Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

MostHandsieBoy

No joke - An article of Super Kirby Clash, and the fact Nintendo was handing out year long (!) NSO subs for free is what got me to turn on my year old Switch that had <10 hours on it. I was exclusively a PC gamer at the time. It wasn't a great game, but fun, and got me started wanting and trying everything else.

Now I havent played a pc game in over two years.

@JeanPaul there are not even the faintest rumblings of Bobby Kotick getting in any trouble over anything - for this. Now the real thing that might land him hot water is insider trading. One of his best buds, Wall Street titan Barry Diller among others, made many millions of dollars for a convenient trade he made within a month of this deal going through. Really lucky he called it. They are being investigated by the SEC rn.

If anything, that is where Kotick needs to worry. But the people involved are quite wealthy; quite powerful.

Re: Activision Blizzard Hit With New Harassment And Discrimination Lawsuit

@Bret Yes. Kotick is not going anywhere. Part of the deal was that he leaves on his own terms. He has stated in interviews there will be a next chapter, etc - so he will demand a chance to repair his image.

From what I understand it isn't Kotick himself who is doing all of the awful things - he simply ignored them all. Which is kind of the same thing.

The plan is for MS to divest from Kotick and for him to spend a year or so repairing the image. Wall Street loves him - he'll land another project or job quickly. Bobby could not care less what grunts or gamers think - he holds them at arm's length and with complete disdain - shown by his years at the helm.

But...and this is true...he was enabled by the same gamers who pretend to abhor all of this. We've known about all of this for a half decade at least - but people still make excuses to buy all of their stuff. And the employees stick around too. I think Kotick has a deep understanding of that - he understands his audience - all meaningless bluster with no action.

@HankScorpio He will not - it is contractual. I believe it is 18-24 months. Every major purchase has a transition phase where the former CEO gets a sweetheart advisor role where they get paid ridiculous amounts of money and do nothing.

Normally this is to keep the good people around during the transition but in this case - everyone hates Bobby (except Wall Street).
Then he will say he is moving on to another project or another blah blah blah.

@nessisonett the entire industry - every publisher - would be better off if everyone forgot about Activision. Seriously, even without the constant breaking of the law think about how much worse gaming is because of them. Before EA and ATVI rose up the hobby was much more simple and pure. Damn Infinity Ward for being such a good developer and taking that money.

Re: Activision Blizzard Hit With New Harassment And Discrimination Lawsuit

@Fizza why should it? Don't they pay their employees <$50,000? In Irvine, CA that is the equivalent of a central american peasant who works for another central american peasant: extremely poor. You aren't going to get any loyalty by paying people that low - and on top of them constantly harassing them and making them work 80 hours a week. Nor should they. I have trouble understanding how anyone can suit up, and go into these offices on the daily. I'd suffer severe depression knowing I was being taken advantage of - and then being actively hated afterwards.

Well I wouldn't suffer - because I was blessed with good enough sense to immediately walk out of a situation like that. These are educated people with a highly desired skill. But they are being abused because of their dream of putting out more WoW cash shop items I guess.

@Ultrasmiles the reason it occurred in the first place was it was Activision's only way out. It is how Kotick could get his big payday and get out - then MS will keep people around for a year or so and then start making big cuts into staff. An old method method of creating a new culture and harvesting IPs. They will do it slow in this case so no one will notice.

I will say - as a former employee of MS - it seems like a much better place to work than Blizzard. MUCH better. They recognize talent, pay well and aren't constantly trying to molest you or making fun of your race, creed, sex or whatever. Blizzard does none of these things unless you were fortunate enough to get into the boy's club early on.

@LUIGITORNADO I take it kind of personally with Disney. I was a stockholder for a long time so I was rooting for them financially (I'm divested now so who cares) and only a few years ago my little girls and I watched it all. From Snow White to present day. I own maybe 15 to 20 of the things.

After introducing my children to Miyazaki they are bored of Disney. Even when I try to bring in the absolute perfection classics like Dumbo and Alice - they clamor to watch Totoro for the 10th time.

I want to like Disney I am nostalgic for that top notch drawing and story they can tell. They seem to be stuck in a 1970/80s rut - or it's right before the rut. The part where kids bore of their IPs but they keep making the same thing over and over again because they don't want to make the leap either.

2cents. I care because I know how talented the company is and I expect much more.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Guide - Walkthrough, Tips And Hints

@NinChocolate No doubt. I'm getting the game because I have little kids and I greatly enjoyed the demo as well. It's one of the rare games that is for everyone. But it is very easy compared to most of my library.

For me, that is a huge selling point. Sometimes I don't want to stress over Cuphead. I want something my old hands, face and bones can easily do.

@Not_Soos even though it isn't all new n stuff I think their dlc/expansion decisions are kinda bold. Like the amount of tracks and the size of animal crossing dlc.

~~~agreeing with you
I was playing the N64 stuff the other day and was marveling about how nuts some of their ideas where back then.
"Paul, give me your best."
"So you know the plumber right? What if we made him...paper?'
"Why?"
"Well because he would be paper."
@Mikmoomamimocki My two young children hated the movie. Everyone in my family of four did not like it.
Encanto was almost as bad. The movie about the Italian fish boys was formulaic and as boring as it gets. Remember the pandemic movie about the teenage trolls on a quest? Jesus in heaven that was bad. Pixar is now really bad.
The last memorable disney movie imo was Moana. Which was fantastic.
Re: Random: Someone Just Spent $1600 On A Super-Rare Canadian Barbie 3DS Game
@JustMonika I just put $500,000 into an s/p index fund at the beginning of the year.
One guys brags about a rare ds game he bought. One guy brags about a car wrap. one guy brags on the internet about half a mil invested - the ultimate equivalent of small league money.
all of these amounts are nothing outside of your own personal sphere. I pissed away a meaningless 2K this morning on a root canal. I could have bought an old barbie game. /confetti.
@VexingInsanity Have you ever been to Irvine, CA on business? I have. You can toss a rock in the air and hit 1000 software development companies when it lands. Right now - every single one of them is hiring. All of them will pay better than Blizzard I bet your eternal soul.
If your initial dream was to be in gaming. that's fine dreams are nice. Anyone will be much happier once they are out of this atrocious industry. It's basically a pyramid scheme but instead of jyst using cogs like most industries in video games they actively hate their employees. I don't say that lightly - they treat them like sweatshop slaves with verbal and physical abuse.
