@RupeeClock I think it's both an issue with the reader and site moderators. It's the reader's fault for only reading the headline and not bothering to actually read the article but also Nintendo Life's fault for creating articles that have very misleading/confusing titles.
@BenAV Thank god somebody finally gets it. I thought me and few others were the only people that actually read more than just the headline and spent more than 10 seconds to articulate why this might be not be so bad after all.
@Ooccoo_Jr I think this is the article that finally proves my suspicions that most people on this site are people are individuals that are overly-nitpicky about everything and will try to spin everything piece of news into something horrible. Literally nobody in Japan loses out in this situation (if anything it actually gives them more options which is GASP A GOOD THING) but in typical Nintendo Life fashion, somehow a positive is a negative.
@aznable Then buy the actual physical copy of the game. Bam, problem solved. Your acting like the digital code version is the only way people can buy the game physically which it's not.
@RupeeClock And you can still buy a physical copy with the cartridge so what's your point? You're acting like a traditional physical copy of the game doesn't exist which it does.
At first I read this that a physical copy with only a digital code inside was the only way Japan would be able to get the game physically and was about to freak out since I thought that there would be a high chance that would happen in the west as well but that's obviously not the case so crisis averted! Also if you're someone that is genuinely really salty about this, then I think that's a good indicator that you're just someone that's overly-cynical and just wants to complain about everything. Literally nobody in Japan loses out in this situation. Collectors can just buy the Physical version with the cartridge inside, people who likes owning physical copies but can't be bothered constantly switching the cartridges around (yes those kind of people do exist, I'm actually friends with one) can buy the physical version that has the download code inside and people who want to purchase the game immediately can download the digital version. If anybody has legit arguments to explains why this is detrimental to the gaming industry (and not empty whining such as "I'M NOT USED TO THIS KIND OF PRACTISE " or "DOWNLOAD CODES/DIGITAL VERSIONS ARE SCUMMY") please let me know, I'm curious.
Regardless if this was good fun or not, can the internet please just shut the f*ck about Waluigi already? While it was funny(?) at first, having every discussion about Smash eventually turning to Waluigi has gotten extremely irritating and is exactly why some people are so against him being in the game. Let me repeat this one more time for all the idiots in the back HE. IS. AN. ASSIST. TROPHY! HE. WILL. NEVER. BE. IN. THE. GAME! He might get into the inevitable Smash 6 but as for Ultimate, please for the love of god just deal with the reality that he will not be in it.
This looks so amazing, I really hope they do something similar with the December/Christmas splatfest I'm going to be on team Treat, I've not gone out trick-or-treating for nearly a decade now so I think being on that team is the more suitable option. Also, I'm going to get the Kyonshi hat gear, I think the chinese vampire look is the coolest one out of the 4 options.
@Greator Okay maybe restraining was too extreme a word, but I do think that people's obsession with it should be toned down a bit or to be more precise. The petition will not succeed in the slighest, she's a fan character that has far too much lewd content surrounding her. If Nintendo actually do acknowledge her in any shape of form (e.g. alternate costume or a very quick/vague mention) I will honestly be shocked. Again it's fine if you like the character that's perfectly fine, despite my quarrels right now I also like the character/meme I think it's funny and interesting, but people expecting the character to become canon are being really delusional.
@Blizzia That's fair enough, I always tend to stumble upon the more...controversial sides of a fandom so explains why your experiences are much more positive than mine. I think it's also because the really expressive fanboys tend to be VERY vocal compared to the more civil ones so that must be why I tend to see the cringy fans much more often than the actual normal ones.
@Greator It's fine to like something but when people are making online petitions to get a fictional character become canon, and will most likely throw a hissy fit if it never goes fruition, that's when people's obsession has to be restrained a bit.
@Bensei Sorry my wording was kinda skewed in that last comment, I meant that around 60% of Nintendo fans are cringy and 40% are not but I can see why you thought otherwise.
@Blizzia Something tells me you don't frequently visit twitter, youtube and check the comments for other articles on this site if you think the percentage of cringey nintendo fans are that low but I think that's for the best.
Okay I thought this was funny at first but it's starting to get really annoying now. It's okay to like something and talk about it, but people's obsession with it is almost becoming disturbing at this point. She's never going to become canon, deal with it.
@dequesi Yeah barring the most recent one, which was god awful and I would be ecstatic to never see again, it would be a real shame if none of the shifty station were made playable after the splatfests have ended for good. I'm hoping that's what they do for the very last update making all the shifty stations playable outside of splatfests.
@BigKing K please get back to me how Humpback Back Track is anything like Snapper Canal. Again if you hate the game and company so much, you can just leave as nobody is making you stay.
It's amazing how thick people can be on this website, the article literally states it will be the last NEW stage in the game, not the last stage period. You guys have to start actually reading the articles rather than skimming through it and assuming the worst out of everything.
Seriously though somebody must have been REALLY desperate (and rich) if they had to resort to buying a run-down cartridge of a game that comes out in less than a fortnight.
@Agramonte If you're referring to the modern DK Country games when you mentioned ""silly side scrolling games are a waste"" then I'm convinced you've never actually played either Returns or Tropical Freeze. Yes they're no where near as ambitious or revolutionary as the Prime games but writing them off as just some standard platforming games is a massive disservice to them since, imo and a lot of other people, they're up there with the modern 2D Rayman game as some of the best platformers of all time. If their not your cup of tea then that's fine but please don't try to downplay genuinely excellent games just because their not want you want from the company.
Them posting this tweet to show that they're still active can at least put people at ease that the whole 'Retro Studio's potentially shutting down' rumour was just a farce to create drama. However, I'm not trying to sound entitled but I desperately want them to fill us in if they're actually working on something at all. It doesn't even have to be in the form of a big trailer, just a teaser like MP4 and AC Switch is honestly enough to satisfy me at this point. It's been nearly 5 years since their last game came out and we still know 0% on their newest project, the wait is honestly becoming less suspenseful and more annoying at this point. I understand that games take a long to make and them taking this long before they can even tease it at least shows that they're making sure the game is as best as it can be but it's becoming understandable why some people think that they're in the risk of being shutting down or they're not creating games anymore.
I don't know what disappoints me more, the fact that you guys thought it was a smart move to make such a troll-bait article or the fact that some people are actually stupid/gullible enough to believe every word you're saying. 1) Please refrain from making troll-bait articles in the future, it brings out the worst in people and doesn't paint you in a good light. 2) Before you guys get triggered by obvious trolling, actually read the article and learn how to detect sarcasm.
@Tarolusa Honestly I know they wouldn't do this in a million years but I seriously wouldn't mind if Nintendo just handed over all the rights of the Star Fox franchise to the developers who are making this game and then they became the studio that created all the Star Fox games from that point onwards. Still holding out for the Star Fox racing game but I'm pretty sure that was just a baseless rumour after all :/
Seriously why does this game look 1000x times better than any Star Fox game that has been released in the past 20 years? It's really great to see the Star Fox cast in full motion and in this level of HD, actually feels like a proper evolution of the series.
@mystman12 I understand it was only a small section of the fanbase but they still harassed him enough to get banned. Yeah they apologised afterwards but that doesn't changed the fact that they still harassed and should have known better. I do agree that it's a real shame that the entire Waluigi fanbase gets clumped together and all get portrayed in a negative light. 95% of the Waluigi fanbase are chill people and it's a shame that they have to be tagged with a negative stigma just because of a few idiots.
@Yorumi That's fair enough, you obviously know your stuff about this subject so I don't see anyway I can add any additional info. Yeah, the Splatoon 2 and Pokemon Switch situations are laughable, I honestly can't see how anyone could defend those actions. I'm hoping Nintendo give more reasons why this online service is worth your time (besides having the option to continue playing Splatoon 2 online but I know that's a very controversial reason to pay for the service) but at this point I'm not getting my hopes up and this is coming from someone who tries to remain relatively optimistic at all times.
@Yorumi If your talking about certain 3rd party games not having cloud saves, that's on them not Nintendo (I thought people knew this but I guess not :/). But it is inexcusable why games like Splatoon 2 and the 'Let's Go' games don't enable them as well as why their voice chat still sucks royally even in 2018.
Sad though that only a short amount of time remains in which you can Splatoon 2 for free I know it's a stupid move, but I think I might pay for the online service just so I can continue playing Splatoon 2, the game is truly excellent and I wished I had gotten into it so much sooner than I did.
This will most likely be the deciding factor in whether the direct was great or terrible for a lot of people. The direct can go 4 ways:
1) The games segment was great but the online part sucked
2) The games segment sucked but the online part was great
3) Both games and online segment was great
4) Both games and online segment sucked
I think option 1 will be the mostly likely outcome of the direct but here's hoping option 3 is what most people will think of the direct.
Edit - Wait I just noticed that the article says that more info will be given on the 14th, not the 13th. Either this is a typo or my original assumption was correct, Nintendo would give the online service it's own direct which I hope this is the case.
That's cute, still hope that he doesn't get into Smash Bros. Them putting him in will essentially give the message that if you harass the developers enough, they'll eventually cave in and give in to your demands which would not bode well in the future. It's at least nice though that all the civil Waluigi fans are getting their interest in the character noticed.
I'll keep my expectations in check for this direct.
On the 3DS side, i'm expecting updates on Luigi's Mansion, Bowser's Inside Story 3DS, any 3rd party games that are currently in development for the thing (e.g. Persona Q2) and MAYBE 1 new announcement (possible confirmation on that Link's Awakening remake that was circling around the internet early this year).
On the Switch side, i'm expecting more news on Super Mario Party, the 'Let's Go' games, obviously a good chuck on Ultimate, some 3rd party stuff like Diablo 3 and Starlink, a new update for Splatoon 2 and hopefully some new info on some of their 2019 games that were shown off at their E3 like Daemon x Machina and Fire Emblem. If their IS a surprise announcement (which I don't think there'll be but I hope their is), I hope it's the reveal of that Star Fox Racing game that was rumoured just before E3.
Pikmin 4 and Animal Crossing Switch would be very nice but I won't get myself hyped up just to be disappointed again. I've done that several times already and I refuse to do it once more :')
About freaking time Nintendo! Unlike a lot of other people, I'm actually really glad that the 3DS will be getting some focus in this direct, the poor thing has gotten such a huge hate bandwagon attached to it that I can't help but root for the little system. As for the online service, I'm going to predict that that will get it's own seperate direct in a later date since I've noticed that Nintendo have been hosting a sleuth of directs this past month all focusing on different areas. First was the Smash Bros exclusive direct, then the Nindies, then there was the short mobile direct and tomorrow they'll be hosting a direct on their big Switch and 3DS games. I think it only makes sense to end off their list of direct with one that is entirely focused on their online service. Gets enough time to explain all the details without having to sacrifice time that could be used to showcase and hype up all the upcoming games.
I'm not even expecting any bombshell announcement since Nintendo have made it pretty clear that their waiting until it's 2019 before they'll open up the floodgates again but for the love of god can they at least maybe show off a new trailer for that Daemon x Machina game or the Fire Emblem switch game? Since they were both shown off at E3, which indicates that Nintendo are at least confident enough to show off these two particular games even if they aren't 2018 releases, I'm going to assume that both of them will most likely be out within the first few months of the year and Nintendo has to give them some more focus to build up people's hype for them.
If this ends up being another Nindies direct, I'm going to be really pissed. I understand the value of indie games and I also understand that some of them can end up becoming masterpieces, but they should NOT take up around 80% of the catalogue of games for the Switch this year. We've already had two Nindies within the past 2 weeks, we really don't need another one.
I'm just praying that this is a traditional full-blown direct with maybe some indie games thrown into a montage segment around the middle or end of the direct because at this point, I really just want to see some Nintendo games that aren't either Smash Bros (as amazing as it looks, other games are in dire need for more attention) or indies. Show off more of Super Mario Party, something worthwhile in the 'Let's Go' games and finally give us solid clarification on how the Nintendo Online Service will work.
Edit: I just want to clarify that the last proper Nintendo direct (a.k.a not a nindies or a Smash focused one) was the one back in March, which was not only half a year ago but is so far the only proper direct we've gotten this entire year (let's be real, their E3 direct was pretty much just a Smash presentation with a few other games sprinkled into it in order to give it the illusion of a proper E3 showing). Seriously Nintendo, it's time for another full-blown direct.
@Slasher With how casualised their making the game, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the game gave you the option to automatically obtain the badge if you've losed the gym battle two times prior.
@Pokeman_noob go check on twitter, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. It's pretty much become a meme just how disillusion the fanbase have become.
Honestly at this point I just want anything that doesn't make this look like a complete oudated cash grab. Minigames, a new character, a new area, new post-game content, just anything that's actually new and we haven't seen before in a Kanto focused game.
It'll be more news on Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Saying this in advance before all the diehard Pokemon fans get their expectations through the roof expecting 30 minutes of gen 8 news just to end being disappointed and salty that GameFreak didn't offer them the news that they never promised them yet they expected them to.
Here's the factual opinion on this whole restricting crossplay thing: If Sony did it = it would be bad If Nintendo did it = it would be bad If Microsoft did it = it would be bad If any outside source did it = it would be bad IT. IS. BAD.
If this was Nintendo restricting crossplay in Fortnite instead of Sony, I can guarantee you that everybody trying to downplay the whole thing and twist it into being "just a fanboy thing" would be the ones screaming bloody murder and calling their actions inexcusable. You can try to deny it but you know it's true :/
@ThatNyteDaez I'd just ignore him if I were you. I've seen him around here for a while, at first I thought he was someone that gave Nintendo legit criticism but as of late I think it's just a case of he's either a) a troll (the whole calling Sony thing is pretty laughable) or b) somebody that just wants to trash talk them at any given oppurtunity.
@NewAdvent Yeah I know, the only reason why I'm admittedly salty was because there was already a little indie showcase not too long ago and getting another one so soon after is a bit much. I just wish Nintendo would at least show off whatever games they actually have in store instead of solely relying on indie developers to keep players attention until Smash Ultimate comes out.
@NewAdvent That's fair enough but if they won't to focus on their 2019 games just yet then they should at least give more info on their other 2018 games that aren't Smash. Super Mario Party is going to be out really soon and barring that cool slice of info we got yesterday, we haven't heard a single thing about it since E3. The 'Let's Go' games we've also heard not a whole lot about but I understand that GameFreak plays a huge part in that so I won't entirely blame Nintendo for keeping those games in the dark. I think I'm just getting a bit antsy at this point, barring Smash, Nintendo have been completely silent about what they have in store for the Switch in the future.
Heck even if they don't want to show off any new info on games that aren't coming out in 2018, they could at least have a direct based on Super Mario Party or the 'Let's Go games (though that might be up for GameFreak to decide when they want to show off meaty new content so I won't hold them accountable for keeping the games in the dark). I'm not trying to sound whiny or self-entitled but there's a huge reason why a lot people are saying that 2018 was the year of Smash and only Smash.

Some people will still twist this into being Nintendo's fault if a certain game doesn't enable cloud save support. I can almost guarantee it sadly :/
Re: Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow To Showcase Upcoming Switch And 3DS Titles
Re: Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow To Showcase Upcoming Switch And 3DS Titles
Re: Random: The 'N' Of The Logo At Nintendo's Kyoto HQ Has Fallen Down
All jokes and memes aside, I do hope that all the staff members are safe and sound.
Re: Rumour: Yet Another Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Switch Online Details Incoming?
I'm not even expecting any bombshell announcement since Nintendo have made it pretty clear that their waiting until it's 2019 before they'll open up the floodgates again but for the love of god can they at least maybe show off a new trailer for that Daemon x Machina game or the Fire Emblem switch game? Since they were both shown off at E3, which indicates that Nintendo are at least confident enough to show off these two particular games even if they aren't 2018 releases, I'm going to assume that both of them will most likely be out within the first few months of the year and Nintendo has to give them some more focus to build up people's hype for them.
Re: Rumour: Yet Another Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Switch Online Details Incoming?
Re: Junichi Masuda Set To Share Some New Pokémon Gaming News On Japanese TV This Sunday
@Slasher With how casualised their making the game, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the game gave you the option to automatically obtain the badge if you've losed the gym battle two times prior.
Re: Junichi Masuda Set To Share Some New Pokémon Gaming News On Japanese TV This Sunday
@Pokeman_noob go check on twitter, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. It's pretty much become a meme just how disillusion the fanbase have become.
Re: Junichi Masuda Set To Share Some New Pokémon Gaming News On Japanese TV This Sunday
Honestly at this point I just want anything that doesn't make this look like a complete oudated cash grab. Minigames, a new character, a new area, new post-game content, just anything that's actually new and we haven't seen before in a Kanto focused game.
Re: Junichi Masuda Set To Share Some New Pokémon Gaming News On Japanese TV This Sunday
@bratzdoll At this point that wouldn't surprise me in the slighest.
Re: Junichi Masuda Set To Share Some New Pokémon Gaming News On Japanese TV This Sunday
Re: Sony Won't Allow Fortnite Cross-Play Because "PlayStation Is The Best Place To Play"
Here's the factual opinion on this whole restricting crossplay thing:
If Sony did it = it would be bad
If Nintendo did it = it would be bad
If Microsoft did it = it would be bad
If any outside source did it = it would be bad
IT. IS. BAD.
Re: Sony Won't Allow Fortnite Cross-Play Because "PlayStation Is The Best Place To Play"
Re: Sony Won't Allow Fortnite Cross-Play Because "PlayStation Is The Best Place To Play"
Re: Nintendo Launches Free Interactive Labo Workshops for Kids Across The US
Don't get me wrong, this is adorable and I'm sure that the kids will have a blast but why didn't they do this during the 3 MONTH LONG SUMMER BREAK?
Re: Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Announced For 28th August
@NewAdvent Yeah I know, the only reason why I'm admittedly salty was because there was already a little indie showcase not too long ago and getting another one so soon after is a bit much. I just wish Nintendo would at least show off whatever games they actually have in store instead of solely relying on indie developers to keep players attention until Smash Ultimate comes out.
Re: Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Announced For 28th August
Re: Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Announced For 28th August
Heck even if they don't want to show off any new info on games that aren't coming out in 2018, they could at least have a direct based on Super Mario Party or the 'Let's Go games (though that might be up for GameFreak to decide when they want to show off meaty new content so I won't hold them accountable for keeping the games in the dark). I'm not trying to sound whiny or self-entitled but there's a huge reason why a lot people are saying that 2018 was the year of Smash and only Smash.
