Re: Celebrate 30 Years of Metroid With The Fan-Made "AM2R"

@YeshaYahu5417 The Metroid series has never sold as well as many of Nintendo's other franchises like Mario, the DK platformers, Zelda, Kirby, or even Animal Crossing. This is something they themselves have acknowledged, but they know that fans are still out there. I think that they also feel that they need to innovate and add new gameplay elements whenever they make a new installment in a beloved franchise. Nintendo actually said that the reason we don't have a new F-Zero is because they didn't feel like there was anything new to do with it that they haven't already done.
I think we will get another prime game eventually when they feel like enough time has passed.

@VanillaLake I really think that the simplicity and price are going to be the major selling point for the majority of their sales. If they added a cartridge slot and bumped the price up I really think this would flop pretty hard. If you are interested in collecting NES cartridges, original NESs are very affordable online. You could even get the top loader of you are worried about it breaking

I don't mean this maliciously, but I think most of you who are commenting about the shortcomings of the NES mini are not considering who their target audience is. I think they nailed it as a product that will have extremely wide appeal outside of the hardcore community. This system is not for you if you are already emulating NES, this system is for everyone who will be willing to impulse buy a $60 machine around the holidays that they have intense nostalgia for, to share it with their friends and family and relieve their childhood.

The NES sold 62 million units worldwide, and a lot of the people who picked one up back then will probably consider this.

This seems neat but not practical. If you are going to take that thing around you will need to be able to store it (in your pocket or wherever). My point is that if you are already going to have to deal with that, for less than $60 you can pick up an actual GBC. If it's the screen you like GBA SP is still less than $60 online. Sure it still has the edge with the display, but it doesn't seem likely that anyone who wants to play gameboy on their phone is going to be willing to front $60 for the device, and then go buy carts after that. With android especially, it is exceptionally easy to emulate gameboy.

It just seems like there isn't a market for this. Maybe I'm wrong? I'll watch the comments here to see if any Nintendo fans are interested...

Re: Darksiders is Coming to Wii U

After Nintendolife speculated that this might come true about a week ago, I picked up a copy of Darksiders II on eBay for $9.50. I wanted to own it, and was worried about the price of the game increasing like when Bayonetta 2 went from $25 to $50-60 after Bayonetta was announced for smash. Anyone think that Darksiders II will see an increase in demand with the news of the Darksiders remaster?

Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games

I'm really really confused about why so many people feel like this should support cartridges...? I have some news thats gonna get you really excited. You can buy a working NES online for about the same price as this thing (~$70) right now!! And guess what! It supports cartridges!!!

But seriously it sounds like you just wanted Nintendo to give you an NES with 30 free games for the same price as what NESs are currently worth... Also if you have carts do you not also have an NES?? This console is not about making the ultimate retro gaming machine, its for people who either haven't owned nintendo consoles for a while, have a lot of nostalgia for NES, want to share their nostalgia with others, grew up in arcades, etc. Nintendo is adapting to the changing way that video games are consumed as media. Selling this new console is going to help raise awareness of their presence on smart phones where they target that same crowd. I think that this product is going to have a wide reach in the non-console-gamer audience similar to the way the wii did (but I obviously don't think it will come close to wii sales).
