Re: Disney And Dotemu Releasing LucasArts Classic Games On Switch eShop Next Month

Oh_Well

This is amazing news. Shortly after the release of the Blizzard Arcade Collection, I actually started a thread asking for a LucasArts Collection, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors was at the top of my want list for that collection. I’ll be buying this day one, but I hope they do multiple volumes as there is an incredible catalogue of games there. Herc’s Adventures is a criminally underrated game that I would love to see released on the Switch

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 8th)

Oh_Well

Bought South Park Stick of Truth in the Switch sale last week; I'm only a casual fan of the series, but this is a really solid RPG, and I'm liking it quite a bit. I should finish that this weekend. I also finally started Miles Morales this week, so I might end up finishing that this weekend too.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 1st)

I put about 15 hours into Hades when it came out last year, but I would always get to Hades and then die. I finally picked it back up this last week and got my first clear. Now that I've achieved that milestone, I feel satisfied with the game for now and think I'll look for something else to play, but I will certainly attempt more clears at some point in the future. I also beat Stitchy in Tooki Trouble this week, which was pathetically short. I actually think it was a great little platformer with good controls and a bit of charm, but right as I was starting to get into it, it was over. I liked it, but couldn't recommend it at the same time. I still need to finish Last of Us 2, so maybe that should be my project for the weekend.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 24th)

I know it's almost like a right of passage, but I had never actually beaten the original Super Mario Bros. on NES. I finally righted that long-overdue travesty this week. With that out of the way, I'm itching to get lost in a good story, so maybe I'll fire up my PS4 and tackle Last of Us 2, which I started but never finished. On the Switch, I picked up Stitchy in Tooki Trouble; I think it's a bit easy, but I also think the review was a little harsh. If you like Donkey Kong Country, it really is an enjoyable little romp so far.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

Oh_Well

DuckTales Remastered was a top-three game for me on the WiiU, and I've beaten it every year since it released. I already talked about the virtual console and how great it is, but, alongside DuckTales, there are still some games you can't yet get on Switch. Of course, there are the Zelda remasters, though I suspect those will get ported this year. I also thought Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate was phenomenal, and it's only available on the WiiU and the Vita, I think. The NES Remix games are pretty cool, so is Nintendoland. I never hear anyone talk about Mario vs. Donkey Kong Tipping Stars. I know it's one of the weaker entries in the series, but I still think it's a great game, and it's still exclusive to the Switch. Then you've got stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Color Splash, so I think there's still some meat on the ole WiiU bones.

Edit: Just looked it up, Blackgate pretty much came out on everything that generation. Still, an underrated game that isn't available on the switch.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

Oh_Well

In my entertainment center, I have room for six consoles to be hooked up, and this is always one of them. To me, the virtual console alone is worth the price of admission as it allows me to play some of the greatest hits from NES, SNES, N64, GBA, and TurbroGraphx 16 all on one machine. Combine that with the fact that it can also play Wii games, and it really is one of the most diverse systems Nintendo has ever released. I run the WiiU alongside my switch, my gamecube, my backwards compatible PS3, and my PS4. Those five consoles allow me to play almost anything I want without having to fumble around and hook up a different system.

Re: Konami España Hints At More Switch News To Come

Oh_Well

I love the Castlevania collection we already have, but I always felt it was begging for a part 2. I mean, why else would you leave off Symphony of the Night and the excellent GBA games. If I had to guess what is most likely to come of this, that would be it. I would also buy the MGS collection again should they decide to release that on switch, but that would really need to also include the original MGS for me to triple dip at this point.

Re: Square Enix Confirms Plans For E3 2021

Oh_Well

@Friendly A Lufia collection would be amazing. I still maintain that Lufia II is the best RPG on the SNES. Chrono Trigger is a pretty close second for me, and then the Final Fantasy series was a distant third. So, I would buy a Lufia collection day one, but I don't know how much control SE would have over the franchise as they were just one of several publishers. Natsume was the developer I believe.

Re: Japan Voted On Final Fantasy's Best Games And Characters - Do You Agree With The Ranking?

Oh_Well

VII is still my favorite in the series by a long shot. The materia system is my absolute favorite magic system in an RPG ever. I really love the simplicity of IV, though, so it's probably in the two-spot for me. Most of the time, the series seems to be trying to juggle all the elements of a 14-year-old's wet dream - sorcery, giant Kiaju monsters, robots, lasers, space exploration, lost cities, time travel. VII is definitely guilty of that as well, but IV's story is so much more memorable to me because it's just done well and it's very to-the-point. In that regard, I really like the original on the NES as well, and I'd probably put it at three. IX is really solid, and kind of reminiscent of IV in some ways, so it's fourth. Ten would probably fifth then.

Long story short:
VII
IV
I
IX
X
VI
XIII
VIII
XII

I have never played the others.

Re: Talking Point: Are You A 'Complete-In-Box' Or 'Loose Cart' Retro Gamer?

Oh_Well

I'm a little bit all over the place on this topic. All of my NES, SNES, and N64 games are cart and manual. I then put them in custom cases so they are uniform on the shelf. I think I've gone this route just because the old cardboard boxes don't hold up, and it is so expensive to collect CIB for those systems. I do have a few CIB cardboard box games that are my absolute favorites like DuckTales, Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past, and Donkey Kong Country Country, which I have displayed separately. With Genesis, though, I absolutely won't put a game in my collection unless it's CIB, probably because the plastic clamshells hold up so much better. All my disc-based games and my Switch games have to be CIB also. With Game Boy and GBA, for whatever reason, I'm fine with cartridge only. Sealed game collecting is a foreign concept to me that I would only consider if I were looking to get one of my all-time favorites graded for display purposes.

Edit: I am a total snob when it comes to Gamecube, PS1, and PS2. I will absolutely never add Player's Choice games to my Gamecube collection or Greatest Hits games to my Playstation collections. The color change on the spine drives me insane.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th March (North America)

Oh_Well

After reading the NL review, I have wishlisted Kaze. I'll pick it up at some point as Donkey Kong Country is among my favorite games of all time. My backlog is already crying, though, and the gaming funds are a bit depleted after buying Crash 4 this month. Plus, if Shredder's Revenge were to suddenly be given a release date next month, I've got to have some money lying around for that day-one purchase.

Re: Feature: Best SNES RPGs

Oh_Well

Hot take: Lufia II is the best 16-bit RPG, period. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV are both incredible as well. Final Fantasy VI is overrated. There, I said it.

Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Confirmed For 2021 Switch Release

Oh_Well

@FluffiestP1llow Strangely, I've never played the Skate games, but I know a lot of people that speak highly of them. As long as we're throwing around wish lists for over-the-top sports games, how about an NBA Street revival. I would simply love a straight port of Volume 2, but I'm sure that's an impossibility due to licensing issues.

Re: Review: Taxi Chaos - A Crazy Taxi Spiritual Successor That Fails To Go The Extra Mile

Oh_Well

I was excited for this and pre-ordered despite the high price tag. I played for about thirty minutes over lunch, and I was pretty disappointed. It's not objectively bad as it does run smoothly, and the jumping mechanic can be fun when you're able to find a rooftop shortcut, but it all feels a little soulless. The music is really bland, and the sense of speed is a bit lacking. I'll give it another shot tonight and see if anything changes with some of the unlockable taxis, but I'm not feeling very optimistic. Had I known prior to preordering that Crazy Taxi was still available on the PS3 store for $10, I most certainly would have just gone that route.
