@SteamEngenius Tekken story - a ladder match to see who is strongest. Some hero keeps finding inner powers/stragth as he fights stronger and more maniac fighters until at last he fights the man he swore revenge against.
It sounds like Eric, a very humble and infinitely talented independent developer, can now free himself from unnecessary drama. I'd suggest he never mentions this company again, whether or not any allegations were true, and instead do what he does best - make super-keen video games.
Good luck ConceredApe! May NFTs shower your future!
@twztid13 this was worthless when he got it - he sat on it until a likely streamer was willing to fork over dumb money for it.
Retail people have no influence over anything. They truly don't exist unless you are high fashion in NYC or Beverly Hills or Milan, etc.
I honestly don't care - but gaming "journalists" constantly extol the virtues of their craft. Which I always found funny. They are geek culture exemplified - and broke to the extreme to boot. They used to be the most pliable group out there - until streamers came along. Imagine be9ing a publisher and being able to do anything you wanted as long as you could pay a streamer - straight to usually untouchable groups like kids. Heaven for a marketer.
I'd like to see it one day - but I wouldn't waste a trip to Japan on theme parks. The history is too rich, the gardens too legendary and the food is out of this world. The family is planning a tour in the next 5-10 to the land of the rising sun - we'll see - maybe it would be an easy aside worth visiting.
Now if they brought it to Orlando (or even some place better than that hellhole) I'd be up for it in a heartbeat.
@Sunsy so you are saying instead of paying the $50 I should just become you and play the games on the retro systems I already own? Why didn't I think of that?
@PtM Agreed. Gaming software developers should go to other software, like enterprise where I used to work, and be treated not only with respect - but as irreplaceable parts. Not to mention the pay.
In enterprise the coders where treated like heroes - because they made everything. The suits just pushed paper. Everyone seemed to understand their role more.
Monster Hunter Rise - The Great Relearning will continue. Kart is a must play all weekend. I'm looking for something casual to dive into on the N64's catalog. Maybe Pokemon Snap.
And I've got to figure out the 3DS I bought a few weeks ago.
@Serpo Steve Jobs was a glorified project manager whose employees made little telephones you can walk around with. WGAS if his abused employees would have come at him.
@CupidStunt those are the easiest for Nintendo to release. 3rd party games take negotiation. With Nintendo's catalog the path with the least resistance is the easiest one.
@Franklin I get it though - I was around for the Horse Armor DLC controversy. People feel an oncoming tide is going to swallow them up and their ideals are at stake. Which is probably true - and they will lose for sure - just as everyone did for Oblivion's horse armor which became what we see today.
I bought the expansion yesterday for Kart - and just going through the N64 games I forgot how legend they were. I never played with the N64 so they are mostly new to me. Well worth the price of admission imo.
Sin and Punishment? I mean...come on. That game is wild!
I am looking forward to the next big announcement. If for nothing else to watch the naysayers squirm more - it is entertaining.
@VexingInsanity Any coder who works for an abusive company in Irvine, CA is complicit. They could take their skills anywhere else. But they chose not to.
@FroZtedFlakerZz There are many articles where gaming "journalists" write about how swag doesn't affect their writing. Their reviews of a game and what-not.
Well how about this guy? Who sold an old piece for an undisclosed (presumably large) sum to an anonymous buyer and then bragged about it? Does that affect his writing going forward? Or past?
Sure it does. Just another example how bought and paid for these guys are with trinkets. Writers are geeks by their nature - they will do anything for this type of bs - and now they are profiting from it. Awesome, right?
And then an article, here in fact, celebrating a past or present writer (who cares right) profiting off of review swag. Lol. Just make sure you never take any of these people seriously.
@OorWullie I recently played the newest version of Rampage at one of those huge bowling/lazer tag/game arcade/skee ball strip mall monstrosities - and I have to say - pretty darned fun game.
Rampage on the Atari Lynx was legit one of the best made portables of all times. man I wish my brother had kept his Lynx...
@NotSoCryptic sure sure. Minuses expenses of course. SE needed any kind of win with all of their misses lately and a game that might sell 1.5M or so over the long term is probably a sequel worthy win.
Gotta keep the lights on and new IPs a thing. Or it will just be FF remasters from now until the end of time.
@NotSoCryptic Probably a lot. But if SE doesn't diversify beyond Final Fantasy they will be become an incredibly niche company. Through the decades SE has made no secret that they wish to be much larger than they are. They usually fail spectacularly but I admire the try they put forward.
@maulinks 800,000 x 60 = 48,000,000. Likely this one had relatively small promo cost and much less development than higher profile games. 48M (and counting) simoleons is a lot of bread no matter how you slice it.
~~~ I am glad there is a window where it is okay for gaming "writers" to profit off of swag and not look like weasels. So it's about 20 years then?
It is good that they can finally make some money selling stuff that gaming publishers gave them in order to receive better reviews in their various publications.
@Arkay I enjoy the stylized graphics. There is clipping - but watching my characters boot going up and down every time he is standing in tall grass can be lightly humorous as well.
The only graphical complaint I have is how Game Freak cannot seem to make higher quality textures during close ups. They have super cool costume designs on this game I wish we could see them for what they should be. I find the characters costumes looking blurry when doing close ups lazy and distracting. And the pokeball when you catch a Mon in the water looks particularly terrible. Just those two bug me.
I hate to break it to everyone here - but you will all eventually break down and buy the expansion pack. They are going to keep adding things that are harder and harder to refuse. So you might as well get stuff for it now.
@Zeldawakening for SE - I just think they way over-exaggerate what sales projections are going to be. For example - The World Ends With You. Before the game released they were talking tie-ins; even sequels. Then it fell way short and most people just weren't that into it the same way they were the first one.
For SE I don't think the sales are the problem as much as they have truly awful, untalented suits over-doing projections.
Imho, if this wasn't considered a win they would have muzzled their staff and told them not to talk about it as a win.
@Zeldawakening every game's sales ranking should compare itself to huge hits. Like Call of Duty, Pokemon and Mario titles. That way we can cut down on development costs and publishers can just make about 6 games a year for all of us to enjoy.
@Nightcrawler71 It is fairly obvious that is what they are waiting on. MK9 will be released same day as the next console.
I have no doubt they have a permanent team for the series - likely creating new tracks and whiteboarding ideas as we type these words. Not only does the game sell bonkers - it is a system seller in the purest sense of the word.
Re: Don't Worry, Hogwarts Legacy Won't Contain Any Microtransactions
I'd take all of these statements with a grain of salt. They've already laid down some half-truths about JK's involvement in the game.
Then again - it is good to take someone's word for it at face value - until they prove otherwise. Avalanche has always been a top notch studio.
