@baller98 Heck, if only Asphalt 9 would come to Switch. It has the most advanced rendering pipeline and techniques I've ever seen in a mobile game. So much so, that even DigitalFoundry took notice. As John himself put it at the end of his in depth analysis video: Asphalt 9 would be an incredible addition on Switch. That is, if it could even run it with all bells and whistles of course. Minus at least the HDR, obviously. From what I understood there will be a major difference in this one: not only is it built for the Switch from the ground up, but it will have that original EDEN DNA regarding having an open world like the Driver games. Not short races designed for the mobile phone gaming crowd.
@Switchcraft Can't believe no one answered that question for you. I'm happy to report that you can skip / speedup the text now. This was a major hurdle for me too. Never finished the game initially bought and played on PS3. And pondering if I should get it for Switch. I found out about the text thing via Digital Foundry's video out of all places.
@AlexOlney Suddenly it hits me how many of your videos I must have watched as I totally read that remark in your voice. Completely with that typical snarky intonation to go with it! XD
This trailer had me moved for both the visuals and the music. The last trailer which did the same for the platform genre was Planet Alpha. Looks like I am getting back into 2D platforming again!
Visually it looks better than the first one. But my dreams have risen ever since I tried Asphalt 9 on my Galaxy S9+. A game so visually and technically stunning, it even caught John's attention on Digital Foundry. And rightfully so. If this can be done on mobile, then surely it could be looking that good on Switch. Minus the 10-bit HDR of course, but I'm sure it looks great even on non HDR displays. One can dream.
@Varkster If Dark Souls is true to the title in terms of difficulty then no thanks. Gave up on the third boss on Bloodborne. Maybe this will be easier to master as it isn't 3D but 2D? I'm on the fence as I'm in love with the style and music. But I am afraid it will bring too much frustration to enjoy the experience. Is this something my mind can still muster after being at the office all day when back home?
Normally I skim through reviews but this one got a full read. Glad it got the score it deserved. Owned it on PSP and later on PSP Vita. And the positive comments about this new iteration from other Lumines veterans makes me highly excited! 5.1 system at home and Sony MDR1000x for on the go. Time to get this sucker!
For those who own Gear.Club Unlimited for some time now or are considering it... is 30 euros worthy of addition? Has Eden Games released any quality of life updates or perhaps new content since its release? Thank you in advance.
Please please PLEASE tell me that Manticore doesn't suck. Time to read a review! Can't wait to play this... if it rocks. rushes off for reviews searching
@CarlosCoronado Thank you very much for coming here and explaining more about the game. I for one am very intrigued as of right now. The trailer already had my interest peaked, because I am quite interested in a horror game with pleasing colors and looks and still the ability to scare you. Nice change from all the nitty gritty brown, grays, blacks and grunting ugly monsters.
Really loved Firewatch so I might give Kona a try. But not this week, or the next and not for 20 euros. Still got a massive backlog, so the weekly releases really need to impress greatly if I want to warrant yet another Switch game purchase.
@impurekind Even though you don't get it doesn't mean it isn't effective. This is a strategy used in abundance by both big and small companies. Did it work for me? Surprisingly yes. It almost wanted me to buy it again on Switch. Yes... I actually already played and finished the main game. But maybe due to the empathy of the gesture and the surprise of Alex it made me trigger at least a bit. And you know what? During a sale I will get it again. It's hereby put on my eShop wish list. Effective? Not for you maybe, but it surely got me! And I can assure you factually without having the numbers I am definitely not the only one.
Very conflicted about this game. It looks heaps better and more diverse than the other hack and slash in this genre, which is already out for the Switch. I love a good (frantic) romp, but apart from gameplay I also love my story and cut scenes. More than the option to customize the look of your elf. Let us see what the reviews will say as I never played a game in this genre before, ever. But this game... the trailers I have seen. Consider my interest seriously risen right about now.
Ever since they changed the menu icon I never really continued playing it. That is how much it bothers me. That, and so many other games took my time instead. But I love the game to bits and cannot wait to make time for it again at some point. Maybe the update will peak my curiosity again!
Maybe it's because I take my time with it, but I've passed two hours and don't think I am even close to the end with it. Then again I really take my time and although text adventure games aren't my forte, this game has me hooked. Glad I wasn't able to finish it in one single sitting thus far. And there are plenty dialogue options to make me want to play again and see the other possible responses while checking out the making of bot. The music, the art, the vibe... this game is something else. And you cannot go wrong for the price either.
@Thaswizz ...you probably meant "a little softer". Not Sharper. Still need to finish DOOM myself but already bought it on the (very) cheap for PC. But I am curious to see it run one day on someone's Switch when I get the chance.
@OorWullie Played it on PC. Just like Outlast. Next to Amnesia and SOMA my top favorite horror games. In fact, it doesn't happen often DLC does a better job for me than the main game, but expect the Whistleblower DLC from Outlast to ... blow you away. My rating for the series would be 1. Whistleblower, 2. Main game, 3. Outlast 2.
@Thaswizz How does it look better? From what I read and heard it's the sharpest when playing it on the Switch display versus blowing up a bellow 720P image on a big screen TV. Does it reduce detail further down (textures etc.) in portable mode then? Or?
@SanderEvers Sorry, it's just getting worse and worse. On top of logical fallacies you're now incorporating entire straw man arguments to drift even further from the core scope. I feel less and less inclined to continue on this matter trying to steer you back to the center while all you do is stray even further away from it. Let me give you one quick counter argument as example that won't take too much of my time to elaborate on: Zoink isn't bought or in any way owned by EA. Thanks for your time, but this isn't going to work. Peace out!
@SanderEvers Logical fallacies everywhere. Comparing No Man's Sky's situation to Fe's? Worst example case ever. Totally different scenario and circumstances. I'd like to see more sources regarding the development influence of EA on this little title on which you base your general argumentation upon. So far I still haven't seen any apart from "it's EA thus it's trash by default". After three decades of computing experience in virtually every segment on both software and hardware level it's safe to say for me that you are being incredibly short sighted. Again, this is your own right. But logical fallacies like these really don't help supporting your argumentation, at all. This is still largely based on opinion. Not fact. I commend your time and effort, but you're not fooling an industry veteran this easily anytime soon.
@SanderEvers You can disbelieve EA for saying you don't trust their money scheme. But for the love of... stop spouting nonsense. EA is a massive entity with many sub entities. Their "new" indie label is one of them. Zoink is an indie developer. Period. Fact. Not opinion. Fact. It's published by a smaller division of EA outside their regular money cow "triple A" shenanigans. Be stubborn all you want regarding the money business behind this title but DON'T talk silly nonsense about Zoink not being an indie developer just because they went with EA. The internet is filled with enough nonsense as it is. Facts, sources, supported argumentation, or hold your silence. Food for thought.
@Defeated_Hero Bless you for turning up here to chime in with all these welcome details. Huge fan of both GoF 2 and your(?) earlier engagements on the TouchArcade forums. Manticore coming to Switch is a dream come true as the FTP version left me heart broken as it did for many other TouchArcade gamers. Obviously I understand this from a business perspective in today’s mobile space, which is why I’ll pay the premium price on Switch in a heart beat if it fairs well. I mean... Reworked with passion for Switch. Physical controls. Solid performance. On the go or on TV. Seriously, I’m praying will all my might this game will be the answer to bringing back (some of) the magic feeling I got when first experiencing GoF 2 on my iPad 2 back in the day. In case it’s still not clear: coming back to Kirby and Donkey mentioned in your post... this could be a tie for me with Kirby. That’s how bad I want a new premium rich GoF experience. One closing question to my post: if the game does fair well on Switch, will there be any chance of future support? (Be it in the form patches for some time to come or perhaps new content?) Cheers and looking forward to the gameplay video. Best of luck to you and the team!
@EmirParkreiner Agree to disagree. One or two in my life is all I need, but is also all I got. Many shmup's don't strike a cord with me either because of the audio / visual presentation or general gameplay. This goes for all the titles you mentioned, for example. There is not a game in any genre I played this long and bought again on so many different systems. Started playing day 1 back in the Nokia Symbian days for which it originally came out. To this day I challenge anyone who can give me a schmup that I will like as much as Skyforce. Only when PC is thrown into the mix I can name equal fun experiences like Tyrian and Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Anything else on console or arcade does not have the amazing visual / audio presentation that can match it in my opinion. And for some reason even though it can be brutally hard gameplay wise just like other schmup's it's the only one I can accept it from. Again, probably thanks to the sheer sleek presentation in both audio and visual departments and continuous progression in whichever form. If you're up for it since you are a king in the genre, I'd happily challenge you to prove me wrong. Most games you mentioned I haven't played yet, so if there is ONE schmup you would recommend to me other than Skyfore, Tyrian or Raptor... let me know. I'm always open to new experiences. There are just so many and I only have so much time. And now I got Skyforce on my Switch (uh-oh. )
Despite all the firmware upgrades I still have had plenty times it would crash in sleep mode. Black screen. Only the right side bar would be rendered. None of the menu options did anything. Whoop... there goes another hard reset again. Oh dear... did... did I save my game? Oh no... It's a major bummer. Because it's a portable. And you should be able to resume your game after getting it out of your bag again no problem. My Switch feels unreliable and handicapped with this annoying problem. Please firmware, please end this problem once and for all!
@Geowolf There isn't much to say about the PC version compared to -for example- the XBOX One X version. Obviously it runs higher than 30 FPS, but it doesn't do anything groundbreaking in terms of assets or rendering techniques. Those are pretty much on par with the latest gen consoles. Also... hi! ;D
@ThomasBW84 It's truly appreciated. You and NL are the new TouchArcade for me. TA is great and I still follow it out of interest, but I've totally hopped over from iOS to Switch gaming. This site gets visited every day and read plentiful, not just the weekly release posts. But boy do I look forward to them each and every single Thursday. Keep it up!
@HG-Chris Very admirable statement. What players perhaps fear is that the eShop will be riddled with mobile phone game experiences making the software library a mess of console games and mobile ported games. In part I can truly understand that notion. Gear.Club turned me off a lot as it has all the mobile phone tropes still in the UI. It's like they only tweaked the graphics a little and removed the F2P elements. It simply doesn't have a "console feel" and totally feels like a mobile phone game. @Prof_Yoshtonics Check out Gear.Club. As an ex-iOS gamer that game was the last straw for me on that platform for not being premium. A dream has come true as it's not just being ported but gets a ton of new features AND a complete graphics overhaul in a completely premium package. I'll still wait for the reviews of course, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. It's due December 1st.
