Re: Zelda And Nintendo Win Big At The 2018 D.I.C.E. Awards

NinNin

@PlywoodStick Thanks for your opinion. I disagree with you regarding the play time and replay value, though. I don't think great strategy turn-based games need to be longer than 100 hours or need to have great replay values. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best strategy turn-based games I have played, but you can finish it in much less than 100 hours. The most important thing isn't the amount of time you spent in playing a game, but the experience you got out of playing it.

Apart from the play time and replay value, what's so great about XCOM 2: War of the Chosen? What are the mechanics you like that set it apart from other strategy turn-based games?

Re: Zelda And Nintendo Win Big At The 2018 D.I.C.E. Awards

NinNin

@PlywoodStick "Personally, I think they should limit the awards a single game title can earn to one award in a specific achievement category and one award in either the overall GOTY category or "Best in Genre of the Year" category."

I don't think there should be this limitation, otherwise some awards will be meaningless. Games that get awards should earn them because they are the best (in opinions of voters), not because better games get other awards and hit the quota, so they can get them even though they are inferior. Also, it would be unfair to the best games in multiple categories to be denied awards they deserved because they had to share some awards to inferior games. I don't think most developers would approve of this limitation.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sold The Most Consoles In the US This Past January

NinNin

@retro_player_22 The Switch is more like the Wii U done right.

@MongolRaider "The Switch is losing tons of momentum. Don't get me wrong, I love the Switch, but to compare against two consoles that's been out for over 4 years is pretty sad."

Which consoles you want it to compare against? The PS5 or Xbox 2?

Re: Nintendo Changes Requirements For Its Controversial YouTube Creators Program

NinNin

@impurekind Did you even read the article? Also, what are you talking about? You are free to upload any Nintendo-related videos. If you don't monetize your videos, you won't be affected by this change.

@SwitchVogel "What do you think? Is this a reasonable move on Nintendo’s part? How do you think it could improve the creators program?"

For goodness' sake, could you please remove this from the article and explain that this change is dictated by YouTube?

Re: The Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Are Headed To Switch On 22nd May

NinNin

@Bass_X0 It's not about Internet connections. The point in buying physical releases is to have tangible goods. Also, as @manu0 said, you don't have to waste the storage space because you don't need to install Switch games and you can resell them.

@Syndrome Bayonetta is a difference case. The file sizes of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are about 16 GB and 12.4 GB, respectively, whereas the file size of both Mega Man Legacy Collection games is under 6 GB.

Re: Nvidia Shares Swell As Nintendo Switch Continues To Sell Like Hot Cakes

NinNin

@Nincompoop He said, "I think" and "will likely." If Nvidia had made a 20-year contract with Nintendo, he wouldn't have said that. If you make a contract with a big company, you have to honor it or you have to pay dearly if you breach it.

Also, no. Nintendo doesn't need Nvidia forever. Now it needs Nvidia, but that's definitely covered by the contract. But in 10 years later, who knows if Nintendo will still use Nvidia? Nintendo may switch to AMD or Intel or Apple or Arm Holdings, etc.

Re: Nvidia Shares Swell As Nintendo Switch Continues To Sell Like Hot Cakes

NinNin

@Nincompoop "And so I think this is a relationship that will likely last two decades and I’m super excited about it."

No, this isn't a contract. It's just his opinion. As for how much, I don't know. But you said that the growth had nothing to do with the Nintendo Switch, which is false. I just wanted to point that out.

Re: Nvidia Shares Swell As Nintendo Switch Continues To Sell Like Hot Cakes

NinNin

@Nincompoop "Since Nintendo had a 20 years contract with Nvidia"

What's your source? By the way, the Nvidia's CFO specifically stated that sales of the Nintendo Switch contributed to Nvidia's growth.

@rjejr Even if you didn't read the article, you should have read this:
"Nvidia's Tegra processor revenue, which is said to have totaled a staggering $450 million, was up 75% year over year."

Re: This Week's Japan Charts Show Nintendo With Eight Games In The Top 10

NinNin

@BAN According to Nintendo, less than 20% of Switch users use it primarily in TV mode, so most users perceive the Switch as a hybrid or handheld console.

I don't know if Nintendo releases digital sales numbers, but it releases total sales numbers. As for Splatoon 2:
"Total sales now stand at 1,882,997 physical copies and 150,617 digital, for a grand total of 2,033,614."

Re: Hackers Get Linux Running On Switch And Claim Nintendo Can't Patch The Exploit

NinNin

@PlywoodStick Regarding the ROM file, there is no proof that Nintendo downloaded it from the Internet because it's a clean ROM file. It's true that Nintendo uses the iNES file format, though. By using the same file format, the resulting ROM files will be identical. It doesn't mean that if the ROM file that Nintendo uses is the same as the ROM file that is available on the Internet, then Nintendo must have downloaded it. Do you think other companies like Konami, Capcom, and Square Enix downloaded ROM files from the Internet because their ROM files are the same as the ROM files that are available on the Internet? Or are they the same simply because they use the same file format?

Anyway, even if Nintendo downloaded it, which I think is extremely unlikely, I don't see an issue because Nintendo is the copyright owner.

"The greatest tragedy of all, though, is that there may not be any pristine Super Mario Bros ROM's left @ Nintendo HQ in Japan."

You only need a cartridge to dump a ROM file.

Re: Hackers Get Linux Running On Switch And Claim Nintendo Can't Patch The Exploit

NinNin

@impurekind It's not only about piracy. Hacked consoles may be used to cheat online play, and that would cause frustrations to other players, and it can hurt Nintendo if it doesn't take action.

@PlywoodStick I don't think you can call it hacking/homebrew if it's an official service provided by the platform owner. I don't think most people are against hacking/homebrew, though. They are against piracy. If you hack your consoles to run homebrew games, I see no problem with that.

Re: Hackers Get Linux Running On Switch And Claim Nintendo Can't Patch The Exploit

NinNin

@impurekind It isn't very rare for new consoles like the 3DS and Wii U. You can look it up. I don't think the GBA supports online play. The Wii and DS used a third-party online service. The SNES Mini doesn't connect to the Internet. Nintendo has no business with your PCs.

As for the emulator on the SNES Classic Edition, it's most likely developed by Nintendo. The emulator on the NES Classic Edition is developed by Nintendo.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U

NinNin

@DEZn00ts Not sure what you are getting at. I don't think most people who don't own Nintendo consoles think that, though. By the way, most gamers own one of Nintendo consoles. The Wii sold more than 101 million units. The DS sold more than 154 million units. The 3DS sold more than 71 million units.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U

NinNin

@DEZn00ts Every platform has more bad games than good games. If you expect more good games on any platform, you should change your expectation because it's unrealistic. Anyway, you don't understand Bayonetta at all. Bayonetta is an action game whose protagonist is a witch who fights angels. I wonder where you got that school girl anime idea from. It's ridiculous.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U

NinNin

@zool Yes, not everyone likes every game, otherwise every game will sell 70 million copies. The point is that Nintendo released and plans to release many games. Several big third-party games are coming. I don't know what you expect. The release date of the new Yoshi game hasn't been confirmed, by the way.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes on Bayonetta 2 on Switch Compared to Wii U

NinNin

@zool ARMS, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Super Mario Odyssey, DOOM, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kirby Star Allies, Mario Tennis Aces, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Mega Man 11, Bayonetta 3, and Metroid Prime 4. Are these enough for "loyal" fans?

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong High Scores Come Under Doubt Amid Accusations Of Monkey Business

NinNin

@NEStalgia It's possible that someone saw the video and felt that something was off and then he reviewed it more thoroughly.

"But if the hammer RNG was too perfect and inflated the score beyond what should be possible, and that's not even a top 10 score....what do those top 10 runs look like in terms of naturalness?"

Maybe they look natural. If you want to know this, you can compare the videos.

Re: Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong High Scores Come Under Doubt Amid Accusations Of Monkey Business

NinNin

@NEStalgia "If Mitchell's score is so unlikely that it simply HAD to have been done through manipulation, what are the odds that everyone above him also manipulated their scores?"

Maybe it's not because of the scores themselves, but because the videos seem unnatural:
"Young came back to the same thread today with a thorough analysis of why he believes Mitchell lied, including detailed pictures and captured gifs for comparison."
