sky Athletics, the majority feels a little less like Mario. In comparison, the majority of SMG2's OST feels like a ride that won't stop. You can't help but hum along to its music and smile whenever you hear it. Examples being Puzzle Plank Galaxy, Sky Station Galaxy, Yoshi Star Galaxy, and Spin Dig Galaxy. Even some songs from the previous game get a face lift that makes it feel more joyous.

The best way to see what I'm talking about is to listen and compare the two games Overtures. SMG's is grand and sounds melancholy like the cold empty vacuum of space while still giving off a hint of mysticism. On the other hand, SMG2's Overture sounds triumphant, then slows down to show that this is still SMG with the emptiness of space, but it has the strings in the background that give the song a more triumphant ‘welcome back to the galaxy’ type feeling; making you more excited to see what fun the game has in store for you.

Then, there are the Power-Ups introduced into the game like the Cloud Flower and Yoshi that expand the gameplay and made room for so many new ideas. Plus, the game is harder than the original and I love some challenge in my Mario games.

Overall, in my opinion, Super Mario Galaxy 2 took near perfection and perfected it. Creating a masterpiece that I, and many others, will enjoy for many years to come.

*Note that this is all my personal opinion. People may disagree with me but what I say is how I see the games and is what makes them special to me. My opinion isn't wrong just like your opinion isn't wrong.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Paper Mario Game?

Thundertron55

Origami King is the first Paper Mario game I've ever played and I am loving the story and writing. I also don't mind the lack of exp and I love how the battles are puzzles. The only thing I dislike is the bosses. They can be really confusing sometimes.
