Could this be the game that takes Star Soldier R's place? Sadly, it's got the word "Pirates" in the title, so no... If it had the word "Ninja" in the title, too, it'd be a top-seller, in fact!
I thought Helix had a "June" date, and "Home Sweet Home" was expecting a launch "any week now" or some such... Much as I'd love to see SBCG4AC and Plattchen in the next two weeks, I'm not going to even think that the games even exist, it's just nowhere near even likely they'll come that quick.
They say the game seems harder than the old Mega Man games, but probably due to aging reflexes. Nobody's complaining about the difficulty, either... They're praising it.
Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, to my recollection, was far, far harder than Mega Man.
Hmm.. I was sure it'd get a 7/10, too. But it really is just a mini-game collection with too few modes, so I can see the repetitive complaint.
I'm not shocked that here in the US where burping, slurping, and generally anything at all to do with digestion is considered taboo there'd be lots of closed-minded people who wouldn't even consider it worth mentioning... I wonder if Wario Ware gets that kind of treatment?
Interesting that Cocoto Fishing and Block Breaker Deluxe move as if they're joined at the hip. They launched the same week and have stayed close to each other ever since.
MLE made it to 16, eh? I'm sure it'll climb higher than that by next week.
Star Soldier... There's got to be a lesson learned from that. Gyrostarr shows that it's not "shumps don't sell"... Lostwinds shows that it's not "short play time = low sales"... I wonder what it is... probably "Don't advertise the fact your game only lasts 5 minutes, tops."
Ah, Now I see. Nintendo released this game this week, in the shadow of E3, so that it would be ignored completely! Boy, Mastiff must have really made Nintendo mad; their game got the shoddiest treatment of all WiiWare.
The point of virtual over real is that you can mix fish that normally couldn't be together for various reasons, and still enjoy the tranquil stress relief of an aquarium.
Still, I'd rather have Insaniquarium or my real one.
@Outrunner With what? The game crashes Wiis? Controls are unresponsive? Graphics glitchy? What about the quality of the game is uncontrolled? Or are you just complaining about the genre, the venue?
Yup, "Day late and a dollar short" for me. And of course it's going to outsell Star Soldier R - every single WiiWare does that in a day and a half, tops.
I've always been sure it'll be a good game for the minigame crowd, those that aren't too sensitive to play it. I suspect it will rank up there with Cocoto Fishing, Game Show King, Family Table Tennis... So by Wednesday... maybe top 10. Next Wednesay, floating around the mid top ten... 6, I'd guess.
Major League Eating helps keep you healthy, too. All the fun of a pie-eating contest, but zero calories... In fact, you will burn calories wagging the Wiimote about as you virtually eat.
Heh.. I had a feeling. "Day late and a dollar short" is what will be my reply on Monday when we find out the price point.
"Day Late" because it's talking about the 4th of July on the 14th. Sorry, everyone's already forgotten about that by now. Too late. And why mention Bastille Day? Very strange, that. Unless your game features a guillotine somehow, utterly irrelevant.
"Dollar Short" because there's little chance this will clock in under 1000 points - not with online play and all the money invested in this by Mastiff. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes in at 1500, but that would totally kill any potential sales. 1000 is even a tad high.
Still, though it is the worst possible launch date I could imagine and will likely be too costly for "try it and see" type sales, it will do well. Online pie-eating contest, that's "casual gold". BallKirby1 is right though, if you could use your Miis it'd sell a lot better. Still, it'll be up there sales-wise with TV Show King in all likelihood.
It's Pay&Play, not Pay2Play. Difference being, you do not need to buy any of the DLC to play and fully enjoy the game. That said, the DLC does add replay value to the game.
Shocked, I am... Shocked at how people react to the obvious news that Megaman 9 will be on XBLA and PSN, too.
Does nobody remember? Can't any of you recall what the term "exclusive" means for video games?
Megaman 9 will be a WiiWare exclusive, until it launches on XBLA and PSN. This would be my guess, this is how it has always been, and how it shall be forever more. You should all recall the terms "3-month exclusive" or "6-month exclusive", same deal here.
Moreover, there's nothing wrong with Capcom making money wherever they can. It's a great game, share the love, I say.
You have to understand - most WiiWare shoppers clearly only have the little blurb in the Wii Shop to go by when deciding. They don't know any better, and never see reviews. Thus you see SPOGS doing better than it should. And also, you see Star Soldier R, which tells you right on its info page that it's at most a 5-minute game, doing the worst of all. Maybe if they linked Nintendo Channel ratings to the Wii Shop things would change.
Default WiiWare pricing... No reason to lower it, the demand is high enough. No reason to raise it, it's got no extras over a 500 point Megaman NES VC title. Still, this is worth 1000, unlike most other WiiWare games that come in at that price.
So now we have a game that is unquestionably the worst of WiiWare thus far. Now, will it plummet to the bottom of the downloads charts? Will the obscure popularity of pogs send these flaming racing spogs to some sort of profitability? Only time will tell.
What I find... odd... is that Nintendo so far has stuck weaker titles in packs of two or with a stronger title to prevent a "bad week". But SPOGS launched solo. So now I've got to think that either there is too few WiiWare available now that they're comfortable doing that or that someone at Nintendo actually thought this was a good game. The latter being most likely... someone (whose opinion matters in these things) liked this game.
Ah, poor Mastiff. Major League Eating gets snubbed yet again. Something must be horribly wrong with their game. Or maybe they got Nintendo mad.
SPOGS is sounding, from what I'm reading, to be a very mediocre title, especially at 1000 points and 264 blocks. But then, I think it is ready for a EU release, too... so next Friday they'll likely get this across the pond along with whatever title NA gets next Monday.
This is very interesting. No, not the game, this news. Nintendo is spending, it seems, far, far more time and energy on "quality control" of WiiWare than they do on disc-based games. Plattchen can't use the Bongos. Beer Pong can't have Beer. And my own personal theory, if they don't think your game is very good, it goes on the pile of games to be saved in case of an "Empty Week" while the good games get fast-tracked to release.
As for this censorship - it's odd. Everyone knows you replace Beer with Soda Pop, that's the natural order. To remove all liquid from a drinking game? That's just stupid.
Ah, poor Mastiff. Nathan's Hot Dog Contest was one for the books this year. Joey Chestnut against Kobayashi... Tied at 59 dogs each, had to go to a 5-dog tie breaker... All over every newscast, too. Just like every year. Was the game available to capitalize on all this wondrous free publicity? Translate it into massive sales? Nope. Reggie decided it wasn't time to release it yet.
Two titles a fortnight... I guess that five language thing really slows down the releases of WiiWare... I wonder if NA releases need three languages...
Interesting... Sounds like a total guess on their part. Or rather, "last time we submitted, they came back in X weeks saying it would be released, but then we had to change something and resubmit, so why wouldn't it take X weeks again this time?" sort of thing. Which would be fine, if WiiWare releases behaved in an even remotely logical fashion - they don't.
It'll be a good game, but I don't expect it in July, or even August.
@FalloutBR We don't know for certain that it's all-time downloads, but it's unlikely to be just this week - looking at the VC charts, new games tend to take a week or two to bust into the top 20. But since they do, it could very well be a monthly affair, if not all-time.
Cocoto Fishing Master... knocking at MLaaK's door... Just goes to show, the premise of the game is far, FAR more important than the quality of the game. Or maybe Cocoto's built up a following with their games. A good fishing WiiWare game, I can see doing well, but this one is nothing like a good fishing game. But most don't know that when downloading it, I suspect.
I wonder if the new DLC will give a booster shot to MLaaK downloads... though that high on the list, it'd be hard to discern.
Gyrostarr cracked the top five in one week? Wow, impressive for a non-branded title.
If that EU list is any measure, I suspect Magnetica will stagnate at the bottom of the NA list, probably for the same reason I can't justify buying it... I already have Dr. Mario.
It can't just be Pokemon, EU only gets WiiWare every other week, so one would assume a minimum of two titles. But then, expecting sense from a board room isn't very sensible.
Interesting to note, their "simultaneous (or as near as makes sense to us)" thing seems to trump their "one title per publisher per month" thing.
Sounds like a solid game, who knows why they turned it down. Could be "not original enough", could be "imitatable acts" (molotovs), could be Pug Phobia... We'll never know, let's just hope either Eternity's Child does well enough that Luc Bernard will have to beat the publishers off with a stick, or that he'll keep shopping around for someone willing to make it.
The Infinity Spire is supposed to be a loooong dungeon, not sure on teh details, they seem to have vanished. The Library gives your adventurers race-specific abilities, (and the dungeon you need to clear to get it is level 100 on Hard with a lifebar boss, or so they say...) All in all, it's a good addition to MLaaK.
So... that OFLC rating that classified it as "multi-platform" was a mistake..?
And since when does a game need to be exclusive to a service to be good? I'm sure the game will be great, no matter what consoles or cell phones are able to play it.
Well, now you have reason to go back - new DLC in the US. Castle Upgrade, Eternity Tower, Library, Chime's Summer Outfit. There's an update you need to get first, though.
And a warning, they say the dungeon that lets you build a Library is level 100 with a life bar boss on Hard.
Nintendo tests all WiiWare before release. They told Plattchen that Bongos were no longer supported and asked that they remove that feature. So they did, replacing it with a "shared wiimote/nunchuck" 8P mode that their PR people say is "much better".
What? Magnetica? Really? How very odd. Just goes to show that the Regginator's Drunken Staggering defies prediction. And logic. And common sense. And his own rules.
As for MLE, I really hope Mastiff's filing suit. Nobody cares about MLE on any day other than July 4th. Nintendo just destroyed a huge chunk of their potential sales. Just like the Grinch actors couldn't go on strike during the holiday season, to not have MLE available when Nathan's Hot Dog Contest happens is no good for their business.
Another 1 WiiWare week, and a repeat publisher in the same month. Makes one think there's very, very, very little available WiiWare left to release at present. Wonder what's taking so long?
As they say, when a door is closed, a window gets opened.
I wonder if this has to do with the weak dollar and strong euro again... people love to blame things on the weak dollar and strong euro. I say, "Bollocks!".
I thought we already knew the EU schedule was like this... What's stupid about it is that they do 5 VC titles and then 2 WiiWare... It's bi-weekly, it should be 3-4 WiiWare, minimum.
So it's going to be a good week for EU when VC comes along but a poor week when WiiWare comes?
Now, see, THIS is what Virtual Console is all about. All the glory of the 8-bit pinnacle of gaming with all new gameplay! So, of course, it can't be VC, but WiiWare, since it's "new" old. Going to be amazing, can't wait.. want now..
TV Show King suffers from several problems. It's simply not well-made. Yes, they could have added, say, "Personal Trivia", where the user(s) could input a hundred or more questions of their own to tailor the game to their tastes, or other features... But they didn't, and really had no need to - people buy it because everyone loves a game show, especially multiplayer. I really think Major League Eating could be a massive, massive hit with this Wii audience - everyone loves a pie-eating contest, too.
The top 6 and bottom 2 have been fairly constant for a while now. (Pokemon was assumed to be #1 for ages, even before it came out. ) The middle games, though, have been in flux quite a bit. This leads me to believe that the overriding mechanic at work here is "It's new" vs. "It's old". New stuff's getting downloaded more, old stuff's getting ignored. Cocoto, Block Breaker and Gyrostarr are up (Gyrostarr might crack the top 6, almost assuredly will create a top 7), Toki Tori, Protothea, Blackjack, these are down. Pop just got displaced by Gyrostarr, so that really just held its place...
Nice. I can see it getting a EU release and, of course, a JP release, but no way in the world would it get a US release. Asterix is still popular, Hello Kitty, check... Batman? Superman? Iron Man? Hulk? Only in the movies. Their books are all but dead.
Yikes. Methinks we need an "ignore user" function. Too much "noise" in this thread. I wonder if this level of, um, enthusiasm, will translate to high sales for Gyrostarr.
Back to one WiiWare, which either means the two last week were known to Nintendo to be "weak" or they thought they'd have more by now, but they haven't materialized quickly enough. I'd suspect it's one a week for a while... Though next week, hopefully, will be Major League Eating, so they may toss another in there with that...
They said they have upcoming announcements with a company that knows the top ten of video game charts really well. So, since they already do XBLA games, that leaves DS or Wii, probably WiiWare.
If true, it'll be nice... I wonder if I would still enjoy Tempest...
EU still hasn't gotten High Voltage Software's other *cough* game... VIP Casino Blackjack. Though you did get Actionloop before Pokemon, so there's hope you'll see Gyrostarr before Blackjack.

The middle games, though, have been in flux quite a bit.
Very fascinating data.
Re: Sunsoft To Bring Digital Comics To WiiWare In Japan
Nice. I can see it getting a EU release and, of course, a JP release, but no way in the world would it get a US release. Asterix is still popular, Hello Kitty, check... Batman? Superman? Iron Man? Hulk? Only in the movies. Their books are all but dead.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Gyrostarr
Re: Imagination Is The Only Escape May Be Coming To WiiWare
In the words of the arsonist bug monster... "Good, good.."
Re: RUMOUR: PopCap Games To Develop For WiiWare?
They said they have upcoming announcements with a company that knows the top ten of video game charts really well. So, since they already do XBLA games, that leaves DS or Wii, probably WiiWare.
Re: Gyrostarr hits WiiWare this Monday!
