Re: Switch Online's N64 Update Is Live (Version 2.3.0), Here's What's Included

SuperToadie

@dustinprewitt What do you mean by the 'N64 A.P.?' I think there is only one version of the Nintendo 64 program on Nintendo Network that you can download from the Nintendo Switch eShop. If it's a custom software module or some other program, then that may be why. You should try downloading or re-downloading the official Nintendo 64 program running on Nintendo Network.

Re: Random: Check Out These NES Consoles Being Tested, Packed, And Shipped

It's incredibly distasteful the author of this blurb chose to refer to assembly labourers as 'goats.' Mechanised labour is incredibly repetitious, yes, but it is crucial work. Assembly workers operate pridefully knowing their collective labour will put smiles on millions of faces. Strict protocols are in place because the highly mechanised process incurs the dangers of repetition-motion errors. If workers don't follow protocols to the letter all the time, every time, with every single unit, it would be disastrous for safety and output. So, please, no matter how tedious it may appear, assembly workers and factory workers don't appreciate being described as mindless.

Re: Rumour: Could We Be Getting New NES And SNES Games For Switch Online?

SuperToadie

@Moistnado Neither the National Security Office nor the National Patent Office is involved with licensing, only trademarking. I think the $20 annual pricing is not too bad, but the $50 for the additional content on Nintendo Network is obscene, particularly when most N64 games have aged terribly visually and SEGA Genesis should have been included with Super Nintendo on Nintendo Network as part of the $20 subscription.

Re: Nintendo Make Changes To Switch Online's Automatic Renewals

SuperToadie

@Chibi_Manny I'm not sure if you fully understand, but this is an intentional financial tactic designed to take advantage of take-based memory functioning. It is in no way limited to just parents or even mostly parents. It affects everyone. When you purchase a product, your task is completed. The memory for turning-off auto-renewal diminishes. In fact, even when folks deliberately remind themselves all to turn off auto-renewal right before purchases, many will still forget due to the nature of task-based memory. This is what companies have been betting on and succeeding.

You neglected some important distinctions. Microsoft did not allow customers to turn off Xbox Live autorenewal manually until after 2009. Customers were required to call and speak to Microsoft customer service directly and request autorenewal to be turned off. There were no instructions for this. The term 'autorenewal' did not even exist in Microsoft's end-user agreements. Instead, Microsoft called it 'cancellation,' discouraging customers from calling sooner or even calling at all, greatly increasing lapsing subscriptions.

Re: Nintendo Make Changes To Switch Online's Automatic Renewals

@CharlieGirl That's the whole point. It's a great money-making tactic. These companies take advantage of the functioning of task-based cognition and memory. I knew it was scummy in 2003 with Xbox Live. Even worse, Microsoft required that you call and speak directly to a customer-service representative over the phone in order to cancel the auto-renewal. Until around 2009, there was no way to do it yourself!

Re: Yes, Hogwarts Legacy Really Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch

SuperToadie

I'm not sure why you guys put up the warning post when you yourself wrote this article. It's totally legitimate to have concerns about its performance on a mobile hardware platform. Like many have said, it may even be running over the internet, except I don't know why a retail release would be produced then. I even thought there's no way this is running on PS4 without a lot of shortcuts. I really can't believe it'll run on Switch. It makes me think of those horribly downgraded ports that are blurry and low-resolution. But yes, folks are rightly concerned about purchasing a full game that won't run as expected.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Is Getting A Digital Release On Xbox

SuperToadie

I thought this was supposed to be a remaster? There is no way this game would ever come to Virtual Console on Nintendo Switch as a remaster. It wouldn't make any sense for Microsoft to also release the original N64 game alongside the remaster, as releasing the remaster on Nintendo eShop would allow them more control.

Re: Nintendo Highlights "Smoother Play Experience" In The Opening Hours Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

SuperToadie

Where is it mentioned the camera is now freely controlled? Also, why the hell would anybody want quality of life features in a video game? I can understand it in something like Ring Fit Adventures, but how is it necessary to check players' BMI in a Zelda game? Keep quality of life features out of video games, unless the game was designed as quality of life software.

Re: Random: Super Mario 3D All-Stars' Cartridge Is Rubbing People Up The Wrong Way

SuperToadie

Although the placement did bother me when I first saw it, what bothers me far more is when Switch game cards are called cartridges. That is a far more egregious error, as the technologies are completely different. Game cards are flash memory devices that are locally read, while cartridges are actual conductor boards that fit directly into the printed circuit board.

Re: Report Finds Elementary School Students In Japan Use 3DS As Their Main Music Player

SuperToadie

@LuciferOnReddit
I suppose intrinsically smartphones are superior, but I've never wanted to listen to music on a device that also receives calls and messages and also gives other types of alerts. The battery life on the 3DS also far exceeds that of a smartphone when listening to music. The most important thing is having palpable controls. Also having a continuous volume control over discrete metrics is far superior and more pleasant.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

SuperToadie

I love the design of this New 2DS XL so much. I seldom use 3D on my New 3DS XL, but when I use 3D it's for games that make great use of it such as Star Fox 64 3D or Shovel Knight. The sleek design of this New 2DS is so appealing. I'm also loving how they gave it a normal volume control. The volume control on the New 3DS is needlessly uncomfortable, and when using 3DS Sound it's antithetical to move the slider up to lower the volume. Another great feature is the accessibility of the microSD card. It's very cumbersome transferring files via Wi-fi as it currently works. They were also very clever to include a cover over both the microSD card slot and the Game Card slot. So many of my games have gotten dirt embedded in the little grooves of the card from just sitting in the 3DS and being handled. I think this is a superb redesign. The only thing I want to know is if the stereo speakers are as loud as the New 3DS XL's speakers. Other than that, I am willing to sacrifice the 3D effect for a small number of games over the elegance and intuitive redesigns of this new model.

Re: Toys "R" Us Teases More Exclusive amiibo in North America

SuperToadie

I've refused to buy store exclusive amiibo. All the ones I have so far have been available at all retailers. I still refuse to buy store exclusive amiibo because I think it's a really stupid practice. The way I see it, I get to save a few bucks. If any of the imported ones ever happen to be close to MSRP, I may consider getting them, but I will never give in to store exclusive BS.

Re: Talking Point: Tatsumi Kimishima Is A Safe Pair Of Hands In Changing Times

SuperToadie

@Spectra_Twilight

I agree. I don't understand why some think a higher age is disadvantageous. That's ageism. If anything, the opposite is true. The greater the age, the more experience, the more wisdom. Only time will tell in which direction Mr. Kimishima will take Nintendo, but I am certain his approach will be conservative (i.e., safe) and mindful of Mr. Iwata's approaches that made him so popular and successful.
