Re: eShop File Size Of Nintendo's New Switch Title Game Builder Garage Revealed

@RickD Makes sense. I kind of think they probably made some money on Labo anyway. I haven’t seen any extras on store shelves and the price point was pretty high. Either way, the system they built for it is solid so I’m glad to see them doing something with it. I’ve noticed a lot of colleges in the US opening up game development programs, so I think there will definitely be a lot of interest. Only thing is they should have slapped ‘Nintendo’ at the beginning of the logo.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Tired Of Ports And Remakes - Where Are All Nintendo's New Ideas?

Nintendo is most generous and experimental when they’re struggling or trying to fill in for third parties not being present. Think to all the creative things in the 3DS Wii U era. Just something like the Mario v DK amiibo game seems like something they wouldn’t do now. Labo, ring fit and Mario Kart Home Circuit are still 10 times more interesting than what other companies are doing, but it still feels like things are missing. We thought that we were gonna get all the handheld and console games together and it doesn’t seem like we’re getting that.

@RobotReptile As a former employee I can speak to that. The family that ranFamily Video would always buy the property the store was on outright. I think that’s why they just lasted longer. Their stores never had to cover rent, just utilities and payroll. Lots of people wondered how we stayed in business but it was really just responsible management.

Crazy to see a story about this on Nintendolife. It’s mostly a US Midwest thing. I worked there for 3 years actually starting in 2013. It’s crazy how even then there were people who thought video stores were all gone. People forget that at the beginning of this last decade, most people still didn’t have smart phones or stream any video. For context, back then we had almost 800 stores. Even for a small store, we were usually really busy, like 4 people on the clock on a weekend night. Honestly, it was more fun to me than the job I had bartending before. Also, Family Video was just such a nice, organized store with a well curated library. I stopped in tonight to grab up some sales and got Astral Chain for 20. I’d rather have the store back though. Heres to hoping that someone will find a new twist on the video store in the future.

Re: Anniversary: Pokémon Stadium 2 Launched 20 Years Ago Today In Japan

Will never forget how I got this. Gave my mon the money to pick it up for me while I was on a 3 day school field trip to Washington DC. We played gold and silver all the way there and back and when I got home Stadium 2 was waiting for me. Was nice to know that however much I liked the trip, I’d have a sweet new game to play at the end.

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

I bought a Used one in holiday of 2015. I felt late to the game but it was only 2 years old, and it was dead by then too. I got it off the Nintendo.com online store and still can’t believe the insane deals I found on some games on there. Mario Kart 8 and New Mario U for just 20 bucks. I defended Star Fox when it came out, but there really wasn’t much else coming out back then. Still play it fairly often.

Re: Did You Miss Out On The Super Mario Anniversary Pin Set? You're Not Alone

This really upsets me. I can’t even log onto Mario Kart Tour without an error code... and even if I were awarded the credit for doing so, it’s not till the 28th... whoops, too late. I give Nintendo a lot of passes and defend them a lot, but putting out a pin set I never had a chance of getting is not fair to me and not fair to other loyal fans.
