Wario Land VB is the crown jewel, followed by Telereo Boxer & Mario Clash. And even though Jack Bros doesn't make good use of the S3D effect it's another fun one that's worth checking out. Always hated Red Alarm and especially Mario Tennis though, they were awful.

itching to try the JPN imports for Mansion of Innsmouth and Space Squash. Also, it's going to be nice forgoing that annoying ugly controller cable from the original VB. Going to play this with an NS2 Pro Controller. But i wish i we could just ditch the stand, and use a headset strap to just wear the VB goggles instead, at least as an option.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics

@The_Nintendo_Expat
I've owned it twice. The last time i got a VB was during an N64 + VB auction off eBay, with a mint CIB copy of Jack Bros back in 2009-ish. But ya, VB Wario land is legit. The stereoscopic 3D multi-layered opening cut scene and boss battles were and still are impressive to this day. That game is a blast and one of the best entries in the series. Shake it & 1 are masterpieces, while 4 boasts the greatest style and delivers the best representation of Wario. 2, and especially 3 were let downs though.

Then you've got Mario Clash, Telerero Boxer, Mansion of Innsmouth, Space Squash, Jack Bros, including new colored(Green, Yellow & Grey) filter-based software on the way including 2 unreleased VB titles.

Latency might be an issue though. Emulation lag, plus NS1 & NS2 Display lag. That's at least 2 frames. Oh well, I'm biting. lol NSO isn't really my jam, i have better ways to play the classics, but this is an exception since Nintendo is going the extra mile by releasing two unreleased games + filters, combined with the convenience of it all by not having to blow a fortune on JPN VB imports. And did i mention just how ugly and bland VB cartridge sticker cover art is?

And I've always hated how the original VB controller cable would just hang down the headset like that. Also, stay clear of Mario Tennis and Red Alarm. They're stinkers. Don't believe the praise, if there even is any. lol

Might want to just stick with the Classic, X & Zero Series. Then you've got Legends 1&2, though I can't imagine either holding up all that well. Although, the Zero series can get a little too chatty for their own good, and i can't stand the entire hub overworld setting.

I just want to get straight into the action, and not have to deal with the forgettable characers, characer bantering, navigating the hub world, combined with Robot Master names that fail to roll off the tongue(Anubis Necromancess, Maha Ganeshariff, Blizack Stagroff. What were they thinking!? lol) and weak story lines. Zero 1 was still a fantastic game, gruelingly difficult but oh so rewarding. But after that, i felt like one was enough.

@FishyS
I personally couldn't care less about the DLC, but if the NS2 resolution bump is locked/restricted into buying the NS2 version than what a total scam, since Link's Awakening, OOE, Super Mario Oddyssey & 3D World all received free updated NS2 versions with much higher resolutions, stable 60fps & HDR. Just let me play the NS1 version on Switch 2 up to 4K instead of 1080p. I'd drop $5 for that.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics

NeonPizza

I'm not a big NSO fan, but this is a bit of a different situation here. Sold. Gotta give Nintendo props for expanding apon VB by not only releasing 2 unreleased VB titles, but with the inclusion of the Green, Yellow & Grey Lens accessories, aside from recreating an authentic VB/shell boasting StereoScopic 3D.

I would much rather use the NS1 OLED with NSO VB, just to get those perfect OLED blacks and less motion blur etc when stacked against the NS2 LCD display. VB Wario Land, Mario Clash, TeleroBoxer, Mansion of Issman, SpaceSquash, Jack Bros and D-Hopper are on the must play list.

Was never a fan at all of either Mario Tennis or Red Alarm. Those games stunk. Jack Bros is Actually pretty decent and packed full of charm, but it doesn't make good use of the S3D effect.

Re: Video: Pragmata Demo Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch 2, Xbox Series S, PS5)

NeonPizza

PS5 version it is, like with RE Requiem. Wonder if Pragmata Supports the DualSense's Adaptive triggers.

I don't play my PS5 all that often, but every now and then Capcom will unleash something special, and i want the best looking and performing version period, on a 55-65" QD-OLED with either a fantastic dual sub surround sound system or top end pair of headphones with an Amp/DAC.

I don't have a PS5 Pro, but i read that Requiem runs at 90-120fps on it, which is kind of a big deal for motion nutters like me. I loved RE2 & RE3 Remake in high frame rate mode(which ran up to 120fps, even though 60fps mode had higher resolution which was noticeable btw, but at 60fps you've got 50% more motion blur to deal with and it's less smooth, combined with clunkier less snappy aiming vs 120). But, PS5 Pro's PSSR tech is flawed.

It doesn't usually use checkboard 4K when trying to target higher frame rates, so the core visuals wind up looking less detailed and softer as a result as they do in Village & RE4R when playing 'up to 120fps' vs how they look on a base PS5 at up to 4K + 60fps. So if that's the case with Requiem, than I may just stick to playing it on a vanilla PS5 locked at 60fps with RT, and without those sacrifice being made to the visuals.

@Serpenterror
Oh righ! I've never actually played any of those, since I'm allergic to turn based(Or Hybrid turn based in this case) combat. But fans of the series I'm sure are having a hayday knowing that i's landing in just over a month.

I'm sure classic mega man fans would love to see the english translated Super Famicom version of Mega Man & Bass which is avialble on Cart(Repro), to get a digital release on NS1&NS2, and for Wily Wars(Genesis) to be available for purchase outside of NSO Genesis.

Re: Konami And M2 Announce New Goemon Switch Collection, Here Are The 13 Retro Titles Included

@jedomann
Ya, it's always fun to bounce back from authentic legit retro sets ups, with the original consoles, controllers & software, and then over to like a 55" QD-OLED, with either Analogue consoles, NS1&NS2 Emulation, or just playing the original consoles hooked up to a RetroTINK4K using HD Retrovision component cables, which is then sent to your OLED via hdmi.

CRT made have the massive edge in motion clarity since it's blur-free unlike OLED, but QD-OLED will give you perfect blacks, higher brightness, plus their new, readily available, slim and much lighter. Neither tech is perfect, but overall at this point CRT is the winner in my eyes, until QD-OLED or future tech like Micro-LED can finally nail that perfect CRT motion clarity, combined with great CRT filters from TINK scalers, Analogue 3D Consoles or even retro stand alone releases & compilations found on NS1 & NS2.

lol and now that Ninja Gaiden II just dropped on 'Console Archives. I feel like buying the original cartridge, using it on my AVS(FPGA-like NES Console), comparing that to the console archives version and NSO version.

It's a no brainer. The Cart has no lag like the two emulations, and the colours will be better since NES emulation has always had darker desatuated colours since the Wii VC days and that hasn't changed. It's wild how they still can't get the colours right.

As for Arcade Archives. Latency is there compared to the real arcades. I mean, 10ms from an OLED TV, at least 1 frame/17ms(best case scenario) from the emulation, and then latency from the controller. You're only option is to use a controller with minimal latency, like the Joy-Con 2's + Controller Grip Shell, or if you use you're Pro '2' controller wired instead of Wireless.

Also, LRG's carbon egine/emulation releases have been disappointing. Rocket Knight Adventure & Tomba's CRT filter looks horrendous and nothing like a CRT. And the latency is totally there. The games feel weightier' than they normally due, but it's expected. Playing those two on a CRT with Carts/discs on the real thing is above and beyond better.

Re: Konami And M2 Announce New Goemon Switch Collection, Here Are The 13 Retro Titles Included

NeonPizza

@jedomann
i think they're also irresistable because they're being released in a brand new 'in the now' digital shiny package that's far more affordable, easy and convenient vs buying old expensive carts and discs on old dead consoles. As much as i love and prefer the real original software and hardware on a good CRT.

Problem with that is that you're just not getting that universal/unified in the now experience like you would playing them on NS2 or NS1. I go both ways. It makes the hobbie more fun. 😉

Re: Konami And M2 Announce New Goemon Switch Collection, Here Are The 13 Retro Titles Included

NeonPizza

I'm such a sucker for these retro compilations, when they're done right at least like with M2's catalogue of bangers. And yet, I still have much better ways of enjoying these games with the original software, CRT's or FPGA consoles on modern displays, along with a RertroTINK4K connected to the orginal consoles with a QD-OLED TV.

If the latency is low enough which I'm sure it will be since this is M2 we're talking, and the CRT filters look pretty decent I'll bite. I frikkin loved Mystical Ninja back during the SNES days!

Man, we've been getting hit with a handful retro collections this year >

  • The Disney Afternoon Collection
  • Ren & Stimpy Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy Collection
  • Nickalodeon Splat Pack
  • Snow Bros. Classic Collection
  • Super Bomberman Collection
  • Mystical Ninja/Goemon Collection - (At least in JPN for now)
  • Console Archives - (Ninja GaiDEN II! & Cool Boarders)

Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Is The Closest We'll Get To Virtual Console In 2026

NeonPizza

@JJtheTexan
At least NSO improved their CRT filter, but there's a noticeable drop in brightness because of the scanlines being implemented. It's not too shabby as is, if you have gobs of brightness to spare with your TV to compensate.

I haven't purchased Ninja Gaiden II(Console Archives) just yet on NS2, but i guarantee it will edge out the experience you'll get with it on NSO NES. CA will have better CRT Filter options, along with the ability to custom shrink/scale down the 4:3 image down to a smaller screen on your TV which is a huge advantage, and probably less latency. Andd you own it digitally obviously.

I tried getting back into SNES NSO a few weeks ago, and the latency wasn't too bad compared to the real thing, but it was there and it's noticeable. Once you have a proper reference, like lets say an FPGA SNES(Analogue's Super Nt) with the original carts, while using it on the same exact TV as your NS2+NSO, than you'll feel the difference.

10ms of lag coming from your HDTV with a Super NT & original Cart. But zero lag when hooking up an SNES to 'CRT'. Controls are instantaneous, but 10ms is still pretty excellent on a modern display and 100% doable.

But with NSO, you're dealing with 10ms of lag from your TV and then emulation lag, which is at least 17ms best scase scenario, and then the lag coming from the Pro 2 controller. Supposedly the Pro 2 has less lag when wired into the console according to Welcome tour, but i haven't bothered trying it out.

Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Is The Closest We'll Get To Virtual Console In 2026

NeonPizza

@masterLEON
No emulation will beat the original cart for Ninja Gaiden 2. NES Emulation always have darker desaturated colors vs the real thing, emulation lag aside.

Back on the Wii's VC, and now NSO, including NS1 compilations that have NES games, i always have to use native or wide color gamut and raise the color beyond 50 right before colors clip to compensate on my TV to get colors looking closer to how they do on the carts.

If Console Archives are anythign like AA & AA2. Then CA will be better than NSO. Why? You have the ability to custom-shrink/scale down a 4:3 image into like a 32". Lets face it, NSO games(prior to GCN at least) look awful blown up to 4:3 on larger 55 & 65" TV's. NES & SNES(etc) games look best on 27" CRT's imo, or no more than 32"

So CA will allow for that unlike NSO, and you've got a great selection of CRT filters('00' & maybe 'A1' being my favourites.) that will edge out NSO's default CRT Filter(Which unfortunately drains a lot of brightness due to scanlines), I'm assuming a little less emulation lag from CA and of course you own it digitally and dont have to subscribe to a monthly or annual bill. Virtual Console 2 for better words.

Still, i wish CA along with AA & AA2 had background wallpaper art work for each and every individual game. And it's highly unlikely we'll get Mega Man, Castlevania or Nintendo's own franchises on the platform. Either way, I prefer using the original Carts & Discs. But I'm always a sucker for good emulation and a lot of these retro compilations when they're done right, especially the arcade stuff.

In terms of playing retro stuff on a modern display, if Analogue came out with a new FPGA NES, with quality CRT filters i would just stick with that and the original carts and avoid all NES emulation be it from NSO or CA. As is, NT mini's are thousands of dollars on ebay, the 'AVS'(Which i own) doesn't have a CRT filter(Only scanlines) so you'll have to get an expensive $1200 retrotink4K scaler just to gain access to CRT masks(etc) to get the job done with an AVS, or you can just hook up an NES to the TINK4K with composite, but then the image won't look as good vs HDMI and blah blah.

@rallydefault
I'll take a Jumping Flash! Remaster, pretty please. Aka one of the greatest and most revolutionary first person platformers to debut before Mario 64, back in good old 1995, shortly after the PS1's launch.

I'm so tempted to replay it on PS1, on something like a 27" Sony WEGA CRT. But like many already know, 3D polygon PS1 games have aged harder than the 90's cheester cheeto's nesting under my sofa. They're boarderline lifeless and typically ugly to look at.

I think JF is capped at 30fps too. Stunning and an absolute blast for it's time, but in 2026? I can't imagine it holding up all too well. But ya, i wish Nintendo bought both the Jumping Flash! & Tomba franchises. They'd do wonders with both. But instead, they'd been left for dead since the early 2000's. Twisted Metal is another I'd like to see make a come back, as long as it goes back to it's sillier light hearted style seen in both 1&2.

Re: Preview: Pragmata Might Wind Up Being The Biggest Surprise Of 2026

NeonPizza

@Dalamar
PS5 for me. Most likely better visuals, higher resolution & frame rate, including adaptive trigger support. It's probably going to be a similar case like with RE Requiem.

Heck, the PS5 Pro version of RE9 gets it running at 90-120fps(Without RayTracing). But there's a good chance PSSR will just soften and tarnish the core visuals like with RE4 & RE8 vs checkboard 4K + 60fps, unless they're remidied the issue with PSSR2. I've got a base PS5, which i don't use too often. But I'll need it for both RE9 & Pragmata.

The only advantage for the NS2 version of Pragmata, I'm guessing, handheld mode aside from those that like hh, will be the Pro 2 controllers Asymetrical stick layout if that's you're prefence like it is with me. Don't care for mouse aiming, and the DualSense already has the same Gyro as the Pro 2, not that it will work well anyways since the game is in 3rd person, aside from Capcom typically implementing it poorly like they did with both Village and RE4R.

Re: Preview: Five Takeaways From My Time With Virtual Boy On Nintendo Switch Online

NeonPizza

adding the original controller just would of hiked up the sticker price obviously, so they nuked it. I actually like the idea of using a wireless Pro 2 controller on it instead, having easy access to everys ingle VB title including imports like Mansion of Innsmouth, 2 new unreleased VB games, and different colored lens(Yellow, Green & Grey) arriving down the line. They're not just re-releasing it with digital emulations, they're building upon it.

I normally don't care too much for NSO, but this a different situation where they're bettering VB, minus the emulation latency of course.

Re: Talking Point: Where's Your Nintendo Labo Now?

NeonPizza

I'd purchase every LABO set/accessory asap if they were already built and made of plastic. Hopefully they'll do new LABO series for NS2 and they're not made of that ridiculous cardboard. I'm down for a bit of low quality n' crude, yet whacky and enjoyable VR. Nintendo's VR appetizer until they give us the real deal when they invetibility fully dip their toes in.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Finally Comes To Switch 1 & 2, Includes Two Additional Games

@Thomystic
Seems like the only difference between the NS1 & NS2 versions is 720p & 1080p in handheld mode. I don't play in handheld, so the NS2 version is useless. NS1 Digitally & Physically it is.

i always try and just keep my digital NS1 library on NS1, separate from NS2-stuff unless there's NS2 versions of whatever game have been updated(Think Links Awakening & Echoes of Wisdom, DKCountry Returns HD etc) or there's actual NS2 versions like with BOTW, Kirby & The Forgotten land etc.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Finally Comes To Switch 1 & 2, Includes Two Additional Games

NeonPizza

@Tasuki
lol. Lucky! I wish i would of held on to my original wii with all of my Virutal Console downloads & WiiWare titles. Since Mega Man 9 has the edge on WiiWare, on Wii since the Wii is an SD console that looks best on a CRT. So you'll get a similar CRT look for MM9, where is in Legacy 2 you won't.

plus, I had Castlevania Adventure ReBirth which was a blast, that no longer is available. sigh* I rebought the Wii last year, and whenever i boot it up, it just feels soulless with all of the missing VC games(etc) and saved data I once had.

And yes, the NS1 version of MM11 feels way better to play with the Pro controller, thanks to the feel of it's D-pad and the NS1 version having lower latency. with the PS4 version, MM feels more tanky to control. And i dont know, the DuelSense's D-pad, at least for me, is awful to the touch. I'm over it's detached-styled rubbery feel, even if it's placed Symetrically.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Finally Comes To Switch 1 & 2, Includes Two Additional Games

NeonPizza

@Tasuki
Legacy 2 is the only way to play them, or I think you might be able to buy them individually on PS5 with PSPlus membership, or whatever it's called. Either way they're legit in Legacy 2.

They're feather light and perfectly responsive just as they were on Wii through WiiWare. You gotta experience 9, that's one of the best in the series. Wasn't crazy over 10 though. It felt like Capcom was just going through the motions with that one. 9 however feels like a spiritual successor to MM2, and It's got Splash Woman.

9 in many ways rivals 2 since it's got no sprite flicker, no slow down, tighter boss battles, speedier controls & faster ladder climbing like in 3-6, Soundtrack is nearly just as good, The wily stages are designed better and I think you cycle through weapons in-game with the shoulder buttons(Or that might be 10). These days, 9 is the most replayable in the 8-bit series if you ask me, especially if you're playing the game with Proto man since that grants you the slider, Mega shot and a shield. But you take twice the damage.

I really liked 11, which I recently beat around a month ago. Most of the soundtrack is it's achilles heel, and I hated how generic, abrupt and predictable the ending was. I was hoping for some Twist, just something suprising and out of the blue to take me off guard. as is, it feels alsmost like a reeboot for the franchise. As long as you stay away from the Item Shop(It's glorified cheat code) you'll most likely have a good time. It's one of the stronger entries in the series.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Finally Comes To Switch 1 & 2, Includes Two Additional Games

NeonPizza

@Tasuki

Ok, just tested out the PS4 version of the Afternoon Collection. Latency feels on the minimal side. Games are perfectly playable. yet the CRT filter sucks just because of the added motion ghosting.

I just use the Monitor filter which is alright, and stick the screen size on Original(Which gets it smaller than FullScreen)with the Disney Animated boarder turned on. Even the lower end RetroTINK scalers with optional CRT filters, paired with a NS or NS2, could probably replicate the look of a CRT properly if somebody was adament on getting that look.

But ya, thankfully, it's not a Mega Man & Mortal Kombat 'LAG'acy situation as far as latency is concerned. The latency for this collection feels much smaller on PS4 and doesn't hinder the gameplay at all, which hopefully applies to the NS1 & NS2 versions.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Finally Comes To Switch 1 & 2, Includes Two Additional Games

NeonPizza

@Tasuki
lol Digital Eclipse dropped the mega ball with those MM collections. MM1-6, including 7&8 feel like you're hopping around in metal pants with a ball and chain strapped to your ankle. They did a better job with the TMNT Cowabunga collection as far as latency is concerned. I mean, it's there but not on the level of the MM collections.

Probelm with that cowabunga collection is just how crappy and half baked the CRT filter is, which is must imo. I was hoping to replicate or nearly recreate the look of the 1989 Arcade game, just how i remember it when i experienced it for the first time back when i was just 5 years old. But the CRT filter just applies faint scan lines and nothing more, and doesn't soften and round out the sprites the way a composite connection would. Total fail. Only a RetroTINK4K scaler could do the job with it's CRT settings. $1200(cad) later.

I'm going to fire up The Disney Afternoon collection on my PS5 today, and get a feel of the latency and CRT filter. Should be the same I'm guessing for NS, but who knows.

DI messed up both the NS1&2 & PS5 releases for the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollections. NS2 port is rocking 70ms of lag which is awful and the PS5 originally had 107, but it's now down to 80 after a patch. Still bad. XSX is in the 50-something range, which still isn't ideal either...

Where as the Steam/PC version only has 20ms...The original Arcade Trilogiy that we grew up with has around 20-30 inherently, so the PC version replicates the same exact feel, if not slightly better. Who would of thought? I'll be getting the MK Legacy Kollection on the Steam Machine.

But ya, I love the cover art for This Disney Afternoon Collection. I'll be double dipping digital and physical for this, as much I'd hate to. Supposedly, the only differences between the NS & NS2 versions is that it runs at 720p in handheld on NS1 and 1080p in HH on NS2. I don't game in handheld mode, so the NS2 version is pointless.

And I don't kniow, M2 seems like the king or holy grail company of console emulation. They did wonderful jobs with the Sega Ages releases(Great CRT filter options), including The Contra & Castlevania Anniverary collections(Minus the flubbed CRT filters).

Another tip that I'd recommend, aside from using the CRT filter in the Dinsey Afternoon collection, is to ramp up the color on your TV with the 'native' color gamut right before colors start to clip. Reason being is because NES emulation colors are always too dark and desaturated compared to the carts that we grew up with. Be it on the Wii & Wii U's VC, NSO NES and with Mega Man Legacy & this Disney Afternoon collection etc.

Re: Ren & Stimpy Are Getting A 7-Game Retro Collection, Courtesy Of Limited Run

NeonPizza

@foursider
Well, with Analogue's Mega Sg, you're looking at around $800(cad) off eBay, since they no longer have them in stock.

Or, you could score a Genesis(Model 1 or 2) off eBay, and buy a TINK4K scaler to hook up to your OLED TV. RetroTINK4K is the king, but that will run you $1200(cad), or you can settle for the 5x Pro which is half the price, or 2X Pro which is around $200.

You can either plug in Retrovision HD(Component Cables) or composite from your Geensis Console into a TINK scaler device, then it sends the image over to your TV via HDMI. Only 2ms of latency is applied, and you gain a wealth of settings, including much needed CRT filters. TINK4K being the best for this obviously.

Still, overall, imo. a 27" Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT(From the mid 2000's) which you can score off Marketplace for maybe $300, with an original genesis using composite cables is the best experience I'd say. Perfect blur-free CRT motion clarity, zero latency and a more legit authentic experience, and it's easily the most affordable.

But if you're not willing to go down the CRT rabbit hole, and you're crunched for cash, then I'd get a Sega Genesis Model 1 or 2, and pair it with the TINK 2X Pro using composite or HD Retrovision Component from your Genny and hook it up to your modern TV.

If Mega SG's were still in stock for half the price at $400p I'd probably just do that, since they have CRT filters available in the settings, for a modern display set up. But $800+ off eBay for a used one is steep. But so is buying a RetroTINK4K for $1200, then an original Genesis & HD Retrovision component cables which will cost you just under $1500 total.

Re: Disney Afternoon Collection Pops Up On Switch 1 & 2 eShop, Includes Two Additional Games

NeonPizza

@brakeman90

Goof Troop was a blast back on SNES in the early 90s. Normally i'm not a fan of emulation just because of the added latency and devs typically fumbling with the CRT filter. BUT this collection has DT2 and Chip n Dale 2 which cost around $500(cad) each on eBay. I'm getting this physical on either NS1 or 2.

Sure, its been available for years on PS4, minus Goof Troop and Bonkers, but these games do not feel at home on PS4 or PS5, nor does it feel right using the duelsense to play them with its weird detached-styled d-pad.

Re: Ren & Stimpy Are Getting A 7-Game Retro Collection, Courtesy Of Limited Run

NeonPizza

@foursider
Just get the original cartridge for Stimpy's invention and fire it up on an Analogue Mega sg on a modern tv, or original Genesis using a tink scaler, or hook that Genny up to a CRT and you're set.

Ah Christmas of 93. I'll never forget playing SI with my brother on Christmas morning after we opened up all of our presents. Havent played it since, but i fondly remember costantly hearing Stimpy shouting "happy! happy!" in-game with that staticy' muffled genesis sfx. Its the equivelent of talking while drowning in a sea of electricty. 😄

Re: NYXI's Hyperion 3 Is, On Paper, The Perfect Joy-Con 2 Alternative

I'd be using these detached in each hand(IF they're even comfortable this way) Wii-style, just to play on a TV for titles like Mario Galaxy 1&2 on NS2.

Just to gain a left traditional analog stick, larger higher quality face & shoulder buttons, along with the Right stick not being placed directly below B,A,X&Y vs the JCN2's.

Still no Sensor bar, but at least some improvements have been made. Oh, and can those tacky LED lights be turned off by any chance? And what about latency?

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct May Be Coming As Soon As Next Week

NeonPizza

Would be neat if they ported over the 3DS versions of both Ocarina of Time 3D & Majora's Mask 3D, at 60fps + 4K with optional Gyro controls just as filler or place holders until either get a full on remake.

Although, neither really hold up all that well in terms of controls. Same thing applies to Wind Waker. Going back can be rough especially after being so accustomed to the controls found in BOTW.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Switch 2 Upgrade For Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

Wish i would of bought this physically on NS instead of digital. It's one of thoses rarer cases where Modern Nintendo Cover art actually looks good.

If i can buy a professionally made/printed Etsy slip cover of this for NS2, without the text banner & bar code at the bottom, that's also nearly indistuingashible in terms of quality from the real deal Than I'd double dip for sure.

Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Box Art Might Be The Ugliest 'Switch 2 Edition' Cover Yet

NeonPizza

@Nintendontyouknow

The elephant power up looks tacky and unfitting, almost like something out of a Dreamworks movie, bosses are dissapointing, it's not really challenging enough, and the replay value isn't quite there because having to endure the entire hullucinegetic Wonder effect/stage transformation crap gets annoying quick.

Still, based on what I've played it's better than any of the NSB games and I'd say it's the best 2D Mario Since World, but World is still in an entirely different league. Pure revolutionary magic back in 91. Those who were there know what I'm talking about. It was unreal.

Although, I have a soft spot for NSMB DS. It was the first of it's kind as for the NSMB quadrilgy goes, and it felt special back in it's day until nintendo kept regurgitating the formula over and over with minor tweaks and alterations. NSMB series is like the Ikea of mario.

Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Box Art Might Be The Ugliest 'Switch 2 Edition' Cover Yet

NeonPizza

@The_Nintendo_Expat
Most of the games that i love on Switch are mostly 3rd party's and indie NewWave retro games that are available on practically every other platform unless they're timed exclusives. Stuff like Shovel Knight, Freddy Farmer, Panzer Paladen, Bomb Chicken, Curse of the Moon 1&2, Super Cyborg, Tanuki Justice, Blazing Chrome, Blaster Master Zero, just to name a few. Or even renowed classic 'optimized for modern times' retro 90's shooters with quality gyro aiming like DOOM + DOOM II & Power Slave have been quite the blast!

Yet retro styled games just feel more at home on Nintendo and i love the feel of their Pro 1 & Pro 2 Controller D-pads, even though you'll get hit with the odd missregister.

And Ive been finally going hard and deliving into my NS1 library since the last 3 months(350+ games so far), and I haven't been overly thrilled with most of Nintendo's own exclusives. I'd say more than half actually. Super Mario Odyssey so far has been fantastic(Lake Side kingdom was pretty magical!), meanwhile Metroid Dread felt sterile, bland and ammeture(Go figure, it was outsourced) albeit controlled like a dream.

Yet I don't really quite have the patience for BOTW and especially TOTK anymore(Link's Awakening Remake is my modern Zelda-jam, especially the NS2 version since it's nearly locked at 60fps) , Kirby & The forgotten Land is good stuff, Along with SSB ultimate which is the definitive Smash Bros, but at this point in my life, now being 41, i don't have anybody to play it with other than my nieces haha.

The few friends that i do have including family members aren't into gaming, and I'm not big into online, Sooo ya. But i totally get the love for SSB Ultimate. yet Melee will always be my favourite, just because it takes me back to my college days in video game art & design hanging out with my classmates duking it out on a lame 20" CRT during our lunch breaks, when i was in my early 20's. It was a substantial leap over the N64 original too obviously.

Metroid Prime Remastered. Nope. Feels like a huge downgrade coming from Prime 3, since that had those revolutionary Wii remote pointer, nuchuck & sensor bar controls, just that bounty hunter comradary, more grandos excecution and non-linear less isolating structure that felt like a fresh of breath air for it's time.

That game was a 10/10 for me. On my big 32" FullScreen mid 2000's Sony WEGA CRT, rocking component cables, back in like 2008. Wii after all is in fact the final SD Console, and playing it on Sony's latest and newest mid 2000's crt lineup with component was the best way to play it imo, even without progressive scan. No Motion blur(Unlike the OLED TV's of today), No input lag, great colours and Contrast, they were also the brightest consumer grade CRT's on the market. Now I'm the one that's rambling. lol Give me a jug of coffee and a laptop and I'm solid haha.

Ya, it depends. I love revisting some of the 80's & 90's(etc) classics either for nostalagia(It's like revisting an old friend) or just because they've stood the test of time and are still enjoyable to play to this day like Super Mario Bros 2&3 for ex.

Super Mario Wonder is solid based on what I've played, and ya. You're probably right. in 15 years time I'll be nostalgiac for NS2 and want to re-see and experience bits of it all over again. Even though, it will never compare whatsoever to your first experience with said game. Once you've done it, when it's new and in the now, that's basically it. It's impossible to recapture or fully recreate that magic. it was the perfect storm.

Still, it being digital, if you own it digitally, doesn't mean it's going to be evaporated from your account 10-15 years later. I'd actually double dip and rebuy this for NS2 physically if i could get rid of that text banner with the code. Cover Art isn't too shabby imo.

Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Box Art Might Be The Ugliest 'Switch 2 Edition' Cover Yet

@LePirateCrow
When will they decide that it's not? You own the digital version forever on your account. Unless they magically remove it from the eShop, and you can't redownload it if you've deleted it. Can't imagine that hapenning for like another 10-15 years. And by that point I probably won't have any desire to go back to it anyways.

Still, Physical gives you that resale factor.

@SillyG
That ugly text filled banner and barcode are what's stopping me from buying MP4: Beyond Physical and this, even though I own Wonder Digitally already. It tarnishes the art and makes it feem more like a throw away. It's bad enough, that many physical games these days have more legal text agreement(ect) slathered all over the back of the cases and even inside instead of inverted/inner artwork.

Although, Nintendo did a great job with both the DK Bananza & Kirby Air Riders physical copies. Those are the only two physical NS2 games that look like something I'd want as a part of my home decor.

I'd say the same thing about MP4 Beyond & SMB. Wonder(NS2), but the text banner & Bardcode kill it for me.
Wish i could just buy high quality fan made MP4 & NSMB. Wonder NS2 slip covers online with out the bottom banner.

That bottom banner of text and barcode are renlentless and ruin every NS2 box art in sight, including Prime 4. They should release inverted artwork without it and with the exact same cover art. As is, the artistry gets tarnished. Kirby Air Riders & DK Banaza look great though, not only because of the text/bar code being abscent but because they actually have memorable cover art. I really like Wonder NS2's as well, but again the text banner-bar code thing destroys it.

Either way, already have Wonder digitally. Just need the DLC, and I'm guessing it's also getting juiced up to near 4K.

Re: Sonic Mania Dev Laments "Corporate Bureaucracy" Ahead Of Its Next Game

NeonPizza

Can't do 2D Sonic anymore. It's like when the game want's you to go fast it becomes nearly unplayable. And when it want's you to go slow and platform it up it's extremely clunky and cumbersome.

Back in the early 90's, Sonic 1-3 won me over because of the flashy visuals, music and Sonic being the edgy snarky Anti-Mario that he was. Just an incredibly appealing fantastic maskot design all around. And yet, all 3 games pretty much failed to bring fourth even just a trinket of Mario 1, 2, 3 & World's magic.

Didn't like Sonic Mania, even though, it does hold up better than 1-3, simply because you've got Widescreen which helps mitigate the Sonic-Wall slamming effect after loopdy loo-ing through hoops and springs.

My favourite Sonic will always be Adventure back in 99' on Dreamcast. It was pretty special and visually jaw dropping for it's time. Meanwhile, Penny's Big Breakaway has serious platforming-control/mechanic momentum problems that break the experience imo. It looks great though, very Dreamcast-y with it's artistic approach. I tried so hard to get into it, but it felt like it was in some kind of experimental proto-type faze. Graphically, Rabuto looks a bit harsh and rough around the edges, but it's gameplay looks far more appealing than the other two above.

@DennyCrane

I'm only interested in the latest upcoming PS5 Halo if it supports quality Gyro motion + Stick aiming. if it's just stick based, I couldn't be bothered. That control scheme has felt outdated since 2006 imo.

If there's No Gyro support, than maybe the PC version is the way to go with a 3rd party Gyro specific controller that can implement any stick-based FPS with Gyro aiming. DOOM Eternal & the Dark Ages need it, the upcoming Mouse PI for Hire & Judas need it etc.

Re: Feature: 40 Games We'd Love To See On Switch 2

@Wewewi
This. I don't game in handheld, so I'm not settling for underpowered ports....Although, NS1 & NS2 have the big benifit of having an ASymetrical stick layout with the Pro 1&2 controllers, and a much more natural tactile D-pad vs the DuelSense's detached slightly indented rubby textured d-pad which feels awful to the touch imo.

And depending on the game i actually prefer using the Pro 1 and 2's digital L2 & R2 buttons Vs the DS's triggers unless that adaptive trigger tech is being applied.

A few great examples > DOOM + DOOM II may support 120fps + 4K on PS5 which is fantastic, but the game feels more tactile, and enjoyable when using NS1's Asymetrical left stick and digital shoulder button to fire. I had so much more fun playing that on NS regardless of the 50% drop in motion clarity.

Sometimes the distinct features of the controller itself, depending on the game, can overthrow better visuals and performance. Especially when devs are making full use of HD Rumble 1/2, Gyro implemention, or for those that love NS2 Mouse controls etc.

Resident Evil 2&3 Remake support a locked 120fps on PS5 Pro and Adaptive trigger support which make a world of a difference in terms motion clarity & Smoothness, along with and the tension, feedback & resistence when drawing & firing your weapon with the DS's triggers. Meanwhile 7&8 are beyond better in VR. There's no comparison. I can't even play those on a TV.

But ya, the NS2 ports might support mouse aiming for those that like it(Not me), and handheld play obviously. Also, expect slightly better resolution @60fps vs the PS4 Pro versions of 2&3R when docked at 60fps, be it won't be capable of 'up to 120fps'(Basically an unstable 80-120fps) of the Base/Vanilla PS5 versions.

Sounds like I'll have to check it out then. Like you pointed out, not all N64 games require pin point high tension granual Stick-precision like with SM64(being the prime example) and the like. Mischief Makers will do just fine with the 8Bitdo 64.

They're also releasing an 8bitdo 64 controller with the original classic grey & coloured N64 buttons, which ships on the 30th this month.

@HotGoomba

At least Steam Frame + Steam Machine are just around the corner, PSVR3 for PS6 will probably happen now that Jim Ryan has left the building before 2030, and Nintendo will most definitely dip into VR once the barriers or frictions are nixed either for NS3 or maybe even later in the NS2's life span as an optional side accessory that improves on the Steam Frame. Which they could deem as their super hybrid. TV, handhrld, TableTop, VR and MR. VR is destined to be a big success at some point.

Crossing my fingers that Residemt Evil: Requiem gets a surprise VR trailer unveil during next months state of play. Playing 9 flat is going be absolutely gutting after experiencing 8: Village in VR. Playing Village and 7 on a tv by comparison is an absolute bore. 🤑

As for quest 3. I mainly just use it for its MR related stuff these days, theatre elswhere and online shopping. The Q3 honeymoon faze is over for me with its lack of eye tracking to get better visuals/perormance from its weak stand alone power, and its 3D depth perception isn't very good having just a 70% binocular overlap...PSVR2 is noticeably better at 85% and the Steam Frame has been confirmed to have about 90% 😉

If PSVR2 doesn't get RE9 VR, than it's a PSVR2 wrap for me moving forward, and instead i'll be replacing it with the Steam Frame purely for VR steam gaming, and then just using Q3 for its exclusive MR features, and then selling it and replacing it with Meta's MR XR glasses code named Puffin in 2027.

And to think, if Sony did a PSVR2 revision, at this point, they could just copy the Steam Frame and use the same 6ghz dongle for wireless connectivity to PS5/PS5 Pro, but it would be much lighter and smaller since it wouldn't be housing stand alone compute power tech-junk and a battery inside of it like the SF is. But you wouldn't get microOLED because its too expensive at this point. Instead pancake with RGB LCD.

And there needs to be more hybrid vr titles using the duelsense controller with traditional controls, in 3rd person vr(ect), instead of nearly everything being in first person with full on motion controls. Nearly everything starts to feel samey, and it can tarnish the games style.

Re: Review: Gulikit TT Pro / TT Max Controllers For Switch 1 & 2 - The New Standard For Third-Party Pads

NeonPizza

@JayJ
This. It lost me at Symetrical. 😙 lol
BUT, being able to adjust it's gyro sensitivity may give it the edge over the NS2 Pro, for lets say certain boomer shooters like DOOM 64, Duke Nukem 3D and Killing Time Remaster, which are three key examples of poorly implemented yawn gyro that doesn't feel responsive, quick and intuitive enough compared to the amazing robust Gyro controls found in DOOM + DOOM 2, Power Slave and Quake 1&2.

If i can tweak the gyro for more range and sensitivity for the former 3 shooters above I'd totally be down. Plus it's Gen 2 Super Haptic Vibration they say is just a hair away from being as good as the NS2 Pro's, and the controller itself has extremely low latency. Lower than the Pro 2 and slightly lower than the DualSense, if the just under 3ms of lag applies to both NS1 & NS2.

Nice! And thank He-man this includes a more traditional styled swapable D-pad. Never been a fan of the disc-style. Looks like I'll be adding the late 80's cozy GameBoy Retro inspired variant to my Amazon cart in just a bitty. 😁
