Re: Review: World of Goo (WiiWare)

Peznaze

Wow, 10/10... perfection! And so quickly reviewed, too! Shocking to see, congratulations to the Goo Corporation!

I'll be passing, though, I think... It'd take longer for me to download than it will take to win, so... not really worth it for me.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: World Of Goo & Art Style: Cubello

Peznaze

Interesting... Another Art Style game so soon... Nintendo's October WiiWare release, too. Which means in 2-3 weeks we'll probably be seeing Rotohex for Nintendo's November game... Art Style games are great and all, but could it be they're delaying other Nintendo WiiWare?

Great week. Something for everyone, something good for everyone, at that. Now to find out how many blocks and levels World of Goo is...

Re: Sorry Kids – You're Not Allowed To Share Your Nintendo Points

Peznaze

Yeah, they did it to make money, but also for security. This way a device can only access points that were registered on that device, so it's not likely anyone will be able to guess your password, register their DS to someone else's Nintendo account and drain all your points kind of thing... You need the device that the points were registered with to access them.

If there is a DSiVC, it'll probably do vintage handheld systems, GB, GBA, GG, and such... or so I'd think. Which would be awesome, yet sad that it would mean no GB/GBA games on Wii's VC.

Re: Confusion Reigns over Mega Man 9 Sales

Peznaze

That is an interesting point... 140,000 in one week on all PS3's, Xbox360s AND Wiis, combined... Could well be too low. But it is impossible to gauge accurately and any number you hear will be a total guess, NPD, VGChartz, Magic 8-Ball, they'll all be equally accurate and the companies don't release such information.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Sept)

Peznaze

People love to watch fish... very relaxing. At least, this week that's what they like.

I'm impressed with Defend Your Castle. Launch title, STILL one of the most downloaded titles! Amazing. Strong Bad should start to fall soon, but will be replaced by... Strong Bad! (ep. 2) Actually, part 2 could boost sales of part 1 for those who missed it, but more likely only a portion of purchasers will be continuing... We'll see.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (27th August)

Peznaze

It isn't updated weekly, it's updated in real-time, but it does only count "recent" sales. How far back they count is unknown. So we will see older titles fall off the list. What it really shows is which titles have "legs". Defend Your Castle has massive, Usain Bolt type "legs". Major League Eating, not so much. Six weeks to fall off? Not good. A new stat for "Weeks in the Top 20" would probably be a good idea for this list.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Midnight Pool

Peznaze

Ah, once again the Regginator's Drunken Staggering issues forth a surprise from one of its many orifices...

800 points and 312 blocks? I'll wait on a stellar review of the best use of a Wiimote in a pool game before even thinking of getting this one...

Re: Review: My Aquarium (WiiWare)

Peznaze

Hmm.. I really hope the reaction to tapping the glass is finding some dead fish floating in the tank the next day...

Sounds like a nice aquarium simulator, but I've got one already, so... I'm good.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (13th August)

Peznaze

Again, this list does not mean that Pong Toss has outsold Toki Tori. Just that Pong Toss has been downloaded more than Toki Tori over the last few days/weeks/month. Which is 100% believable, but in NO WAY shows how successful a title is/was. All this list shows is what's being downloaded "right now", so of course older titles will fall off the list.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (13th August)

Peznaze

Again, the way the list works has "changed". We either hit the upper limit of how far back they count sales, people found out re-downloads count and are abusing it, or Nintendo decided to change how it's tabulated to prevent Pokemon from reigning forever.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (13th August)

Peznaze

@hansolo350
Weekly is unlikely. The list updates instantly. The question is, how far back do they count sales? That might be a week... How many it's sold within the last 7 days... possible, but I'd think a little longer than that. Again, we clearly don't know how this list works, all we can say it that it shows what's popular "right now".

Re: Space Invaders Get Even - Stage Pack Details

Peznaze

Hmm... If it's "you have to buy all the DLC to see the game to its end", then BOO!!!!!

If, however, it's "you get one level for $5, additional levels for varying enjoyment cost $5 for packs of 2", then OK, that's just fine. Star Soldier R might have done a lot better if you could have changed up the stages with some DLC...

Still not enough info to grab the pitchforks and torches...

Re: Could Elite 4 Be Headed To WiiWare?

Peznaze

Unlikely to hit the Wii, it's more the sort of game they'll want too graphically over-engineer to the point where it looks really, really great but plays like a ball and cup with a string attaching them.

I played Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga, I loved that game... Still play it from time to time. I'd love to see it come again, but I'm not holding my breath for a WiiWare version.

Re: Gameshastra To Bring Tumblebugs To WiiWare

Peznaze

Price will filter out clones, I think. If it's 1000 points, it'll sell even lower than Magnetica. If it's 500 points, it'll outsell Dr. Mario, provided it's not horribly broken in some way.

Every time they release "more of the same" sorts of things on WiiWare, the latter releases seem to sell worse.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (6th August)

Peznaze

I think Terranigma hit a very valid point.. I really don't see how WiiWare could be selling more than thens of thousands for moves of this magnitude to be happening in just one week.

As for Pong Toss, yup.. It's a drinking game, just use your own beverage with whatever kick you enjoy (sugar, caffeine, alcohol) and play... I think there's also the "everyone watches for the crashes!" thing going on... The game's not really a 1/10, it's just not much fun.

I wonder if a "Lawn Darts" or "Horseshoes" games would sell as well... Would help determine if its the Tossing or the drinking that's selling this one.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Wild West Guns

Peznaze

It's like Link's Crossbow Training, but lets 2P play at the same time instead of taking turns, either co-op or competitive.

I'd not make any predictions on WiiWare, judging by the VC this week... Next week we're just as likely to see My Aquarium as Plattchen/Helix/Strongbad. Or even Home Sweet Home. Or some other game we've never even heard of. The Regginator's Drunken Staggering cannot be predicted, or even "confirmed!"

Re: Gravitronix - Still Alive And Kicking!

Peznaze

With a name like Gravitronix, I'd leap to the (probably erroneous) conclusion that someone's having fun with the universal gravitation formula. With the Wiimote, that could be very interesting... but we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Major League Eating: Kodiak Bear Unleashed

Peznaze

A press release for an easter egg in their game... sales must really be bad.. but... they're not..? It's high up on the top WiiWare list, so it can't be low sales... Why are they... Hmm... Very strange development, this.

Re: Official Potpourrii Trailer

Peznaze

Ah WiiWare.. The puzzler player's dream platform! Looks like another worthy addition to the ranks. Although, with so many puzzle games, it may be hard to find an audience. Except, of course, those who devour puzzle games and have an unending appetite for more, more, *more*!

Re: Review: Wild West Guns (WiiWare)

Peznaze

Interesting... Sounds like your enjoyment of the game would be largely based on how much you value 1000 points. If that's a lot to you, you won't like this so much. If it's not so many points to you, you'll enjoy it.

I wonder which will happen first... more content in 1000 point games or less than 1000 point prices for games that aren't quite "all there", so to speak.

Re: Braben: LostWinds Was Almost Cancelled

Peznaze

"de-risking"... what an odd term. What he means, of course, is that they could do this one on the cheap so it was a lot easier to get (less) money for it. I think "on the cheap" would be better suited to WiiWare, though.

And yes, Frontier remake would be amazing.

Re: Space Invaders Get Even To Come With Bargain Price Tag

Peznaze

I'd agree with that. Someone, at least, has been paying attention. 800, 700, these are not viewed as "bargain" pricing for WiiWare. Only the magic 500 price point is.

All it makes me fear now, though, is that the game is really short/not that great. Here's hoping it's another DYC!

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (30th July)

Peznaze

TV Show King... cementing itsself as a top 5 title.. HOW?! It's a very, very poor quiz game. I guess the fact that it's the only quiz game gives it a boost...

Yes, we are suckers for anything with "Pirates" in the title. As I said, if it had "Ninja" in the title as well, it'd break into the top 5.

I'd think the next game to break into the top 5 will be Megaman 9. If it doesn't, I'll be shocked. Tetris Party... will do ok, but there're too many other puzzlers out there and the Wii Fit is still so very hard to find that balance board support is meaningless.

The "casual" and/or "unique" games do well, and hover around the mid-section of this chart. Critter Round-Up, I guess, just proves that nobody wants to pay $10 for Qix.

Re: Review: Frat Party Games - Pong Toss (WiiWare)

Peznaze

A 2? Ouch! Though I do get the idea that it's because the reviewer doesn't like Pong Toss rather than this being a poorly implemented version of Pong Toss. But then, even the perfect translation of Pong Toss to video gaming wouldn't be all that great...

What's most shocking to me, is that it seems to me they sat on Helix and some other games to release this one. Or... Oooh.. there's a thought... Maybe Nintendo does do quality control... if they play your game and find it to be a "2", they send you word it stinks, but it's up to the developer to fix it or not... So then the others that are taking ages to come along are actually constantly being reworked... Nah... That's silly.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Pong Toss

Peznaze

Ooh... the drama.. Will Pong Toss push Star Soldier R off the chart? Well, almost certainly... But will it manage it by Wednesday? We shall see...

I really, really don't get the WiiWare scheduling thing. I'm fairly sure Helix was submitted before this, along with a few other games, yet this comes first? It's very odd, to say the least.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (23rd July)

Peznaze

Yup, too few pay attention to reviews or quality, they've only got the Wii Shop descriptions to go by. Thus Star Soldier R is doomed. SPOGS, the worst WiiWare has to offer, will continue to rise as it's the only racing WiiWare. Magnetica came too late... Dr. Mario stole all it's sales. Major League Eating isn't a bad game, so I'm not shocked to see it where it is, but I thought it'd be higher by now... I guess the digestive system stigma is hindering sales.
