Re: Hackers Turn The Nintendo Switch Into A Functioning Linux Tablet

NoNameAtAll

The whole thing is a gray area and I agree piracy sucks.

And yet it's hacks that got us to get glimpses of fascinating things leftover in video games. It's the likes of hackers that led to Hidden Palace Zone finally appearing in an official release of Sonic 2.

Hacking itself is not a bad thing and equating it to piracy is foolhardy.

Not to mention most people aren't going to actually do it because they are either ignorant or lack the technical know-how to actually run it.

Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP

NoNameAtAll

I'm not considering Mega Man one of their old IPs, so all of the ruckus about it will fall on deaf ears.

Power Stone, Breath of Fire or even Devil May Cry (As in, stylish Dante) would be great. Throw in other old stuff like...CAPTAIN COMMANDO!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Wants Us to Download More and Move On From Discs - Will It Work?

NoNameAtAll

Not doing so until their account system isn't a joke. On top of the large downloads sometimes getting corrupted part-way through, it's a pain in the ass to get games and saves over to a new console if the need arises. Better than it was during the Wii days, but that's not saying much.

Cross-buy also needs to be a thing because there's no excuse for the 3DS NES and N3DS SNES games to cost full price. And don't give me the different emulator/architecture bullshit. They have entire teams of people and documentation of their own devices to get stuff to run. These aren't amateur programmers working on their own. Now that Nintendo Network's a thing, there's no excuse.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th January (North America)

@Transdude1996 You're wasting your breath. People just don't get it. Nintendo is nutty about getting the emulation as close to perfect as they can. Even though *hax and RetroArch can run this stuff and quite well on the N3DS, the O3DS doesn't have that.

On topic, this is three weeks in a row of good stuff. I tip my hat to NoA. Keep it up.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st January (North America)

NoA's had two good weeks in a row for VC. I'm impressed actually. Zero Mission was a "Finally" moment, but SMA4 was unexpected. Good on them. There's still a backlog, but I won't insult a great release with intriguing extras.

That said, I may be in the US, but I do hope Europe does get all the Mario Advance games. Those are an even odder omission than some of the NA eShop stuff is.

Re: Talking Point: The Allure of the Virtual Console and How Nintendo Can Harness It

@Mario-Man-Child I'm going to kindly ask you to stow it, because I don't need to be a long time reader of this site to have an opinion or see the lack of parity between the EU and NA VCs. NA is missing a ton of stuff that EU has and it'd be great to have. Xenoblade's eshop release? SMRPG? Mario vs. Donkey Kong? Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon? I can go on.

NoE isn't perfect either. They're missing Super Mario Advance 1 and 2 which is mind-boggling.

I can get a lack of parity between JP and the other regions. There's so many games that just won't come out since they were JP only. But the lack of parity between NA and EU is just stupid, especially for the English speaking countries.

Re: Metroid: Zero Mission Looks Set for a 14th January Arrival in North America

NoNameAtAll

Good. NoA is doing right and releasing it /finally/.

Now we just need...

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii download. Don't give me the N3DS bs, you know this is for those who don't have XBC3D)
Super Mario RPG
Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon
Drill Dozer
Wave Race 64
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Still don't have it amazingly enough)
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th January (North America)

Oh, more nothing? Nice. Europe has SMRPG, Zero Mission, Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Super Mario 64 DS...oh, and a Wii download of Xenoblade Chronicles for GamePad usage.

Nice to see NoA releasing these three games almost 3 months after Europe got 'em. They must've strained themselves. I mean, three VC games in one week? We'll be lucky to get one next week, right!?

Pitiful.

I'm not even going to compare to Japan's eshop since...well, both regions are kinda screwed compared to Japan. I could go on about the great stuff they've been getting lately.

Oh, and for me? I have a legitimate reason to want the FF Advance games on Wii U VC: My carts got stolen. I want /legal/ copies to play. And don't tell me to go on eBay. GBA carts are so disgustingly easy to find forgeries of. Those that aren't are too expensive to consider now.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy May Arrive on the North American Wii U eShop on 24th December

NoNameAtAll

Okay, so...we're getting SMG1 versus Zero Mission, Xenoblade Chronicles (Which is a biggie for those without a N3DS considering the Wii version's price for folks) or even some of the cooler things Japan's gotten recently like Final Fantasy VI Advance or even the upcoming Super Mario Advance 4 /with e-reader levels/. And also Super Mario RPG.

NoA, you have a good three to five things you can release that are not easy to get and you choose this.

This is only a tiny bit better than normal. Ugh.

Re: Bonk's Adventure Has Been Rated By The ESRB For Wii U

NoNameAtAll

@AlphaOmega The NiGHTS HD remake isn't even a Saturn game. It's the PS2 version essentially.

The problem is that the Saturn was a complicated mess for developers. Emulating it is a pain in the rear. I know PCs can do it very well, but keep in mind that took a long time.

Re: Six More Retro SEGA 3DS HOME Themes Are on the Way

NoNameAtAll

The Game Gear and Genesis themes are a fair bit different from the Japan equivalents too, aside from the obvious parts (Mega Drive vs. Genesis).

There's a few sound effect differences on the Genesis one compared to the JP Mega Drive and the Game Gear, while keeping the same sounds, looks different on the bottom screen. Rather than cycle through red, yellow and blue Game Gears, the game on the screen of the game gear changes.

The attention to detail on the different regions is impeccable. I imagine the Saturn will use the startup for the NA Saturn with NA Saturn pics and stuff.

DC could be used without much change. Master System as well, maybe. The SG-1000 and Mark III probably won't be changed though.

We'll see though. Should be fun to see regardless.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th September (North America)

NoNameAtAll

@Superryanworld Yeah, I mean, I can understand the issues with third party VC. Gotta get those licenses and whatnot. Nintendo's the gatekeeper, but if they don't have the right to distribute, well...ouch.

But there is no excuse for their first and second party stuff.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th September (North America)

NoNameAtAll

Jack all for me. I don't have or want Shovel Knight, 3DS VC still remains dead, Wii U VC is still trickle feeding...and I have a vested interest in hoping for more GBA VC games due to many of my carts getting stolen more than 3 years ago.

Where's Zero Mission? Where's Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon? How about the two Mario vs. Donkey Kong games japan got? How about some more 64 games? Why not go the extra mile and throw in Smash 64? Mario Kart 64? Majora's Mask (And don't say it's unfeasible. Xenoblade on the Wii downloads is proof enough that newer versions don't mean a thing)? And that's only the first party stuff. For Wii games, what about Xenoblade?

I'm not gonna bother saying the Square-Enix RPGs. We know by now they don't care at all, so no FFI, IV, VI, Chrono Trigger, etc. And third party is third party, though why not the Sonic Advance trilogy? Or at least Advance 1 which came out in Japan? I'll even take Sonic Battle at this point!

There are a lot of gaping holes, so saying the complaining isn't valid is a load of bull. There is no defending how NoA is doing these things when we've seen Europe get multiple VC titles in single weeks. The one with Advance Wars 2, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Ocarina of Time comes to mind, when NoA only got Ocarina (Advance Wars 2 did come later, but Shadow Dragon is still AWOL).

And please don't talk to me about Europe getting screwed over in the past. I'm well aware of it and it sucks. I'm glad NoE is doing better, but the fact is that both branches get screwed over compared to glorious Japan.

@Quorthon I get what you mean, but remember Atlus is partially footing the bill there. Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance were developed by Intelligent Systems.

Again, when a game released right at the end of the SNES's lifespan (Super Famicom in this case) sells better than ones that were released while the consoles still had steam in them (Especially in Radiant Dawn's case), something is /very/ wrong.
