Bundled games may be to blame

The Wii U was launched with a huge selection of games to choose from covering a whole host of genres. There's the likes of Assassin's Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition for experienced gamers while titles such as Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U offer something for more family play.

It would perhaps be expected that a fair few games would be sold, however figures coming out of North America show that only 1.2 games are being bought per console. This is a relatively low figure considering the Wii sold 2 games per console when it launched back in 2006, but there could be several factors to account for it.

Speaking to investors, analyst James Hardiman of Longbow Research said this could be because of the Wii U's higher price tag leaving consumers with less money to spend on additional games, but also pointed out the fact that Nintendo Land is bundled in with the Deluxe Set. Many may have seen Nintendo Land as a rich enough experience in itself and therefore decided to hold off on buying many more titles alongside it.
