Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

ThrowMeBarrel

i think its very sad news and ironically the passing of a true nintendo legend has brought about a sense of accomplishment and strength within nintendos brand rather than the recent backlash over not being like what the other brands are doing in the market.

Nintendo has always been first and foremost about the fun games , the continuous values of fun and leisure within the brand have been stronger than ever thanks to iwata and the team staying together with passion and belief in their material and not selling themselves out which many companies and people do these days just for rep. The young players will not understand but their was a time without good mobile phones, high speed internet etc and carts and cassettes were our media platform, look back even to 2000 and to think we can play the type of games we can portable now on a tiny sd card and in 3d is just truly amazing in achievement alone, take a step back and realise how complex it is to fit all that game in a tiny sd cart and you can truly see the dedication, skill and passion of iwata and nintendo , even until the very end .

Im not a big gamer anymore but i hope nintendo continue to stay true to their ideas and lets not forget most of us pre snes era grew up as kids on nintendo , the next gen of kids need to experience these games and look back in the future with memories of great times playing nintendo, its not just about the adults or core crowd.
Respect the brand and vision, everyone involved in the business of nintendo loves games too or else why commit life and tireless work to the industry? Iwata will stay with us through nintendos passion and spirit, its a sad day but iwata has done his time with pride and love for his life and work , not bad at all iwata, well done, maybe we will catch up one day , until then rest in peace.

myself and others have been critical as of late due to some of nintendos decisions in reaction to a changing market but if you taje a step back and think about things for a moment nintendo are the only company who stay true to values and design as a company, the rest has resorted to shallow and gimmick shock factor to sell products a long time ago, i guess the greatest success is retaining the fun and accessibility for everybody throughout the years and not losing what games should really be about in peoples lives. I do think nintendo need to retain some more adult orientated content but lets not forget we grew up playing nintendo as kids, lets allow the kids of this day to have their own lasting memories and in that sense nintendo and iwata have thoroughly succeeded in their goal, well done for the hard work, vision and commitment during your time iwata, truly an iconic figure in games. RIP

@darth2d2 well there has been a bunch of aaa games which were very cleverly Marketed even if they turned out crap in the end aka watch dogs, resi6,tomb raider, every call of duty game, even still the effort put into these games are still shown and in comparison still makes nintendo 1st party games look like they should be next to the fisher price toys isle.

Re: Gunpei Yokoi Discusses The Struggle To Make The Game Boy In One Of His Last Interviews

he has such a strong point, this is the big difference between the west and asian gaming trends, gamers in the west are now so core they forget the reason they are even playing so hard and just want the next biggest best and most realistic thing because marketing has fed raw power and graphics into the minds of the masses. The american market is mostly to blame as they are massively overhyping and marketing gaming until the pressure is high to produce next gen like quality even when its clear the majority of devs do not have the budget to keep up and i am european by the way and this poisonous marketing attitude has also effected the european market because in the west its all we see thus we do what americans do rather than asia. I think the current market is crazy because its now turning games into disposable franchises rather than games with unique qualities, flaws and quirks which gave them soul and a lasting memory in the first place. We dont need remakes of old games in a more realistic nature, we like the old games for what they were at the time, make an entirely new game so we can look back in ten years and say oh yeah do you remember this game on the 3ds/wiiu etc, where do you go once you have achieved ultra realism? interactive films aka not games. In terms of current hardware, nintendo need to revise or kill the wiiu its a total anomaly , the price is too high for just a game machine for families in this current day,did nobody tell nintendo half of eu is in recession crisis? Its also priced too high as a genuine gift for kids for x mas when tablets cost like 1/4 the price and play free games, kids dont care about quality, which comes back to my point, adults are the audience because they are buying the high price machines, the games need to appeal to the adults who have beem through the various eras and need to be new,not groundbreaking graphics but simply new with imagination, splatoon is more like it, now bring splatoon to 3ds with less graphics it will sell big time, its the ideas that count, not the power.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

@IceClimbers 50mil 3ds consoles sold but the problem is hardly any support and software, in the west we have about 10 physical releases to look forward too in a year, more than half of those might not be of personal interest , most are now aimed solely at young players. Go back to ds and even gba there were hundreds of games and still quite a few releases even torwards the end of lifespan , we now have digital download there is no excuse for lack of content its like nintendo are trying to slowly finish the system but it makes no sense given they just released a new 3ds.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

ThrowMeBarrel

Super Nintendo 2!!! Serious nintendo just need to go back to their roots with the name and the gates will flood open , wii u doesnt sound like something you want to buy in the first place , the trick is in the marketing and hype of the brand name, it needs to sound like its an evolution of the brand, everybody knows the snes, everybody would want a snes 2 , the hype would be strong and tons of devs will want to jump in on the system simply out of the iconic value of the snes name and logo. Nintendos problem is they have accepted defeat already without a fight but they have all the best cards its just the ones holding them are too scared to put them all down on the table against the big hitters, its obvious nintendo have bottled it under pressure by going down the casual family friendly route as an excuse ,except mobile already has that base covered and now nintendo are exposed out in the open with no place to go and no more places to hide

Re: Nintendo Isn't Talking About NX Because It Doesn't Want Rivals To Steal Its Ideas

ThrowMeBarrel

judging by the comments it seems people who are asking for the same power and specs as the other consoles are older mature gamers fed up of only seeing gradual improvements to the games and lack of big 3rd party releases, however, this doesnt mean the games which are available are not fun, if nintendo were to go in the same direction i think they would lose their originality , its all good impressing 3rd party devs but peeps who want shooters and sim drivers are always going to choose the other consoles so nintendo would just be playing a cat and mouse chase whilst losing the ground they have built up over the years. The wiiu has some amazing games i dont know why people are complaining , how much more do you want, i think nintendo seriously need to cut the price of the console though as its not within a friendly price range for people who are interested but not sure, peeps wont just blow £250 on anything these days unless its a guarantee it will be good value and last for a while. When the wiiu went on sale at £125 in the uk they were out of stock everywhere within a few days and this was for the 8gb model ,peeps are interested but wont pay through the roof.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

ThrowMeBarrel

Interesting that they release a new 3ds but yet no new content in plans that would really maximise it , what was the point? also i mean if there is any time to show what the future holds this is it , nintendo straight dumped any hype for the rest of the year, it also shows that nintendo are clearly far behind the times and proves why n was dumped by most third party devs , if i was nintendo i would announce a new console and soon, why wait and waste money they cant afford to lose because nobody is going to rush out and get the wiiu now and the 3ds game releases are so slow most lose hype and interest.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th November (Europe)

ThrowMeBarrel

Do nintendo even want me to keep my 3ds? £40 for a new download game ? there are games almost 3 years old still at £40 which in merica is about $65 and do they really think anybody would pay that much over there either? I haven't seen a discount on a big title or nintendo exclusive in so long, most discounts are indie games and even then are hardly justified as discounts. Nintendo if they had any respect should have discounted eshop games long before the announcement of the new 3ds as a thank you for people supporting the older models especially since older games we can now only play as standard because newer games will be using the power of the newer console. The other thing is I mean what happened to games like the guild series from level 5 on eshop? Do we need to see another atlus dungeon crawler which look the same as almost every other atlus game since 2008? If it wasn't for the guild series, tamadotchi and project zone I would have no reason to keep my 3ds right now as its getting pretty generic in terms of genres and similar games.

Re: Sonic Boom Wii U And 3DS Both Stall Outside Of The UK Multiformat Top 40

ThrowMeBarrel

This serves sega right , I'm completely sick of sega they have nothing good left going for them now they have abandoned the yakuza series in the west for crap like this. Sonic was good at the time back in the 90s and thats where it should stay , sonic boom is a terrible game and yet another reason why sonic should take a long holiday before coming back with an amazing game rather than being used and abused on a regular basis as a greedy money making venture , infact the whole frequency of poor sonic games has ruined sonic to a point of no turning back. The gameplay is awful, graphics awful, characters annoying and whiney like little babies rather than being badass like in the 90s cartoon series. Sega you are already trying your best not to waste money on the west so if this is all you can give us then leave us alone.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th November (Europe)

ThrowMeBarrel

Why do nintendo believe that we would much rather play gba games on big screen rather than on the 3DS? Do nintendo live in upsidedown land , also why the lack of 3ds announcements? Do they believe announcing like 3 games most of which are old ports for is enough to satisfy everyone? What if we don't want to play zelda or other ports again? I'm mad because I didn't buy a 3ds for nostalgia , I want to play entirely new games and they are not fooling me with nostalgia releases.

Re: Talking Point: The Majora's Mask 3D Reveal Showed Nintendo Can Still Surprise and Delight

ThrowMeBarrel

This is all good for zelda fans nintendo but when are you going to drop something entirely new instead of ports and old nostalgia? This title shouldnt even be a big announcement as its just a port of an old game not an entirely new game, its only exciting news because of the lack of other game news for 3DS. I am surprisingly finding more fun in eshop games at the mo and tomodachi life.

Re: I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of Duty With Sony And Microsoft, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

ThrowMeBarrel

The ps4 and xb1 in my eyes are simply trying too hard to be too real, lara croft and falling down pits shooting bears in the face and getting your karma later was all fun until it began to look and sound real, it was just a bit of fun at first to play with your imagination because it still felt like a video game rather than a movie but now games are turning into movies and take away the need to use your imagination which is why games like tomb raider and cod etc will never be as good as older games and ps and xbox should stop trying to reinvent the wheel and come up with new ideas rather than gimmicky content such as a dog or real looking hair. Luckily I think nintendo understand this and are the only brand still able to create entirely fantasy worlds and characters without resorting to using real life / history / war / crime for cheap ideas. I must admit though as an older gamer i've been more impressed by the eshop than the physical releases so far, I like mario, sonic etc but there comes a time when you can only play so much mario and sonic before it gets old, especially if you have been playing since the snes days, it would be nice to see other characters get more attention , also I'm not a fan of atlus /enix games and zelda and pokemon again kind of been there done that so I think nintendo need to bring other characters in to attract older gamers besides the older gamers are the ones spending the money , kids will only stiuck to what they know aka pokemon etc.

Re: Bayonetta 2 Falls From UK Charts After One Week

ThrowMeBarrel

The problem is a lack of interest for the wii u not the game, im sure many want to play it but can't justify buying the console just for it, the wiiu just isn't as attactive long term, thats not to say ps4 or xboxone are doing any better for games and are so far proving to be an expensive gimmick but they have other multimedia features which act as like an all in one media centre. The other thing is, many who wanted it would have bought it already, it also doesn't help when the crappy shops such as game in the uk sold their soul for maximum profits and now show barely any interest for anything niche/indie.

Re: Nintendo Returns to Profit as Wii U Sales Show Signs of Life

ThrowMeBarrel

Nintendo are starting to realise their target audience even though its took quite a few weird and questionable decisions to reach this point. Bayonetta 2 is the game of the moment simply because it offers everything modern gamers want in a game, the other thing is, nintendo need to realise that parents aren't going to be spending a ton of money on next gen for kids with the wide availability of tablets and cheaper games formats, the older gamers who grew up with n64s snes are the ones who will pay for next gen so its important to keep this group happy and I think nostalgia factor cannot sell a game or console alone these days which is why new mario, sonic, zelda and co games won't exactly impress next gen gamers who have been there and done that and want something entirely new to justify a wiiu over the other consoles. Nintendo can keep a younger image but it also needs to cater more to the older gamers who make up a huge majority of the nintendo fanbase. I haven't got a wiiu because the biggest dissapointment for me was finding out the controller is not a take anywhere handheld, the price of the console is too much right now and needs to be aggressively priced to attract a casual market aka families/people with jobs, I think a redesign version 2 of the console could fix this but until then despite some great looking games I can't justify spending £250

Re: Super Smash Bros. Slams the Competition Yet Again, 3DS Sales Drop

ThrowMeBarrel

The problem is people follow fashion and trends and hyped up marketed games more than the unigue games which are original and fun , Even to an extent where people want to buy games just to jump on the hype which means we will see less and less unique titles and more games turning into a hybrid of all kinds of different games in a sandbox, I actually have enjoyed more of the eshop releases lately due to their pretty unique ideas and gameplay which work great on the go as casual and cheaper games for 3DS.

Re: Atlus Releases Zen and Junpei Character Trailers for Persona Q

ThrowMeBarrel

come on man, Persona got lost from 3 onwards, I don't know why they turned it into a jpop idol lifestyle fashion and dating game, But i guess this seems like the normal now for JRPG, I guess it depends which generation you were born in. I actually prefer this cartoony approach on persona Q because of the quirky comedy and world rather than trying to be all hipster / hyper-fashion and relating to real things in the real world. Still though, Can japan get over the whole emo/punk look?

Re: Review: Sonic Lost World (3DS)

ThrowMeBarrel

@RetroJosh because people are sheep and easily fooled by hype, also this site is mostly pro 1st party releases aka zelda/mario/pokemon etc which makes me think they obviously have some kind of business deal with nintendo. If this game is so bad, How can a game like zelda which is recycling the same old things over and over with repetitive gameplay deserve such high scores or mario who has been living off gimmicks since the wii? Play the game first to decide for yourself, The same critics also spoken out badly about the Sonic adventure series upon release but these games are now regarded as a sega and dreamcast classics and are very sought after and played by fans today . The problem is everybody is hyper critical because of media and social networks, When the dreamcast was available none of this mass hype and social blogging was going around before release so it was an easy decision to buy a game based on if we just like the look of it but now everybody is brainwashing us and are super competitive to a point where it's barely about the games, Just enjoy it who cares if somebody else didn't like the game not everybody has the same taste.

Re: Review: Frogger 3D (3DS)

ThrowMeBarrel

@Zach Unfair, Cheap shots, Difficulty spikes, Doesn't this sound like sonic, zelda and mario games all over? Almost every way to lose a life in sonic, zelda and mario revolve around unsuspecting moments where it's simply too late to do anything until you've lost and had to start again to learn how to beat the section.
Frogger, Like centipede and pacman etc is a simple game and take away the original mechanics it wouldn't be frogger, I think the low score is a result of trying to compare it to the big budget production values of other games but huge worlds and shiny graphics shouldn't instantly give a game more respect. I hope people who are reading these reviewers do not make a final judgement from a review because in this case the reviewer is wrong, Frogger is as fun and inventive and even more accessible than ever, The type of gameplay works for portable gaming, It doesn't have to be a big blockbuster to match consoles.

Re: Review: Fantasy Life (3DS)

ThrowMeBarrel

I don't really think this was a very good review, There was nothing in the review to suggest the game is worthy of the score, The reviewer really only talks about the actual features of the game rather than really going into any detail about how it plays and certain things like mechanics, pacing, Longevity, Fun factor etc. I've read a few reviews on this site and they seem to be quick to give out big scores for anticipated games and bias towards the less popular releases, Take that as you will. also - " but mature enough in its presentation that it won’t turn off the legal-to-drive crowd " why is this game mature for adults? explain the reasons why adults would enjoy this game, It looks like another cutesy harvest moon type kids game to me.

Re: Poll: Tell Us What You Think of the New Nintendo 3DS

ThrowMeBarrel

I'm mad at this, Nintendo could have done this with the first XL , The XL is not exactly a cheap buy in the first place and is still selling for £140+ over here in the UK and i bet they will still price the new model higher, Also to have games which can only run on this model is just a smackdown to 3ds owners, Especially a game as popular and most wanted as xenoblade, Nintendo will be pushing for more games which can use this extra cpu power to promote the new console so it seems that the old 3ds models are just going to get left behind . I definitely won't be buying the new model, I think nintendo are giving into media hype too much, The media are shameless and spineless so why the hell worry how well nintendo are doing compared to the others, Nintendo make games, The others make interactive dvds. The emphasis should be on value for everyone young and old and loyalty within the games and hardware.
