Re: Video: Here's How The Witcher 3 On Switch Compares To The PS4 Version

OhHiMark

It's so mind-boggling that they got this running on a handheld (which is the main appeal of this version). Like yes, there will be some visual and technical compromises, but to be fair, The Witcher 3's main strengths are its narrative and side quests, and I can't see them cutting any of that. Just hope the framerate stays near 30fps.

Re: Review: Slay the Spire - A Sublime Fusion Of Genres You Simply Have To Experience

OhHiMark

Been playing Slay the Spire since February on PC, and it's easily my favorite game of the year so far. Definitely buying again for Switch and maybe even Android when that comes later this year.

It's a lot of fun and rarely frustrating. In other roguelikes, a lot of your runs get screwed by RNG and feel impossible to win unless you luck out with overpowered items and boosts. Slay the Spire never feels that way as you can make it to the end somewhat consistently on the base difficulty if you are smart and strategic with your deck management. Ascension levels are a different story, but those are for when you master the game.

Re: Smash Ultimate Exceeds 12 Million Worldwide Sales, Top Ten Best-Selling Switch Games Revealed

OhHiMark

12 million sold in three weeks on a console with an install base of a little over 30 million. That's just absurd and pretty much unheard of. As incredible as SSBU's performance and sales are, I think Pokemon 2019 (and possibly even Animal Crossing) will smash (sorry) these records. It's going to be a monster. And just imagine if there's a cheaper Switch revision to go along with it. Oh, boy...

Re: The Switch Port Of Bayonetta 2 Has Outsold Its Sister Version On Wii U

OhHiMark

I do find it incredibly amusing how every time Nintendo announces a Wii U port to Switch, everyone in the comments suddenly owns a Wii U and every game for it. We either have a case of a very vocal minority who are obviously not the intended audience anyway, or people are just making [removed] up in order to hate on the Switch. This is very unique situation and certainly justifies ports: a handful of outstanding games that are underplayed and underappreciated because they just so happened to release on a failure of a console (similar to what happened with the Dreamcast). Nintendo is very smart in re-releasing these games and there certainly is a demand for them, although whether or not they should be fully-priced is a different discussion entirely.

Re: Nintendo Expects To Sell Another 20 Million Switch Consoles This Financial Year

OhHiMark

As much as I love Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Bayonetta, they're not huge sellers. The only games I could see moving units like this would be a Pokemon, a 2D Mario, Smash Bros, or an Animal Crossing. I could also see a big third party port (like the rumored GTA V or Call of Duty) moving quite a few units because of the portability. Unless Nintendo somehow thinks the Labo will take off and become the must-have toy in town by the holiday season (not for me, but there's certainly potential there).

Re: Indie Smash Undertale Is Coming To Switch "Eventually"

@AlexSora89

"Is the game revolutionary, though? Only in the eyes of its fans. You can only reinvent the wheel so many times."

Whether true or not you have to actually play/experience something before making a claim like that. It's certainly polarizing and I totally get why people would worship or despise this game, but it is extremely unusual and surprising in a way that few games are. Whether that's a pro or a con is up to the individual. In all fairness though, I don't think I would call any game of the last couple of years "revolutionary" except perhaps Breath of the Wild or NieR: Automata in certain aspects.

Re: Indie Smash Undertale Is Coming To Switch "Eventually"

OhHiMark

@AlexSora89 I never understood the "I'm sure it's a good game but I refuse to play it because of the fanbase!" stance. I mean if you are curious about a particular game, play it and judge it/love it/hate it on its own merits. I personally cannot stand the elitist and overly defensive Dark Souls community and avoid any forums related to it, but it's still one of my all-time favorite games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st February (North America)

OhHiMark

For anyone who has yet to play them, Night in the Woods and Crypt of the Necrodancer are essential. Even if you don't like roguelikes, you should give Crypt a chance as it is a very unique spin on the genre and has an outstanding soundtrack. I'll happily be purchasing both of these again.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Riding High On Switch's Wave, But What Does It Need To Do To Stay There?

OhHiMark

This is why it needs Virtual Console. There are so many great GameCube, 64, SNES titles that many of us haven't played in years (or even ever) that it would be more than enough to hold the Switch over in the dry spells between major titles. And droughts are inevitable and will happen (until more third-party developers fully commit) as it is practically impossible to have a first-party title on the scale of Odyssey or BoTW release every month. I will admit though that all the great indies I've missed out on PC and PS4 that have come to the Switch are keeping me pretty busy.

Re: Review: Celeste (Switch eShop)

OhHiMark

I downloaded this last night after hearing it had a good narrative in addition to very tight controls and was blown away by how good it is. It might be the best indie game on the Switch yet.

Re: Nintendo Switch Tops US Sales In December, 3DS Sales Highest Since 2014

OhHiMark

I mean the 3DS has one of the strongest libraries of any console out there and is still worth a purchase for anyone who has yet to experience it. However, people just now buying it and expecting future support will be extremely disappointed. I think some localizations of JRPG titles (like the upcoming Atlus ones) and maybe a handful of titles that have already been in development for a while will be it. If the rumors of a 3DS remake of Link's Awakening are true, that would be a great swan song for the system.

Re: Nintendo Scores Big In The 2017 EDGE Magazine Awards

OhHiMark

I think people were so wowed by Horizon Zero Dawn's graphics (which are some of the best ever seen yet) and wonderful protagonist Aloy that they overlooked everything else and rated it highly. The gameplay itself isn't so hot as exploring the world is dull and lacks depth or interactivity and feels like a checklist of icons. Edge tends to be super critical of games that do not innovate in any way and simply follow the current industry trends. That would explain why Horizon Zero Dawn didn't make the list but games like ARMS and Edith Finch did. Kinda baffled that NieR Automata didn't, though. That seems like the type of game that the Edge people would worship, at least its narrative.
