"we will continue to investigate and adjust the online"
TRANSLATION: "I missed the part where that was my problem."
Online is beyond saving until they bring in rollback or something.
@Kalmaro PSSSSSSHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHA Good one buddy! Yeah what does Smash Bros think it is? A FIGHTING game?
Seriously the online in this game only makes me more excited for the new Guilty Gear
Betcha they patched the T-pose. I got it to happen once by accident, so go ahead and patch it out.
At least we finally know Nintendo's lineup for the rest of 2020 and how they will compete with the PS5 and Series X this holiday season...
SMALL BATTLEFIELD, BABY!!!
And on that day, billions of Switch consoles were sold around the world, and Nintendo received the nobel peace prize.
Come on 8.2 with even smaller battefield or Small BATTLEFIELD EX+ or (adjective) (insert your own Battlefield name). Either way, time to go try it.
Online ***** sucks in this game. I felt like a change from 1v1 so I tried 2v2 team and all it found me was 1v1 and 2v2 free for all. Plus the lag is just ***** unbearable. Arenas are it's only saving grace.
sakurai posted something about 1 on 1 battles..
@TheFrenchiestFry Man, even mainstream fighting games can't get rollback for some reason and when they do, it's bad. Like SFV.
I just don't get why devs don't implement it. It's practically required for online.
Won't fix online. Many games at least did.
Won't fix broken characters. Overwatch tried to.
Removes a platform and deems it a "new" stage.
That's what treating a director like he's some celebrity gets you.
@Kalmaro I wasn't even aware SFV was using rollback. The online experience was so mixed I just thought it was using the same general netcode as other recent Capcom fighting games at that time like UMvC3 ot SSFIV. If that was meant to be rollback that's a pretty pitiful implementation because I don't notice any difference compared to last-gen Capcom fighters. MvCI actually unironically had way better online by comparison.
Stage wise this is cool. It means they might surprise us with something down the line. Personally I am hoping for a boss rush with Tabuu, Porky, and maybe even DJ Octavio.
As much as there is to love about SSBU, it's hindered by some significant flaws: overall bad online experience, questionable mechanics like forced short-hop aerials without the ability to toggle them off, the deeply frustrating buffer system, etc.
SSBU has the potential to easily be the best Super Smash Bros. game, but it's not without its issue; most (if not all) of which can be fixed, and I hope we do see them fixed one day.
@TheFrenchiestFry https://shoryuken.com/2018/07/26/street-fighter-v-netcode-decoded-capcoms-online-system-introduces-artificial-lag-between-users/
It's a thing.
In fact, when playing online in SFV, you can actually tell when someone is mashing at times by noticing if the game lags a little when they are waking up, thus tipping you that they are trying to hit you.
I wish I was making this up.
Wow, the "Small Battlefield" addition is really appreciated. I mean, it's pretty much just PS2, but it's great to have another neutral option in rotation.
Also, expanding music choices for the BF/FD stages is also huge plus~
I wish they'd overhaul the matchmaking (it's never been a problem getting what I want 99% of the time), but at least lowering the Elite threshold gets them out of that area that makes the FFAs and Items-On matches less likely for others who have trouble maintaining a high enough GSP.
I doubt we're going to see rollback in Ultimate any time, unless the Switch magically becomes powerful enough to handle predictions for the inputs of four players simultaneously, on top of everything else on the screen. Even Slippi's Melee solution, awesome as it is, requires a gaming-quality PC with multiple times the Gamecube's power brute-forcing it through an emulator overlay, and at that for just two players.
The competitive scene is dead
This is the Cringiest Nintendo Life comment section of 2020 so far.
@Cosats Nintendos psychological warfare finally grinded everyone down
I mean what the heck is wrong with Nintendo acknowledging they are working on improving Ultimate's online to the best of their ability
@Not_Soos They don't need to "combat" PS5 and Series X. It's honestly insane that I have to read these kind of posts in the internet when the demand for the Switch has been insane for months. Even if Nintendo had absolutely nothing on the next months, the console still would sell greatly with its bundles, gaming catalogue and the marketing it has.
Switch isn't competing with those two consoles and it doesn't need to sell more than those but to continue to perform well, which it will.
And why do you even care and comment in that way when you obviously don't have any sense about finances?
All I want is Smash Run back, online could still suck and I wouldn't even care but an online Smash Run would be fantastic.
We've come this far in the updates, giving us a free stage albeit very minimum work and expanded it's stage category music library, and yet they've not enabled the original Ground Theme of Super Mario Bros. 3 track to be accessible even though all of the other Ground Themes are present. It's in the games files for crying out loud. It really bugs me.
@AlexanderDaniels Now that you mention it.. Yeah, we have the remixes, but not the original theme of SMB3. Kinda bizarre it's the only Ground Theme omitted. Hard to justify the name 'Ultimate' with such a easy oversight since launch. I really like the classic theme too, that sucks. It was in Smash 4.
A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one.
I despise Battlefield but this small edition might actually be fun to play online.
I'll try it out once I save my replays.
@Nemesis666 I was just trying to make a lighthearted joke because of all the memes I've seen about Nintendo's 2020 lineup. Didn't mean for you to take it to heart.
@Cosats yeah, this is Wii U era of bad comments on this site.
@Not_Soos make it clear NINTENDO ISNT LOOKING TO COMPETE THEY DONT WANT TO BE #1 NOR DO THEY CARE. every nintendo fan knows this sony and microsoft can continue to fight while nintendo does their thing. stop.
@Not_Soos well I got it and thought your comment was hilarious! Well done
when are they going to fix Min Min being ridiculously OP?
As I can see, there's still no option for playing with someone at home, against friends online... I just can't believe they'll never add that option, when it was possible on the WiiU.
The online on this game is so dissapointing... It's worse than before, but hey, now we have to pay for it. Meh!
Super Stable..
@Scottwood101 What parallel universe do you hail from where Min Min is "ridiculously OP?"
@Dr_Corndog I'm probably using a bad match up, my character is Ganon who's norotiously slow. But there is zero down time between Min Min being able to attack and then dodge. Me and my brother are both part of the Elite mode online so we aren't bad players. When we play each other it's just impossible to land an attack. I can read his moves well and know when to time a block or dodge but then there's zero opportunity to counter as he can just roll away to distance. There should always be a reward and an opportunity to counter yet there is rarely one. Again- perhaps a bad example and my win rate is pretty much 50% at the minute which is fair enough. But yeah, she's fast, she's powerful, up smash trumps Ganon's down+B move, her down smash covers either side of her. Ridiculous
This hilarious video proves why aswell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ750TniBB0
they also lowered the required GSP needed for getting into elite smash, my pika and zss were not in elite before the patch, but suddenly were after it
@Scottwood101 All DLC characters were OP when they were added to the game (less balanced) And all of them got nerfed.
@Scottwood101 That sounds more like an issue with online, then. Everything's a little harder to react to online than off. And Ganon's not a good character for fast reactions, either.
Down-B from above doesn't sound like the sort of attack you should be using very often, at any rate. It's slow to start up and has tremendous endlag. I'd think short-hop Nairs and Dairs would be better options, mixing it up with tomahawk grabs. (Just my thoughts; I'm not a Ganon main.)
Now that I think about it, this is probably a really bad match-up for Ganon, too. Not much to do about that.
@sanderev Are you thinking about Smash 4? Cloud and Bayonetta were notoriously OP when they were introduced (Bayonetta was never really fixed), but there hasn't been an issue in Ultimate with OP DLC character so far.
Sadly puff did not get buffed
@beazlen1 Haha, thanks! I quit commenting on this site for months, and I'm seriously considering stopping again because even what I think is the most inoffensive post always gets misconstrued and someone starts attacking me. Glad you enjoyed it, though!
@NintendoPok Again, it was just a joke for laughs and not meant for anyone to take personally. Just because Nintendo's PR department said that during the failing Wii U to look better to their shareholders doesn't mean it's true, though. Sure, Nintendo has proven they can work well with other console manufacturers like Microsoft. But they literally had a monopoly over the gaming industry in the 80's, and financial failures like the Wii U seriously hurt the company's morale, so if course they want to remain competitively viable.
@jtmnm What is this forced short-hop aerials you are talking about?
@backup368 Overwatch tried to fix characters? Lmfao. Ana would like a word with you.
@Alztru I assume they mean the button combo that lets you do a short hop attack. I dunno why they'd consider this a negative, or need it to be toggled off when you could just not push those buttons though, so u may be wrong.
The heck is wrong with this comment section?
@TalesOtaco The short hop aerial buffer prevents you from buffering a full hop aerial, making it more difficult to consistently full hop aerial.
This is a cool little update, definitely came out of nowhere.
I just hope that one day they add in the ability to fight against CPU's in Battle Arenas in a 2v2 match, like you could in Smash Wii U's Online when you created a Room.
@TalesOtaco @Alztru
@Mateo_El_Goron explained the issue perfectly. I'll follow and provide a character example demonstrating how this design choice obstructs gameplay.
I play Falco, and one of his main kill confirms is up-tilt to back-air. Sometimes, a full-hop aerial (or however close you can get to actually pulling off a full-hop aerial) is required to make the confirm. Due to short-hop aerial being forced when you press the jump button and an attack input within a set amount of frames, you find yourself fighting the controls to make basic confirms. Missing a kill because of the forced short-hop aerial mechanic is always frustrating.
The implementation was obviously a result of good intentions. The developers were wise enough to understand the necessity of short-hop aerials to create a shortcut input, but, in doing so, they turned a handicap into an irritating obstruction for more experienced players. The lack of a toggle for this is curious, to say the least.
@Mateo_El_Goron @jtmnm Ok. I never understood why they didn't just make one of the jump buttons a short hop and the other one a full hop. I guess it is to seperate the pros from the noobs since it takes quite a bit of skill to master.
Saw this news on GameXplain this morning. I did NOT expect this... at all... but I will welcome it with open arms!
Small Battlefield broke my amiibo, & I got a 3 stock on it. Thanks Sakurai lol.
