A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Switch exclusive Gear.Club Unlimited 2, introducing players to the Performance Shop’s new features and car customisation options.
Your actions inside the Performance Shop can have great consequences in your on-track endeavours, with a surprisingly large number of edits and tweaks being available which can affect the behaviour of your ride. For example, driving a car which is too light, overly powerful, and fitted with standard tyres will be a nightmare to drive, making it harder to secure victory. You'll need to consider the actual characteristics of the materials you're using to be successful.

On top of that, and perhaps more just for a bit of fun, the trailer also shows off exactly how far you can go in your efforts to customise your car's appearance. You can change the paint job, add stickers, rotate and move the stickers to your liking, stack them on top of each other and colour them, and more, easily allowing you to make something very much your own. The customisation options arrive as just one of seven different workshops available to you:
- Mechanical Workshop: modify engines and gearboxes to make cars more powerful
- Body Workshop: reduce the weight of cars to make them faster
- Wind Tunnel: improve car aerodynamics
- Tires Workshop: change brakes and tires to improve grip
- Graphic Workshop: change colors and apply stickers to cars to make them unique
- Cosmetic Workshop: customize cars, from the hood to the spoiler!
- Rally Workshop: modify cars to compete on sand tracks in rally mode
The game is still scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch on 4th December. If you want to find out more about the game, make sure to check out the recent screenshots, trailer, and car roster reveal.

I’ve not watched the video yet but the first one had very similar options by the sound of it.... it had all the workshops and multiple ways to pimp your ride but even though the options sound deep and crazy and millions of combos - it was actually quite shallow and repetitive after a few hours of playing
Going to wait on reviews but I want a good racer on my Switch. Let’s see what the final product is like.
This game actually looks rather good. I hope the gameplay finishes being as good as the visuals and presentation, and we will finally have our own high-quality racing game, that can also be played on the go.
Recently finished all the championships in the first one. It's a nice arcade car game to pick up and play for short sessions. Seems this will be more of the same, but I'll probably get it. Hope for a bit more varied stages this time. Would also have loved it if they could get real life tracks included, but more licenced cars probably cost them enough...
@Mgene15 the first one on the switch was a port of the mobile phone game but I believe Gear Club 2 is exclusive to the switch I might be wrong though but I think they made it from the ground up for the switch.
Already looks much better than the first. Really hope they make improvements across the board, will be getting this day one barring horrible reviews!
@Mgene15
It appears you had some trouble posting your comment, resulting in a quintuple post. Please make sure to delete the extra four! ^^
@AlexSora89
Sorry about that, my service was terrible at that moment
Please be good! I need a racer that's not FAST or MK8 (though I do love these games as well)
i hope it turns out well.
@Mgene15
Nevermind, I know how it is sometimes. I've been in your shoes as well - sometimes the message won't be posted, and I keep hitting "reply", "reply", "reply" until my dumb self-portrait you see on the left starts flooding the place like an ugly parody of "Where's Waldo?".
ANALOGUE. TRIGGERS.
The vinyl and color customization is a great addition. Those were some of the problems I had with the first one. Another issue I had was the sound and music. So far it's a little better.
So I passed on the first one, but I'm thinking this one will be much more worth my time from what I've seen so far.
@icebear80 I too liked the first one, although races could be a tad short and it oversold customisation and rally... as neither were really implemented well...
are you really seeing much difference in this from vids, I am gonna get it coz I do love driving games... just interested if you think it looks much different? I think it looks much the same and haven't seen much to make me think... ah yeah this is a step up.
This need to rate pretty high for me to consider it over V-Rally 4. The first game while good left me wanting more.
@baller98 this one is supposed to be developped exclusively for Switch...
Bought the first one on day 1 sold it after 5months on ebay for a £10 loss so for £10 it was well worth it
it was just too arcady for me baring in mind the first was built for tilt controls.
it was far too easy to upgrade the cars past any competition the ai could give too
Waiting for V Rally 4 this time
Looks like the Mobile stuff people buy a Huawei phone to play.
Better just waiting for Forza Horizon 4 price drop to $50.
I was a fan of the first and completed all championships. It was fine for what it was (and given the dearth of good racers on the Switch). Not sure if I'm ready for round 2 yet . . . hoping the racing experience is enhanced . . .fewer roundabouts please!!!
So excited!!!!!!!!!
We need more racing.
@baller98 Grid looks fun, but I want a bit more realism. I'll most likely buy that one too though. Had forgotten about it, so thanks for the reminder
@Stocksy All we know is that this one is made with the Switch in mind, but the graphics doesn't look much improved too me either, but I'll play mostly handheld so it's fine by me. From the reveal trailer it looks like it has a bit more varied scenery than the first and we know they'll have more cars. Some wintery levels seem to be added. Always interesting to see how they apply the physics to that if there are snow or ice covered tracks
I wish we would get Burnout Paradise.
Need For Speed: Most Wanted on WiiU is still my go-to non-Mario Kart racer.
@bluedogrulez Totally agree with your view on roundabouts!!
Developers, if you read these comments, please explore a low resolution mode so we can enjoy 60 frames per second responsiveness. It's so essential in racing games!!
The first one was an upscaled mobile port and actually wasn't too bad all things considered...
This one is built for and is exclusive to the Switch... I expect it will be ALOT better.
Basically i am just as hyped for this as Smash... If not a bit more so, i been following it closely.
Honestly this looks about the same as the first game.
Made for Switch from the ground up ... great
Exclusive to Switch ... great
Lots of cars and customization ... great
Um.... where the hell is the online play?!?! I seriously need a racing game with realistic cars AND online play! I guess I should wait around for V Rally 4.
Looking pretty good so far. The first one was OK but being developed for mobile is what brought it down into the mediocre range. It wasn't designed for consoles, much less Switch specifically. The races were too short and the load times too long. The graphics were pretty good though and the tracks were decent. But the customization layout was made for a touch screen, and that did not translate well for console play.
This sequel though, it seems to be remedying all of those negatives. Not only is it being developed for dedicated video game hardware, it's being made for Switch ground up. Which means the goofy layout for customization will be built around a button control scheme, it means the tracks will actually be of adequate link, it means the game will be optimized and load times will not be so egregious, it means the graphics and performance will be significantly better and more stable, and it means they can build on their experience of the first game to simply make a better game over all, be it course design, traction and drifting mechanics, gameplay modes, etc.
I'm expecting good things from Gear Club 2. And if it turns out good I hope people go out and support it to show developers that consoles are still where it's at for development. That you will make more money and build a better reputation making games ground up for Nintendo Switch than you will developing for iOS/Android.
@Agramonte
You surmised all that from a video of customizations?
Nothing about this game looks "mobile", and certainly not to the extreme extent you claimed. The graphics look pretty impressive, and the customization options look remarkably similar to Forza Horizon, which is quite a boast to even appear to be in the ballpark of that game.
Forza is great. I own all 4 of them. But it's not the only realistic arcade racer people are going to want to play, just like Mario isn't the only 2-D Platformer people are going to want to play, regardless of whether it's the best.
And while the X1X is a lot smaller than the OG model and has the built in brick, it's still not going to serve as a good carry companion to take with you for playing at work and out and about. In which case you're not really better off saving $50 for that game. You're better off waiting for reviews of this game to see if it's good and then, making a decision accordingly.
For the record, I think this game looks incredible now that they're actually making it as a full console game and dedicated exclusive to take advantage of the hardware. It certainly shows. Fast Racing Neo was a good looking game, but this one may have it beat. Have to see some more in-depth gameplay first but, so far so good
I’ve got high hopes for this... Looking good from the trailer.
@LightyKD I would be very surprised if V-Rally 4 turns out to be a good game. It is already bad for PS4.
@PixelStef Damn! I was hoping for a different result :/
@LightyKD
I was also looking forward to some good old classic Moto Racer 4. But it does not even support online multiplayer... GRIP seems the way to go though, but far from realistic of course. Also waiting for a long time for 90s Super GP (Nicalis) but release date is said to be very soon, but only since some years now... I guess "very soon" is very subjective.
@baller98 Heck, if only Asphalt 9 would come to Switch. It has the most advanced rendering pipeline and techniques I've ever seen in a mobile game. So much so, that even DigitalFoundry took notice. As John himself put it at the end of his in depth analysis video: Asphalt 9 would be an incredible addition on Switch. That is, if it could even run it with all bells and whistles of course. Minus at least the HDR, obviously. From what I understood there will be a major difference in this one: not only is it built for the Switch from the ground up, but it will have that original EDEN DNA regarding having an open world like the Driver games. Not short races designed for the mobile phone gaming crowd.
Fingers crossed that it allows you to add neon lights and stereo system in the back. My teenage years were spent on customizing cars in NFS: Underground 2, but EA ultimately murdered the series.
