I dont care about any of this stuff either. Not really interested in playing games online and if I want to contact friends I can always phone or email them...
I dread the day when all racers are 'super realistic'!
I'm a big fan of arcade racers and this was about what I was expecting from Ridge Racer, I'd still get it if I get a 3DS. Online doesnt really both me, hardly use those modes myself unless they unlock stuff in the main game.
I'm hoping SEGA decide to bring OutRun 2 or Sega Rally to the 3DS, as we now have a portable Nintendo console that could do justice to both the graphics and the controls.
Grr, the EU release date has slipped again! Now its April 2011 on System 3's website, this game looks great but seems to be taking an age to reach Europe with no listings on Amazon or the usual online retailers.
I'm not much in to smart phones or online social networking... I do like videogames however.
I'd say the difference between time waster 'app' style games and actual games is much like reading a cheap magazine or a decent book, that you'll actually remember.
@JamieO Yep, I even find myself buying reprints in that I have both of the Videogames Hardware Handbook' Volumes. First mag since Zzap! 64 and Sega Force that I've bought every month!
Will be the first console I buy since the Wii (not including the retro stuff). In addition to all its flash features just playing Game Gear again has sold me the console I wont pre-order though, need to save up a bit first!
I have the first issue of Retro Gamer, bought when it first came out, had hardly any pictures and was intended to be a twice a year publication! Bought every issue since and was really glad when Imagine picked it up.
Its a great mag and although I was never a N64 fan back then (Saturn for me at the time), I'm sure will be an interesting read. Will pick up a copy at the weekend.
Williams Pinball, cool - I'll bet that will get limited distribution. Makes me wonder what happened to System 3's proposed Last Ninja updates / compilations for Wii and DS.
Reminds me of taking my copy of 'Calling' into Game to trade in. They refused to belive the game was available in the UK so didnt want to trade it, even though I was there with my PAL copy.
Now try and find Great Giana Sisters or King of Fighters on the Wii in the UK shops...
Yes, its true they will appeal to people for different reasons, much like the Wii and the HD consoles. Not sure I can afford any of these new gadgets though, at least retro stuff is often cheap and has the added bonus of nostalgic value.
I wont be buying at launch, I want to see how the VC goes and also think its very expensive. If a nice 3D version of OutRun 2 appears at any time, I might change my mind!
I'd never played this, but I liked the look so downloaded it. Just completed the game and I think its great. I lost a lot but continue points are much kinder than GnG and I hardly had any problem with the jumps. Sort of reminded me of playing 'Beyond the Ice Palace' on my C64 years back. By the way, if you want real frustration try going back in time and having to multi-load 8-bit games off a cassette tape.
I've only played Street Fighter 4 a couple of times, thought it was ok. I'm as yet not sold on the 3DS, but Resident Evil and some decent racing games might do it. @James yeah, the '3D visuals' aspect of the console seems less important to me than the possibilities offered by the much improved graphics and analogue control in addition to the exisiting features of the DS. A Game Gear VC would also be good...
@StarDust - GGS was one of those PAL releases that seemed to find no retail release in the UK, along with Calling, King of Fighters and GTI Club on the Wii. At least you could buy them online and play them though.
Regards region locking, I'm hoping it wont extend to carts unless the publisher puts it in there. The EU has missed some really cool games over the years, the GC Mega Man collection, the recent Data East collection on Wii, Double Dragon Advance and Wario ware twisted on GBA, Contra 4 on the DS, which I still dont understand - why not release Contra!?
Oh, and for me Ouendan on DS has so much more charm than Elite Beat Agents, I dont care that I cant read it!
I'd speculate that it would be £250 at most. £300 is the sort of price where a lot of people would just not go to, especially at the moment. I would not even consider paying £300.
Thinking about the region lock thing, it may apply to downloads only, we dont know if it will be carts yet.
Importing and games piracy are quite seperate. True gamers have been importing stuff for years, in Europe to play at 60Hz, or to get hold of great games which would never be localised.
@outrun2SP - I also think it is quite likely any home consoles emulated on the 3DS (not handhelds), will be 50Hz.
If these things come about, it will cause me to think twice about buying the console, will buy more retro stuff instead.
See, the thing is some of my favourite DS games are imports, Contra 4, Ouendan, Jump Ultimate Stars... On the GBA, Double Dragon Advance, Wario Ware Twisted...
Look at the Gamecube version of Sonic Gems, Europe got a 50Hz version and the Streets of Rage games removed from the Japanese release (I know they were also out of the US version).
I recently mentioned on the DS forum, looks like 999 will not come out here, so with this type of policy you need to import a console to play the game.
I guess its to do with protecting profits for regions or something, but as a gamer, its bad news if true.
I just want these early Capcom games out of the way so we can get Super Hang-On. I have them all on the X-box 'Classics Collection' disc and I also think 800 points is too much. Except 'Black Tiger', never played that and it looks quite good so will download when it appears.
50Hz issues aside (so stupid, there should be a 60Hz option - SEGA did the same with Sonic Gems on the GC, which is why I imported that game from Japan), its hard not to see this release as cynical. Mind you, on the GBA they evidently used SMAS as a basis to create two additional retail games.
Nintendo know people wanted these versions and rather than allowing it to compete with the NES on the VC they decided this box would make a bit more money. As Bass says, its a retail VC release, just at a higher price.
The absence of any video or art extras on the disc has even outdone the minimal effort SEGA put into Sonic Classic Collection on the DS. At least these games are emulated properly though, I suppose.
When they output awful Wii games like the recent Need for Speed, they really cant expect anyone who has read a review to buy it. How about making a really good Wii racer, as its a bit lacking.
Also, this competition in the form of 'gesture based gaming', all of the games I really like on the Wii hardly use that function, the pointer yes, waggle, not so much. I was considering getting a 360 for some games, but not for kinect.
@Omega - to make it even worst, the Wii shop was advertising all of these Megadrive import games (and the Neo Geo Import IronClad) for some time with the description 'runs in 60Hz'... which was untrue.
By the way, I never played Cave Story before but downloaded it and it is really fun (and a bit sad too so far). The 'updated' graphics and music are tasteful but the original pixel art and retro sounds are so cool.
I remember playing the arcade years back and more recently have played most of Capcom's VC line up on their already available and cheaper compilation discs for x-box / ps2. Its difficult, but a classic. I really want Super Hang-On to come out in the EU before all of this Capcom stuff though, as there is a game that is not so easy to play in its orignal arcade form...
Really, the need to adjust perspective hardly bothered me. The 3D gameplay set up in Galaxy 2 is quite different, this is more like Rayman 2 where you need to explore open(ish) 3D areas in additional to linear paths though the level.
I think its better than Fragile Dreams, though I see why folks would make the connection. I think its a great game overall and reminds me of playing stuff like castle of illusion as much as say, Rayman 2.
My current most wanted download Dont hold out too much hope for OutRun though, without a Ferrari license you'll get that weird generic car from the Shenmue 2 version. I have the Saturn version of OutRun, which is still the best after all these years!
50Hz Neo Geo games equal an automatic 'no' for me. I hope the arcade Super Hang-On gets release, SEGA were pretty good at bringing their other arcade games from Japan.
@outrun2sp - yep, Ikaruga, another Import I can no longer play on my PAL Wii thanks to Nintendo's 'performance enhancing' updates... At least I still have the GC.
@Starwolf_UK, thats right, I thought I'd read it was a hardware issue with the SNES whereas Megadrive games needed to be specifically coded to play music at the correct speed in 50Hz.
I see how some PAL titles would create problems for the VC, Street Fighter 2 on the Megadrive will only boot in 50Hz, switching it while playing sends the music crazy fast. Streets of Rage 2 wont run in 60Hz unless you set the region to Japan and play it as Bare Knuckle 2...
Either way, am thinking of buying myself a modded / import SNES to go with the Megadrive and Saturn, waiting for the VC to deliver retro games as I want to play them seems pretty hopeless!
I think the music might have been altered to the correct speed in the original PAL release of this Cart - perhaps someone with the original can confirm?
The PAL cart version of Sonic 2 for example will play with the music at the correct speed on either a Megadrive or a Genesis, but the boarders and slower refresh rate will result from playing on the PAL console.
I think this will be a 'streched' but slower gameplay version, just like most SNES games on VC. Be interesting to see I guess, but I still wont buy it!
This game sounds awful, which is a real shame as the Wii is short on good arcade racers - Wii owning racing fans should stick to Burnout 2 on the Gamecube or TrackMania.
Nice one James. As an original fan of the Hog I agree this may be his best 3D game. I was a bit unsure about the controls until I used the GC controller though, which plays best to me. I really like the music, Planet Wisp and Aquarium Park especially. The slightly more retro sounding versions in the DS game are also great.
I have the original and Super Famicom classic controllers, I would most likely buy this one too, hopefully comes to Europe. As a fan of the originals I'll be getting the game anyway (heres hoping its good).
Did someone mention a SEGA site..!? As a big Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast fan, count me in Good luck with the new sites, even though I'm not into the HD consoles, am sure they will be as balanced and well moderated as Nintendo life.
Oh well, I thought their previous point and click revivals were OK games, just not as good as the classic Lucas Arts stuff. They also suffered quite badly in translation to the Wii, with seemingly little effort to optimise them for the platform.
Though I guess downloads are Apple's primary means of delivering games to their customers, not carts or discs...

@Machu - do you mean TrackMania Wii? I found a copy in HMV (Oxford Street). This is a bit rubbish, but I find many games I want have a minimal UK release with most shop assistants looking perplexed when I mention them, GTI Club, Calling, King of Fighters... At least this should be a bit easier to obtain since I know where to look.
Plus once it becomes 'pre-owned', I guess it will appear in more shops.

Re: New York's Pokemon Launch Takes Over Rockefeller Center
Pretty flash, but cant compete with Kirby's knitted bench outside the Elephant and Castle tube station.
Re: Kirby, Your New Game Deserves Better Than This
Elephant and Castle is an unusual choice to launch a game... kinda cool though, go saaaf London!
Bought the game and hopefully have a go at the weekend.
Re: Monster World IV Comes Westward, Finally
If SEGA go to the trouble of translating the game maybe they could also make it available in 60Hz, because their other imports are not.

I'm still waiting for some more SEGA arcade games.
