Re: Nintendo Download: 1st September (Europe)

Ristar42

They run as they should in Europe - full speed and as the 60Hz originals did, which makes them faster than the Wii VC versions.
I hope if any other consoles come to 3DS VC they will do the same.
If I didnt get these 'free' games, this download would be awful.

Re: North American NES Ambassador Games Announced

Ristar42

Glad to know I'm not the only person who thinks Balloon Fight is great - the 'Balloon Trip' music is really memorable too. I hope it is playing at the correct speed though, and that we dont get '50Hz' style emulations in Europe.

Re: These Are The 10 NES Ambassador Games in Japan

Ristar42

Hmm, most of these were released on the GBA as part of the Famicom Mini / NES Classics games, I wonder if they will use those versions.

Will be interesting to see how Nintendo emulates them in Europe, if they reflect the 60Hz standard (with correct speed music and gameplay), or the slow 50Hz versions made available on the Wii VC.

They're 'free' so I'll get them either way!

Re: Sonic 4: Episode II Not Due Until 2012

Ristar42

Well, the Wii is a massive selling console. I suppose SEGA would look at the sales of the first and how much it would cost to produce an exclusive non HD version. I'd like to see it, as I enjoyed the first episode and dont think I'll afford to buy the WiiU for a while.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th August 2011 (Europe)

Ristar42

Pleased to see Gargoyle's Quest, but I still want to know what happened to other consoles we were told would be on 3DS VC at launch, specifically the Game Gear!

I also want Super Hang-On on the Wii, but it seems Nintendo has forgotten that the Wii VC exists.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Assaults UK Top 10

Ristar42

I walked into GAME on Oxford St. on Saturday only to be told they had no copies. HMV not even on display - Oh well, though I'm not normally a RPG fan, and a bit broke at the moment, this looks good so ordered online.

Re: Talking Point: What If Nintendo Became a Third Party?

Ristar42

@ Bass_X0 Saturn had other problems though, the loss of confidence in SEGA products created by the 32X and Mega CD, then the whole world going 3D graphics crazy. SEGA fans (such as myself) who did buy the console, then saw some of the most interesting games left in Japan.

Re: Talking Point: What If Nintendo Became a Third Party?

Ristar42

The quality of games SEGA made went down hill pretty fast after the Dreamcast (with a few exceptions). I have no interest in smart phones so I cant really comment, but I think it would hurt Nintendo's own download services if they provided say, VC content. Perhaps they should try improving their own download services first, with more content and choice.

Re: Current Wii Model to be Discontinued

Ristar42

I dont think it matters... If you really want a Wii that plays GC games you could still buy one second hand, I think Nintendo sold quite a few. This 're-design' should be cheaper though.

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th August 2011 (Europe)

Ristar42

Looks like I'll never get the arcade version on Super Hang-On on the Wii.

Nintendo have such weird practices, why drip feed digital content like this - did they at no point think if they had put the 'free' 3DS VC games up for sale in the first place, they might have sold more consoles?

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th August 2011 (Europe)

Ristar42

Just bad. These downloads are seriously lacking, the excusive for 3DS owners this week is... the gameboy version of Pac-Man - for £3.60? Where has the Wii VC gone, does Nintendo think having the eshop means it can forget the Wii shop exists?

Re: SEGA, Aksys and Konami All Use Permanent 3DS Save Data Too

Ristar42

Those who only buy new games and never trade would need to be very wealthy and have a lot of storage space.

Imagine if this was common place historically, if all those carts and memory cards could not be deleted or over-written? It would be awful and wreck the point of retro collecting.

I would also suggest that trade in and second hand purchases allow people to play many more games than they might if they had to buy everything new, generating interest they may not have otherwise had in possible sequels.

Re: Feature: Staff Memories of Sonic the Hedgehog

Ristar42

Wow James, I was almost twice your age in '91 and my first console was the Atari 2600, but I was equally impressed the first time I saw Sonic on the Megadrive. I also had to make do with the Master system version for a while, which is a classic in its own way - its not like the Megadrive had Bridge or Jungle Zones.

I've still got my original carts and consoles, great gaming memories.

Re: Review: Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo 64)

Ristar42

At the time I remember thinking this was much better than Mario Kart, its a long time since I played it. I recall playing this game into the small hours around a friends house (I owned a Saturn), trying to beat that final race against (I think) a flying pig of some sort and never managing to do so.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog is 20 Years Old Today

Ristar42

Twenty years later, I still have my original cart and a megadrive set up to the tv... All time classic game.

The Game Gear Sonic 1 is also really good (Adventue DX version seemed to have glitches not present in the original), Hopefully will come to 3DS VC in a better emulated version, as my Game Gear screen is pretty bad.

Re: Wii U Striking Balance Between Performance and Price

Ristar42

I dont think Nintendo have been about producing the most 'powerful' hardware for some time. The Gamecube's graphics could look equal to or perhaps even better than the Xbox or PS2, but the Wii was far more sucessful.

I dont want a PS3 (or 4!) with Nintendo written on the box, I want to see them continue to make innovative, fun video games that offer an alternative to the very similar HD consoles out there already.

Re: Fils-Aime: "3DS Didn't Launch Prematurely"

Ristar42

I think its a console you have to play to really appreciate, which makes it tricky to market I suppose. Street Fighter 4 and Ridge Racer were great titles for me as I like arcade style gameplay.
I waited until I could get a bit of a better price though, no way I could afford £200 + at launch!

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th June 2011 (Europe)

Ristar42

Not that impressed with 3DS update so far, more 2D videos and screen shots, a single (though good) VC release...

Was hoping that the eshop would improve upon the slow speed that new content was added on the Wii - still early days I guess.

Re: Rumour: Wii U is 50% More Powerful Than PlayStation 3

Ristar42

Wow - so how many 'bits' is that

Who has the most powerful console doesnt matter to me, its about the games. It will be interesting to see what Nintendo can do with their own games on Wii U.

It may yet be the first 'HD graphics' console I buy (not counting the Megadrive!).

Re: Regional eShops Will Continue to Offer Different Content

Ristar42

'Different' is ok, its when that actually means 'less' or '50Hz only versions' that it tends to bug me.

I was also hoping the game gear VC would be out at launch for all of us, as reported back in March. Nintendo always seem to drip feed their download services, but I'm still happy with the 3DS overall so far.

Re: First Shinobi 3DS Details Appear in a Cloud of Smoke

Ristar42

When (if, funds permitting) I get a 3DS GG, Shinobi will be the first thing I download.

A great series, I agree it does look like a time line - either way, compilation or original, will be great to see Shinobi on the 3DS.

I still remember playing the original coin op, it seemed the coolest thing ever, shame my C64 couldnt quite replicate the experience...

Re: Dead or Alive Fails to Land a Hold on UK Charts

Ristar42

Give the 3DS a chance, I've not bought one yet as there are not many games out and the shop / VC isnt set up. For me, games need actual buttons, I dont want a phone, I want a games console.

As mentioned above, I think given the choice with this genre at the moment on the 3DS, most would go for SF4.

Re: Features: Re-Examining Zelda: Twilight Princess

Ristar42

I played this on the Gamecube and much prefer that version, spining the camera to take in those nice landscapes (I dont have a widescreen TV anyway). I thought the game was great to play through but once its completed, not much incentive to go back.

This and Wind Waker are my favourites, the old games dont have the nostalgia bonus for me as never had Nintendo consoles back then.

Re: Nintendo Reinforcing Western Development for Wii's Successor

Ristar42

I'm kinda with Otak here. I like Japanese style games.

I have no interest in Call of Duty - The worry is with region locking the increased difficulty of importing games without also importing a second console, I might not get to play the games I want.

Hopefully Nintendo will find a balance.

Re: Sega Teases Sonic Anniversary Announcement for 7th April

Ristar42

Was playing my original cart on my Megadrive last night. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my favourite games ever, along with OutRun. Though there were lots of bad games, Colours and Rush were good, I also enjoyed Sonic 4, though I dont think it really lives up to that title even as a single 'episode'...
